MARTIN SAVIDGE, CNN ANCHOR: Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's on an overseas trip to visit U.S. troops. His precise itinerary isn't being announced, but during a refueling stop in Ireland, he surprised a few folks.
CNN's Barbara Starr reports.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BARBARA STARR, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): An unexpected spontaneous moment early in the morning in Ireland. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and his traveling party at a refueling stop on his way to visit troops overseas. In the Shannon Airport, suddenly, the secretary ran into more than 200 National Guard troops from Oklahoma on their way to Iraq. The secretary getting a tumultuous reception.

DONALD RUMSFELD, SEC. OF STATE: We wanted to come by and say hello and say thank you.

STARR: And then, the encounter was over. The troops got on their way and the secretary went on his way.
