K-Fed`s Popularity Grows; Is Anna Nicole`s Baby Safe

Aired March 06, 2007 - 23:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

A.J. HAMMER, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: A big star punished for throwing a cell phone at someone and forced to clean up trash. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
BROOKE ANDERSON, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT ANCHOR: And the nastiest celebrity mother/daughter battles. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. TV`s most provocative news show starts right now.

HAMMER: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the unthinkable, Kevin Federline a hero? He`s been called a mooch, a leech. But with his wife, Britney Spears, a total mess, could it be K-Fed saving the day? And should he be the one to raise their kids?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KEVIN FEDERLINE, RAPPER: I`m thankful for what I have. If I have to go through that to be with the love of my life and have wonderful children, then so be it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s one-on-one with K-Fed and the controversial question, has everyone been way too hard on him?

Startling new details about Anna NIcole Smith`s baby right from the woman who`s taking care of her. Tonight, troubling new questions about whether Dannielynn is in danger after disturbing information is revealed about her weight, her sleeping habits. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the growing concern over little Dannielynn.

Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: Hi there everybody, I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. Tonight we`re turning up the heat with the nastiest mother/daughter feuds in Hollywood. And we`re also going to have the most outrageous, ridiculous celebrity interviews ever, yes, including one from Britney Spears.

HAMMER: And that is all coming up, but first Britney`s husband, Kevin Federline. I can hardly believe it myself, but tonight we here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT are actually asking the once unthinkable question, is K-Fed turning out to be the hero in this sordid Britney Spears meltdown rehab mess?

ANDERSON: You know, it`s hard to believe, A.J. I actually did the very last interview with K-Fed before Britney dumped him. And tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has to ask, has everyone been a little too hard on K-Fed?

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): Stop the K-Fed bashing. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has some shocking news. K-Fed, not so bad.

JO PIAZZA, "NEW YORK DAILY NEWS": I think we all reached this moment of shock where we`re like, wow, Britney is bad enough now to actually make Kevin Federline look like a good dad.

ANDERSON: Britney Spears` wild partying, impromptu buzzing and revolving door rehab has done what no one in their wildest dreams could have ever imagined, they`re making her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, look good.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A lot of people are rethinking Kevin Federline.

ANDERSON: Yes, we here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can`t believe it ourselves. While Britney Spears is in this Malibu rehab center, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that her ex-husband appears to have turned into an ace parent, at least by comparison.

MIKE FLEEMAN, "PEOPLE MAGAZINE": Britney still has legal custody but for all intents and purposes Kevin has the kid.

ANDERSON: "People Magazine`s" Mike Fleeman tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that Federline has been working with Britney`s mother, Lynn, to care for his young boys with Britney, Sean Preston and Jaden. Fleeman tells us about a special family trip K-Fed recently took to Vegas.

FLEEMAN: He brought his children, his mom, his brother, and they spent a very low key, very unKevin-like weekend in Las Vegas.

ANDERSON: Wait a minute, this guy used to be one of the hardest partiers in Vegas. Now he`s playing Mr. Mom in Sin City?

PIAZZA: We`ve never seen Kevin step up to the plate before.

ANDERSON: Kevin`s shocking transformation from partier to parent has SHOWBIZ TONIGHT asking an impossible question, were we as a nation, as a society, too hard on Kevin Federline?

FLEEMAN: He has exploded everybody`s preconceived notions of who he is.

ANDERSON: K-Fed was a punch line from the second he first hooked up with Britney during the height of her fame.

PIAZZA: All of a sudden she`s dating this nobody who was really kind of living in her shadow and leeching off of her, spending all of her money, not to mention his kind of sad career as a rapper.

ANDERSON: Oh, yes, his rap career. The less said about that, the better.

FLEEMAN: When you are a running punch line, there`s nowhere to go but up.

ANDERSON: And up he went. After Britney filed for divorce late last year, the newly crowned Fed-Ex cut back on his partying. He even flashed a sense of humor, spoofing himself in this well received Super Bowl ad.

Meanwhile Britney`s constant partying and reported battles with substance abuse landed her on the cover of tabloids. And "People Magazine`s" Fleeman tells us that`s when K-Fed got serious, taking care of the kids and giving some tough love to his ex.

FLEEMAN: He`s been very hard on her and he has threatened to seek full custody of those children if she doesn`t stay in rehab. In many ways, this is one reason why she has stayed in rehab.

