DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: I'm Daryn Kagan at CNN Center in Atlanta. Let's check what's happening now in the news.
A garden grows in Boston. About an hour ago, the city unveiled its new Garden Memorial, honoring Massachusetts victims of the 9/11 attack. Governor Mitt Romney and other state officials were on hand for the special dedication.

Marine Corporal Ali Hassoun says he is not a deserter. Military sources tell CNN that Hassoun says he was abducted from his base near Fallujah. Hassoun has yet to explain how he traveled from Iraq to Lebanon. The military is still investigating his disappearance.

There are conflicting reports today on a deadline imposed on a Filipino hostage by his militant captors. One officials says that Angelo de la Cruz is still alive, signaling a deadline may have been extended. The Filipino government is refusing to pull troops from Iraq as the militants have demanded.

The same-sex marriage debate takes center stage in the Senate today. President Bush is among those favoring a constitutional amendment forbidding gay or lesbian couples from marrying. The amendment is not expected to pass.

We will take a break, and we are back after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(STOCK MARKET UPDATE)

KAGAN: Hate to end it on that negative note, but I think that's what we're going to have to do, out of time. I'm Daryn Kagan. I'll be right back here in this seat tomorrow morning.

Meanwhile, Wolf Blitzer back from vacation. Isn't America happy about that.

Good to see you, Wolf.
