You could call it Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt`s dramatic new adventure, and it`s tied right to one of the most disturbing and brutal acts of terrorism we`ve seen since the War on Terror began. What`s more, there`s even a Jennifer Anniston connection here. It`s a fascinating story. CNN`s Mary Snow is with us tonight for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Mary.
MARY SNOW, CNN CORRESPONDENT: A.J., Angelina Jolie is one of the world`s best-known actresses. She rose to fame in action-adventures. But now the Oscar-winning star will take on another role, far afield from action adventure, about a woman`s heart-breaking real-life adventure.

SNOW (voice-over): The last time Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie teamed up on a movie, the 2005 action flick "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," they launched a romantic relationship followed by a lifetime`s worth of media coverage. Now, Brad and Angelina are working together again on a much more serious film partnership. And get this: Pitt was originally supposed to do it with his now ex-wife Jennifer Anniston.
NICKI GOSTIN, NEWSWEEK CORRESPONDENT: My reaction was that Angelina steals Jennifer Anniston`s husband and now she`s stealing her academy award role.
SNOW: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that Angelina Jolie will play Marianne Pearl in her first live-action movie role since giving birth to her and Brad`s baby.
Pearl is the widow of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and murdered by terrorists in Pakistan four years ago, who cut off his head and videotaped the horrific act. The movie is being produced by Brad Pitt`s production company, Plan B. Pitt originally founded that company with his then-wife Jennifer Anniston, and together, in 2003, they snagged the rights to Mariane Pearl`s memoir, titled A Mighty Heart.
GOSTIN: It was always - the understanding was, I think by most people, was that Jennifer Anniston was going to take the part of Mariane Pearl. It would have been a great role, and possibly and Oscar win or definitely an Oscar nominee. When the split-up, the company went to Brad Pitt, so now the role goes to his new partner, and that`s Angelina Jolie.
SNOW: It`s a meaty role for Jolie, and a heart-wrenching story.
Mariane Pearl was pregnant with her and Daniel Pearl`s first child when Daniel was kidnapped by militants while researching a story in Pakistan. Mariane led the desperate search for her husband.
PEARL: I haven`t slept for six days, but I have hope.
SNOW: That hope ended in heartbreak.
GEORGE W. BUSH, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: Laura and I and the American people are deeply saddened to learn about the loss of Daniel Pearl`s loss of life. We are especially sad for his unborn child, who will now know his father only through the memory of others.
PEARL: I know Danny has not been defeated by the people who killed him. His spirit, his faith, his conviction have not been defeated. And I am extremely proud of him.
SNOW: Now Mariane Pearl is raising her son Adam, who is now four, and traveling the world, reporting on serious women`s issues for Glamour Magazine. .
JILL HERZIG, GLAMOUR MAGAZINE: Mariane is traveling all over the world trying to highlight the extraordinary actions of ordinary people, and women who are living in terrible circumstances.
SNOW: Ironically, Pearl`s good works give her something in common with Angelina Jolie, who works with refugee relief.
GOSTIN: You imagine Mariane Pearl and Angelina Jolie hanging out, discussing world issues.
SNOW: As a matter of fact, they do hang out. We`ve seen them in New York City with their two little boys. Mariane Pearl says, quote, "I am delighted that Angelina Jolie will be playing my role in the adaptation of my book. I deeply admire her work and what she is committed to."
HERZIG: I think the two of them have developed a real bond and that should definitely help.
SNOW: Could it be that out of this Pitt-Jolie-Anniston triangle, Jolie could get a role of a lifetime?
HERZIG: We are talking about an Oscar-winning actress here. I think there`s very little that Angelina Jolie can`t do.

SNOW (on camera): Brad Pitt tells People Magazine he hopes the film can increase understanding of people of all faiths, adding, without anger or judgment. A.J.?