ANDERSON: In this interview with SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, his last before his split from Britney, Federline told me he takes parenting seriously.

FEDERLINE: I`m just going to be as honest as I can with my children and really try to build their character to be as strong as ours is.

ANDERSON: K-Fed and Britney have some rough waters ahead. Their divorce is pending and each has filed for sole custody of their kids. Joe Piazza from the "New York Daily News" tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT K-Fed may have an ulterior motive for his model dad behavior.

PIAZZA: I think a lot of this is a calculated move on his part because he knows that he`s facing a custody battle in divorce court and he wants to make sure he gets a lucrative settlement.

ANDERSON: But the undeniable fact is that K-Fed is stepping up and caring for his kids. Sure, people are still making jokes about him.

PIAZZA: Maybe Kevin is actually Dannielynn`s father.

ANDERSON: We could only wish. But for now his post break-up behavior has earned him a break on cracks about his parenting skills. As for his rapping skills, hey, let`s take it one step at a time.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Yes, the music career thing, we`re not too sure about that one. But we are sure K-Fed has a lot to say about his kids. My very revealing exclusive interview. I go one-on-one with Kevin Federline at 41 past the hour. Now we want to hear from you. It`s the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day: Kevin Federline, is everyone too hard on him? Vote at CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT was the first to ask whether Anna Nicole Smith`s baby Dannielynn is in danger. Tonight there are startling new developments that are making us all wonder what`s really going on. Jarlene Gibson (ph), the woman who is helping to care for the baby has revealed to "People.com" that the six-month-old girl weighs somewhere between 10 and 12 pound. Gibson also says that Anna Nicole`s baby is sleeping between 14 and 16 hours each day. She also says that Dannielynn is still on baby formula.

Joining us tonight from Hollywood, Dr. David Baron. He is a family physician with primary caring in Malibu. He`s also the chief of staff at Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center. Also tonight, with us from Court TV studios in New York City, host of Court TV`s "Hollywood Heat," Ashleigh Banfield. Good to have you both with us.

ASHLEIGH BANFIELD, COURT TV ANCHOR: Hi A.J.

Dr. Barren, Dannielynn weighed in at six pounds nine ounces when she was born. That was six months ago. Now we`re hearing she`s weighing between 10 and 12 pounds. It seems a little low to me. Should we be concerned?

DR. DAVID BARON, PRIMARYCARING.COM: It`s very low. A baby that`s six months old is more likely to way somewhere between 16 and 19 pounds. 12 pounds would put her at less than one percent of kids are going to be that weight at six months. If she`s really 10 pounds, then she`s severely underweight.

HAMMER: OK, so we should be concerned about that. And the other thing that was really startling, another detail that has come out is the fact that baby Dannielynn is sleeping somewhere between 14 and 16 hours every day. That seems to me to be very abnormal. Is it?

BARON: That`s also pretty excessive and it actually dovetails with the idea of whether the baby is underweight, because if a baby is sleeping that much and not getting up to feed, to eat, then she may not be getting enough calories in to grow.

HAMMER: So we`re hearing all these new details, Ashleigh, about the weight and about the sleep. Are these the kind of things that could be or really should be triggering some kind of investigation into what`s happening with her?

BANFIELD: Well, we know this, that there is a Bohemian guardian that`s been appointed by the courts there. And the attorney for the developer who owns that home, who is fighting to get that home back, has said to Court TV that that guardian has paid a visit to that home and seen that baby at least one time, about a week ago. Let`s also not forget that last week`s hearings were closed door, which means we don`t know what else has been ordered. We don`t know if additional visits have been ordered.

That could be coming down the pike any minute. They actually could have happened as well. But they do have something called the welfare test in the Bahamas and it`s the same as best interests of the child here. So they do find that important in the Bahamas. It`s just a matter of when. It`s all very secret there.

HAMMER: At least we can have the sense that if everything is running as it should be, somebody is looking after this child, making sure everything is OK. Of course, Dr. Baron, lots of speculation has been rampant about Anna Nicole`s drug use while she was pregnant with Dannielynn. Could the fact that she weighs so little and she sleeps so much be indicative of any baby effected by a mother using drugs while pregnant?

