Glenn Beck

Al Sharpton Speaks Out Against Rap Artist Cam`Ron; Sheryl Crow Attacks Karl Rove

Aired April 23, 2007 - 19:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
GLENN BECK, HOST (voice-over): Tonight, a rap star shares his views on snitching.

CAMERON "CAM`RON" GILES, RAP ARTIST: If I knew the serial killer was going to do it to me, I wouldn`t call or tell anybody.

BECK: Who says rap stars don`t have ethics?

GILES: I`d probably move.

BECK: Also, could Al Gore be gearing up for another run at the White House? Guess there`s always room for one more.

And would you buy a book on parenting from this man?

ALEC BALDWIN, ACTOR: You are a rude, thoughtless little pig.

BECK: Yes. Alec Baldwin`s new book on fatherhood. Should be an interesting read.

All this and more, tonight.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: You know, I saw a disturbing piece on "60 Minutes" last night with Anderson Cooper, who will be with me on the radio tomorrow to talk about it. I don`t know if you saw it. It was an in-depth look at the hip- hop culture in America, and how rap stars refuse to report violent crimes to the police, because, as the saying goes -- one that I`ve never heard before -- "Snitches get stitches."

Here`s the point tonight: the rap music industry is enslaving our children. And here`s how I got there.

You know, I know that it`s an outrageous claim to make, but hear me out. If you didn`t see Anderson Cooper`s report on "60 Minutes" last night, here`s a little clip of an interview with Cameron.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: If your record label said to you, "Look, we`re not going to promote you, we`re not going to distribute you if you keep calling Curtis Jackson a snitch or you keep writing about guns and selling drugs," would you stop?

GILES: No record company in the world would say, "We`re not promoting you if you keep calling somebody a snitch." They know what makes money. A record company would never be that stupid, ever.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: There he said it: "They know what makes money." I don`t know about you, but that should send a chill up your spine. It did mine. Now, it may be harsh, but when a few privileged people -- white and black -- are making money off the backs of others -- white and black, by spreading the glorification of crime, sex and death throughout our community, that sounds like exploitation that borders on slavery to me.

The chains of drugs, and violence and ignorance are just as real as the ones forged in steel. And we`ve got to stop it.

Rappers and record executives are encouraging a culture where it`s all about money and fame. If you want to put the Virginia Tech tragedy into some sort of context, this is it. Money and fame. It`s everywhere in our culture. Here it is.

So Cam`Ron wouldn`t turn his fellow rappers into the police. That`s fine. Whatever. But what does his "code" tell him to do if he was living next to a serial killer?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

COOPER: If there`s a serial killer living next door to you, though, and you knew that person is, you know, killing people, would you be a snitch if you called police and told them?

GILES: If I knew the serial killer was living next door to me?

COOPER: Yes.

GILES: No, I wouldn`t -- I wouldn`t call and tell anybody on him, but I`d probably move. But I`m not going to call and be like, you know, "The serial killer is in 4E"

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Well, I`ll make sure not to invite him to join our Neighborhood Watch program any time soon.

You know, if you wouldn`t tell the police where a serial killer is in your neighborhood, we`ve gone insane. By acting this way, you are isolating yourself from the rest of American society.

When rap stars start to preach this message to our communities, they - - and the companies that promote them, and the parents that do nothing to stop this poison from entering their kids` system -- are enslaving an entire generation of kids to a life of poverty, crime and death.

The executives at the companies that release this garbage are modern day slave traders. You know, what Imus said, what Imus said is like Dr. Seuss compared to some of the poison that`s being poured out into our neighborhoods, right directly into our kids` ears, all across the nation.

So tonight, here`s what I know. We have the right in this country to say whatever we want. But as individuals, don`t we have the responsibility to not dump musical or verbal toxic waste into our society?

Everybody was talking about clean air yesterday. Well, all the freaks were talking about clean air and water yesterday for Earth Day. This is going to kill us way faster than any smog coming out of the back of your SUVs.

Here`s what I don`t know: where are the big protests? Where are the boycotts? Where is Al Sharpton? This is right in his wheelhouse, right? He was just on my program during Imus. He said, "Where were people when I was speaking out about rap?"

I told him, I would be there. When you`re making money off of misogynistic, racist and violent products, if you want to stand up, do it, Reverend Al. I`ll be there. Well, I know where Reverend Al is. He`s in our studio.

Welcome, Reverend Sharpton. How are you, sir?