Well, Michael Jackson`s fate is in the hands of a jury. Have you heard that one before? This time around, Jackson being sued for more than $1 million by a porn producer. But wait, there`s more. His ex-wife is now suing him. And now there`s another crazy story that`s going around tonight that, get this, Michael Jackson actually paid a family off so they wouldn`t talk. Here to help us sort through this, entire investigative journalist Jane Velez- Mitchell, joining us tonight from Los Angeles. Nice to see you, Jane.
JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good to see you, A.J.
HAMMER: So you were writing a book about Jackson. You know the stuff better than anybody else. I want to start with this wild story. The New York Daily News reports those years ago, in the child molestation case against him, Jackson paid off a family before the cops ever got to Nederland. Now, we`ve never heard about this particular family. What is the story all about?
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, it`s an absolutely wild story, of course. Mark Shaple is suing Michael Jackson for $1.5 million. $300,000 of that he said he delivered for Michael to a mystery Mr. X in Argentina. Well now, the New York Daily News is reporting that`s actually a mystery family that fled from the United States to Argentina right after Neverland was raided in the fall of 2003 and then called Michael Jackson`s people up and said we need $300,000 for relocation money because we fled because we thought that the police were trying to talk to us about the past. Now, according to the Daily News, this family has been paid off in the past as well, dating back to the `90s. And of course you know that Michael Jackson very famously settled with another family for more than $20 million back in the `90s. I did speak to Jackson`s people. Jackson family attorney Brian Oxman calls the story nonsense and says it f it were true, prosecutor Tom Snedon would have known about it and we would have heard about it during the criminal trial.
HAMMER: It is such a wild story, and as you mentioned, it came to light because of the lawsuit he`s involved with this important producer in who supposedly lent Jackson money. Jackson said he was just absolutely shocked that this guy was a porn producer. I want to play you a little piece of tape. Roll the tape.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What is it you saw that shocked you?
MICHAEL JACKSON, ENTERTAINER: Oh, Mark directing this film and what he did in the film. What I saw on the screen. I didn`t believe it.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What did you see on the screen that you didn`t believe?
JACKSON: He was directing two guys. They were completely naked from head to toe, and he was directing, telling one what to do with the other and...

HAMMER: Apparently Michael watched a little Porn Video I guess. Apparently, Michael not too shocked not to have cashed the checks though, right Jane.
VELEZ-Mitchell: Right, I mean, he`s shocked, shocked, shocked, like he doesn`t have dozens of people to look into people`s backgrounds before he hires them anyway. He found out about this in 2001 and supposedly had Mark Shafl fired. But, guess what? In 2003, as we well know, he was working with Mark Shafl, so he wasn`t so upset that he didn`t rehire him when he wanted to do that rebuttal documentary on fox called , "Michael Jackson, the Footage You Were Never Meant to See. "
HAMMER: Nice going there. All right, real quickly, I want to get to this other lawsuit. Yet another one, this time around, Jackson`s ex-wife, Debbie Rowe suing for $50,000 so she can pursue child custody case against Jackson. Now, hold on a second here, because five years ago she waived all access rights to the kids, Prince Michael and Paris, so she`s asking for money so she can take the kids away from him.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: It`s completely wild. This is "Alice in Wonderland" when you`re dealing with Michael Jackson. But the bottom line here, a lot of people say, is money. Michael Jackson had agreed at the time of the divorce to give her $900,000 a year and he stopped doing that reportedly in the fall of 2004. That`s when things got really ugly. So now, she is fighting for custody of the two children she had for him. And we`ll have to see where it goes, but these are just some of the reasons why Michael Jackson is calling Bahrain home.
HAMMER: And the weirdness continues, Jane. Investigative journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell thanks for joining us from LA tonight.

HAMMER: Well, we have some sad news to report tonight, unfortunately. He was one of TV`s first stars. Now, Hollywood is mourning the death of comedian Red Buttons. Red Buttons, born Aaron Chwatt, got the stage name "Red" partly because of his flaming red hair. He rose to fame as a burlesque comedian and was able to impress CBS executives enough to launch "The Red Buttons Show" without a single sponsor. Of course, within a month, the show was a big hit. Comedy was his staple, but drama is what earned him one of Hollywood`s greatest honors. He won the 1957 Oscar as supporting actor in "Sayonara." Red Buttons died today at his home in Los Angeles. He was 87.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Thursday night. We are TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. Time now for a story that just made us say "that`s ridiculous!" We all know real estate prices are high in a lot of cities around the country, but this one`s a little out of control. You can own this home is Aspen $135 million. Yes, take a look at this. The Saudi Arabian prince who owns it is apparently selling it because he`s just not in town enough to enjoy the palatial estate. Now, this baby has 15 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms and an indoor swimming pool. And that`s just the main house. It even beats Donald Trump`s Florida estate as the most expensive listing ever for a house. $135 million for a house? We`ve got to say, "That`s ridiculous!"
Well, he says he`s sorry, yet there`s a big "but." The French soccer star whose foul may just well have cost his team the World Cup is speaking out. Why did he head butt his opponent? Here`s comes CNN`s Jeanne Moos for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