BARON: Absolutely. A baby that`s sleeping too much and not gaining weight may have a syndrome that`s referred to as failure to thrive. The baby is just not succeeding at growing and meeting what we call developmental milestones. It certainly raises the issue of whether or not this baby is healthy. And the thing I`d really like to know is whether or not this baby has had routine medical care during the first six months of life, the way most children in the United States have and the way the various pediatric associations and family practice associations recommend children should have.

HAMMER: So Ashleigh, keeping in mind that there are things going on that we don`t know about. But if you were Larry Birkhead, who`s fighting Howard K. Stern over custody of this child, it would seem to me all of this is great new information to have and fuel for your case.

BANFIELD: I think great and awful because if you`re really the daddy, it`s the last thing you want to hear. But if you really want to be the daddy, it`s the first thing you want to hear. It`s sort of a love/hate story.

HAMMER: Yes, and Larry Birkhead was very clear during those wild hearings about the fact that he was very concerned over Anna Nicole and trying to advise her, in terms of what she may or may not have been taking. Doctor, even if, as suspected, Anna Nicole was using drugs while pregnant, Dannielynn could turn out fine, right? I mean, obviously we should be concerned, but there is the possibility that she would be just fine in any event?

BARON: We should absolutely be concerned and much as I hate to say it, there are a lot of babies that are born to parents who have used drugs and even excessive alcohol during pregnancy that do turn out OK. But if I were this baby`s father, and the baby really is 10 pounds, 12 pounds, I would want that baby in to the doctor`s office right away and then seen on a weekly basis, to prove that the baby is gaining weight.

By the way, drinking formula at age six months isn`t necessarily an abnormal thing. Lots of baby`s still drink formula at age six months, but it may not be the only thing they eat.

HAMMER: Right, and that that was just another one of the revelations that came out at "People.com" from the woman taking care of baby Dannielynn. I appreciate you both giving us your insight on this tonight. Dr. David Baron, Ashleigh Banfield, thanks so much.

So Brooke, it is no secret that Anna Nicole and her mom, Virgie Arthur, did not get along. They were estranged for more than ten years.

ANDERSON: Yes, Anna made it clear she had a lot of contempt for her mom, bitter feelings there A.J.

HAMMER: That fuels what we get into coming up next. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT investigating what happens that pushes mothers and daughters apart. We`re talking about the nastiest celebrity mom/daughter feuds. You will not want to miss that. Plus this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Paula Abdul, this is not her first day in Show business. She knows to look at the camera. She`s looking over here and she`s moving. She can`t stay in frame. She`s hyper-kinetic. She was here and she was here.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: What were they thinking? The missteps, the meltdown. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the most embarrassing celebrity interviews ever.

HAMMER: And the amazing rescue of a dog who fell into an icy lake and it`s all obviously caught on tape. The startling SHOWBIZ TONIGHT video of the day, next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. Time now for the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT video of the day. You`re about to meet one very lucky day. A black lab named Pearl wandered out on to an icy lake near Denver and fell in.

The owner took a few steps out onto the ice, but quickly back pedaled after it started cracking. Pearl`s dramatic rescue all caught on tape. A firefighter swam out to Pearl and pulled her in. Luckily she was only in the water for a few minutes, so she didn`t suffer from hypothermia. That is one amazing doggie rescue and our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT video of the day.

HAMMER: Now SHOWBIZ TONIGHT plays family feud. Tonight, only we can bring you the biggest, the nastiest mother/daughter feuds Hollywood has ever seen. Right up there, of course, Anna Nicole Smith, who was estranged from her mother, Virgie Arthur, for over a decade before Anna Nicole`s death.

Now Virgie blamed it on Anna taking drugs. Anna had a completely different take. In a very powerful video that was played in court, Anna Nicole slammed her mother. Take a look at this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ANNA NICOLE SMITH, MODEL/ACTRESS: What has she done to me? You want to hear my child life? You want to hear all the things she did to me? What my father did to me or my brother did to me or my sister? All the beatings, whippings and the rape? That`s my mother. That`s my mom.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: There is a woman who apparently did not like her mother. Anna Nicole of course not the only star to have a nasty relationship with her mom. With me tonight in New York clinical psychologist and relationship expert Dr. Judy Kuriansky. Good to see you, Dr. Judy. So they were estranged, Virgie Arthur and Anna Nicole Smith, for over ten years, something like a dozen years. The mother/daughter bond and relationship is very important on so many different levels. But even if they had worked things out, even if they were close at the end of their relationship, do you think that Anna Nicole`s mom could have saved Anna Nicole Smith?

