BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: We talked about the weather in Tennessee. Residents are hoping for higher temperatures today after the state was gripped by a brutal snowstorm. About eight inches fell in parts of the state making for extremely hazardous driving. The highway patrol is warning motorists to stay off the road if possible.
Holly Harris of our affiliate WSMV is live in Nashville.
Holly -- good morning. How are conditions today?
HOLLY HARRIS, CNN AFFILIATE WSMV REPORTER: Not too much improvement from yesterday, Sunday afternoon, unfortunately.
The trouble this morning is it's sticky and hard. As you can see here, that is what remains on the roadways; again, a very dangerous situation.
And what's odd about all of this, we are in southern middle Tennessee. If you are in metro Nashville, the conditions are just fine. But yesterday afternoon when this snow fell, it hit hard south of town on I-65. Portions of that interstate were closed; also Interstate 40 had sections of that closed, as well as I-24.
So, this hit hard and it hit very fast. It caught everyone off guard. The good news, though, it was a Sunday afternoon, and if you were home and you were safe, kids could have a good time outside. We saw lots of snowmen and lots of snow angels and lots of snow balls as well. So, it was a fun time if you felt safe.
But if you were out on those roadways, again, a very treacherous situation. We understand in Williamson County, which is south of Nashville, there was a fatal accident Sunday afternoon. Overnight in Colombia, were told right not just a few fender benders, which is pretty miraculous when you see the roadways. It's those exit ramps, those on-ramps are still very dangerous.
But here live, real quickly, you can see overnight another layer of ice. This is making for a very treacherous commute.
Live in Columbia, Holly Harris.
Back to you -- Bill.
HEMMER: All right, Holly, thanks for that -- WSMV, our affiliate out of Nashville.