JEANNE MOOS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Sure, the World Cup was exciting. But it`s that head butt folks can`t get out of their head. The biggest but of all? But what did the Italian say to provoke it? "Dirt terrorist" was just one of the lines supposedly uttered by the Italian who got butted. Lip readers recruited by the media tried to read the Italian`s lips, but now Zinedine Zidane`s very own lips have told French TV that his opponent "said many harsh words and repeated them many times...very personal words directed at my mother and my sister."
Zidane said, "I would have preferred a punch in the face rather than hear that." Instead, he`s become a punch line.
JAY LENO, TV HOST: That`s the closest anyone in French uniform has come to combat in 60 years.
DAVID LETTERMAN, TV HOST: It was so hot today, French soccer star Zinedine Zidane head butted Al Roker.
MOOS: Lampooned in cartoons, "Bend it like Beckham, Butt it Like Zidane," the Zidane swan song has become an actually song, a French sensation. "Coup deboule" means, what else, head butt, for which Zidane finally said sorry. Sort of: "I apologize to all the children who were watching, but I can`t say I am proud of this action, but at the same time I don`t regret it, because if I regretted it, it would mean giving reason to all these words this person said to me. And I can`t accept that."
MOOS: Of course, the head butt has become the butt of jokes on the internet. How many of your opponents can you mow down? The head butt has been multiplying. Internet pranksters have given it alternate outcomes. The head butt is being imitated and set to music.
At this rate we will never kiss the World Cup goodbye, as if we`ve lost our heart to the head butt.

HAMMER: That was CNN`S Jeanne Moos for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Joining me now from Hollywood is funnyman Jay Mohr. He`s back on the big screen in the new Edward Burns movie "the Groomsmen," which will be in theaters tomorrow. Jay, it`s nice to see you there. What do you think, are we into a whole head-butting trend?
JAY MOHR, ACTOR: I just head-butted your whole crew, it`s just me and the cameraman now. I just came down the hallway, head-butting everyone.
HAMMER: I`m certain they deserved it too.
MOHR: Oh yeah, they are very lippy.
HAMMER: So I have to ask you, Jay, I think when actors work on sets together, the public, the movie going public imagines everybody becomes best friends and you stay friends for the longest time. Of course, you did Jerry McGuire with Tom Cruise ten years ago already, is when that was in theaters. Have you stayed in touch with Mr. Cruise.
MOHR: Tom is actually in my car right now, he`s waiting for me.
HAMMER: He`s waiting so you can come back and head-butt him.
MOHR: That`s him, just tell him to pull it around, I will be right there.
On "The Groomsmen" we were al friends. Donald Logan and I were in Jerry McGuire together, and Matthew Lillard and I had a torrid affair that summer when we filmed "The Groomsmen" in June. I mean, June in New York, how do you not fall in love with a Matthew Lillard?
HAMMER: I guess you`re right?
MOHR: We are all friendly and friends forever. This movie was like a big bonding thing for us.
HAMMER: I want to get to that in a second. I have to go back to Mr. Cruise, particularly if he is in fact waiting in your car, because everybody has been buzzing around wondering where in the heck is their baby, Suri cruise? Have you seen baby Suri?
MOHR: No. That`s not my business.
HAMMER: It`s not your business?
MOHR: I don`t know that it`s any of our business.
HAMMER: OK, well give me your take on it, because so much is being made of it. Do you think it`s a little too much and maybe even Tom is probably laughing at all this and they are just trying to protect the privacy of their kids?
MOHR: I don`t know, but I would ask anybody to imagine if they had a baby and the demand to see that child was so high, like how awful that would be. If somebody wanted to see my child that much, I`d go a little crazy. But, you know, it`s Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, they probably have 75,000 acres of tunnels and things. The kid`s probably been out working at Starbucks the last two years and we just don`t recognize it. They`ve got tunnel networks. It`s the Underground Railroad over there. They can come and go as they please. They`re billionaires. HAMMER: When you`re the Cruise-Holmes family, I guess you can. Alright, let`s move on to "The Groomsmen." You and Edward Burns, he also directed the film. Ed`s character, getting married, he`s little scared about that whole thing. You yourself have wedding plans, I understand you`re engaged to actress Nicky Cox, who we know from "Las Vegas." Can you identify with the nervousness that his character went through in the film?
ED BURNS: No. Because he`s marrying Britney Murphy and I`m marrying Nicky Cox. There`s a big difference. I went through the nerves in my first marriage. Now this is sort of like the greatest thing that`s ever happened to me.
Bruce Springsteen has a great lyric. He says "god have mercy on the man who doubts what he`s sure of." In my entire first marriage, in the back of my mind maybe I wasn`t so sure. Now I`m incredibly blessed to be with the lovely Ms. Avery Cox.
HAMMER: So that just feels right, and it`s not a lot of work when it feels that good, I`m sure.
MOHR: We are pretty much just doing it for show, for the press and paparazzi.
HAMMER: If you do decide to have kids, we can all talk about where are your kids.
MOHR: We are thinking of adopting puppies and chimps and taking them out to Disneyland, and having them wear those Michael Jackson veils.
HAMMER: You could be on to something.
MOHR: Yeah, and have people wonder why our child walks like a Simian.
HAMMER: Your character in "The Groomsmen" still lives at home with his dad. Did you have to go deep for that particular role.
MOHR: No, cousin Mike`s a big galute, as Bug`s Bunny would say. Can I say galute on CNN? A first for everything. It`s 33 1/3% me, 33 1/3% a guy I grew up with, and 33 1/3% Colin Quinn, is who I do cousin Mike. And in the movie, you can see that wheel of thirds rotating as you go through the film.
HAMMER: And, Jay, if it will make you feel any better, I`ll try to work galute into the show every night hereafter.
MOHR: You know, if you do, I`ll send you something.
HAMMER: I appreciate that. Jay Mohr. Thanks for joining us from Hollywood, tonight. Go back to your car so you can drive Tom Cruise home or he can drive you home. "The Groomsmen" will be in theaters tomorrow. I appreciate it, Jay.