DR. JUDY KURIANSKY, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: Well, I think we see as with Britney that moms can`t always save their daughters. But having a good relationship with your mother certainly can help. It would have possibly helped her to get into rehab, to not have the addictions that she had to drugs, even while she was pregnant, most likely, as we think with Dannielynn. And her sex addiction. So when Anna Nicole says that she was abused by her mom and that her mom didn`t stop all of this, I believe her.

I think that there`s a reason that she is -- that Anna Nicole was so dysfunctional and part of it has to do with her mother, who should have been there these last ten years no matter what? She shows up when the money shows up.

HAMMER: Yes, and that`s too bad that it had to end the way it did, obviously. Let`s move on to another big feud, because, as I said, it`s not just her Anna Nicole. Jennifer Aniston and her mom, Nancy. Now, their falling-out basically started -- Jen stopped talking to mom when mom wrote a tell-all book about their relationship and about their daughter. It was called, quote, "From Mother and Daughter to Friend." Is this really the ultimate betrayal of a daughter by a mother, when the mom is cashing in on the relationship, or cashing in on their daughter`s life?

KURIANSKY: There`s another mom trying to cash in on her life. Actually the problems that Jennifer Aniston had with her mother went before that book when she was a child. Jennifer`s mother says Jen used to tell her, your eyes are too close to together, you`re ugly. I mean, that is the worst thing that a mother --

HAMMER: That`s supportive.

KURIANSKY: It`s horrendous. That destroys a girl`s self esteem, especially since Jennifer was struggling, and she didn`t think she was pretty, obviously. She was a waitress until she finally made it. and this erodes the girl`s self esteem. So she had a reason to despise her mom. Then it was reported that her mom had this kind of personality that really tries to merge, was trying to take her over.

So Jennifer was wise in trying to keep a little separation to define herself and her own identity, because the mother wanted to suck the life out of her. She was on the set. She was trying to take over her daughter`s life, to make her feel good. That merging is not healthy for any mom and any daughter.

HAMMER: Well fortunately, despite all of that and how awful that sounded, it sounds like maybe they are trying to work on things, because over the last seven years they`ve been talking a little bit and trying to work it out. I imagine lots of people can relate to that and can learn a lesson from that.

KURIANSKY: Yes, and it`s very healthy for the daughter to ultimately realize, even if my mother was dysfunctional, I don`t have to be like her. I can see her as a separate person. I don`t have to like her, but I can still have some relationship with her. It`s very important, especially important when she`s going to have a baby, when the girl`s going to become a mother. Because the mother always says, wait until you become a mother, you`ll know what it feels like.

HAMMER: Let`s talk about that because Tori and Candy Spelling, you know, here`s a relationship that fell apart after Tori`s first wedding, apparently mom wasn`t happy with that. And then, of course, Tori only got a small piece of her dad`s fortune when he died. Very quickly, now that she`s pregnant, could that change everything?

KURIANSKY: That will, because it always changes. When you become a mom, you understand a little bit more about mothering. You become a little bit more compassionate to some of the difficulties. I think in Tori`s case it`s good thing she`s having a boy, because she had a better relationship, even though her father cut her out, for a long time they were close. So the sex of the child often makes a difference in how you feel about your mother.

HAMMER: Clinical psychologist Dr. Judy Kuriansky, thank you as always for being with us tonight.

ANDERSON: A.J., remember Boy George cleaning up the New York streets last summer?

HAMMER: Yes, he wasn`t all that happy about the fashion and it was all caught on tape.

ANDERSON: Yes, he had to wear the orange vest and everything. Well SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has learned that another big star is being punished and is going to do some serious sweeping of her own. That`s next.

HAMMER: And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is right there down in the Bahamas trying to chase down that very first glimpse of Anna Nicole Smith`s baby. You ain`t seen nothing like this. We`ve always got this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

FEDERLINE: Behind closed doors, everything is, you know, great. It`s not always what they say it is, you know. I mean, we -- we`re people too.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: And Kevin Federline a hero? He`s been called a mooch, a leech. But with his wife Britney Spears a total mess, could K-Fed save the day? I go one-on-one with Kevin Federline coming up. He tells me he`s serious about raising his children the right way.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Get ready for a supermodel sweep. Naomi, I have some serious anger issues, Campbell is going to be mopping up floors at a New York City Sanitation Department warehouse, beginning on March 19th. This is all part of her five days of community service for pleading guilty to hitting her maid in the head with a cell phone because she couldn`t find a pair of jeans. Naomi of course claims it was an accident. Naomi seriously needs to chill out because the maid needed some stitches.

