HAMMER: Maybe there`s hope, Brooke.

But first tonight, what killed Anna Nicole Smith? On Monday, we will know for sure, when the coroner announces the results to the world. But already tonight, there is an explosive new report that reveals what might have happened. Was it an accident? Was it suicide? Or could it have been murder? Tonight SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the shocking scenarios that have everyone guessing, watching and waiting.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): What killed Anna Nicole Smith?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She`s not breathing and she`s not responsive. She`s actually Anna Nicole Smith.

HAMMER: Six weeks into the death of Anna Nicole Smith in her Florida hotel room and still so many questions. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking, was there foul play? Did Anna Nicole commit suicide? Or did she overdose? or Did a medical condition cause the former playmate to stop breathing?

ALEX HITCHEN, "NATIONAL ENQUIRER": In the hours of the 7th, some fatal mistake was made.

HAMMER: The official autopsy results will be released by the Broward County medical examiner on Monday. But today, shocking revelations, as "National Enquirer" and "Star Magazine" claim an overdose took Anna Nicole`s life.

HITCHEN: The "National Enquirer" has learned that at the time of Anna`s death she had a toxic level of the sleeping medication Chloral Hydrate in her body.

HAMMER: Chloral Hydrate in a healthy person makes you want to sleep. But the magazines say Anna was very sick when she took the sedative, which ultimately stopped her breathing. The "National Enquirer" and "Star Magazine" claim that Anna Nicole`s buttocks were injected with a substance from a unsterilized needle before she left for Florida. The dirty needle caused a major infection, perhaps explaining why she had a raging fever days before he died.

HITCHEN: When Anna Nicole arrived at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Florida, she was already in great pain from the abscess. This abscess grew larger. She refused to go to a hospital.

HAMMER: The Seminole Hard Rock is the South Florida hotel where Anna Nicole was staying when medics rushed there to try to save her life. "Star" and The "National Enquirer" claim there were no other painkillers or Methadone in her system when she died. That may surprise some, who are certain Anna Nicole`s growing drug habit may have killed her, a habit Howard K. Stern was aware of.

Stern`s rival for Anna Nicole`s Baby, Larry Birkhead, testified about it in court.

LARRY BIRKHEAD, EX-BOYFRIEND OF ANNA NICOLE SMITH: She was getting doctors, doctor A, Doctor B, doctor C, all together. At times, I took her medicine and I was told by Mr. Stern to give it back to her, because she needed it to live. I just told her over and over, don`t -- something is going to happen to you. Something is going to happen.

HAMMER: Birkhead isn`t the only one to bring up Anna Nicole`s heavy drug use in court.

HOWARD K. STERN, LAWYER FOR ANNA NICOLE SMITH: Is this a mushroom trip? I`m kidding.

HAMMER: It gets more disturbing each time you see this video that was played in court. Howard K. Stern filming a very pregnant Anna Nicole who was wearing clown makeup, looking and sounding completely out of it.

DR. CAROLINE LIEBERMAN, PSYCHIATRIST: I think Howard and the doctors that Anna Nicole was seeing were keeping her in a stupor.

HAMMER: Dr. Carol Lieberman is a Los Angeles based psychiatrist. She tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT she has proof Anna Nicole was taking a frightening mix of drugs before she died. A controversial memo, also on the website TMZ.com, showing a laundry list of drugs, allegedly prescribed to Anna just five days after the death of her son, Daniel.

LIEBERMAN: When you consider that she has a history of substance abuse, and when you consider that she had such psychological problems, these are particularly dangerous.

HAMMER: The confidential memo, written for Anna Nicole under one of her pseudonyms, M. Chase, suggest Anna be put on everything from Methadone to Lorazapam, an anti-anxiety drug. Dr. Lieberman tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, the fact that the Lorazapam was requested in liquid form raises an eyebrow.

LIEBERMAN: Since this is a medication that`s colorless and essentially tasteless, whether this was being given to her in her food, in her drink, without her knowledge.

HAMMER: Even Anna Nicole`s own son, Daniel, was worried. Before he died, he went to private investigator Jack Harding, saying he worried something might happen to his mom.

JACK HARDING, PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR: He told me that he was afraid of Stern and that he was acting like some kind of Svengali and that his mother was receiving some kind of mind-bending drug.

HAMMER: And mind bending is what this whole drama has become. And come Monday, we should at least know why Anna Nicole died.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER: Well, even when we find out what killed Anna Nicole, will it be putting an end to the mystery or is it just going to open a whole new set of possibilities? Joining me from New York tonight, investigative journalist Diane Diamond. From Hollywood, investigative journalist, Jane Velez-Mitchell, who is also the author of the soon-to-be released book, "Secrets Can Be Murder."

