DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Well, Janet Jackson's escapade is certainly the water cooler story of the morning.
Let's bring in Dennis Moore in McLean, Virginia. He is the "Style" section editor for "USA Today." You know the purple part that everybody turns to first when they buy "USA Today." Good morning.

DENNIS MOORE, "USA TODAY": Good morning.

KAGAN: It was a big accident. Are you buying that, Dennis?

MOORE: Justin Timberlake was singing "I'm gonna have you naked by the end of this song" just as he reached across and brushed her breast to expose it. A lot of people are dubious.

KAGAN: Can I just share a girlfriend moment here with you? Most girls do not run around with silver pasties underneath their clothes.

MOORE: I think you should be prepared for any eventuality. Janet obviously was so she would not completely embarrass herself.

KAGAN: All right. Just for the record, we want to read this statement from the network. This is from MTV, which produced the Super Bowl show, the halftime show. They say, quote, "The tearing of Janet Jackson's costume was unrehearsed, unplanned, completely unintentional, and was inconsistent with assurances that we had about the content of the performance. MTV regrets this incident occurred, and we apologize to anyone who was offended by it."

Are you buying that, Dennis?

MOORE: Maybe MTV didn't know. I hate to be totally skeptical, but you know, Janet has a new album coming out. She hasn't been on the scene for a long time. And certainly she was seen last night.

KAGAN: She was seen.

MOORE: It's going to do nothing but boost her in the minds of a lot of young people who now want to go out, buy her album. She's suddenly hot again, at a time when probably she shouldn't be, considering that her brother is on trial for charges of molesting a young boy.

KAGAN: Yes, the last time we saw her was just a couple weeks ago walking into the courthouse in Santa Maria.

MOORE: It's quite a change from the sober demeanor she had going into the courtroom and then quite a show that she gave us last night. Some people would think that it's inappropriate.

KAGAN: Real quickly, Dennis, is it becoming -- because when I looked at this I thought, oh, it's like the kiss with Madonna and Britney. Is it becoming that when you have any kind of production that it's going to have to be can you top this so that that's what people talk about the next day?

MOORE: You're absolutely right. You have to one-up the person who just shocked the people before you. And certainly, with the commercials that led up to the halftime show it was quite an array of lewd and crude behavior. So this, actually, sort of fit in to the theme of the early going of the night.

KAGAN: And final word goes to CBS, which says in the future MTV will not be producing any halftime shows. So there, MTV is in halftime time out. Dennis, thanks for your time.

MOORE: Thank you.

KAGAN: The viewers can read more about it in "USA Today" or go online to USA.com to the "Style" section, the purple section. Thank you, Dennis.

MOORE: Thanks a lot.