Naomi does have a history of smacking her staff. She`s not really going to like that trash uniform, cat walk couture. That`s not what this is. While she`s sweeping up, she supposedly is also going to have to wear a safety vest, gloves and boots. Campbell also has to take some anger management classes as well.

But she did get one wish. All of this is going to be taking place inside, so it may not be as much of a media frenzy and a media circus as when Boy George had to sweep up New York City`s streets last summer. That culture scrub was due to Boy George`s bogus report of a burglary of his apartment. Cops found cocaine when they showed up.

By the way, Naomi`s people told us today she`s ready to complete her community service, no matter where or what she`s assigned to. That, Brooke, is a good attitude finally.

ANDERSON: Good for Naomi. Do you remember when Britney Spears was America`s sweetheart? People just hated it when she married Kevin Federline.

HAMMER: Yes, he was disliked from the beginning.

ANDERSON: People had really strong feelings. Well talk about a 180 now. With the pantiless partying, the rehab, Kevin Federline has become the good guy. And I go one-on-one with him about their kids. We also have this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We arrived in the Bahamas one day after Anna Nicole Smith died. Our task was to find Dannielynn, her 5-month-old baby, who someday might be worth millions.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT in the Bahamas, trying to chase down that first glimpse of Anna Nicole Smith`s baby. The Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie baby frenzy got nothing on this.

ANDERSON: And what were they thinking? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the most embarrassing celebrity interviews ever.

(NEWS BREAK)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. And you are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

HAMMER: Brooke, a lot of rumors floating around about Britney Spears ever since she entered rehab. The most recent one that`s out there in a big way: did she try to kill herself, and - and perhaps shout all sorts of very strange things? The SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Truth Squad" gets to the bottom of that in just a moment.

And we`ll speak with a guy who is now looking like somewhat of a hero in the whole Britney Spears saga: Kevin Federline. Did I just say that out loud?

ANDERSON: You did. You did. Who would have thought it, you know?

HAMMER: Oh goodness.

ANDERSON: K-Fed coming up.

Also, A.J., straight ahead, a CNN reporter takes us behind the scenes on a chase to find Anna Nicole`s baby daughter Dannielynn, who`s basically been hidden in the Bahamas since her birth. It`s a real - really special look at covering this circus of a story.

HAMMER: Yes, what a frenzy, it is, Brooke.

ANDERSON: Absolutely.

And, you know, here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, we love our celebrities. But we just can`t help pointing out when some of their less-than-stellar interview moments create some of the most embarrassing pieces of television history.

That`s why we`ve compiled what we think are some of the best, most embarrassing celebrity interviews ever.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

DANNY DEVITO, ACTOR: (INAUDIBLE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): Whether it`s Danny DeVito`s nonsensical ramblings on "The View" ..

BRITNEY SPEARS, ENTERTAINER: (INAUDIBLE)

ANDERSON: ...or Britney Spears` emotional breakdown on "Dateline NBC," SHOWBIZ TONIGHT brings you the top five "Most Embarrassing Celebrity Interviews Ever." Sitdowns, throwdowns and meltdowns the stars probably wish had never happened, and have us asking: what the heck were they thinking?

HOWARD BRAGMAN, FIFTEEN MINUTES PUBLIC RELATIONS: They`re really not thinking, and that`s the problems.

TOM CRUISE, ACTOR: You don`t even - you`re glib. You don`t even know what Ritalin is.

TERESA STRASSER, TV GUIDE CHANNEL`S "TV WATERCOOLER": But then when he was so condescending to Matt Lauer, and when he insulted therapy -- of which I get and need a lot -- now you`re pissing me off.

CRUISE: And she doesn`t understand the history of psychiatry. She - she doesn`t understand in the same way that you don`t understand it, Matt.

ANDERSON: It`s mission impossible to forget Tom Cruise and his anti- psychiatry rant on the "Today" show, when Tom went off on host Matt Lauer about Brooke Shields` use of antidepressants for her postpartum depression. That put him in the top 5 of SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s "Most Embarrassing Interviews Ever."

BRAGMAN: I think Tom is an incredibly passionate man. Passionate about his belief in Scientology, passionate about his wife and his family. And I sometimes think the emotional element get in the way of his rational thinking about it.