Diane and Jane, it is good to see you both tonight.

DIANE DIAMOND, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Hi, A.J.

HAMMER: None of these reports we`re talking about today are confirmed, but it does refocuses us on what has been talked about for weeks now, that basically Anna Nicole`s death really could have been prevented, unless, of course, it was murder. There`s going to be a lot of finger pointing after these results are announced on Monday. Who, Diane, do you think those fingers should be pointing at?

DIAMOND: Well, the only other grown-up in her life, because, for some reason or another, Anna Nicole had pushed everybody else away, was Howard K. Stern. I can`t believe I`m sitting here agreeing with Anna Nicole Smith`s mother. But the only one who was there when Daniel died, besides Anna, was Howard K. Stern, and then the only one around Anna as she got so sick and then ultimately died was Howard K. Stern. You know, I know that there was a nurse there and what not, but that person had to have been approved by, again, Howard K. Stern.

So, you know, I don`t expect that they`re going to come out and say that this is a murder investigation, but I do think, down the road, he may be in a bit of trouble.

HAMMER: He may not say it`s a murder investigation, when Dr. Joshua Perper, the medical examiner down there in Florida, announces his findings on Monday. But he has said that the findings will be surprising and may not be what people suspect. We certainly have been doing a lot of speculating as to what he is going to be announcing. Jane, what do you think he`s getting at here?

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, the only surprise would be if it were not drugs. We`re all expecting drugs, a toxic cocktail. We`ve heard about all of Anna Nicole Smith`s alleged drug use. The police say prescription drugs were in the room. So the big shocker would be if drugs were not involved.

Now I think that this new report from the "National Enquirer" about the dirty needle and the infection is fascinating. The question is, what was being injected into Anna Nicole with that dirty needle that caused the infection? Probably drugs. So, at the end of the day, whether it`s an infection, whether it`s her body just giving up, or whether it`s actually drugs, drugs are the underlying cause.

Addicts put their bodies through tremendous wear and tear and sometimes experts in recovery will tell you that addicts do die of other causes, but ultimately it all boils down to their drug abuse.

DIAMOND: And, you know, A.J., I think we need to remember that, again, the only other grown-up in her life at the time was Howard K. Stern, who is also her attorney. Now this is a man who, in effect, is an officer of the court. He is duty-bound to help people who are in trouble. And, you know, for him to stand back and say, if Larry Birkhead was telling the truth, give her back her drugs, she needs them to live, well, that`s a big pot of culpability in my book.

HAMMER: Yes, this is something that has baffled us all along. Here is a guy had who seems to have been enabling her to continue going on doing whatever she was doing, and perhaps enabling her to continue using all these drugs. And the reports today remind us that she was, in fact, very sick, running a high fever in the days before she died. She was bed- ridden. She wasn`t getting the proper care, clearly. And she was there in that hotel room in Florida.

Jane, doesn`t it just boggle your mind that nobody had called for help until it was too late? I`m having a hard time wrapping my head around that one.

MITCHELL: Well, what`s absolutely fascinating, A.J., is that Big Mo`s wife was her nurse.

HAMMER: Big Mo, I should point out, Jane, was her bodyguard, who was traveling with her.

MITCHELL: Right, TMZ is saying that the nurse, while she was sitting there at the computer, assuming that Anna Nicole Smith was napping, had never actually spoken with Anna Nicole that day, and then finally, at 1:30, realized, boy, this nap is going on a heck of a long time. Maybe something is wrong. And that`s when she tried to rouse her and couldn`t.

And that`s, of course, when the whole situation with 911, we later found out that she had died. She was passed out in that bed, and at some point she died. The question is, what are the circumstances surrounding that death? Who was there? Did somebody drug her up and then leave her to die when she was unable to take care of herself?

DIAMOND: And A.J., why was she even in Florida? If the "National Enquirer" and "The Star" are correct, and, you know, they`re correct a lot of the time, why did she even leave Bahamas to come to Florida, to look for a yacht?

HAMMER: Yes, when you`ve got to buy a boat, you`ve got to buy a boat, sometimes.

DIAMOND: Come on, maybe because Howard said, come on, we`re taking a trip. He wanted to get her out of the Bahamas for some reason. I don`t know. It`s pointless to speculate. I don`t think he`s out of the woods.

HAMMER: Well, hopefully we will be getting more answers than raising more questions come Monday. Diane Diamond, Jane Velez-Mitchell, thank you guys and have a great weekend.

Coming up at 31 minutes past the hour, the investigation into the mysterious death of Anna Nicole Smith`s son Daniel, and why Howard K. Stern, in that investigation, is going to be in the hot seat.

