A.J. HAMMER, CO-HOST: I`m A.J. Hammer.
BROOKE ANDERSON, CO-HOST: And I`m Brooke Anderson. TV`s only live entertainment news show starts right now.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, and baby makes five. Major baby news out of Hollywood tonight. Angelina is expecting. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT all over the story all America is talking about. The inside story, how she and Brad Pitt started out, how they became Hollywood`s super couple and how now they`re adding to the family.

Jessica Simpson in shock. Simpson walks her boots right to the stage at the People`s Choice awards. But watch what happens when George Lopez puts up his dukes, and goes for the knockout.

GEORGE LOPEZ, COMEDIAN: Hey, that makes up for "Dukes of Hazzard."

ANDERSON: Tonight, Simpson`s reaction when Nick Lachey`s name came up. And what`s going on with her post-"Newlyweds" career.

Caught on tape. A second grader on a joy ride. A casino robbery. A woman crashing into a supermarket. A high-speed chase in Los Angeles. All caught on tape. Tonight, the cameras were rolling, and SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has the amazing video. You can`t blink.

JOHN VOIGT, ACTOR: Hi, I`m John Voigt. And if it happened today, it`s on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Hi, there, I`m Brooke Anderson live in Hollywood.

HAMMER: I`m A.J. Hammer, live in New York City.

Tonight, baby news that sent the nation buzzing. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are having a baby. After more than a year of speculation as to the true nature of their relationship, well, let`s just say you couldn`t get any better evidence than that big bump on Angelina Jolie.

Five a.m. just today, Blackberries going crazy, going off worldwide as Angelina confirmed it and the news just spread like wild fire. "People" magazine got exclusive photos, and we have a first look at that bump.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Sibila Vargas live in Hollywood with the biggest celebrity story in the entertainment world -- Sibila.

SIBILA VARGAS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: It`s absolutely crazy, A.J. Hollywood`s hottest couple is having a kid. It looks like one big happy family for Pitt, Jolie, Maddox, Zahara and the little one that`s on the way. But are wedding bells in their future? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT decided to find out.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

VARGAS (voice-over): My, oh my, word does travel fast, especially when Hollywood`s most talked about couple says they`re expecting their first child together.

That`s right, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are going to have a baby, and it sure didn`t take long for news to get out. Angelina spilled the beans in Dominican Republic this week to an aid worker. She`s there right now filming her latest movie with Robert De Niro.

In no time at all, word made its way all the way back to New York City, where "People" magazine first heard about it, confirmed it and, at the crack of dawn, told the world.

JESS CAGLE, "PEOPLE" MAGAZINE: She said she was pregnant early on Tuesday. We kicked right into action, and then she confirmed it exclusively to "People magazine."

VARGAS: Their exclusive photos of Jolie and her bump will hit newsstands this Friday. But of course, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT got your sneak peak.

CAGLE: For the first time, in these pictures, you really can see that she`s pregnant. And she seemed to sort of be ready to say, by wearing this tight, black tank top, "Hey, world, I`m pregnant and I`m ready to tell you about it."

VARGAS: She was ready to tell the world. Jolie and Pitt are extremely mum about their private life. Incredibly, the two have never publicly admitted to being a couple.

Rumor began buzzing that the two were an item 18 months ago when they began shooting "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." Then jaws dropped when these photos in "W" magazine showed Brad and Angelina looking like husband and wife. And look, with kids.

And the gossip only got more intense a few months later when Pitt and Aniston announced they were splitting up. The big rumor was that he wanted kids and she didn`t.

CAGLE: I don`t really know that children were the only point of contention in the Brad Pitt-Jennifer Aniston breakup. They were cleared two people who had married very young. They had grown apart over the years. However, it definitely does seem that Brad was very, very ready to start a family, because he suddenly has three children.

VARGAS: Three children, because Pitt has petitioned to adopt Jolie`s children, Maddox and Zahara. Last time Jolie stopped by SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, she told us those children are her world.

JOLIE: It is truly where my heart is, where I`ve always seen the world. It`s the most beautiful family I could think of for myself.

VARGAS: And now with another kid on the way, does this mean wedding bells for the couple?

CAGLE: I would be very surprised if they did not get married. Friends of theirs expect them to get married. They`re certainly not saying when they`re going to get married, but we would like to know.

VARGAS: Wouldn`t we all? Today`s news certainly has been all the buzz. Even the ladies of "The View" had something to say about it.

MEREDITH VIEIRA, CO-HOST, ABC`S "THE VIEW": I`m happy for them, but it`s stupid to say this, because everybody moves on, but I sort of feel sorry for Jennifer Aniston. How do you think she feels?

I know if it were me -- and you have to separate out. She said very clearly that she`s moved on. But once there`s a baby. There`s something about if somebody is just in lust with somebody. And then when there`s a baby, it`s just different.

VARGAS: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT caught up with "The View`s" Star Jones to get her point of view. She`s just signed on to be a relationship coach on AOL.