ANDERSON: That interview pretty much made his Oprah-couch-jumping interview - we`ll call that one "5A" - look tame in comparison.

OPRAH WINFREY, TALK SHOW HOST: We`ve never seen you behave this way before.

CRUISE: I know.

WINFREY: Have you ever felt this way before?

(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)

WINFREY: You`re gone. You are gone.

STRASSER: Oprah kept telling him, `You are gone. You are gone.` You know who was gone? His publicist.

ANDERSON: Well, Tom Cruise may be gone, but he`s not alone.

SPEARS: You have to realize that we`re people. And that we need - we just need privacy, and we need our respect. And - and those are things that you have to have as a human.

ANDERSON: This "Dateline""interview, which took place with Britney`s handlers nowhere in sight, is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s fourth "Most Embarrassing Interview Ever."

STRASSER: The aesthetics were a mess. I mean, the look of her - it looked like, you know, she wasn`t a multimillionaire, but she was somebody who needed to rotate the tires on her house.

ANDERSON: Even ageless beauty Farrah Fawcett had to explain away her 1997 space-cadet moment on "The Late Show With David Letterman," which landed her on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s list as the No. 3 "Most Embarrassing Interview Ever."

BRAGMAN: Did you ever consider that maybe Farrah Fawcett is spacey?

DAVID LETTERMAN, TALK SHOW HOST: Now, a lot of people said to me, Well, what was the deal with Farrah Fawcett? Was she drunk? And I said, Oh, I - I don`t think so. You weren`t drunk, were you?

FARRAH FAWCETT, ACTRESS: No. You could have smelled it. That - that - that`s what I meant.

LETTERMAN: Yes, I know.

FAWCETT: You could have smelled it.

ANDERSON: Hmm. Smelled it, huh? Well, the question of whether or not Danny DeVito was drunk during his appearance on "The View" is one that the actor and his reps answer, `No way. He was just tired.`

DEVITO: I knew it was the last seven lemoncellos that was going to get me.

ANDERSON: It also got you, Danny, named as the No. 2 "Most Embarrassing Interview Ever."

STRASSER: I found Danny DeVito`s appearance refreshing because, you know, he was honest. He just said, I had some lemoncellos, and I`m hung over. Who has not gone to work a little hung over?

PAULA ABDUL, ENTERTAINER: Hey, you know what? It is what it is.

ANDERSON: Even some of the stars we may idolize can find themselves on the business end of an embarrassing and somewhat incomprehensible interview.

ABDUL: No animation. I`m helping cast four girls that are going to play the roles of these characters. And I get to play a role in it.

ANDERSON: Hey Paula, how about playing the role of SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s No. 1 "Most Embarrassing Interview Ever"?

STRASSER: But she was looking here - and, you know, Paula Abdul, this is not her first day in show business. She wanted to look at the camera - she was looking over here, and she`s moving. She can`t stay in frame. She`s hyperkinetic. She was here, and she was here. She was all over the place.

ABDUL: Listen: any publicity is good publicity.

BRAGMAN: No, that`s one of the biggest myths of our business. There is definitely bad publicity.

ABDUL: You got to learn to eat it up and - and embrace it, and say, `Seattle had the best delusional people.`

ANDERSON: All right, Paula - we won`t go that far.

And the way these celebrities keep finding themselves in interviews that are - hmm, less than flattering - it doesn`t look like it`s going to end anytime soon.

CRUISE: What do you mean by that?

ANDERSON: Well, what SHOWBIZ TONIGHT means, Tom, is this: if you guys keep thinking you can go out in front of millions of people making a.

(DONKEY BRAYING)

ANDERSON: ...out of yourselves, we`re probably going to be there to say.

STRASSER: Now that was the most embarrassing celebrity ever.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: Celebrity public-relations expert Howard Bragman, who you saw in the piece, says some celebrities` embarrassing moments like Danny DeVito`s are harmless and handled well, while some, like Tom Cruise`s, can actually hurt their careers.

HAMMER: It is time now to call in the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Truth Squad." This is where our crack team of celebrity investigators sets the record straight on Hollywood`s biggest mysteries.

Tonight, we are opening the case file on a ridiculous story that has been making the rounds in a big way on the Internet. It claimed that Britney Spears, who of course is in rehab right now, wrote "666" on her head, said she was the antichrist, and tried to kill herself. This story was in the weekly British tabloid "News of the World" - not exactly the most reliable source.

