CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: It's time to talk Grammies. I'm sorry, so sorry. Yes, there were apologies at the Grammies and lots of large banners covering the very low cut dresses of some of the nominees. Justin Timberlake showed, Janet Jackson did not. But she's got friends.
Live to Los Angeles now and Julie Cevene -- good morning, Julie.

JULIE CEVENE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning, Carol.

Well, yes, you might call it a more grown up version of the Grammies last night here in Los Angeles. There was a whole lot less flash and crass. You could tell the artists knew that the censors were watching and they were taking note.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Justin Timberlake.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CEVENE (voice-over): After a week of post-Super Bowl scrutiny, a tame Justin Timberlake accepted the Grammy for best male pop vocal bearing an apology instead of a breast.

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, WINS MALE BEST POP VOCAL: What occurred was unintentional, completely regrettable and I apologize if you guys were offended.

CEVENE: The Jackson/Timberlake stunt prompted CBS to put the Grammy Awards on a five minute tape delay. The network also insisted the two say I'm sorry. Ms. Jackson was a no show, but her name still managed to make its way to the stage more than once.

CHRISTINE AGUILERA, BEST FEMALE POP VOCAL: I don't want to have the same thing happen that Janet had done.

CEVENE: As for the awards, Beyonce reigned as Grammy queen with five, including best R&B song. The diva tied a record for most female wins.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP FROM THE GRAMMY AWARDS, COURTESY CBS) BEYONCE KNOWLES: Wow! This is unbelievable.

(END VIDEO CLIP) CEVENE: Outkast proved they were in. The hip-hop hit rounded up three awards, including album of the year, but lost to rock favorites Coldplay. Their tune "Clocks" chimed in as record of the year.

CHRIS MARTIN, LEAD SINGER, "COLDPLAY": We'd like to dedicate this to Johnny Cash.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CEVENE: The recovery Luther Vandross captured four awards, including song of the year. He appeared via videotape.

LUTHER VANDROSS: When I say good-bye it's never for long.

CEVENE: While the three and a half hour show had no apparent wardrobe malfunctions, it did leave viewers with a little skin to talk about.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

CEVENE: And skin or no skin, certainly a great night for Outkast. The group also took the Grammy for best rap album.

Now, one rap artist who didn't fare so well, 50 Cent. He entered the race with five nominations and walked away empty-handed -- Carol.

COSTELLO: Oh, you mean fitty-cent.

CEVENE: Fitty.

COSTELLO: Fitty.

CEVENE: You got it.

COSTELLO: You know, the saddest moment of the Grammies had to be Celine Dion, when the technical problems...

CEVENE: Yes.

COSTELLO: Oh, I felt so bad for her.

CEVENE: Yes, you know, from what we hear, the buzz is that the Grammies was really filled with technical problems last night. As you know, it was on a five minute delay. At this point, don't know if that had anything at all to do with it. But certainly there were a couple of moments there where the audio was a problem and, you know, it just didn't go as smoothly as it probably could have.

COSTELLO: No, but there were many great performances.

CEVENE: Yes, certainly.

COSTELLO: All right, thank you very much.