ANDERSON: And now we want to hear about you from this. It`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day: Anna Nicole Smith and her son, do you think there is a link between their deaths? Vote at CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGH. Send us an e-mail, SHOWBIZTONIGHT@CNN.com.

And don`t forget, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is the only entertainment news show that let`s you express your opinion on video. So to send us a video e- mail, just go to our website CNN.com/SHOWBIZTONIGHT.

HAMMER: Lots more Anna Nicole news tonight. Coming up next, Anna`s secret diaries. What on Earth is in them that made someone pay more than half a million dollars to own them? We`ve got the guy who sold Anna`s diaries joining us next.

ANDERSON: Also, can these marriages be saved? From Britney and Kevin to Reese and Ryan, we`re revealing how Hollywood`s shakiest couples can come back from the brink of divorce.

Also this --

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Angelina was once known as Hollywood`s ultimate wild child. She wore a vile of blood around her neck. And now she`s known as someone completely different. She`s the closest thing we have to Mother Theresa right now.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: The transformation of Angelina Jolie. How the heck did she go from being seen mostly as a weirdo to St. Angelina? And how did she do it so fast? That is coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. As we get into the weekend, I`m A.J. Hammer in New York. And it is time now for a story that just made us say, that`s ridiculous. OK, everybody knows about "American Idol," biggest show on the planet. Have you ever heard of "Inmate Idol?" Yes, sheriffs in Arizona have actually organized a singing contest for prisoners. Here now a sampling of the talent that has stepped up to the microphone for a little jail house rock.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

(SINGING)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Yes, dog, way to bring it. Get this, singer Alice Cooper has actually signed on to judge this competition. There`s even a rumor that basketball star Charles Barkley may be interested in sitting at the judge`s table as well. "American Idol" for inmates? Now that`s ridiculous.

ANDERSON: Now, the shocking, intimate details of Anna Nicole Smith`s life as she described them in her own words. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT first brought you what was in those diaries. And, tonight, we can tell you they have just sold for more than 500,000 dollars on eBay. That`s just unbelievable to me.

Well, with us tonight in Hollywood, the man in charge of sale, Thomas Riccio of Universal Rarities Auction House. Welcome, Thomas.

THOMAS RICCIO, AUCTIONED ANNA NICOLE DIARIES: Hi. How are you?

ANDERSON: Doing well. Now, who bought these things? That`s a heck of a lot of money, Thomas.

RICCIO: Actually, at first, you might think that, but, you know, it`s amazing, when it comes to tabloid type material, there`s been agencies that have paid as much as a million dollars for a photo. So, actually, we feel they`ve gotten quite a bargain at 500,000 dollars for two books.

ANDERSON: Really?

RICCIO: In fact, they`re going to promote all the material inside, and sell them, and broker it out and put -- they`ve informed us they`ll probably be putting the diaries back up on the block once they finish brokering all the information inside them.

ANDERSON: Now, I understand it was a German businessman who bought the diaries and he`s described as a big fan. But you`re saying he`s not going to just preserve them and keep them to himself? He wants to profit as well?

RICCIO: I think there was a story that said he was a big fun, but we didn`t -- We haven`t confirmed that he was a fan or wasn`t a fan. He is a business fan. They broker tabloid news stories all over the world. That`s basically what he`s doing for them. Once he`s done with that, in a couple of weeks, he`ll probably be selling the diaries again to collectors. Right now they have a strong tabloid value, right now.

ANDERSON: You say 500,000 is a bargain. I`m still astounded by that amount, Thomas. As we`ve reported, the diaries --

RICCIO: Well, when you figure that --

ANDERSON: Let me get to the diaries written in 1992 and 1994. And they were found in Anna Nicole`s trash, right? How did you get your hands on these? Please tell me you didn`t go through her trash.

RICCIO: No. We`re an auction house, UniversalRarities.com. As a matter of fact, eBay took her driver`s license and her ID off, and they`re going to be in our UniversalRarirites.com auction on March 30th, Anna Nicole`s driver`s license and I.D.. They were all obtained, along with these two diaries, a few weeks ago from a consignor that them from a memorabilia dealer after Anna Nicole discarded them years ago, after she was doing her show a few years ago.

They weren`t actually like picked through the garbage can or anything, but they were discarded by Anna Nicole.

ANDERSON: OK, well that`s a relief to hear, that someone wasn`t going through her private trash can. But, you know, the details, they`re out there now, Thomas. Some of the things she talks about in the diaries, her battle with her weight, her relationship with her late husband, J. Howard Marshall, if there was one thing, if there were one thing in the diaries that you found the most explosive, what would you say that is?