And we all thought that there was no way it could possibly be true. And how could they get this information from inside a rehab center in any event?

Still, the story got picked up by a whole bunch of blogs. It went viral, as they say. And we were right to be skeptical, as things turn out.

A spokesperson at Britney`s record label told the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Truth Squad," "Not true at all."

And while Britney is in rehab, Kevin Federline took the kids to Vegas, Brooke. No truth to the rumor that he gambled the kids away.

So perhaps he`s stepping it up.

ANDERSON: Well, Vegas Strip, really an interesting choice to take the kids, A.J. But it is amazing to watch now the interview I did with Kevin - the last interview before he and Britney broke up. And that is coming up.

Also this:

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I am Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

So with the Britney Spears in rehab, we`ve been doing some thinking about her ex, Kevin Federline. You know, everyone`s always giving him a hard time. But now that he`s helping to take care of their two kids, maybe we need to ease up on the guy.

Tonight, my one-on-one interview with Kevin. It was the last one he did before Britney left him late last year. Hearing him gush about his wife and kids got us thinking: maybe he`s not so bad after all.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

KEVIN FEDERLINE, ENTERTAINER: Behind closed doors, everything is - is, you know, is great. It`s not always what they say it is, you know? I mean, we - we`re people, too. We`re - we`re happy behind closed doors. We play with the kids and run around the house, you know? And - and we do stuff that normal people do.

The tabloids and the whole media thing is - is so crazy in Hollywood right now. It`s - it`s not just us. It`s everybody`s getting it, everybody`s going through it.

It`s a money market right now, is what it is.

ANDERSON: You seem to really take it in stride.

FEDERLINE: Of course, because I look at it as - as a business, and they`re using my personal life as their business, you know? So I have to look at it like that. I can`t - I can`t take it personal. I can`t - I can`t be too serious about it.

At the same time, it`s been, like, their favorite past time to make fun of, and poke at, you know, my situation and stuff like that.

ANDERSON: Does that anger you? Does it frustrate you?

FEDERLINE: It`s all right. It`s all right. It`s - it`s my life.

The thing - I`m thankful for - for what I have. So if I got to go through that to be with the love of my life, and - and have wonderful children, then so be it.

ANDERSON: You knew what you were signing up for, huh?

FEDERLINE: I don`t know. I mean, more of, like, watching how everything is getting caught up and - and put out there, and, you know, stuff of that nature, I didn`t really expect all that.

ANDERSON: For adults, sometimes it`s got to be incredibly difficult to face that harsh criticism.

Do you guys ever talk about how it might affect your kids?

FEDERLINE: Lately I`ve been thinking about it more and more, and - and, you know, I`m just going to be as honest as I can, and really try to - to help build their character to be as strong as ours is, you know? And I think by them being able to look up to us and us handling it the way that we are right now, is - is going to do - work wonders, for my children.

ANDERSON: And you and Britney didn`t grow up being spoiled. They`re the kids of famous celebrity parents.

How are you not going to spoil those little ones?

FEDERLINE: Well, I know I`m not, you know? I don`t know about her. I think it`s one of those things where daddy`s the disciplinarian, and mommy is - is giving you everything behind daddy`s back.

(LAUGHTER)

ANDERSON: So you`re going to work to keep them grounded?

FEDERLINE: Of course. Of course.

You know, I`ve made a couple of comments about fame, and my kids are going to be put in - in, you know, working at Taco Bell when they`re 16 so they know what a real job is like, and - and know what it`s like to - to really earn money. And, you know, it`s - it`s a lot of respect, it`s a lot of lessons in life that I - I want my children to go through, because I can`t - you know, I can`t give it all to them.

ANDERSON: Well, we all know that keeping our relationship together is hard enough, no matter what situation you`re in.

How much harder is it when you add fame, and when you add being in the spotlight 24/7?

FEDERLINE: It - it - it`s - it`s - it`s tough. You know, it`s tough. But at the same time, we know who we are. We know what we have, and we know what we have together. And that`s all that matters. Everything else is - is on the other side of the fence.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: I also asked Kevin if he had advice for other couples under the spotlight in Hollywood. And he told me he`d been trying to figure out what made a marriage work. And even though he had thought long and hard about it, he did not have an answer.

And we`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day." It is this: "Kevin Federline: Is everyone too hard on him?"

