CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Want to get more details now on this deadly suicide bus bombing in Jerusalem. Matthew Chance live on the scene. He joins us from central Jerusalem.
And Matthew, this happened just about - what? -- 15 yards from Ariel Sharon's residence?

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: A bit further than that. About 100 yards from his residence.

But it's a testament, really, to how accustomed the Israelis to dealing with the aftermath of this kind of devastating suicide attack, that in just a few hours, they've not only cleared the streets, but - and taken away the dead and injured to the hospitals and to the morgues and collected whatever forensic evidence they need, but they've also towed away the mangled wreckage of the bus. And, as you can see, the traffic behind me here is moving quite freely now.

But make no mistake, this was an extremely powerful explosion. According to the police, they were picking debris and human remains off the two-story roofs of the surrounding buildings in this residential area. So a huge blast did an awful lot of damage. It also, of course, left at least 10 Israelis dead, plus the suicide bomber. And very many people - more than 40 people - said to be injured.

So a devastating blast on the streets of Jerusalem.

COSTELLO: And Matthew, early word says it was a female suicide bomber. Do we have any confirmation on that?

CHANCE: Well, I asked that question to the police spokesman, Gil Kleiman (ph) here just a few minutes ago, in fact. It's something they're working on. They haven't established the identity of exactly who it was that carried out this suicide attack. It's a bit gruesome and grisly to explain why that is, but basically in the chaos of the body parts and the heads and arms and legs that they've found, they haven't managed to piece them together yet to establish who is who.

COSTELLO: All right. Matthew Chance, reporting live from the scene there in Jerusalem.