RICCIO: I just thought it was kind of -- the way she spells things is really funny. It`s a lot like her show. She tries to be sincere, but it`s kind of humorous and tragic at the same time. She mentions that she thinks she`s pregnant. She has a pregnancy scare. She don`t know who the father is. A lot of deja vu going on there.

Like I said, I think the buyer has a great deal with all the different soap opera material in here. It really shows the beginning of her career. And they got a really good deal. There`s probably about 20 different stories, at least, in these diaries that they can broker all over the world, stories about her mother, stories about, you know, she thought she had a weight problem, stories about her taking sleeping pills.

ANDERSON: What did she say about drugs? Because we`re going to find out the results of the autopsy on Monday. A lot of speculation revolving around her alleged drug use.

RICCIO: Again, this is the very beginning of her career. These diaries, by the way, they were sponsored by GoldenPalace.com, the auction. These diaries mention that she started taking a lot of sleeping pills and Xandrax (ph). It`s the very beginning. I think things progressed a lot worse later on, towards the end of her career. But she had boyfriends brining over pills for her. She had many boyfriends. She claimed in the diary she hated sex, but she had a lot of boyfriends.

ANDERSON: Some really unbelievable things in those diaries. And we appreciate you being here, Thomas Riccio, from Universal Rarities, to tell us all about it, thanks.

RICCIO: Thank you.

HAMMER: Well, Brooke, besides the diaries and the reports of what killed Anna Nicole, of course, another major bombshell in this case, the investigation into the death of her son Daniel. Coming up at 31 minutes past the hour, we`re going to be looking into that and why Howard K. Stern may be in the hot seat.

ANDERSON: Also, A.J., Regis Philbin calls into his TV show after heart surgery. And it seems like his pain medication is making him say some pretty wild stuff. You`re not going to want to miss that.

ANDERSON: Plus, is it possible? Can these marriages be saved? From Britney and Kevin to Reese and Ryan, we will be revealing how Hollywood`s shakiest couples can come back from the brink of divorce. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Friday night coming right back.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Regis Philbin is at home after his triple bypass heart surgery and he says he thinks the worst of it is over. Regis called into "Live With Regis and Kelly" this morning and he said he was a little unprepared for this first week of recuperating. He said he`s in some pain around his chest, back, and the leg where doctors took arteries for the bypass. And that gave Kelly Ripa an idea. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KELLY RIPA, "LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY: We miss you so much here. But tell us about the pain medication. Have they given you a lot? And can you save us some?

REGIS PHILBIN, "LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY": Kelly, I`m not kidding. I am not good at handling this pain medication.

RIPA: You`re not?

PHILBIN: I get up at night. I wander around the house. Joy said to me, what`s wrong with you? Every night, you`re up. You`re prowling. You can`t sleep. I try to take some sleeping pills. Last night I was yelling -- I`m a little embarrassed to tell you this, but I was yelling, I haven`t had sex in three and a half months.

God knows, it`s been for much longer than that, but anyway.

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS, "LIVE WITH REGIS AND KELLY": I think he took the wrong pill.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: That was Neil Patrick Harris, filling in for Regis. Doctors say Rege should be back to work in about five weeks.

HAMMER: That`s all good news. Regis` heart will go on, Brooke. Speaking of hearts going on, I am certain you are a fan of the movie "Titanic?"

ANDERSON: You know, I`m not afraid to admit. I love the movie, A.J., and that song, the song that so many people hate, does that make me cheesy?

HAMMER: I get weepy thinking about that, Brooke, but we do have some big news tonight with Kate Winslet and Leonardo Dicaprio, teaming up again. We`ll fill you in, coming up. Also this --

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: People may think that the wild child Angelina from before and the humanitarian family woman of now don`t make any sense, but actually, they do.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: The transformation of Angelina Jolie. It seems like only yesterday she was wearing a vial of blood around her neck. Now, presto change-o, she`s all about kids and refugees? We`ll take a look at her amazing image makeover, coming up.

ANDERSON: And the investigation into the mysterious death of Anna Nicole Smith`s son Daniel. Will it show a link between the two deaths? That is coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(NEWS BREAK)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT for Friday night. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood, and you are watching TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

HAMMER: Well, Brooke, you know, here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, we spend a lot of time talking about the Hollywood breakups. Sometimes we even joke around a little bit about how fast and furious they seem to happen.

But you know, deep down, we do really want them all to work. Truly.

ANDERSON: Of course we do.

HAMMER: Of course we do.

So tonight, saving Hollywood marriages. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT wonders, Can K-Fed and Britney, Reese and Ryan - can they possibly have a shot at getting back together? It`s our continuing special series about Hollywood relationships, "Making It Work." You will not want to miss it.