STAR JONES, CO-HOST, ABC`S "THE VIEW": Any time a couple has a baby, it adds pressure. You know, everyone always tells me when a child comes into your life, then your life changes forever. These people have figured out how to carve out a real life for them.

VARGAS: They`ve carved out a real life, all right, amidst nonstop hounding by the paparazzi and an unrelenting rumor mill. If they think the media attention is bad now, Jess Cagle says just wait.

CAGLE: It`s going to be enormous global news. I mean, we think the news is big today that she`s expecting. Wait until the child is born. I mean, they`re not going to have a moment`s peace, this couple.

VARGAS: Angelina Jolie is no dummy, and she`s using the press to her advantage. A die-hard humanitarian, the first person Jolie told of her pregnancy, a humanitarian worker. Cagle says it wasn`t by chance.

CAGLE: I think that she knew that this huge spotlight was going to shine on her when she made the announcement that she was pregnant. And she managed to do it in the way that she is sharing that spotlight with that part of the world, to a part of the world, being Haiti, that really does need some attention right now.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

VARGAS: And no official world on when the baby is due. But it could be sometime this summer.

And A.J., Jennifer Aniston`s camp says she`s got nothing to say on the matter and that she says, quote, "It is not in my practice of commenting on the lives of other people." So there you have it, mum`s the word.

HAMMER: Well, you mentioned this, but I think it`s important to emphasize, this is the official -- first official confirmation we have that Brad and Angelina are a couple more than a year later, which is kind of unbelievable, isn`t it?

VARGAS: Isn`t that? It`s amazing. It`s amazing that they never admitted it.

HAMMER: Thanks very much, Sibila. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Sibila Vargas. And we`re going to have more on Brad and Angelina`s big news, coming up later in the show in a live report which -- with "People" magazine. They were the first ones to break this story.

And of course this leads us to our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. You get to chime in on Brad and Angelina`s baby. Are you happy for them? You can vote by going to CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. Or e-mail us, ShowbizTonight@CNN.com. Your thoughts later in the show.

ANDERSON: Tonight, more late developing news in the raging controversy over the best-selling book Oprah Winfrey recommended to her viewers, a book that may not be what it`s cracked up to be.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has been all over the firestorm surrounding "A Million Little Pieces" and the claims that author James Frey may have exaggerated some of the details in his memoir.

Here`s what -- here`s what`s news today. Some people have called the book`s publisher, Random House, asking about a refund. Random House says its standard policy is this: if you bought the book directly from them, you can get a refund, but if you bought it from a store, it`s up to the store.

Now, you can be sure there will be more news tonight when James Frey appears on CNN`s "LARRY KING LIVE."

HAMMER: Tonight we have it caught on tape. The SHOWBIZ TONIGHT news room literally filled with hundreds of monitors. We`re watching the news feeds coming in from all over the country. Well, tonight there were a number of gripping and shocking stories that we just couldn`t take our eyes off of, and neither will you.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): First off, we`re in Tennessee, where a 7-year- old -- yes, I said 7-year-old -- is driving this pickup truck, and right behind him, police in hot pursuit. Police thought it was a drunk driver, but they say, the second grader had the sense to wear his seatbelt and use turn signals.

Then scanning the satellites, another high-speed police chase ending badly, this time in Los Angeles.

And then to Bakersfield, California. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT got a hold of this tape, a 79-year-old woman crashing her out of control car into a supermarket window and running over another woman and her two kids.

Then watch this Las Vegas casino robbery gone bad. Security guards chased the robber out of the casino and, as he ran, shots fired. You can see the gun blazing. One guard was hit in the leg, but he`s fine.

This is no movie we`re talking about. Every piece of video you`re seeing was all caught on tape, and it`s not only real, it`s the news of the day, playing all over the country over and over again, and audiences are gripped. Some critics say it might be too much.

BOB THOMPSON, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY: It`s human nature to want to see stuff like this caught on tape. I don`t think that`s surprising at all. What`s potentially problematic is how much time in the news cycle gets taken up on this stuff just because we have the video. None of these things are really important stories for us to know as citizens.

HAMMER: But as you`ll see later on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, surveillance videos like this Utah robbery caught on tape help police nab criminals, and cops say showing these videos help find the bad guys and put them behind bars.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Wow. Those images pretty unbelievable, pretty shocking at times, in fact.

All right, moving now to one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. She says the one thing that makes us all green with envy, that she loves to eat and that she never exercises. Salma Hayek also has a theory about the pressure to be thin. That`s next.

HAMMER: Plus, we`ve got curious George. Golden Globe nominee George Clooney tells us what`s piquing his interest these days and how he feels about being up for three awards. Our "Gold Rush" series continues, coming up.

ANDERSON: And the dis heard around the world. We`ll tell you how George Lopez took Jessica Simpson`s breath away, and not in a good way, coming up.

