THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

KARYN BRYANT, CO-HOST: Will your favorite shows be scrapped?
A.J. HAMMER, CO-HOST: And from X to D. David Duchovny live. I`m A.J. Hammer.

BRYANT: I`m Karyn Bryant. This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

HAMMER: Teetering on the tube. Some of your TV favorites are in danger. Which will make the cut and which will be cut?

BRYANT: They`re the young and the hotest. Hollywood`s hottest -- Jessica, Karen (ph), Hilary -- come out to party, and you won`t believe who ran the show.

HAMMER: Plus, judging "American Idol." They sang birthday songs, but that didn`t suit everyone. Former contestant Kimberly Caldwell joins us live.

BRYANT: Lil Jon, big business. He`s behind some of the hottest hits. Is he the next music mogul? Lil Jon live.

HAMMER: And...

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DAVID DUCHOVNY, "X-FILES": That`s why I`m telling you this, so you know me.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: We knew him as Agent Mulder on "The X-Files." Now he`s getting behind the camera. David Duchovny live.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JESSICA SIMPSON, "STYLE ICON OF THE YEAR": Hey, I`m Jessica Simpson.

NICK LACHEY: And I`m Nick Lachey.

SIMPSON: And if it happened today...

LACHEY: ... it`s on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BRYANT: Hello, I`m Karyn Bryant, and you are at the top of the show.

HAMMER: I`m A.J. Hammer. We are live with you from Headline Prime Studios in New York City for the next hour.

BRYANT: It is nail-biting time in Hollywood tonight, as the big bosses get ready to decide which of your favorite TV shows will survive and which ones will be canceled.

HAMMER: Right now, some critical favorites are on the endangered list, and fans are not taking it lying down. Let`s get right to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s David Haffenreffer for the latest.

DAVID HAFFENREFFER, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT: A.J. and Karyn, a lot of money involved here. The TV networks will show their fall schedules to advertisers in mid-May, so between now and then, the axe will fall on a number of shows. It`s not always easy to tell which shows are cancellation bait, but right now, all eyes are on one particular critical hit.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Going to miss you guys.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAFFENREFFER (voice-over): Fans of "Arrested Development" are hoping a painful good-bye isn`t in their future.

MARC PEYSER, "NEWSWEEK": I think the show that most people are shocked and somewhat saddened on the bubble is "Arrested Development."

HAFFENREFFER: The show is one of the more than a dozen network programs considered to be, in the TV terms, "on the bubble." When a show is on the bubble, it`s right on the brink of being renewed or canceled. "Arrested Development" is the most high-profile "bubble" show this spring, despite being a critical favorite and winning an Emmy Award last year as Best Comedy Series. The show still only gets about 6 million viewers, meaning its season finale this Sunday may be the show`s finale.

PEYSER: Every year, there are a handful of really good shows that people just don`t tune into for one reason. They`re either on the wrong network or they`re just too clever or people are just intimidated by them. And I think, to some degree, that may all be the case with "Arrested Development."

HAFFENREFFER: Fans of "Arrested Development" aren`t taking its possible cancellation lightly. They`ve formed a Web site, getarrested.com, where fans make pledges to watch the show in hopes of saving it. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT recently caught up with "Saturday Night Live`s" Amy Poehler, who tells us she`s optimistic about "Arrested Development`s" future. Her husband, Will Arnett, plays Gob.

AMY POEHLER, "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE": I think that more and more people are starting to watch it. I`m very positive about it. I think it`s going to come back bigger and stronger than ever.

HAFFENREFFER: Some family-friendly shows are also in trouble. Despite all of its first-year, hype the WB`s "Jack and Bobby," about the family of a boy who will one day become president, has only about 2 million viewers. And CBS`s "Joan of Arcadia," about a teenager who talks to God, also may not have a prayer. Could this be a bad sign for family-friendly programming?

PEYSER: To some degree, the new family show are the reality shows. "Fear Factor" is a huge family show. "Survivor" has a show that draws lots of families. So maybe these scripted shows aren`t appealing to families in a way that they once did, even though they were designed to do that.

HAFFENREFFER: Other shows considered to be on the bubble include "The Office." "Judging Amy" is being judged right now. And "The Bernie Mac Show" could see its final days. But just because your show is on the endangered list doesn`t exactly mean it will be canceled, especially if the network doesn`t have something better to replace it.

PEYSER: It`s a huge puzzle that they`re putting together. They`re trying to create schedules night by night, hour by hour, comedy and drama. And they have to put all of these pieces in motion and see where they end up.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAFFENREFFER: And we`ll know the networks` plans soon. A number of other shows are considered to be "on the bubble" right now. They include the sitcoms "8 Simple Rules," "Yes, Dear," "Committed" and the ABC cop show -- brand-new cop show -- "Blind Justice" -- Karyn.

BRYANT: All right. Thanks a lot, David.

Well, accidental exposures, Jessica and Nick talking babies, and Paris Hilton announcing she`s added a new member to her family. We got the goods last night in Hollywood at "Us" magazine`s Young Hot Hollywood Style Awards. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Brooke Anderson was there, and she joins us now live from Hollywood with the scoop. Brook, what happened?

BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT: Well, it was all unpredictable, Karyn. Jessica Simpson and her hubby, Nick Lachey, gave me the inside scoop on how their marriage is really holding up and if they plan to follow in Britney`s footsteps with kids. This stylish red carpet was full of eye candy and surprises, including one star showing a little too much skin unintentionally.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice-over): They`re young, they`re hot, and they`re, oh, so Hollywood. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was on the red carpet with Jessica Simpson, Paris Hilton and Rob Thomas for "Us" magazine`s Young Hot Hollywood Style Awards. But the shocker of the night came before the event even started. Model Janice Dickinson got a little (UNINTELLIGIBLE) on the carpet, having a couple of wardrobe malfunctions. Uh-oh! But Janice made a graceful recovery. Someone who knows all too well about those embarrassing moments is Tara Reid. She told me how to prevent those mortifying mishaps.

TARA REID: Please invest in the double-stick tape, guys! That`s all I can say!

ANDERSON: At the event itself, Simpson was named Tinseltown`s top taste maker, the Style Icon of the Year. Oh, let her explain it.

SIMPSON: You know, it`s such an amazing honor. I can`t -- Style Icon -- you would think icon -- I mean, that`s just iconic.

ANDERSON (on camera): I know!

SIMPSON: Isn`t that deep?

ANDERSON (voice-over): So what are the style philosophies of the stars? We went straight to the Hollywood trend setters.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`ve always been a strong believer of wearing things that make you feel comfortable.

ANDERSON (on camera): (UNINTELLIGIBLE) this baby to your Chihuaha?

PARIS HILTON, "BEST TRENDSETTER": I love Tinkerbell. She`s the best.

ANDERSON: And Bambi.

HILTON: And Bambi. I have a new dog named Bambi, so...

ANDERSON (voice-over): Paris has always been a fodder for tabloids, so let`s go back to Jessica. I asked her about some of the headlines we`ve been reading.

(on camera): Do you guys anticipate having a family soon?

SIMPSON: We definitely anticipate having a family.

LACHEY: At some point (UNINTELLIGIBLE)

SIMPSON: My gosh, that`s one of our biggest dreams in life. And we`re very happy for Britney and Kevin and think that it`s awesome, but we`re going to hold out.

ANDERSON: A lot of tabloid reports about your marriage and your relationship. Do they get it wrong? What is the state of the things? Your fans, everybody wants to know.

SIMPSON: There`s a lot of, like, inside sources that have no insight on our lives.

LACHEY: (UNINTELLIGIBLE) unnamed mystery sources, you know.

SIMPSON: It`s very interesting, actually. But yes, most of what you read is false.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Well, it`s not false that she is now the Style Icon of the Year, according to "Us Weekly," anyway, the editors of "Us Weekly." Simpson told me she doesn`t do it alone, that she has a team of people helping her with her style. And she will be modeling Daisy Dukes in the upcoming film "Dukes of Hazzard." It`ll be in theaters this August -- Karyn.

BRYANT: Thanks a lot, Brooke, in Hollywood.

HAMMER: It is time now for "SHOWBIZ Shorts," a look at more stories making news tonight. Urban New York. Country star Keith Urban was up early today, performing his hit, "Days Go By," for the "Today" show crowd. Earlier this week, Urban won the Video of the Year for that song at the Country Music Television Awards.

Seacrest`s star. We heard today that the "American Idol`s" host is getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week. Ryan Seacrest is being honored for his 10 years in the radio business.

We`ve got more "SHOWBIZ Shorts" coming up throughout the show.

BRYANT: Crystal Gale sang "Don`t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," but it was her other tune, "When I Dream," that left Nadia Turner feeling blue last night. In a rare trifecta, all three judges agreed that "Dream" was a poor choice, and it became Nadia`s nightmare.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Bo, you are safe. You may have a seat. That means Nadia leaves us tonight on "American Idol."

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BRYANT: And now it`s down to seven. So who has what it takes to make it all the way? As we do every week, it`s time to judge "American Idol" on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, and our second season "Idol" finalist and TV Guide channel host,, Kimberly Caldwell, joins us live from Hollywood. I saw you just barely get in the seat there!

KIMBERLY CALDWELL, TV GUIDE CHANNEL HOST: Did you like that? Did you like that?

BRYANT: That was good. That was good.

CALDWELL: I`m here. That`s all that matters.

BRYANT: That`s right. Well, so now, on the show this week, the people were singing songs from their birth year. And you know, people were saying that the one that Nadia chose was not so great. What do you think?

CALDWELL: Well, I know that the audience wasn`t very familiar with Nadia`s song, and I do not think that it was her time to go, and I`m really kind of confused by her going. But at the same time, like I`ve said before, you know, she did go first, and I know that always hurts her. But Simon said, I think that it might be your week to go, and that has a huge impact on the audience, a huge impact on the audience.

BRYANT: Yes, I believe that because, you know, he said that Constantine was astonishing, and Constantine finished the show. And granted, he was, I think, never -- never better. He`s never been better than he was.

CALDWELL: Definitely.

BRYANT: But I think he got some momentum from that performance and from Simon`s comments.

CALDWELL: Definitely. I mean, out of the two rockers, you know that I`m a Bo fan.

BRYANT: I know.

CALDWELL: I mean, Bo could fall on his face, and I`d still love him. But Constantine this week outdid Bo. And what I love about this season is that they have no boundaries whatsoever. He`s got the mike stand...

BRYANT: That`s right.

CALDWELL: ... he`s got his tongue out, he`s, like, flinging his hair around, he`s into the audience. I mean, and that`s what I really love, and that`s what makes a true performer. And Constantine definitely, definitely proved himself this week.

