HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Californians are keeping their fingers crossed that flooding and mudslides won't follow the latest Pacific storm to pound the state. The heaviest rain has shifted southward; threatening areas mad vulnerable by last fall's fires. They're getting a bit of a break to the north, but it's still pretty nasty there.
Terisa Estacio, of CNN affiliate of KRON, KRON-TV is live in Daly City near San Francisco is live now with an update.

How do things look there this morning, Terisa?

TERISA ESTACIO, KRON-TV CORRESPONDENT: Well, good morning Heidi. Well, you know, some hard work has certainly paid off for residents here in Daly City. Residents as well as public works crews have spent hours here. But there's still a lot of work to be done.

Take a look behind me. You can see that there's mud and debris everywhere in the streets out here in Daly City. And then back behind me, you can see there's some homes that have just piles of trash in their front lawns, littering their drive ways. All kinds of items that were damaged by the floodwaters.

It was a much different scene overnight, though. If you look at the pictures. Tow trucks hauled away about more than 30 cars. The rain came down so hard and so fast it caught many by surprise. It also caused some sporadic flooding. Residents dealt with flooded garages. Others had parts of their homes damaged when the water rose so quickly.

The Red Cross helped relocate some homeowners into hotels the overnight. Others, though, stuck around to deal with the mess. Daly City officials today plan to open an assistance center this morning. And the Red Cross also plans to come out as well, and try to see if they can lend a hand to people.

We've been noticing throughout the morning that the public works crews from Daly City have been dropping off large trash trucks, like the one that's coming right now. They've been dropping those large containers off, so that people can actually start taking the stuff out of their driveway and dumping them into the containers.

People are hoping they've seen the worst out here and that it's going to get a lot better throughout the day, and that more storms won't cause so much damage.

That's the latest here in Daly City. I'm Terisa Estacio. Back to you, Heidi.

COLLINS: All right. Terisa, thank so much. We appreciate your time this morning, giving us a look at things in California.

Also want to take a look now if we could, at a live shot coming in from WCNC. This is Charlotte, North Carolina, everybody. I bet you didn't know that had you not seen that on the bottom of the screen there. Billy Graham Parkway; not a lot of folks out there driving today. Probably the best that they could be doing. President Bush is going to be there a little bit later this afternoon. Forecasting some pretty serious snow in that area today.