HAMMER: Tonight, chasing Anna Nicole`s baby. Ever since Anna Nicole died, we haven`t gotten a glimpse of Dannielynn. But it isn`t for lack of trying.

Dannielynn has been hidden from the sight in the Bahamas. CNN sent a reporter, Rusty Dornin, on a mission to find Dannielynn. And what Rusty actually found was a media frenzy unlike any other.

Here`s a special, behind-the-scenes look at what it`s been like covering this story.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

DORNIN: We arrived in the Bahamas one day after Anna Nicole Smith died. Our task was to find Dannielynn, her 5-month-old baby, who somebody might be worth millions.

But here we are in a country where they drive on the other side of the road. We`re in unfamiliar territory. So we hired our driver, Mark Bacian (ph), and the hunt was on to find the baby.

Do you know where the house is?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, I - I got some information.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Get Shorty (ph) back over here. Let`s talk to Shorty.

DORNIN: Yes, we need to talk to Shorty.

(CROSSTALK)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shorty, come on. You said you knew.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All right, Shorty.

DORNIN: All right, Shorty. All right, come on, you got to show us where now.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

DORNIN: Right there. (INAUDIBLE) right there. (INAUDIBLE)

From sources we developed on that ride, we found the house where the baby is. It became a media encampment overnight, with people staking it out 24 hours a day.

Have you ever seen the baby?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I have heard the baby over the intercom.

DORNIN: That was it, huh?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes, pretty much.

DORNIN: Is anyone there? Could we talk to you? You`re coming out to just see what`s going on at the house?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: (INAUDIBLE)

DORNIN: What`s that?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re here on a cruise, right? And we have a cab driver that`s bringing us, showing us around. And we said we want to ride by, see what Anna Nicole..

DORNIN: Did you - what`s that?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE)

DORNIN: You`re going to assume that your DNA is (INAUDIBLE), OK.

But why do you - why do you want to come out here?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (INAUDIBLE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Well, I mean, we`re traveling and there`s not a whole lot of sights to see in Nassau, and.

DORNIN: This is one of them now.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This is one of them, yes.

DORNIN: The story moved from "Where`s the baby?" to "Who will have custody of the baby?" And the issue came to the Bahamian courts and an international mob of media.

Here`s an example of the madness surrounding the courthouse for the guardianship hearing for Anna Nicole Smith`s baby daughter. And also, the hearing to see who really owns the house. You can get a look at the crowd; there`s a lot of people that are tourists here. They`ve just been hearing about it on the news and want to see what happens.

The media crunch is unlike anything, really, that I`ve - I`ve seen even during Michael Jackson and Scott Peterson. When Virgie Arthur left this afternoon, there was a crush of photographers, and tourists were jumping on top of the limousine. It was - it was just really something.

There have been a lot of people that approaching us for all sorts of things. Pictures - they`re showing us picture of Anna Nicole when she was pregnant. We`ve had somebody come up and claim that he was a tattoo artist for both Howard Stern and Anna Nicole. And we have this gentleman over here who is talking to our producer, Mike Falein (ph). Now he is from Germany, and he claims that he married Anna Nicole; he bought her the house that`s - this house that`s in question, and he paid $900,000 for it, and then he gave it to her. And he also says he`s the father of the baby.

But he doesn`t want to do an interview here and now with us. So things keep getting wackier, and another man claiming to be the father.

This is my last day in the Bahamas. There`s been precious little beach time on this story. I have never seen such an international media frenzy. The saga continues, and I have no doubt I`ll be back.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: The bounty on that first picture is huge, making the competition insane.

That was CNN`s Rusty Dornin for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

ANDERSON: Yesterday, we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day": "Anna Nicole Smith Saga: Does her baby belong with Howard K. Stern?"

Thirty-one percent of you say "yes"; 69 percent of you say "no."

And here are some of the e-mails we received:

Nicole from Mississippi writes, "I don`t think Dannielynn should be with Howard. He is an evil man. Just look at this eyes."

Mary from Maryland writes, "The baby should stay with Howard. He has always been there for Anna Nicole when others have always left."

Tony from Indiana says, "Howard should have the baby. Clearly, she went to great lengths to keep the baby away from Larry Birkhead."

We do appreciate your e-mail.

HAMMER: We certainly do.

And how would you like to have Scarlett Johansson as your nanny? Well, it would be kind of nice, wouldn`t it?