BRYANT: He did, and obviously, Freddie Mercury is so hard to imitate, so...

CALDWELL: Exactly.

BRYANT: ...I mean, I give him a lot of credit for that. What about Scot Savol? I mean, he sang -- with Hall and Oates sitting in the audience, he sang a Hall and Oates song. And then he got a little mouthy with Simon.

CALDWELL: Right. I mean, I particularly do not think that it is right to talk back to the judges, and I wouldn`t do it, but hey, if that`s what he was feeling, you know, you got to say what you got to say. I think that Scot is really lucky to still be there, and I think the accusations that were made towards him might actually be working out better for him than bad.

BRYANT: Right.

CALDWELL: You know, I think it might actually be a good thing and he might be getting the sympathy instead of being judged, which is, you know...

BRYANT: You know?

CALDWELL: ...which is cool. He`s got a beautiful voice.

BRYANT: Exactly. Well, speaking of talking back, you have "Idol" chat now on the TV Guide channel?

CALDWELL: Yes.

BRYANT: Tell me about that quickly.

CALDWELL: If you want to see me and Rosanna Tavarez talk back, please watch "Idol Chat." It`s an amazing show. We are very charismatic, I must say. And it`s on tonight at 8:00 o`clock, and it is hysterical. And if you want to learn a little bit more about the contestants, definitely watch the show. It`s great.

BRYANT: All right. Well, thank you, Kimberly, and...

CALDWELL: Thanks, Karyn. Glad I made it.

BRYANT: All right. Good job. And of course, like she said, "Idol Chat" Thursday nights on the TV Guide channel -- A.J.

HAMMER: All right, Karyn. Well, Martha Stewart`s house arrest hasn`t stopped her from getting out and about. Earlier this week, two of her publications won National Magazine Awards, and Martha showed up to claim them. Now, she`s allowed to spend 48 hours per weeks outside of her Connecticut home for work-related events. Stewart is currently under five months of house arrest following a five-month prison term after being convicted for lying to the government about a stock sale.

Well, that brings us to our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Martha Stewart`s house arrest: Is it too lenient? You can vote by going to cnn.com/showbiztonight, or if you want to tell us more, e-mail us at showbiztonight@cnn.com. And we`ll share some of what you have to say a bit later in the show.

BRYANT: Coming up, the "King of Crunk," Lil Jon.

HAMMER: And a royal house. Former "Dynasty" princess and real-life princess Catherine Oxenberg and her husband, Casper Van Dien, on their new reality show.

BRYANT: Now tonight`s "Entertainment Weekly Great American Pop Culture Quiz." In which John Cusack film was he harassed by a newspaper boy reclaiming $2? Is it A, "Say Anything," B, "Better Off Dead," C, "One Crazy Summer" or D, "The Sure thing"? We`ll be right back with the answer.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back. So again, tonight`s "Entertainment Weekly Great American Pop Culture Quiz." In which John Cusack film is he harassed by a newspaper boy reclaiming $2, "Say Anything," "Better Off Dead," "One Crazy Summer" or "The Sure Thing"? The answer is, B, "Better Off Dead."

BRYANT: Well, tonight in "The Show`s Biz," Lil Jon`s empire. In addition to being a big-time rapper, he is also the hip-hop producer to beat right now. He`s the man behind Usher`s mega-huge-hit, "yes," and Ciara`s No. 1 single, "Goodies." And now Lil Jon`s just signed a deal with the wireless record label BlingTone to create songs exclusively for cell phones. Lil Jon is here live with us now. It`s great to see you. Thanks for coming in.

LIL JON: Yes! I`m on CNN! That ain`t doing bad.

BRYANT: I love...

LIL JON: You got to love it!

BRYANT: I love it. You know, before we go any further, because I know the word`s going to come up, just tell people what "crunk" is.

LIL JON: America, if you want to know what crunk means, crunk means energy. Crunk means to get to a state of mind where you`re just almost going crazy, but you`re not crazy. So it`s just get wild, get loose, just get crazy.

BRYANT: OK.

LIL JON: So you say crunk.

BRYANT: All right. That`s cool. So let`s talk about BlingTones here. Why did you want to team up and take on this endeavor of making songs specifically for cell phones?

LIL JON: Well, it`s a new industry, you know what I`m saying, that`s been created with the cell phone downloads, you know, music for your cell phones. I`ve been having, like, the No. 1 downloaded songs on the download charts anyway...

BRYANT: Right.

LIL JON: ... so it was perfect that I do some new music for cell phones, you know. So we got with BlingTones, and I`m producing songs specifically for your cell phone. And it`s going to be something hot!

BRYANT: And they`re -- but they`re 30 seconds, right?

LIL JON: Thirty seconds for now. But technology is advancing...

BRYANT: Right.

LIL JON: ... so you might have a whole song on your phone.

BRYANT: Well, it is. That`s what I wanted to talk about. This is actually the fastest-growing, you know, sector of the music industry...

LIL JON: Yes.

BRYANT: ...ringtones.

LIL JON: It`s a whole new thing, you know what I`m saying? Like you said, it`s growing so fast, and I`m in early, you know what I`m saying, doing my thing with BlingTone. So you`re going to be able to get hot new music, and you`re going to get the yes, the What and the OK! You`re going to get the real on the phone, you know?

BRYANT: Fantastic!

LIL JON: Hey!