Debbie Matenopoulos, who was the first co-host to get voted off "The View," is coming back into the hot seat, at least for one day. Matenopoulos was on the original "View" panel. She was later let go from the show when ABC didn`t renew her contract. Lisa Ling replaced her, then current co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck took over when Ling left. HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Thursday night. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I am A.J. Hammer in New York, and this is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.
Well still to come tonight, you know, we haven`t seen Jessica Simpson on the silver screen since "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie. We haven`t seen her on the silver screen since she officially became divorced.
Well, fear not. Don`t panic. Jessica Simpson is back. Her new movie is called "Employee of the Month." We`ve got your very first look coming up in just a bit.
Also, everybody knows pregnant people, or has known pregnant people who may not have felt so good about how they looked while they were pregnant, even though they probably looked ravishing. It`s just something that for some women comes along with the territory. Well they may not be so far off from how Britney Spears feels. We`re going to tell you exactly how she feels about being pregnant coming up in just a couple of moments.
But first tonight, celebrities and their multiple marriages. Did you ever notice that it seems Hollywood stars more often than regular folk take wedding vows only to break them? And it seems that it happens over and over and over again? Well, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT just had to find out why so many walk away so often from these star-studded walks down the aisle.

HAMMER (voice-over): Zsa Zsa Gabor holds the title at nine. Liz Taylor is a close second with eight. Birgit Nilsson and Billy Bob Thornton are tied at five. And Liza Minnelli has four, one less than her mom, Judy Garland.
It`s Hollywood and their multiple marriages. Their fame may stand the test of time, but their vows just don`t. But why?
SHOWBIZ TONIGHT went looking for answers.
KATE CAPERTON, OK! MAGAZINE: You are in a relationship, and if you are a celebrity, you`re traveling so much. And that`s got to be very, very hard to make any (ph) relationship if you`re constantly on the road, in the studio. Work is taking up so much of your time; you`re working 18 hours a day. It`s difficult to on top of that also work on your own relationship.
HAMMER: Christie Brinkley has been married on and off for about 30 years, but to four different men. She recently split from her latest, architect Peter Cook. Her most famous walk down the aisle was to numero 3, Billy Joel.
Jennifer Lopez is guilty as charged of the wedding-bell blitz. JLo married waiter Ojani Noa back in 1997 and backup dancer Cris Judd in 2001. Both marriages lasted less than a year. After her engagement to Ben Affleck ended, she said "I do" to Marc Anthony just six months later.
So SHOWBIZ TONIGHT wonders: with all the media attention on celebrity hookups and breakups, why would Hollywood heavyweights jump in and out of wedlock so frequently?
CAPERTON: Because they are celebrities they have big, you know, over- the-top, exciting weddings. All the pictures come out and so people will say, if it`s been a few weddings, they think, Wow, it`s must be the perfect marriage to go along with that. They must be the dream - they have a dream wedding. It has to be the dream marriage. And you know that`s not always the case.
HAMMER: And there`s more, so pay attention. Nicholas Cage is currently wed to his third wife. His first was Patricia Arquette. Then came Lisa Marie Presley, who married Nick after being wed to Michael Jackson. Two marriages have followed for Lisa, for a grand total of four.
Got all that?
Donald Trump and Demi Moore are both on number three. Not far behind, Tom Cruise and Angelina Jolie, both married and divorced twice. Will their third time be a charm? Katie and Brad, are you listening?

Well, let`s ask clinical psychologist Judy Kuriansky, joining me here in New York.
It`s lovely to see you as always, Dr. Judy.
JUDY KURIANSKY, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: And (INAUDIBLE) that`s a nice thing to say, because that`s not what the stars when they`re ready to change their spouse.
HAMMER: Yes. Yes.
But it`s really interesting when you take a look at the perspective that we just gave, it does seem to happen much more.
KURIANSKY: Yes.