ANDERSON: And A.J. - A.J., Angelina Jolie is really making it work - speaking of that - with boyfriend Brad Pitt. You know, she just adopted another kid. But just how did Angelina Jolie go from Hollywood wild child to poster girl of mommyhood?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JILL DOBSON, EDITOR-AT-LARGE, "STAR" MAGAZINE: Angelina was once known as Hollywood`s ultimate wild child. She wore a vial of blood around her neck. And now she`s known as someone completely different. She`s the closest thing we have to Mother Teresa right now.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Coming up, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT investigates Angelina`s startling transformation.

But first, big new developments today in the Anna Nicole Smith case. Let`s get you caught up to speed.

On Monday, the Broward County, Florida, medical examiner, Dr. Joseph - Joshua Perper is scheduled to release his autopsy results. So we should finally find out what killed Anna Nicole.

Then on Tuesday, the official investigation into the death of Anna Nicole Smith`s son, Daniel, begins in the Bahamas. He died mysteriously just a few days after Anna Nicole`s daughter, Dannielynn, was born.

HAMMER: Well tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has obtained some of the absolutely fascinating details about what exactly is going to be happening in the Bahamian court next week during the inquest into Daniel`s death.

With me tonight in New York, Ashleigh Banfield, the host of Court TV`s "Hollywood Heat."

And joining us again from Hollywood, investigative journalist Jane Velez-Mitchell, who`s also the author of the soon-to-be-released book, "Secrets Can Be Murder."

All right, ladies. Let`s get right to it.

Now, Ashleigh, they - they`ve already determined Daniel died from this lethal combination of drugs. Can you explain - because we`ve been throwing this word inquest around a lot. Why the need for this formal investigation? What exactly is this about?

ASHLEIGH BANFIELD, HOST, COURT TV`s "HOLLYWOOD HEAT": It`s a little different there than it is here. We have grand jury`s charges and that sort of thing before we have trials.

But essentially this coroner`s inquest to answer the unanswered questions. We know the cause of death, like you said, it was the drug combinations. But the manner of the death is still unanswered. Was it suicide? Was it homicide? Was it something nefarious?

So that`s essentially why. And they`ll empanel seven jurors - average people like you and me - to answer and - and hear questions, and - and testimony. And they will make a recommendation to the attorney general as to what they feel after they`ve heard all of the evidence.

HAMMER: And we do know that some 40 witnesses are going to be called to testify in front of these jurors.

Howard K. Stern, Jane, is on this witness list. He`s got to appear, because he was in the hospital when Daniel died. And - and now that Anna Nicole is dead, he is the only surviving witness to what happened on that fateful day.

What can we expect that they`re going to be asking Howard K. Stern?

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, the big question, A.J., is how did Daniel get the methadone that was found in his system? We know that he has arrived from the United States and the Bahamas the night before, so he didn`t have time to go out in the streets and buy it on the streets of the Bahamas.

How did he get it? One witness - another witness - is, according to TMZ, scheduled to take the stand and say that Howard gave him the methadone, and then flushed the rest down the toilet. So we know Howard`s going to be grilled on that.

And let`s face it, Howard lived with Anna Nicole Smith, and Anna Nicole Smith is known to have taken methadone.

The other thing he`s going to be asked about is this private investigator who met with Daniel shortly before Daniel`s death, and Daniel, according to this investigator, told him he was worried about his mom, and that he had a conflict with Howard. He considered him to be a controlling Svengali who was isolating his mother.

I - I`m absolutely positive they`re going to grill him on that one as well.

HAMMER: Yes, and what can we expect him to say to that, as far as why - why Daniel was potentially sicking a private investigator on him? I don`t even want to speculate on that.

Ashleigh, we`re also hearing - now Howard K. Stern has to testify. If I understand correctly, and - and clear me up if I`m wrong, Larry Birkhead has been asked to testify. He doesn`t have to, but he likely will.

So first I want to understand that. And - and why would they want to hear from Birkhead? Is that more along as a character witness for Daniel?

BANFIELD: Well, it`s - it`s hard to say exactly. But here`s my supposition here, and that is that perhaps this is the best evidence yet of - of a crisscrossing of the investigation.

Our Michael Bryant here at Court TV has been dogged about going after that, and he has some sources that say without question these two investigations, Anna`s death and Daniel`s death, are crisscrossing extensively.

So Larry Birkhead has experience in both of their lives. And he goes back quite a ways. He knows their history; he knows their behaviors. He may be able to shed light on some patterns, et cetera, that sort of thing.

But also, I think, that what - what`s more important is that after Anna died, the witness list grew by about 10. So that should also give you an indication that they are making sure that they can get as many - it - cast the net as wide as possible with regard to both of the deaths.