BRYANT: I love it! So you know, people are thinking that there`s something about you. You`ve got the magic touch. Usher, you worked with him, he gets a million awards, and the song is just gigantic. You work with Ciara, she gets a No. 1 hit. What is the deal with Lil Jon`s production touch?

LIL JON: I don`t know.

(LAUGHTER)

LIL JON: I just go in, man, and I just try to make good records, man. One thing I do do that`s, you know, maybe some people don`t, I try to make records for the club. You`ve got to make people dance. "yes" and "Goodies" are dance records, you know...

BRYANT: Right.

LIL JON: ... it makes people dance, makes people get crunk!

BRYANT: It does!

LIL JON: So...

(CROSSTALK)

LIL JON: It`s a hit record.

BRYANT: So now, if any of us had a record and we wanted you to produce it, what`s the going rate for Lil Jon?

LIL JON: I can`t tell you that.

BRYANT: You can`t tell me? Classified?

LIL JON: Call my attorney, Doug Davis (ph). He`s got you.

BRYANT: Anybody you`re dying to work with, dream collaborations?

LIL JON: Dr. Dre, what`s up, man? We got to get together, man!

BRYANT: Dre -- that would be fantastic. Well, I love that you have Ice Cube on this record because he is so -- I mean, this guy is an icon, as far as it goes in rap, and this is the first time you two worked together, right?

LIL JON: Yes, I grew up listening to NWA. I`m a big Ice Cube fan. I wanted to actually get Ice Cube on our last album. It didn`t happen, so it came around this time and I got him to get on the "Roll Call" song.

BRYANT: Right.

LIL JON: And then I called him again, like, Yo, I got this other song, this grand finale...

(CROSSTALK)

LIL JON: Can you do this? And he was, like, Cool, and he killed it.

BRYANT: All right.

LIL JON: So we probably going to do some more things together, the two. So look Lil Jon and Ice Cube, you know what I`m saying, to do some stuff.

BRYANT: All right. Cool. And last quick question. What is in the crunk cup (ph) when you`re at the club?

LIL JON: This? Get a close-up! Come closer!

(LAUGHTER)

LIL JON: Crunk energy drink!

BRYANT: All right.

LIL JON: That`s what`s in the cup.

BRYANT: That`s great. Well, thanks, Lil Jon, for joining us here.

LIL JON: Can I get -- I can`t get too wild, huh?

BRYANT: Well, do what you need to do!

LIL JON: I mean, can I walk around...

(CROSSTALK)

LIL JON: Yes, I`m on CNN! Mama! I`m on CNN! It ain`t nothing bad!

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: One more "yes," Lil Jon. One more "yes."

LIL JON: You got to come to...

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: One more "yes"!

LIL JON: We`re going to do it together!

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: Hurry up! Damn the directors!

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: All right, well, from the house of crunk to the house of E. Ellen likes to dance, but what does she like to sing? Find out on "Thursday In Style." And did you ever wonder what it`s like to marry royalty?

LIL JON: Yes!

(CROSSTALK)

HAMMER: ... "Dynasty" -- yes, thanks for playing along. "Dynasty`s" Catherine Oxenberg is a princess on and off TV, and she`ll join us live.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BRYANT: Lovely shot of Central Park there. It is time now for "Thursday In Style." Tonight, Ellen DeGeneres`s guilty pleasures. Ellen tells "In Style" magazine about the indulgences she loves most.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MARTHA MCCULLY, "IN STYLE": Her fashion addiction is Barney`s. She says she loves fashion. Despite that she doesn`t dress up too much on her TV show, she really loves fashion. She loves (UNINTELLIGIBLE) with Jill Sanders (ph). She loves Prada and Gucci, and Helmut Lang (ph). She`s really into fashion.

For a touristy trip, she loves New York City, the culture, the people, the fashion, and especially Central Park, where she loves to people watch. She says it`s the absolute best place for it.

For late-night TV, she loves that show "It`s Showtime at the Apollo." It`s a sort of a comedy, dancing, singing, audience trial show. She says that the audience is brutal, and she is fascinated by the people who have the guts to get up on stage and perform.

Her favorite cheesy movie is "Tootsie." She says it`s funny and smart and touching, and she`s seen it six times, which for her is a lot because she says she`s never seen anything she`s done more than twice.

Her favorite dessert is Haagen-Dazs coffee ice cream. She says that they did the perfect balance of coffee and cold (ph) ice cream. She says it`s everything a frappuccino wishes it could be. For karaoke, she said anything by Rush, but she really has done "Wind Beneath My Wings," and something by Guns `n` Roses, too. So she`s sort of all over the board here.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BRYANT: And if you want to read more on Ellen DeGeneres`s guilty pleasures, pick up a copy of this month`s "In Style" magazine on newsstands now.

HAMMER: Well, they`ve been talking all day, and we`ve been listening. Now, as we do every day on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the best from today`s talk shows. On "The Tony Danza Show," Tony proves that he can take a joke even when it`s at his expense, proving to all of us he is the boss.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

TONY DANZA, HOST: I got home just in time to turn on Conan O`Brien last night. Check this out, Jimmy Fallon on Conan O`Brien. Go to the videotape.

CONAN O`BRIEN, "LATE NIGHT WITH CONAN O`BRIEN": You do a good Tony Danza impression. Have you ever done the Tony Danza impression to Tony Danza?