HAMMER: .with the stars than with regular people all the time.
Why is it?
KURIANSKY: Because marriage isn`t real. Life isn`t real and marriage isn`t real.
It`s very easy for a star to say, Oh, let`s get married. It`s cool. Look what happened with Britney. Let`s go get married when you`re drunk, when you`re having a good time, when you`re feeling your oats. And then reality sets in. Who is this person that I married? They have no sense of the same kind of reality as real people.
And think about it: a film is an hour and 40 minutes.
HAMMER: Yes.
KURIANSKY: .you know? So you have a deep relationship, and then it`s over. You left.
So in a certain way, I feel sorry for them. They`re conditioned to see that relationships are intense, and then you could split and you go off your own way. And then you fall for someone else, the next star that you`re matched with.
So I think that`s what`s different in real life.
HAMMER: Is it fair to say that ego plays into this a bit? Because some stars - I`m not going to say all - but some stars are known for being, shall we say, narcissistic. And they`re used to getting exactly what they want.
KURIANSKY: Well, that`s a huge part of it. Because the impulsiveness and the sense of selfishness - oh, you need to do this for me. Or I wanted you to buy a house, or this the car I want. Or, you know, I want to spend $5,000 on this earring - this set of earrings. And if you don`t like it, then what am I doing with you?
You`re dispensable. Relationships are dispensable. And that`s what`s sad about it for them. And they have to live with that and learn more about what`s a - what makes a real relationship. The commitment, going through the bad times and suffering through things that are not selfish. Not paying attention to just you - what do you want? Instead of just what I want.
HAMMER: And it also seems to me that one of the things that celebrities are exposed to a lot within the context of their glamorous lifestyle is a lot of opportunity, because they are, by nature of what they do, separated from their spouse for long periods of time when they`re working on different films. They`re in glamorous situations. I mean, you know, it`s very easy to point a finger at Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, working very closely together on the set of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith."
KURIANSKY: Well, absolutely. That`s exactly what happens. It`s - it`s sad.
But, you know, the same sort of things happen in real life, too. When you are really working intensively on a creative project that is very exciting, that creates --- all kinds of hormones and chemicals flow in your brain. And so both for Hollywood and for real people, there`s a danger that you`re working intensively and you`re having a great time working and it`s clicking, then you become erotically attracted to that person. So that can also happen in real life.
But, you know, people - real-life people don`t have a lot of money like stars do to get married and divorced and take care of a lot of kids. They can`t afford four wives that they`re taking care of.
HAMMER: Yes, but it seems that they - they have the money to spend on - on the legal needs of divorcing as - as well the money you have to pay, whether it`s in child support or alimony. But you all - you hear them all complaining about when - when they do.
But talking to them more - in addition to the working closely together, what other real, major, common links there are between why celebrities - celebrity couples divorce more often or get married and divorced more often than - than real life couples.
KURIANSKY: Well, there`s the impulsiveness, too. There`s a sense of, Well, this is the moment I`m living in and this is how I`m feeling.
So when you are an actress or an actor, you have strong emotions. You have to know how to get into those emotions and follow them through, and not really try to control them as much as we have to as real people. So if you have an intense emotion - you`re really pissing me off - and then, poof, they go off.
HAMMER: Yes.
KURIANSKY: And you`re in the wrong direction. Instead of learning how, you come back and say, Wait a second, this is a real person. And let`s work this out.
HAMMER: So it`s not just the celebs. However it is unusual to see non-celebs married and divorced seven, eight times.
KURIANSKY: Well, you know, there`s been some research about this, the multiple marriages. And most real people can only go through three.
HAMMER: Three, right. I`ve seen that as well.
KURIANSKY: Three for us real people, eight for celebrities.