HAMMER: First, here comes tonight`s "Entertainment Weekly Great American Pop Culture Quiz." At the Academy Awards back in 1983, what film beat out Steven Spielberg`s "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" in the best picture race? "Gandhi," "Tootsie," "The Verdict" or "Missing"? We`re coming straight back with the answer.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Once again, tonight`s "Entertainment Weekly Great American Pop Culture Quiz." At the Academy Awards back in 1983, what was the film that beat out Steven Spielberg`s "E.T." in the best picture race? Was it A, "Gandhi"; B, "Tootsie"; C, "The Verdict"; or D, "Missing"? The answer, A, "Gandhi."

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s only live entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson.

Salma Hayek is speaking out about thinness. She says she`s not buying it. In an interview with "Harper`s Bazaar," Hayek says she never works out, with the exception of taking a yoga class a few times a year, and that she loves to cook and eat.

Hayek says, quote, "I find it very boring to have to be skinny all the time. It bores me and makes me bitchy." And I am quoting here. "And yet in Hollywood, it`s OK if you`re a bitch, as long as you`re skinny. A lot of these girls who spend so much time trying to be skinny, everyone is complaining about them. They don`t make people feel good about themselves."

There`s a woman who speaks her mind. Good for her. And for more about Salma Hayek, pick up the February issue of "Harper`s Bazaar," on news stands January 17.

HAMMER: Hayek isn`t the only one lashing out at Hollywood`s pressure to be thin. Jamie-Lynn Sigler is also weighing in on the crisis. "The Sopranos" Star has been outspoken about her own battle and ultimate victory over eating disorders. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT caught up with Sigler at a "New York Times" panel on "The Sopranos," and she offered this advice for women everywhere who are suffering.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JAMIE-LYNN SIGLER, ACTRESS: Don`t be afraid to ask for help. Don`t be ashamed. It seems like a deep dark place that you`ll never get out of. But I promise you that I was at the depths of the depths. And I was able to get past it. So you know, just reach out to people that love you around you, and you`ll get through.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Sigler also told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT she`s very excited about "The Sopranos`" new season. And on tomorrow`s show, we`re going to reveal some of the secrets of "The Sopranos" making its eagerly awaited return on March 12.

ANDERSON: Of all the stars nominated for Golden Globe awards this year, perhaps the one shining brightest is George Clooney. The actor has received overwhelming acclaim for two politically charged movies he spearheaded, "Syriana" and "Good Night and Good Luck." And he told us he hopes the acclaim brings more attention to hot button issues.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): With three individual Golden Globe nominations for two different films, George Clooney just may be the man of the evening at this year`s awards ceremony on January 16.

The Edward R. Morrow drama, "Good Night and Good Luck," which Clooney co-wrote, directed and co-starred in, earned him nominations for best director and best screenplay.

GEORGE CLOONEY, ACTOR: Why am I being investigated?

ANDERSON: And the political thriller "Syriana," which Clooney produced, won him a nomination for best supporting actor.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT caught up with Clooney just last night at the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures gala. He told us there was some luck involved.

CLOONEY: We`re just hoping that the movies were successful, because you don`t want them to be civics lessons. You actually want them to be entertainments. So our job was to try and make them entertaining, and if they were, which was sort of surprising, that people liked them like that. So we feel like we got lucky.

ANDERSON: And when I sat down with Clooney moments after the Golden Globe nominations were announced, he was shocked by all the buzz.

CLOONEY: If you started this time last year and said that at the end of the year, not only would they be nominations but both films making money, we would have thought -- I would have thought you`re crazy.

ANDERSON: A crazy year indeed for the man who got his start as the heartthrob handyman in "The Facts of Life."

CLOONEY: OK, let`s see what we got.

ANDERSON: And as the handsome Dr. Ross on the TV drama "E.R."

Twenty years, multiple TV projects and more than 20 films later, Clooney`s career has evolved from struggling actor to multitasking movie mogul.

CLOONEY: The older I get, the more interested I am in other people`s issues, and trying to find out why they feel a specific way. So I think, if I`m growing at all, it`s just by asking more questions.

ANDERSON: Both "Good Night" and "Syriana" raised topical political questions.

CLOONEY: I think that I`m curious as a filmmaker and as a human being and a citizen of the country.

ANDERSON: And Clooney`s Golden Globe nominations suggest the critics like what he`s asking.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: And tomorrow our Golden Globe coverage continues. We will bring you a heartfelt and revealing interview with Shirley MacLaine, who received a best supporting actress nomination for "In Her Shoes." It is an interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. And we`ll be the only entertainment news show live on Monday at the Golden Globes.

HAMMER: Tonight in a "SHOWBIZ Sitdown," Vanessa Williams. She was the very first African-American Miss America. And for over two decades, she`s really done it all in the world of entertainment.

Well, now she`s taking on a new role as one of the stars of a new television series, "South Beach." I had the chance to sit down with Williams to discuss her career and the family life that she balances along with it.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: So, shooting in Miami, being on location, having to work down there.

VANESSA WILLIAMS, ACTOR: Not too bad.

HAMMER: Not a bad gig, right?