JIMMY FALLON, "FEVER PITCH": I actually did it. I actually went on "The Tony Danza Show, yes, and I did it. (UNINTELLIGIBLE) softball game. I can`t wait. Hey, who took my glove? Angela? Jonathan? Mona? Samantha?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BRYANT: Good job, Jimmy.

Well, is Martha Stewart being treated with kid gloves? And has Paris and Nicole`s "Simple Life" become more complicated? Our "Buzz Bench" straightens it out.

HAMMER: Plus, Jada Pinkett Smith opens up to Oprah about a teenage problem. A first look at that coming up, as well.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

KARYN BRYANT, CNN ANCHOR, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT: Look out Osbournes, Catherine Oxenberg and Casper van Dean are about to become part of the reality dynasty and they`re live on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

AJ HAMMER, CNN ANCHOR, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT: Plus, David Duchovny in the showbiz sit down. He wrote it. He directed it. He`s in it. We`ll hear all about it. It`s the "House of D."

RONNY SEACREST (ph): Hi, I`m Ronny Seacrest. If it happened today, it`s on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m AJ Hammer.

BRYANT: I`m Karyn Bryant. Here of tonight`s hot headlines.

HAMMER: A baby update from Nick and Jessica. As the young hot Hollywood style awards, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey (ph) told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT it`s one of their biggest dreams in life to have a family, but for now they are holding out. They also said that they`re very happy for Britney Spears and Kevin Federline.

BRYANT: Idol ouch, it`s down to seven on AMERICAN IDOL after Nadia was sent packing last night. The final seven perform next Tuesday.

As we reported earlier, Martha Stewart has been out and about this week accepting awards for two of her publications. Her house arrest allows her to leave home for 48 hours for work-related events, but is that too much time. Is it too generous? That`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day: Martha Stewart`s house arrest, is it too lenient? You can vote at cnn.com/showbiztonight and send us an e-mail at showbiztonight@cnn.com. We`ll share some of what you have to say at 55 past the hour.

HAMMER: Well Jada Pinkett Smith is opening up about a problem she had with alcohol when she was a teenager on tomorrow`s OPRAH. Smith and tennis superstars Venus and Serrina Williams will reach out to teenage girls who struggling with body image, self esteem and other problems and Smith talks about her own struggles as a teenager.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JADA PINKETT SMITH: I keep it real. I`m on oprah. I`m going to keep it real. I had problems with alcohol, and I really had to get in contact with the pain, whatever that is. I had to get in contact with the pain and understand what that was, and then I had to get some other tools on how to deal with the pain.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: You can see the rest of the interview tomorrow on OPRAH.

BRYANT: It`s time for more showbiz shorts. Fred Durst is getting some TV time. The front man for the bank Limp Biskit (ph) will show up in the NBC miniseries REVELATIONS next Wednesday, playing a Satanist. And "Variety" reports today that Durst is shopping a reality series called "My Life with Fred Durst." (INAUDIBLE) he`s not the out-of-control rock star people think he is.

Well, Michael Douglas is going sci-fi. Today we learned that Douglas is producing a new series for the Sci-Fi channel based on Shirley Jackson`s short stories. The show is being pitched as a cross between DESPERATIVE HOUSEWIVES and THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

HAMMER: Tonight a showbiz sit down with David Duchovny. He played Agent Mulder of course in the hugely popular X FILES series movie and tomorrow everyone is going to get to see his new movie as he makes his directorial debut with "House of D." It`s a story about a man who goes back to his childhood to discover who he really is. David Duchovny is here live with us at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Thanks for stopping by, man.

DAVID DUCHOVNY: Thanks for having me.

HAMMER: This is kind of an autobiographical movie, not exactly, and as a matter of fact, because of how the movie takes shape, at one point I was hoping it`s not fully autobiographical.

DUCHOVNY: No, it`s hardly autobiographical at all. It really just takes the place and the time of where and when I grew up in Greenwich Village in the `70s and certain superficial elements, like I was a delivery boy. The kid in the movie is a delivery boy, private school on a scholarship. I went to private school of a scholarship, but these are just superficial similarities. The thrust of the movie, the emotional thrust of the movie is fictional, because my life was not that dramatic. My life was pretty boring.

HAMMER: You had to dress it up.

DUCHOVNY: Not just dress it up, but I had to kind of create it out of a whole cloth.

HAMMER: But the house of D, the house of detention in Greenwich Village actually did exist.

DUCHOVNY: It did. It was the women`s house of detention and it was in the middle of the most bustling neighborhood of the biggest city in the world and these women could actually hang out the bars and accost people. It was very loud. And I just thought what a great opportunity for drama that doesn`t exist anymore. It was torn down in `74. You could actually have a random interaction with a prisoner.

HAMMER: We`ll go on and take a look at a bit of it right now. In this clip, you`re actually coming face-to-face, your character coming face to face with somebody from your past. Let`s take a look at David Duchovny in "House of D."

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DUCHOVNY: Lady, you have a beautiful face.

ERICA BADU (ph): We did what we had to do, didn`t we? It`s all right. She understands.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Of course Erica Badu, so great to see her. Now did she sing when she was like walking around the set, when you guys weren`t working?

DUCHOVNY: No, but I have her sing in the movie, and I should say on top of that clip that the movie is very funny in spots.

HAMMER: That was certainly a dramatic moment.

