CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: More than 20 dead in Moscow this morning, a huge explosion in a subway train just a few hours ago. Terrorism could be at work here.
We take you live to Moscow now for any new word. Our bureau chief, Jill Dougherty, is there.

Bring us up-to-date -- Jill.

JILL DOUGHERTY, CNN MOSCOW BUREAU CHIEF: Well, Carol, it was a terrifying morning for the people who were on that car. The second car of a metro train, way underground, all of a sudden an explosion, and people were killed.

The latest figure is 22 officially, but unfortunately the investigators and the Emergency Ministry say that there could be more, because the force of the explosion was so great that people were literally blown apart. And right now, they can confirm that they can identify 22 bodies, but there could be more.

There are at least 30, maybe even 60, people in the hospital. Those figures are, too, changing.

But one thing that you can say was that it was a deadly explosion. The people who did survive, who were able to crawl out of the windows of that train, had a long journey on foot, crawling and walking the subway tunnel down to the end, looking for some type of help, and they found it at two ends. This happened between two stations.

President Putin immediately informed. He believes, as everyone else does as the investigation continues, that this probably was terrorism, and he said that terrorism is the plague of the 21st century.

Right now, investigators are trying to find out exactly how this happened. The immediate suspicion would be that this is Chechen- related terrorism, and they are looking for the possibility that perhaps these bombs were carried in briefcases or backpacks and put onto that train -- Carol.