HAMMER: And - and I`m right that Larry Birkhead is not mandated to appear?

BANFIELD: Correct, because he`s not - he`s not a resident of the Bahamas.

HAMMER: OK. And as you mentioned, Ashleigh, this inquest is going to include seven jurors. They`re going to come up with some kind of a verdict.

Now Jane, if - if the recommendation includes criminal charges, is it basically a foregone conclusion that the attorney general in the Bahamas will then in fact file criminal charges?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, technically, it`s up to his discretion. He looks at the recommendation and makes a decision whether or not to file charges.

But I think the big picture is, he`s probably going to do what that jury recommends. Because the government of the Bahamas knows that this has the potential to turn into a real public-relations disaster for that island nation if people of the United States start to accuse the government of a cover-up or sweeping things under the rug or a whitewash.

We saw what happened to the island nation of Aruba in the wake of high schooler Natalie Holloway`s disappearance, and her parents accusing the Aruban police of corruption and bungling the investigation, and then launching a boycott. The Bahamas does not want that to happen to them, and they`re going to do everything possible to make sure this is done by the book.

HAMMER: Hopefully, as I said earlier in the program, more answers than new questions come Monday, and then Tuesday, when this inquest is supposed to get under way into exactly how Daniel died and the circumstances surrounding his death. We do know how he died.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, Ashleigh Banfield, thank you both.

BANFIELD: OK.

HAMMER: We`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day." Here`s what we want to know tonight: "Anna Nicole Smith and Her Son: Do you think there is a link between their deaths?"

Keep voting by going to cnn.com/showbiztonight, or write to us at showbiztonight@cnn.com.

ANDERSON: Almost everyday we read about another startling Hollywood breakup, a nasty divorce. But tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT investigates if it`s actually possible for Hollywood couples who are about to break up to save their marriages.

Our special "Making It Work" series, next.

HAMMER: Well, Brooke, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet truly made it work in "Titanic." And tonight, I can tell you, they`re hooking up again. I`ll fill you in what that`s about, coming up.

Plus this:

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DR. JUDY KURIANSKY, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: People may think that the wild child Angelina from before, and the humanitarian, family woman of now don`t make any sense. But actually, they do.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: How in the world did Angelina Jolie go from wearing vials of blood to U.N. ambassador and mommy of four kids? Talk about a shocking change. That amazing story, next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

Now, a revealing look at Angelina Jolie`s shocking transformation. I mean, she`s a U.N. goodwill ambassador, mother of four. Is this really the same Angelina that just a few years ago was playing with knives and wearing vials of blood around her neck?

What gives? Is - is she for real?

Well tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, Jolie`s done some serious life juggling.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON (voice-over): It`s the picture of perfection. Angelina Jolie with the newest addition to her and Brad Pitt`s growing family: 3-year-old Vietnamese orphan Pax Thien. These pictures in "People" magazine are a far cry from her wild days just a few years ago.

And SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has been there every step of the way.

How did Angelina Jolie go from wild child to humanitarian and mother? A modern-day Mother Teresa?

KURIANSKY: People may think that the wild child Angelina from before and the humanitarian, family woman of now, don`t make any sense. But actually, they do.

ANDERSON: They do? Hmm.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT still can`t believe Angelina`s transformation. So we are going deep into the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT archives, back to the 1990s.

She came out of nowhere to win two Golden Globes. Jolie was on the fast track to becoming a big star with a juicy personal life to boot.

KURIANSKY: She was the typical wild child. She did everything in extreme off the charts. Hanging blood on her neck from Billy Bob, her boyfriend. Kissing her brother in a very erotic way.

ANDERSON: Oh, that kiss. Even though she won an Academy Award that year for "Girl, Interrupted," that kiss only added fuel to the girl-gone- wild fire.

DOBSON: She said she liked to do things with knives. She said she was bisexual. Lots of headlines.

KURIANSKY: When you`re young and you have a great deal of energy like Angelina did, you can express it in those wild, sexual, and drug and acting-out ways, and you don`t really have a purpose in life.

ANDERSON: But something happened. After shooting her starring role in "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider".

ANGELINA JOLIE, ACTRESS: You always (INAUDIBLE) to me.

ANDERSON: .she adopted her first son, Maddox, from a Cambodian orphanage.

DOBSON: When she was in Cambodia, she saw victims of violence there, saw what they were going through, learned about the U.N. program to help refugees, and thought, `This group is helping 20 million people, and I`ve never even heard of it.`

ANDERSON: So Jolie, with the help of the United Nations, set off on her first mission to the war-torn region of Sierra Leone - a visit she described years later to CNN`s Anderson Cooper as one that transformed her forever.