DUCHOVNY: That wasn`t a very funny moment, but that was the first day Erica and I worked together and it was the first day she had her old-age makeup on, because she exists in the past and the present, which is where that clips is from and we were uptown, and I was walking with Erica in her old-age makeup to the set, and this little kid walks by and says that`s looks like an old-ass Erica Badu.

HAMMER: Very good, somebody was able to pick it out. Well, another character you were able to put in some old-age makeup, we got a glimpse into his future, Robin Williams, who we spoke with earlier this week. He was so great in this role. He basically is about a 41-year-old man, but with the mentality of around a 12-year-old. When you were writing this role, did you have him in mind? How did you come about casting Robin?

DUCHOVNY: No, I just kind of write freely and then cast afterwards, but I wanted somebody who is both physically -- Robin is very powerful. You might not know that about him, but he`s very kind of strong and I wanted Pappas (ph), the character that he plays, to be a man among boys, because that`s what he is. So I like that about Robin. And also, Robin has a wonderful child-like, access to a child-like nature in himself. And I thought those two things would make him perfect and it was.

DUCHOVNY: And your wife Tea also terrific in the film. When you work with her and she was playing the mother of your childhood character, when you`re working wit her, is it a boss/actor relationship?

DUCHOVNY: It never is with me and actors anyway. When I`m working with a director I feel like it`s a collaboration anyway. The actor is the owner of the part. It`s not bossy at all. I feel like the best way to get the best work out of people is to actually make them feel comfortable and not boss them around. You want to lead them and have them lead you at a time, but on the other hand, it was nice to have her do what I say.

HAMMER: I`m sure it was. I`ve always liked the fact that you do not shy away from the X FILES. You acknowledge it was a huge part of your life and will continue to be a part of your life. I also know that X FILES fans can be hard-core, some real conspiracy theorists. Tell me the craziest thing that somebody has actually come up to you perhaps in the street and maybe said to you, like, hey, Mulder, I got the black oil. People must confuse you with the character sometimes?

DUCHOVNY: You know, no, they never really did, but once I was in an elevator in Chicago and this guy walked in, and he saw me, it was early in the morning, I was going to work, and he says, good morning, doctor. So I was like, OK --

HAMMER: Kind of freak you out a bit?

DUCHOVNY: Yeah and then we`re going down, and I realized that he thought I was Noah Wiley, so I said you`ve got the wrong show there, chief.

HAMMER: To be sure, I`ve heard you say another X FILES movie is being put together. You`re just waiting for it to happen.

DUCHOVNY: Slowly, yeah, I think so.

HAMMER: Any chance you`ll direct it?

DUCHOVNY: No, no, no, I don`t think I can direct a big action film like that. I think Chris Carter, the creator of the show, is going to direct it.

HAMMER: David Duchovny, thanks for stopping by SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Of course, "House of D" opens in theaters tomorrow.

BRYANT: Is Paris Hilton looking for a new sidekick? There are some reports that the simple life is getting a little more complicated. We`ll take that to the buzz bench coming up.

HAMMER: Plus the princess and the actor. This has reality TV written all over it. Catherine Oxenberg and Casper Van Dien join us live in the showbiz sit-down. That`s coming up as well.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: All right. Let`s go. Time for the buzz bench, where today`s water cooler chatter take center stage. Tonight, Paris` news sidekick, Martha`s easy time and TV`s right to religion.

BRYANT: Joining us on the buzz bench tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT contributor Amy Kean, celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch and the "New York Times" Lola Ogunnaike. So we`re starting with the report that Paris Hilton may continue to do THE SIMPLE LIFE without Nicole Ritchie. Now Fox` statement says, we are currently discussing internally the creative direction of the next season of THE SIMPLE LIFE. We are huge fans of both Paris Hilton and Nicole and are looking forward to solidifying or plans for the next installment of this fantastic franchise in the very near future, so we`re going to play around a little bit. Who would you guys like to see as her new sidekick?

AMY KEAN, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT CONTRIBUTOR: I have to say, I can`t believe that there`s going to be another installment of THE SIMPLE LIFE. This is kind of like a one note joke like we get it, you`re rich, everyone`s poor, you don`t know how to milk a cow. How much further can you go with it?

LOLA OGUNNAIKE, NEW YORK TIMES: You don`t understand Wal-Mart. We got it. I think Jessica Simpson and Paris Hilton.

KEAN: They both are egos.

PHILLIP BLOCK, CELEBRITY STYLIST: No, they need me there. They need a guy, they need to put that spin on it.

HAMMER: I was thinking little John myself.

(CROSSTALK)

KEAN: ... who needs to be known. She`s such a huge star now. Jessica Simpson is already a huge star, so I don`t think she`d care about doing it.

OGUNNAIKE: But she does need a job.

BLOCH: But look what it did for Nicole. She dropped the weight, she got glamorous, (INAUDIBLE) she got a man. She doesn`t need Paris anymore.

OGUNNAIKE: Maybe I should team up with Paris. You know, you lose weight, get a man.

BLOCH: Let`s all go.

HAMMER: Well, Martha Stewart has her own reality show so let`s move on to Martha. Martha accepted a national magazine award for her magazine last night, even though she remains under house arrest. Now Phillip, it seems like she`s getting to do a whole lot of stuff even though she technically is under arrest.

BLOCH: It`s unbelievable, 48 hours a week she`s allowed to go do whatever she wants. Most people when they get out of jail, that doesn`t happen, especially on their house arrest and it`s so rough when you can`t do your own show, and that terrible bracelet on her ankle. It`s just terrible for her, I feel bad.