WILLIAMS: It`s been fantastic. I mean usually when they do these shows, they do the exteriors and then shoot the bulk of it in L.A. on a sound stage. But we are living in Miami and shooting in Miami, and you see a lot of the landmarks. You see a lot of the people.

HAMMER: Yes. A lot of the eye candy.

WILLIAMS: A lot of the bikinis, guys.

HAMMER: Real familiar to anybody who`s been to South Beach. And for anybody who hasn`t been to South Beach, it`s kind of like going on vacation.

WILLIAMS: Absolutely. But you feel you`re in another country, too, because there`s so many different ethnic groups and languages. And it`s a real cosmopolitan kind of feel.

HAMMER: And you got a real taste of a big part of their culture and a big part of what happened over the last six months with the hurricanes. You guys actually, I assume, had to shut down shop for awhile.

WILLIAMS: Three times. You know, Katrina was the first, which had a lot of flooding for us.

HAMMER: Did they evacuate you out of there?

WILLIAMS: No, I actually was in my 28th floor apartment watching the whole thing. It was kind of thrilling, because I`m from New York, so we never have a hurricane. So I went out on the balcony the first -- maybe the first half hour. And then by the time it started getting really kind of scary, I closed the door and just huddled with my daughter and her girlfriends who were down for the weekend.

HAMMER: Did you get nervous at all?

WILLIAMS: Yes, because we have, you know, floor to ceiling glass panes. So we knew it was hurricane proof, but you never know if somebody - - you know, somebody`s chair is going to smash the window. So luckily, we were fine.

Rita was OK. But Wilma was the one that did the most damage for us, and they -- we got the chance to go home for a week, and came back, and our whole production office was ruined and they had to locate. So it was tough.

HAMMER: Jennifer Lopez, one of the executive producers on the show. What is her exact involvement? Is she a hands-on person with this or is just kind of way behind the scenes?

WILLIAMS: I met her once when we did the up-fronts when they announced the show, UPN announced their fall lineup. And so she announced us as a -- we had done the pilot, announced us to come on mid season.

And her production partner is down for the shooting. I don`t know exactly how much she does in terms of writing and hiring.

HAMMER: She may not be actually writing the scripts, but we know "South Beach" a favorite place for J. Lo.

WILLIAMS: Oh, yes. Yes. Absolutely.

HAMMER: You mention your daughter, and you have four kids.

WILLIAMS: Yes.

HAMMER: You play a working mom on the show. You`re running this hotel, and you have a 22-year-old son, I believe. You have an 18-year-old son in real life and three other kids. What`s the deal? Did they all move with you to Miami?

WILLIAMS: No, no. They come down for the weekends, which you know, and I come up for -- when I can. But they come down. That`s the great thing about being in Miami. It`s two and a half hours away. So they can go to school, jump on the plane, be home, be down for dinner, hang out for the weekend, and be back and have no jet lag. So they love it. They love the sunshine.

HAMMER: Who`s going to complain?

WILLIAMS: Exactly. They love the beach. They`re enjoying it.

HAMMER: Look at what you`ve done in your career. You`ve been at it for over 20 years, on stage, on television, in the recording studio, putting out the hits, No. 1 songs, 14 Grammy nominations, Oscar, Golden Globe, a whole bunch of major films that people know, from "Eraser" to "Soul Food." Proudest moment?

WILLIAMS: The proudest moment? Oh, I would say on the Oscars was pretty amazing. When you sing an Oscar-nominated song, and then you win, and then the composer gets up and thanks you for their Oscar. That was -- that was pretty major.

HAMMER: And in life in general?

WILLIAMS: There`s so many great, great pearls of -- on the string of life. I mean, there`s not one thing that`s -- that really leaps out. Of course having kids, that`s the biggest blessing I could ever ask for, because it`s always changing. And it`s, you know, it`s what I, you know, I think what I do best as a parent.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Vanessa also told me that she`s really never had any problems balancing having four kids and have this amazing career over 20 years.

Well, you can see Vanessa tonight on the two-hour special premiere of "South Beach" on the UPN network.

ANDERSON: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes together on a talk show. And we have your sneak peek coming up.

HAMMER: And it was the elaborate wedding that had everybody talking when it happened. You are cordially invited to stick around to hear what Star Jones Reynolds thinks about it in retrospect. Plus, why she won`t say how she lost all that weight. Coming up in the interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

ANDERSON: And caught on tape, surveillance cameras capture a dramatic scene as a woman is attacked inside a store and the amazing turn of events that sent her husband rushing to her rescue, coming up.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are doing their first talk show together since they announced they`re getting married and expecting a baby. They`re going to be on "Ellen" tomorrow. And tonight, we have your sneak peek at Ellen giving a little advice on how Katie can get ready for the delivery room. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ELLEN DEGENERES, TALK SHOW HOST: Are you practicing the breathing and all that stuff? You ready?

KATIE HOLMES, ACTRESS: I feel good. Yes, I`m ready.

TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: We haven`t started those classes yet.

HOLMES: No.