Well, Britney Spears has been married more than once. She`s about to have her second kid. She even poses nude in an upcoming issue of "Harper`s Bazaar" magazine. But the pregnant pop star she hasn`t always felt beautiful while with child. In the article, Britney says during pregnancy - quote - "You don`t feel the most beautiful all the time." And while she felt empowered by carrying a kid, she was - quote - "unprepared and paranoid" while pregnant with Sean Preston. She says - quote - "It was weird for me at first because of who I am." Britney says, "Wherever you go, they expect you to look a certain way. I`m not supposed to be that big huge pregnant superstar." Britney also can`t wait to perform again, and she even might do something with her husband, Kevin Federline.

Time now for another story that just made us say "That`s Ridiculous!"
OK, skinny jeans certainly all the rage now. We know a lot of the lovely ladies right here on the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT staff loves to wear them. But companies now have a size 00 jean. That`s right. You heard me correctly. According to "The New York Daily News," stars like "Desperate Housewives"` Eva Longoria and Victoria Beckham, who is Posh Spice, wear the 00. Just can`t get clothes small enough to fit them, so they are rolling out those extra-small sizes for ladies like that. We bet other slim celebs are going to line right up.
But this blue-jeans tight squeeze gets us feeling, quite frankly, blue. And that`s why we say "That`s Ridiculous!"
Well, Jessica Simpson has always embraced her curves, and she really throws people for a curve in her new movie "Employee of the Month." Jessica plays a cashier at a Wal-Mart-like store. Naturally, the guys that work at that particular store want her. She only likes to date employees of the month, however, and that`s when things really begin to heat up.