JOLIE: Suddenly you see these people who are really fighting something, who are really surviving, who have so much pain and loss and things that you have no idea.

ANDERSON: Her inner transformation came as her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton broke down. Jolie threw herself into her work with the U.N., and was honored for her work as a humanitarian.

JOLIE: I`m just so happy to be a part of the U.N., and a part of this family of people.

ANDERSON: Jolie continued her travels: Chad in 2004; Thailand, Lebanon - visiting refugee camps at every stop.

DOBSON: The fact that she`s been doing it behind the scenes for several years, before we all heard about it, really shows that she wasn`t just doing it for the spotlight.

ANDERSON: But the spotlight returned to Angelina`s personal life when Jolie began work on a new film, "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." There were whispers she and her co-star Brad Pitt had fallen in love, even though the two didn`t confirm the relationship for months.

JOLIE: Still alive, baby?

ANDERSON: As the media swirled around them, she adopted her daughter Zahara, an AIDS orphan from Ethiopia. It was this new Angelina that struck a chord with Pitt, who filed papers to jointly adopt Maddox and Zahara.

But it didn`t end there. Angelina turned the world`s attention towards the impoverished African nation of Namibia, where she gave birth to their daughter, Shiloh.

Now as a mom to a brood of children, her wild and crazy days are behind her.

KURIANSKY: When you mature, you find the right man, you find the right kind of a - of a goal in life, like helping other people, as she has. Then that energy gets transformed and used in another way.

Angelina has found her purpose in life.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

ANDERSON: No word on if or when Brad Pitt will file papers to formally adopt the new addition to the Pitt-Jolie clan, little Pax.

OK, yesterday we asked you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Question of the Day": "Angelina Jolie Adopts Again: Was it right to change the 3-year- old`s name?"

Forty-eight percent of you say "yes, it was right"; 52 percent of you say, "no, it wasn`t."

Some of the e-mails we received:

Tricia from Pennsylvania says, "It`s wonderful that Angelina changed her new son`s name. He can start a fresh, new life with a new name and language."

But Judy from Texas disagrees: "I don`t agree with Angelina changing his name. She could have just left his name alone."

HAMMER: Tonight, saving Hollywood marriages. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking, `Can some of the most broken marriages in Hollywood be saved?` And not only that, be saved in just one week?

From Kevin Federline and Britney Spears, to Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe`s pending divorces, could these couples on the brink get back together - maybe, just maybe, make it work.

Well, if anybody can make it happen, that would be Dr. Robi Ludwig. She`s a clinical psychologist and host of TLC`s "One Week To Save Your Marriage," whose new season will get under way on Monday.

Robi, it`s good to see you here in New York.

DR. ROBI LUDWIG, HOST, "ONE WEEK TO SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE": Thank you. Good to be here.

HAMMER: Let`s talk about making it work.

Let`s talk specifics, now. Kevin Federline and Britney Spears - now a little people would say there`s no way this could come together. Britney, of course, just out of her - her stint in rehab; Kevin Federline is - well, Kevin Federline.

What do you think? Is there anything even you, the great Dr. Robi Ludwig, could do to save their marriage in one week?

LUDWIG: I think so. I feel positive.

Because it seems like they have real, true emotions towards each other, which is a good sign. But as we know, love is not enough to make a marriage work.

But perhaps, through this crisis, they can recommit to their relationship and change their behaviors. Kevin would need to not party as much; Britney would really need to be able to express her needs and emotions in a way that he could hear it.

So I think they have a chance if they want it. You have to want it. And then they can call me.

HAMMER: And maybe they`re on the right side - right track already. Because she, obviously, probably learned a lot in the course of her rehab, as I`ve been hearing. And - and also, Kevin Federline, showing a softer side now, spending more time with the kids.

LUDWIG: And - and when you do have kids, you tend to think not only of yourself, but the impact your behavior has on your children and their lives. And that in and of itself can make a huge difference.

HAMMER: And - and they should call you, as you pointed out.

Let`s talk about Reese and Ryan, because they`ve been - they were married for nearly eight years. They`re separated now. The divorce isn`t final. But basically, it seems like this one not coming back together.

Is - is there hope or anything you can do?

LUDWIG: You know, I never want to say a situation is hopeless. However, Ryan seemed to have a really hard time with his wife`s successful career. And sometimes when you have two people in the same business - a very competitive business - it`s hard for some men to accept that their wives are more successful, especially when they really want it for themselves.

So I think that was a real, real problem for him. And unless he could come to terms with it, that in the acting business, success happens at different times, and to be OK with that, I don`t know that he would be able to be married to such a successful woman.

HAMMER: A lot of pressures when you`re both celebrities in a couple.

LUDWIG: Yes.