DEGENERES: I teach on weekends. It`s basically just like that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Ellen also joked that she wants to be the baby`s godmother. For the full interview with Tom and Katie, watch tomorrow`s "Ellen."

HAMMER: Well, you know, Tom and Katie aren`t the only Hollywood super couple with a baby on the way. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are also expecting. Coming up next, we`re going to talk about why they didn`t come clean when all those rumors started flying around about them, in a live report with "People" magazine.

ANDERSON: Plus, there were times when Jessica Simpson looked like she wanted to walk her boots all over George Lopez at the People`s Choice Awards. What he said and how she reacted, that`s coming up.

HAMMER: And talk about an uneasy rider. You may have heard that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger got in a little bit of a motorcycle accident, but unfortunately, the trouble doesn`t stop there. That`s coming up next.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT will be right back.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 31 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. And you are watching TV`s only live entertainment news show.

A.J., Jessica Simpson, who recently split from husband Nick Lachey -- of course we`ve all heard about that -- she really put on a brave face last night at the People`s Choice Awards, as she was, in essence, being roasted by comedian George Lopez.

HAMMER: Oh, yes.

ANDERSON: He slammed her personal life, her professional life. Coming up, what he said and how she reacted.

HAMMER: George did not hold back.

ANDERSON: No, he didn`t.

HAMMER: Another piece of amazing video that we have to show you, a very dramatic crime with every riveting moment caught on tape. You will not want to stray from your television. You will not want to blink while you watch it. The whole crime and how it was resolved, coming up in a few minutes on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

ANDERSON: It`s pretty incredible, A.J. But now it is time for our "Hot Headlines" first.

Arnold Schwarzenegger says "I`ll be back" with a license. The California governor admitted he did not have a motorcycle license for his Harley, which he crashed over the weekend. He had to get 15 stitches. And his staff vows he won`t try it again until he gets the proper credentials. Meanwhile, police have reportedly forwarded details of the incident to L.A.`s attorney`s office to determine whether the Governator will face a fine.

And it looks like Slim Shady is back with his lady. Eminem`s ex-wife, Kim, has applied for a marriage license to wed the rapper. The couple, shown here in the video "Mockingbird," initially married in 1999 and split two years later. But last month, Eminem announced the two were getting back together. The couple, who have a young daughter, have 30 days from the application date to remarry.

OK, "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" are about to become mom and pop. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has confirmed Angelina Jolie is pregnant with Brad Pitt`s baby. It`s the first biological child for the pair. Jolie has two adopted children. And paperwork was recently filed to change their last names to Jolie-Pitt. Word is the baby is due this summer.

And joining me now live with the story behind the story, from Hollywood, "People" magazine West Coast associate bureau chief, Julie Jordon. Hi there, Julie.

JULIE JORDAN, "PEOPLE" MAGAZINE: Hi.

ANDERSON: All right. This is obviously big news in Hollywood.

JORDAN: Huge.

ANDERSON: How did you guys at "People" magazine hear about it?

JORDAN: Well, essentially Brad and Angelina landed in the Dominican Republic. A friend of hers who runs a relief organization in Haiti came to greet her and saw that her profile had changed slightly. So he inquired very politely if she was pregnant. And she said to him, "Yes, I am," at which point their representatives confirmed to "People" magazine that a baby is on the way.

ANDERSON: And, yes, indeed it is. The news is out. But I want to ask: Why did it take them so long to tell us all about this? Because name any magazine, any tabloid, they`ve had this story for weeks, for months. We`ve been hearing about this. Why didn`t, from the get-go -- why weren`t they just open about it?

JORDAN: Well, I think ultimately any woman, you know, in a beginning stages of a pregnancy is going to be a little guarded until she gets to her second trimester, which is where Angelina appears to be.

Also, it`s Hollywood. You know, so of course they want to keep everything as private as possible until the time where they feel ready to announce the good news. So obviously, they felt the timing was right. And everyone was pretty excited yesterday to get the news.

ANDERSON: All right. And you say it appears she`s in her second trimester. I want to take a look at some of the photos. She does have quite a bump.

JORDAN: Yes, it really is.

ANDERSON: But she`s a slender woman. She looks fantastic, as always, even pregnant.

JORDAN: I know.

ANDERSON: What is the word on when this baby is due?

JORDAN: Well, she says it`s due summer, so early summer, late summer. I think you can basically look at the bump, which is what we love to do in Hollywood, you know, the baby bump watch. But I would say she`s, like, you know, really getting into her second trimester. So I think maybe even like early summer we might see a baby.

ANDERSON: All right. And what about Brad adopting Angelina Jolie`s children, Maddox and Zahara? What`s the status there?

JORDAN: Well, he`s still -- that`s an ongoing process. You know, he`s been very vocal in the past about wanting a huge family. You know, she even said the day before, when we talked to her -- when she was talked to about the pregnancy that she`s ready to adopt again. So they`re not -- just because they`re having a baby of their own, this is in no way halting plans for them to broaden, you know, even more, in terms of looking to other countries to adopt children.