HAMMER: (INAUDIBLE) "Employee of the Month" hits theaters on September 15.
I love this next story. You may not believe it. For the very first time in television history, a new sitcom that was rejected by the networks may now make the primetime schedule this fall. And it`s all thanks to the Internet.
Now the show is called "Nobody`s Watching." But it seems that plenty of people are, in fact, watching.
Joining me from Hollywood, the creator of "Nobody`s Watching," Bill Lawrence. And one of the show`s stars, Taran Killam.
Nice to see you guys.
And Bill, I would like to.
TARAN KILLAM, ACTOR "NOBODY`S WATCHING": Nice to see you , A.J.
HAMMER: I want to set the scene here, because it really is a fascinating story.
BILL LAWRENCE, CREATOR, "NOBODY`S WATCHING": Set it, A.J.
HAMMER: It is - it is not like you`re some unknown guys just kind of walking off the street with this sitcom. You`ve got a proven track record, big hit shows like "Spin City, " the Emmy-nominated "Scrubs." So you go and pitch this particular show, "Nobody`s Watching." The studio behind the pilot was NBC Universal. NBC didn`t think apparently it was right for them.
So you take it to the WB. At that point, if I understand the story correctly, it seemed to you that it was probably going to be getting on the WB`s schedule. And that`s not what happened, is it?
LAWRENCE: No. You know what? We were so convinced it was going to be on television - you know, they flew us out to New York for upfronts, which is the - you know, the - the big announcement of the schedules. I`m showing Taran - he`s one of the leads of the show. He made the mistake of telling his friends and family it was going to be on TV two years ago. So he`s still - you know, hiding from the embarrassment.
But - yes, you know, we were so passionate about the show and so convinced it was a success, we were already hiring writers and - and getting started. And then the WB - you know, they - they passed on it. And luckily, their network doesn`t exist anymore. So you see what it`s got them, you know?
HAMMER: You must have felt pretty good when that announcement came - came out.
LAWRENCE: I don`t like - we don`t want to laugh at somebody else`s misfortune. But, no (INAUDIBLE).
KILLAM: It`s not directly affected by not picking us up, but it`s a good portion.
HAMMER: Call it television karma, if you will.
So, OK. Let - let`s - moving - moving it along, everybody basically says, No thanks. And then somebody posts the pilot on the extraordinarily popular (INAUDIBLE) video Web site YouTube. Suddenly, hundreds of thousands of people are checking this thing out.
So Taran, weren`t you already out there looking for jobs. I got to imagine - I mean, this pilot was shot awhile ago.
KILLAM: Yes, I mean it actually took - it was such a great project, it took that long to get over it. And then, you know, here comes the ex- girlfriend of a show calling you back, saying, There`s attention. You know, but - I mean, I have worked, A.J. I am a professional actor. I do.
(LAUGHTER)
KILLAM: I do pay my bills with acting.
But - but yes. It - it - it - it was - it was heartbreaking that that project didn`t go just because I was so in love with it.
HAMMER: But the YouTube attention has been absolutely phenomenal, as I said. It really has given it this whole new life.
So all of a sudden, Bill, the networks are - are calling you again, and - and saying, Hey, maybe this isn`t such a bad thing after all?
LAWRENCE: Yes - you know, I mean - I`m hoping that it`s the first of many success stories like this, you know? That it`s - that there`s an outlet for people to - to get their shows to the masses. And I - you know, I think as an industry that we - we - we just start doing this in television.
But yes, I`m going literally straight from here over to NBC to - to find out if - if this show`s going to be on NBC after all this.
HAMMER: Right, because they basically have the first right whether or not they`re going to pick it up.
What - what are you feeling? Are you feeling pretty solid about the possibility with it?
LAWRENCE: I was - you know, I was going to say something very dramatic.
HAMMER: Yes, go ahead.
LAWRENCE: .and then make the president of NBC - mark my words: the show will be on television. Mark my words. The - or I`ll die trying.
(LAUGHTER)
LAWRENCE: My - my goal is to - is to be in that meeting after this and actually get the guy to watch the show, you know? And watch this show and see us talking about it. Because I don`t know how many dead pilots are out there, you know, doing press and doing talk shows. It`s a true testament to the power of the internet now.
KILLAM: Talking to A.J. Hammer.
HAMMER: Yes, well, I do what I can, Taran.
So - so Taran, what do you - what do you think about this? The fact that all of this interest has come, really, exclusively because of YouTube and because of the Internet, and - and the power that it holds?
KILLAM: Yes. I mean, it`s incredible. It`s - a new age has arrived, you know? And it`s great.
And all I can do, just with dealing with disappointment in the past of things that you want to go not going is - is just enjoy this. And - and just appreciate that people are watching it, and a good majority of it are enjoying it.
LAWRENCE: Regardless of what happens with us, I would imagine this is the first step among many. You`ll star to see TV shows being marketed, tested, everything on the Internet. And if nothing else, Taran and I will come back in five years and take great.
KILLAM: Exactly. You guys are of an Al Gore-Internet thing.
HAMMER: You guys got it all started.
KILLAM: We did that.
HAMMER: Bill Lawrence, Taran Killam, I really appreciate you joining me.

Well, a lot of people certainly like to watch the ESPYs. That is sports stars and celebs mixing it up for the 14th annual awards ceremony that takes place in Hollywood everywhere. It took place on Wednesday. They were given by the network ESPN, and they go to the best athletes happening.
ESPYs are usually pretty funny. This year certainly no exception. Seven-time Tour De France-winning cyclists Lance Armstrong was the host. And when he won for best male athlete, a rather boozy Will Ferrell jumped on stage to serenade him.

HAMMER: I`m thinking Will Ferrell may not be making Paris Hilton`s Christmas card list this year.

We also heard from Jordan in Colorado. Jordan likes them lean: "The least a multi-million-dollar-making celebrity can do is stay fit." So says Jordan.