It works the other way around, oddly enough. But I think it`s still hard for men.

HAMMER: Well, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban may be sort of an example of that. You know, they were married not even for a year - four - four months in, and Keith Urban is in rehab.

I know substance abuse can drive couples apart. It happens all the time. Addiction is a tough thing to deal with. But these guys seemed really, really committed.

Is - is being that committed really the key when it comes down to it?

LUDWIG: They`re committed and mature. And also, they got - they were a little bit older when they got married. So I have the feeling that they have an understanding that marriage is not all fluff and happiness, that it`s not going to be all easy. And that they went into it with, like, a mature understanding.

Listen, people have issues. What you do is you work on it together, and hopefully, you come out the other end. So I actually like the way they`ve handled it. They`ve handled it privately. They seem to be committed to one another. And they were a little bit older when they got married. So it`s all right.

HAMMER: You know, we`re talking Hollywood couples here. But of course, these happen in everyday life.

"One Week To Save Your Marriage" is - is the name of your show. And you`ve seen a lot of breaking points just like these.

What - what do you think that first step - I mean, somebody`s watching right now; they`re probably having some trouble. What`s that first step that somebody needs to take?

LUDWIG: The first step is, `Oh my God, I can`t do this on my own. I need to do something different.`

So it`s the awareness that there`s a trouble spot, you need to try something different, and either you include a therapist or somebody you admire, so that you can shake things up a little bit. That`s what I do with these couples. I say, `You need to try something different.`

HAMMER: Yes.

LUDWIG: So it`s that wanting it, and having an idea of what you want your life to look like.

HAMMER: Yes, I know your show not just entertaining, but jam-packed with helpful and useful ideas.

LUDWIG: That`s right.

HAMMER: Dr. Robi Ludwig.

LUDWIG: You come out smarter.

HAMMER: .thanks so much.

And a - you can always catch Dr. Robi`s show yourself, "One Week To Save Your Marriage," when the new season makes its premiere Monday night on TLC.

ANDERSON: You know, A.J., Leo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet really made it work in "Titanic." You know, that movie pulled in more than $1 billion.

So hey, why not pair them up one more time, right? Next, Leo and Kate hook up again. And we`ve got the details. Stay with us.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Well, this story just makes me smiles. It looks like Jack and Rose`s hearts will go on.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are reuniting. They`re going to be starring in their first film since that massive 1997 smash "Titanic."

Now this is a movie about a not-so-great life in the suburbs, post- World War II. But I just need to know: will there be a Celine Dion song that I`m going to have to hear over and over and over again?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

(SINGING)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Oh, I love it.

OK, it`s time now to tell you what the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT staff is raving about this week. Here are the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Staff Picks":

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT producer Amy Shoman (ph) loved the song "She`s Like the Wind" by Lumidee featuring Tony Sunshine. Yes, it`s the remake of Patrick Swayze`s ditty from "Dirty Dancing." And Amy loves some "Dirty Dancing." I`m talking about the film, because we can`t actually speak to Amy`s real dancing. But we do know that she has the time of her life doing the Electric Slide at bar mitzvahs. Get it? Time of her life?

All right. Our executive producer Dave Levine (ph) is a big time Lilly Allen fan. The British singer`s album "Alright, Still" is filled with angst, revenge and life lessons with hooks that get stuck in your head that Dave says he just can`t shut off at night. Maybe that`s why the guy never sleeps.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT producer Mara Wilcox (ph) loves her some chick flicks. She is thrilled that "The Holiday" starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet is out on DVD. Mara says it has all the cheesy, feel-good, girl-gets-boy stuff that will have women running to the video store, and the men running to the sports bar.

The entire SHOWBIZ TONIGHT staff - we all love the new season of A&E`s "Intervention." It`s a weekly car-wreck TV reality check on the perils of addiction and in-your-face stories that show just how hard it is to kick drug habits.

And here comes the sun. Our resident clock-watcher, senior writer Rob Melstein (ph), loves that daylight-savings time (sic) came earlier and ends later this year. You know, even though it messed up his BlackBerry, he says it`s great to leave a long, hard day at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the sun still shining.

And now it`s time to end this week`s SHOWBIZ TONIGHT "Staff Picks," which you can find on our Web site, cnn.com/showbiztonight.

HAMMER: Here`s what`s coming up on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT this weekend:

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie counselors at a weight-loss and fitness camp for kids. Heh? We`ll fill you in on what`s up with that.

And Monday, a huge day in the shocking Anna Nicole Smith case. We`re right there in Florida as the ME releases his autopsy report to find out what killed Anna Nicole.

And that is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Have a great weekend. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.

ANDERSON: I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood.

"GLENN BECK" is next. Stay tuned for that.