ANDERSON: It sounds like they will continue to expand their family. She already has two gorgeous kids. No doubt this one will be beautiful, as well.

JORDAN: Oh...

(CROSSTALK)

ANDERSON: Julie Jordan of "People" magazine, thank you so much.

JORDAN: Thanks.

ANDERSON: All right. And you can pick up the new issue of "People" magazine featuring the latest on Brad and Angelina this Friday. And that, of course, leads us again to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day." Brad and Angelina`s baby: Are you happy for them?

Keep voting at CNN.com/showbiztonight. And write us at showbiztonight@CNN.com. Your e-mails are coming up at 55 past the hour.

HAMMER: Let`s flashback now, shall we? One year ago, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey appeared at the People`s Choice Awards all lovey-dovey and happy as can be. They even took home a prize that night. It was for favorite reality show. Well, tonight, a year later, it`s a bit of a different story. In fact, it`s a bit of an embarrassing story at that. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Sibila Vargas joins us live once again from Hollywood with the details -- Sibila?

SIBILA VARGAS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, A.J.

Jessica Simpson filed for divorce from Nick Lachey last month. She attended the People`s Choice Awards with her parents this time. Jess kicked off the show with a sexy performance, not knowing she would later have to endure some, well, let`s just say uncomfortable moments, courtesy of comedian George Lopez. And this was the dis heard `round the world.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

VARGAS (voice-over): There`s Jessica Simpson, notably Nick-less, in a red, hot number at the People`s Choice Awards. She got lots of applause for her performance of "These Boots were Made for Walking," her sexy remake for the movie "The Dukes of Hazzard." That was how the night began. Then this...

GEORGE LOPEZ, COMEDIAN: The producers wanted me to apologize to Nick Lachey for not being here tonight, but we had enough seat fillers. That`s what we do. Is she laughing?

Hey. That makes up for "Dukes of Hazzard."

VARGAS: Ouch. Jess tried to brush it off. An uncomfortable situation, for sure. But, hey, remember, George Lopez is a comedian.

NICKI GOSTIN, "NEWSWEEK" MAGAZINE: It`s fair game. And he`s a good - - the truth of the matter is that, last year, Jessica Simpson made about $35 million. And Nick Lachey did not make $35 million.

VARGAS: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was backstage at the awards last night. Simpson ducked past the pack of reporters waiting for her, but George Lopez`s friend, Sandra Bullock, stopped by. Here she is trying to smooth things over.

SANDRA BULLOCK, ACTRESS: When you get George, you get all of George. As long as I`m not in the line of fire -- which I often am -- I love his work. I didn`t quite get the joke either, so maybe she didn`t get the joke.

VARGAS: Twenty-five-year-old Jessica Simpson filed for divorce from Nick Lachey last month after more than three years of marriage. So far, both sides have been pretty quiet as they adjust to single life. But don`t expect a big star like Jess to keep her lips sealed for too much longer.

GOSTIN: I think you sort of almost have to have that mourning period where you`re upset about the relationship finishing and you don`t really talk to the press. I`m sure, in a couple of months, we`ll see some magazine cover where she tells her side of story, just like Jennifer Aniston did.

VARGAS: And just like Jennifer, Jessica is big business. She reportedly made $35 million last year thanks to a clothing line, a cosmetics and fragrance line, and a starring role on the big screen. Nick dabbled on TV and lent his sports insight to ESPN. He`s said to have made about $5 million.

GOSTIN: There really is a huge disparity between their earning levels. And what`s going to be interesting is that they did not sign a prenuptial agreement. So any money that was earned during the marriage has to be split 50-50.

VARGAS: Simpson has a very strong fan base, made even stronger as Nick and Jess shared their lives on MTV`s "Newlyweds."

JESSICA SIMPSON, SINGER: Is this chicken what I have here or is this fish?

VARGAS: What will be interesting, though, is whether those fans will stick around now that the couple has split.

GOSTIN: She`s always had a very wholesome image. And she famously told the press about how she saved her virginity for her marriage. And now, when she`s dating, it`s just going to be a different story.

VARGAS: As for Nick, most people seem to think he`ll be just fine.

GOSTIN: He seems like a really easy-going, nice person from what you can tell. Who knows what`s in store? Maybe we`ll see Congressman Nick Lachey one day.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

VARGAS: And Jessica Simpson took home the prize for favorite song from a movie. Some other notable winners from the People`s Choice Awards, best overall film and best drama honors went to "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith." Reese Witherspoon won favorite leading lady. And Ellen DeGeneres took home a trophy for favorite daytime talk show host.

A.J., I don`t remember a People`s Choice Award being that racy, though. Do you?

HAMMER: No, no. It was a little over-the-top for the People`s Choice Awards, but it certainly was lots of fun.

VARGAS: It sure was.

HAMMER: Thanks a lot, Sibila. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Sibila Vargas.

