CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: Have you ever Googled yourself? You know, used the search engine to find yourself on the Internet? Well, the practice led to a startling discovery for one California teenager, who found out he was missing. We get more from Lyle Kott (ph) of the CBC.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

LYLE KOTT, CBC CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): It's been a long wait for Ron Steinman. Police say 14 years ago, his common law wife abducted their 3-year-old son and they both disappeared.

RON STEINMAN, FATHER OF MISSING TEEN: I'm very concerned. Dagon (ph) wrote things like if he got sick, did she take him to the hospital? No. When he was six, did he go to school?

KOTT: But finally a break last week. The boy's mother, Giselle Marie Gubrot (ph), was arrested in California for child abduction.

JIMMELL GRIFFIN, U.S. MARSHAL: We took her into custody and we turned the kid over to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. They have custody of the kid.

KOTT: This child abduction Web site turned out to be a life line. Ori Steinman, now 17 years old, didn't realize he'd been abducted until one day at school his class was fooling around on the Internet.

RHONDA MORGAN, MISSING CHILDREN SOCIETY OF CANADA: Putting their name into the Google search engine and when he did that, he got a hit on our site. We had Ori's photograph up on our Web site.

KOTT: That was a year ago. Since then, authorities have been tracking the history of the boy and his mother.

MORGAN: You know, she lived in Mexico for approximately four years after fleeing Canada. We're not sure how long she's lived in the United States. We do know that she's lived in the Los Angeles area for approximately four years.

KOTT: Canadian officials have started extradition, and that means lots of red tape.

GRIFFIN: That would have to come from the Red Deer (ph) police. The request would go into Ottawa, who would then review it and process it and then pass it over to Washington, who would review it.

KOTT: Meanwhile, Steinman has waited 14 years. Now, he's waiting for a reunion with his son.

STEINMAN: I respect that he's an adult and that, you know, father/son is going to mean something different.

KOTT: A reunion that could still be months away.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COSTELLO: That was Lyle Kott of the CBC. The teenager has been put in a foster home in California while the case plays out in the courts.