OGUNNAIKE: I think Martha, though, she`s really the comeback kid. She gets out. She gets the shows. Now she gets the awards. It`s sort of like, look, jail cannot keep a good woman down.

KEAN: The magazines that won were her child magazine and also her wedding magazine. Those are great magazines totally apart from Martha.

BRYANT: Anybody who gets married reads that magazine.

OGUNNAIKE: And it`s beautifully done.

BLOCH: She`s brilliant at what she does. She is brilliant at what she does. The treatment is just not there. It`s not cool.

BRYANT: We`re going to move on to religion in television. TV wants the audience that "The Passion of the Christ" and the "Da Vinci Code" have delivered. The NBC miniseries REVELATIONS debuted last night and NBC also has the book of Daniel under production. That`s going to have Adin Quinn (ph). He`s an Episcopalian minister who converses with God and Fox is going to be having a pilot called "Breyer and Graves," about a Catholic priest probing the supernatural. So, what`s going on with the TV and religion?

KEAN: I think religion is the hottest thing ever right now, there`s no question. In a weird way, it feels like September 11th kind of got people interested in different religions and their faith. And then the election certainly proved that there`s a giant portion of this country who are very religious and have a strong faith, so it was inevitable. But you know, this particular thing, REVELATIONS is a really interesting project, because the writer is actually the person who wrote "The Omen." So it`s a high quality project.

HAMMER: And we`re going to have to leave it. I know you got something to say Lola. I`m sorry, we`re out of time.

OGUNNAIKE: Religion is the new sex.

HAMMER: Phillip, religion is the new block (ph). Amy, Phillip, Lola, thanks for joining us on the buzz bench tonight.

So what`s it like to marry a princess? We will soon find out thanks to a new reality show and its stars, Catherine Oxenberg and Casper van Dien. They`re going to join us live next.

BRYANT: Plus Britney`s baby news gets some TONIGHT SHOW buzz. That`s coming up in laughter dark.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: It is time now for another showbiz sit-down. If you have ever wondered what life is like in a royal household, it`s about time we all found out. A movie star marries a princess and lets cameras follow their every move. The reality for former DYNASTY Catherine Oxenberg and actor Casper van Dien unfolds in their new show, which is called I MARRIED A PRINCESS on Lifetime. Catherine and Casper, thanks for joining us on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

CATHERINE OXENBERG: You`re welcome.

CASPER VAN DIEN: Thanks for having us.

HAMMER: So I immediately have to ask you guys, you`re a big-time Hollywood super star. You are of royal blood. I`m assuming you`re not doing this for the money. You got five kids, why invite further chaos into your household and have all these cameras around.

VAN DIEN: She made me do it.

OXENBERG: I did, plus we`re insane and the other reason is I`m actually incredibly lazy and we live really far out in Olson (ph) Malibu and I don`t want to leave my house to have to go to work. So this way, they come to me. It`s at home. We don`t have to go on location, it`s like - - it`s so easy.

VAN DIEN: Plus Spielberg wasn`t calling saying, hey, come on my next movie Casper, but maybe now he will.

HAMMER: So there`s something to the idea of keeping you out there and being on TV on a regular basis?

VAN DIEN: It`s whatever my wife wants.

HAMMER: It`s feeling like she`s wearing the pants Casper.

VAN DIEN: I get to wear the pants. She gets to wear the skirts. I`m the captain of the ship, but she`s the admiral.

HAMMER: Well, let`s see how that all unfolds in your household and take a look at a clip from I MARRIED A PRINCESS from Lifetime. This is Catherine.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OXENBERG: Let`s go, right now. We`ve put in a lot of work as a family.

VAN DIEN: Can you make a bottle for me quick?

OXENBERG: We`ve hired therapists and behavioral modifiers, parent effectiveness training. We`ve done a lot of different things to try and help integrate everybody and make it more harmonious. Shut up! OK. Go on.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: I`ve got to say you look a little beleaguered at times there Catherine.

VAN DIEN: The shut-up technique works well.

OXENBERG: For him, too.

HAMMER: It`s just a real basic household despite the fact, royalty/actor. It doesn`t really matter.

VAN DIEN: It`s the same thing. We work on our issues.

OXENBERG: We start off with kind of -- the first show is establishing all the -- because there`s so many members of our family. Then the issues get heavier and heavier and basically the shit hits the fan like week two.

HAMMER: OK. A lot of these shows basically the cameras just roll and then the producers cut them however they see fit and create the story line. You are actually the producers of the show. Do you have some say in how it all looks on TV?

OXENBERG: It was easy for us because we produce our own lives naturally, so kind of we were able to suggest a lot of the situations, because it`s what we would do normally. And the condition of doing the show was we didn`t want to do anything contrived. One poor field producer, we went on a romantic weekend.

VAN DIEN: Feed her a strawberry, pour some honey on her, lick it off.

OXENBERG: We were like, OK, this is not the bachelorette, quite right now.

HAMMER: I don`t get the impression that you Catherine are easily intimidated. However, Casper, I need to know, was it intimidating entering into a royal family?

VAN DIEN: I didn`t even know at first. I read about it in "George" magazine and I was like, what? You`re a what? And she`s like, no, that`s really my mother and then with the foreign press were going, have you met the queen mother yet? Are you a prince?