Well, coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, Reynolds raps. A revealing chat with Star Jones Reynolds. She shares her view on gaining love and losing weight. The interview you`ll see only on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

ANDERSON: And you really won`t believe your eyes. A daring robbery caught on tape. This is one close encounter that will keeping you gasping. And how it ends is just as surprising. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has the video vengeance everybody is talking about.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: It is time now for a "Showbiz Sitdown" with Star Jones Reynolds. She is one of the five ladies on ABC`s "The View" and, during her nine seasons on the show, we not only learned of her very strong opinions but her personal struggle with weight, where, at 300 pounds, Star decided to face her fears and lose the weight. Well, now she`s half her former size, married, and the author of a new book, which is called "Shine: A Physical, Emotional and Spiritual Journey to Finding Love."

Joining me now, Star Jones Reynolds. Excellent to see you.

STAR JONES REYNOLDS, TALK SHOW HOST: Hi, A.J., how you doing?

HAMMER: I`m sure you`re hearing this a lot and probably don`t get tired of it, you look fantastic.

JONES REYNOLDS: I feel fantastic. So that is a nice thing to hear. I am 100 percent healthy. No asthma, the ability to do more things than I ever thought possible. So, yes, I`m feeling good.

HAMMER: And in getting ready to sit down with you, I was looking at some of the pictures from the past. And I want to throw one up here.

JONES REYNOLDS: OK.

HAMMER: And I forgot, honestly. And this is good thing. I forgot. You know, it`s gotten to that point where I forgot that that`s how you looked.

JONES REYNOLDS: You know, I look at those photographs. And people ask me all the time, "Does it upset you?" I said, no, actually, it inspires me. It lets me know that that is something that I never want to be again. That is indicative of being unhealthy.

It`s one thing to be full-figured, which I like, because I still am. I still got a little booty. Come on now. I`m not that different. But it`s another thing to be unhealthy and morbidly obese.

HAMMER: Sure.

JONES REYNOLDS: And that`s where I was. So that`s why I wrote the book. I knew that my struggle was not very different than other women. Mine just may have been on television. But every women who has faced an issue that involves their weight, their emotions, or questions about their spirituality has had the same struggle.

HAMMER: Dealing with the same things.

JONES REYNOLDS: Absolutely.

HAMMER: And what goes on inside.

JONES REYNOLDS: I`m not special. Mine is just louder.

HAMMER: And a whole lot has been made, as you obviously know, of the fact that you haven`t revealed how you lost the weight. You dealt with that in the book.

JONES REYNOLDS: I try to, at least. I try to be as honest as possible.

HAMMER: And you really are very candid about so many things. And it says right here on the back that you`re candid about your health, your heart, and your spirit. But can you just set the record straight for people who are wondering, why won`t you come clean, why won`t you just say what it was?

JONES REYNOLDS: Well, I have to be really honest with you. When you say "come clean," that suggests that it`s something to hide. That`s not what it is.

HAMMER: I withdraw that. Just in terms of setting the record straight and saying, "Hey, this is how I did it. Make your own informed decision. Maybe it will work for you. Maybe it won`t work for you."

JONES REYNOLDS: You and I know that that`s not how it works in our business. You can say, "Make your own informed decision," but in reality what people will do is they will make you the poster child for a particular method.

HAMMER: Do you really think -- do you think that would happen for sure?

JONES REYNOLDS: Absolutely. And I`m scared that someone will follow my plan and not follow the plan that their doctor would make for them.

HAMMER: OK.

JONES REYNOLDS: I had to really think long and hard what my responsibility is to the women out there. It would be a lot easier to just say, "I did this. You, too, can do that. Look at me. I`m fabulous." That`s not right.

HAMMER: Fair enough. Fair enough.

JONES REYNOLDS: You know, it was a long struggle. And I know that other women deal with it. So I`ve decided to try to be as responsible as I could.

HAMMER: Well, you`re clearly happy with your health and you`re happily newly married.

JONES REYNOLDS: Yes.

HAMMER: What a wedding that was. And it`s really interesting. Everybody made a big deal over how elaborate your wedding was.

JONES REYNOLDS: It wasn`t even that elaborate.

HAMMER: From hearing you speaking -- oh, give me a break.

JONES REYNOLDS: Oh, come on. I`m a Southern girl.

HAMMER: Yes, where did you have your wedding, Star Jones?

JONES REYNOLDS: I had my wedding here in Manhattan.

HAMMER: And where in Manhattan?

JONES REYNOLDS: At the Waldorf-Astoria.

HAMMER: Yes, exactly.

JONES REYNOLDS: There are weddings there every day of the year.

HAMMER: No, but, to be fair, if you were not on TV as long as you had the means, my guess is you would have done such an elaborate wedding and brought your family in if you could have anyway.

JONES REYNOLDS: I would have done the exact same wedding, whether or not it had been in Manhattan or in Virginia, where my husband is from, or North Carolina, where I`m from.

You know, girls have two days where they`re the center of attention. The day they`re born and the day they`re married. And if you think about it for a minute, in our country, when you`re over 40 and you`re overweight, people don`t expect you to get the guy of your dreams. They don`t expect you to get married. They expect you to be kidnapped by a terrorist before you get all that.