HAMMER: When you were dating, better to keep all that under wraps.

OXENBERG: I don`t really play it up. It`s not really a big deal to me.

HAMMER: Now if I have my information correct, your mother is the second cousin of Prince Charles.

OXENBERG: Yes, that`s correct.

HAMMER: You did two TV movies starring as lady Di with the prince`s wedding. Now of course the Charles and Camilla wedding just happened. Did you guys get an invite?

OXENBERG: My mom was there and she was thrilled, because she was on CNN. That was her highlight.

HAMMER: Are you required to send a gift anyway?

VAN DIEN: No, I don`t think so. No gift.

HAMMER: You better check on that.

OXENBERG: We can send each other a gift.

VAN DIEN: I`ll send you a gift. I`ll buy you some more jewelry.

HAMMER: I have to ask you, of course, a lot of criticism was hurled at Charles over this wedding. What do you think of all that?

OXENBERG: He`s got to follow his heart. God bless him, I wish he had been able to do that his entire life than live a life of duty and it`s definitely -- I was proposed to by Prince Andrew at the wedding, so that lifestyle to me -- well, also I`m glad I didn`t marry my second cousin, that would have really been a bit weird. That life of duty is really, it`s a personal sacrifice, so he`s getting to follow his heart and finally marry the woman that he always loved.

HAMMER: I appreciate your thoughts on that, and I wish you the best of luck with the show.

OXENBERG: Thank you AJ.

HAMMER: Casper and Catherine, thanks for joining us and of course I MARRIED A PRINCESS will make its debut this Monday on Lifetime. Karyn.

BRYANT: Britney`s baby news is of course great news for comedy writers. That`s coming up in laughter dark and there`s still time for you to sound off on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Martha Stewart`s house arrest, is it too lenient? You can vote at cnn.com/showbiztonight or e-mail us at showbiztonight@cnn.com. We are going to read some of your thoughts live next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: It is time now to get your laugh on in "laughter dark." As we do every night, we bring you the late-night laughs you might have missed.

BRYANT: Britney Spears and Kevin Federline`s baby news tops the late night talk shows and on the TONIGHT show, Jay leno is breathing a sigh of relief.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JAY LENO: Well, folks, you are looking at one happy man. Earlier today I was on the Maury Povich show, took a DNA test to prove I`m not the father of Britney Spears` baby. Whew, I am so happy about that. You know, but congratulations Britney Spears. This is her first child, and congratulations to her husband Kevin Federline. I believe this is his first legitimate child, so very exciting, very exciting.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: OK.

BRYANT: Yeah. All right, Jay. And so if you ever wondered what Britney and Kevin`s baby will look like.

HAMMER: Well, the folks at late night with Conan O`Brien used the state of the art technology that they have to put this picture together.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

CONAN O`BRIEN: Just so you know, it tells us what the baby is going to look like. It looks into the future. It`s amazing technology. Of course, the parents are Britney Spears and Kevin Federline. It`s a good-looking couple, and man I want to knock that hat of his head, but anyway, there they are and let`s use this amazing technology and see what their baby is going to look like. Let`s take a look right now. I`m just curious. Oh! Wow, there`s some Mickey Rourke in there, I think. You know, we also have the ability we just developed to see what the kid`s going to look like a little later in life, a couple of years down the line. We can look at that right now. It`s actually animated footage. Can we look at that, please? Let`s see what the kid`s going to look like. I`m glad we showed that footage. Now my dad will get a royalty check.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: That technology is great.

BRYANT: It`s great. Conan is funny. He`s getting funnier, too. He`s really quite good.

HAMMER: I`m staying up late for it, too.

Earlier we mentioned that Martha Stewart`s house arrest lets her leave her Bedford home for 48 hours a week for work-related events. Well, this week, she used some of that time to accept awards for two of her publications. Throughout the show we`ve been asking you to vote online on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Martha Stewart`s house arrest, is it too lenient? Here`s the votes so far. It`s almost half and half. 41 percent of you say yes, it is a little bit too lenient, 59 percent of you say no, not too lenient. We`ve gotten some e-mails on the topic as well including one from Bryan in Birmingham, Michigan who says, five months in prison was more than enough.

Cam writes, I think it`s too harsh. She`s not a threat to anyone and she is entitled to learn her living. Well said, thank you. Remember, you can continue to vote. You can do it by going to cnn.com/showbiztonight.

BRYANT: Get ready, people, it`s time to see what`s playing on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT tomorrow, which means we`re going to have to talk to the marquee guy. Take it away.

ANNOUNCER: Here come the judges. It`s Paula and Randy from AMERICAN IDOL. When Simon`s away, what will they say? Join us for from idol play when Randy and Paula join us tomorrow on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

Also tomorrow, it`s Friday, and it`s green day, and green day makes our day, as they take a seat for a showbiz sit down. This is the marquee guy, and I`m not an American idiot. AJ, Karyn, don`t you dare.

HAMMER: Are you sure about that marquee guy?

Tomorrow, Randy and Paula.

BRYANT: It`s going to be fun. I`m a fan of the show, so I`ve got a lot of questions.

HAMMER: And Paula seemed really clear on who she thinks is going to at least be in the finals.

BRYANT: Yes she does.

HAMMER: We`ll get her statement on that. That`s it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. We will see you back here tomorrow for Friday.

BRYANT: Right, Nancy Grace is next right after the latest from "headline news."