HAMMER: Right.

(LAUGHTER)

JONES REYNOLDS: And so I know that it was a little over-the-top for them. But for me, it was filled with family and friends and love. And that`s what we share in "Shine." And do you know the women who have read this book? Do you know what they tell me?

HAMMER: What?

JONES REYNOLDS: "This is our effort to shine with you. So, Star, help us with that." And that`s what made me feel the best about it.

HAMMER: Well, Star Jones Reynolds, thank you for sharing and shining with us here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

JONES REYNOLDS: OK.

HAMMER: We appreciate that.

JONES REYNOLDS: Thank you.

HAMMER: And the new book, once again, called "Shine," is in bookstores now.

ANDERSON: Americans are buzzing about a terrifying robbery with a surprise twist worthy of a Hitchcock movie. But this unscripted incident was all too real, and every heart-stopping moment was caught on tape. Here`s CNN`s Ted Rowlands for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANGIE HIRSCHE, ROBBERY VICTIM: He came flying over the countertop.

TED ROWLANDS, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Angie Hirsche was alone. She had just opened her check cashing store when she was attacked.

HIRSCHE: He was wearing a yellow sweat suit. He was like a...

DISPATCHER: OK, calm down.

ROWLANDS: The man that attacked Angie took her by surprise. But right away, she noticed his gun was fake.

HIRSCHE: I could tell it was an orange plastic thing on the front of it. It was the cheapest (INAUDIBLE) like you get at a dollar store. I thought it was a joke at first.

ROWLANDS: It wasn`t a joke. The man wanted money. And as you can see in this surveillance tape, he forces Angie to the floor to open the safe.

LIEUTENANT DOUG EDWARDS, OREM POLICE DEPARTMENT: She gave the money to the suspect. There was absolutely nothing in that safe that was worth her life.

ROWLANDS: The attacker then tries to get a hold of Angie. He uses his body to pin her against the wall, but she continues to squirm free.

HIRSCHE: He (INAUDIBLE) electrical tape and was trying to tie me up.

EDWARDS: She didn`t want to be tied up. She talked him out of taking her into a back room because she was fearful that she`d be raped or worse.

HIRSCHE: I kept saying, "Someone`s going to come. Someone`s going to come. You`ve got to get out of here."

ROWLANDS: Angie, who`s married and the mother of two, says she continued to plea with the man to let her go and to leave. Then, after a few minutes, the phone on the counter starts to ring. You can see the attacker pause for just a second. Then he decides the best thing to do is to rip the phone out of the wall.

(on-screen): But he didn`t knock the phone out of the wall at all. In fact, all he really did was knock the receiver off. On the other end of the line was Angie`s husband, Cy.

(voice-over): Her husband could hear what was happening. He immediately called 911. A few moments later, Angie walks away from the attacker, and he decides to leave. She waits until he`s gone, locks the front door, and calls 911.

HIRSCHE: I`m just been robbed by a man.

ROWLANDS: She tells the dispatcher what happened, and she says she may know the attacker.

HIRSCHE: I think he could possibly be one of my customers that I gave money to not too long ago.

ROWLANDS: Police say she was right. They showed up and used the information on file at the store, including his home address, to identify the man they believe is the attacker.

EDWARDS: In fact, the officers got to his home before he did. And they were there waiting for him when he returned.

ROWLANDS: The best part of this amazing surveillance tape may be here at the end, when Angie`s husband, Cy, who`d rushed to the store, finally arrives and finds that his wife is OK.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Thank goodness for that. What a scary situation. That was CNN`s Ted Rowlands for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. And prosecutors are charging Junior Fia (ph), the man arrested by police, with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary, and aggravated kidnapping. All are felonies.

HAMMER: Still time for you to sound off in our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day." Brad and Angelina`s baby: Are you happy for them? You can vote by going to CNN.com/showbiztonight or write to us at showbiztonight@CNN.com. Your e-mails, live, next.

And rounding out the top five, "American Idol" winner Carrie Underwood with "Some Hearts."

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: A woman in Georgia has become the first person to win a new car just by watching "Wheel of Fortune." Vanna White surprised the woman by presenting her with the keys to the new car. It`s all part of the show`s "Wheel Watchers Club" spin I.D. program, where viewers at home can win prizes if their number matches the one shown at the end of the bonus round.

HAMMER: We`ve been asking you to vote online on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day." Brad and Angelina`s baby: Are you happy for them? Well, the vote tonight, given a margin of error, kind of an even split, with 58 percent of saying yes, 42 percent saying no.

Among the e-mails we`ve received, we heard from Mary in Texas who writes, "I`m very happy for Brad and Angelina. They`re very beautiful people from inside and out. I wish them the best."

Also heard from R.D. in Georgia who writes, "That`s going to be one beautiful baby."

ANDERSON: Indeed it is.

HAMMER: I got to say, I need the Marquee Guy to try that "fugheddabout it" one more time.

MARQUEE GUY: "Fugheddabout it."