REV. AL SHARPTON, CIVIL RIGHTS LEADER: I`m fine. And I`m glad to know you`ll be with us, because we certainly need you and everyone else.

You know, this is a real societal problem. Let me say something to you, Glenn. The people that suffer the most are people in the communities that have people feeling that to protect them and get equal protection under the law makes them wrong.

This is not some black culture; this is a thug culture. And thugs pray on those that are weak. We can not tolerate this, and we cannot let record company leaders, executives and bosses that don`t live in those communities make money increasing the danger in those communities.

BECK: You know what? Al, in those communities, they`re just slightly ahead of the rest of society. I mean, you go to -- you go to Harlem and what Jeffrey Canada was talking about on "60 Minutes", it`s a nightmare. But you know what? It`s in that community today, and tomorrow it will be fully fledged in my community.

SHARPTON: And let me tell you something. It`s also anti- the movements in those communities. Because if we`re telling people, for example, we want to have justice in cases, even police cases, to tell people you can`t talk, means you can`t ever fight for justice. You just accept whatever it is. This is the most blatant rollover concession of a slave mentality that one can imagine.

BECK: Thank you for saying that. You know, I got so much heat today. I said, this is akin to slavery. This will lead to slavery.

And everybody said, "You can`t say that in America."

And I said, "Really? I`ll say it to Al Sharpton today, and I`ll bet he`ll agree with me."

SHARPTON: It`s slave mentality to feel that you should not be able to protect yourself and your loved ones, that in fact, you cannot demand that you be treated like a full citizen.

BECK: But don`t you -- don`t you -- wait a minute. Don`t you believe that we are enslaving -- by embracing this culture, we are enslaving our children, white and black, I don`t care what color you are, enslaving our children to a life that is run by thugs, run by drug lords? You`re not in charge of your life at all.

SHARPTON: I think you are. I think a lot of it -- the only reason I think some of it resonates is because some of these kids have so little trust and regard for law enforcement. But I don`t think you succumb to that. I think you challenge it and overcome that.

And I think you`re right those that exploit it, the drug dealers and the purveyors of violence, they exploit this distrust to form some code to protect them. They`re not trying to protect the community.

And I think that the record owners. What I`d like to do -- one -- we already announced at the end of the National Action Network convention this weekend in mid-May we`re going to march on the record companies. And I want you to -- you told me you`d march with me.

BECK: You know what?

SHARPTON: I want you shoulder by shoulder. And I also want one day for us to take a camera. We ought to go out and let the world see where these record company execs live. They don`t live in these neighborhoods that have crime infested. They`re not teaching their kids to call people "hos" and "B`s." We need to show who these people are behind the artists that are making the money.

BECK: But you know what? You know what? I`m not going to -- we`re not going to stick it just to the record companies. I mean, geez, Al. This Cam`ron, I don`t know who he is. But he drives two Lamborghinis. The guy`s a multi-millionaire profiting off of this horror. He`s the same guy. No question. It`s not a race issue.

SHARPTON: All of these guys -- all of these guys, they need to be dealt with. But if he`s got two Lamborghinis, I bet you the owner of the record company has got two jets.

BECK: Yes, well...

SHARPTON: What I`m saying, there`s a lot of money in this. And I think that people need to understand, this is not a difference of opinion. These are people that are making money exploiting and destroying these kids.

BECK: Right. I think, Al, that where you and I split is the same thing we split on Imus. We both agree that Imus, what he did was reprehensible. I don`t think we drive people out of business. I think we appeal to people`s good natures and say, "Stop it." We appeal to people`s good natures and say, "Be a better parent than this. Get this garbage out." I`m more of the Cosby philosophy.

SHARPTON: I think -- I think that while you appeal to them, thought, you can also say, "I`m not going to support you financially."

What we did with Imus is say, "You can say what you want, but we`re going to tell advertisers you`re never going to spend our money to subsidize it." That`s what we`ve got to say to these record companies.

BECK: OK. Reverend Al Sharpton, thank you very much. We`ll talk to you again.

SHARPTON: Thank you, Glenn.

BECK: And you let me know when that is.

SHARPTON: I will be looking for you. All right.

BECK: Coming up, you got a square to spare? This is an ugly story. It`s singer Sheryl Crow`s plan to solve global warming. May leave you a couple squares short in the bathroom. Plus details from her scuffle with presidential adviser Karl Rove.

And the Taliban`s terror tactics get more shocking. They`re using a 12-year-old boy to behead a suspect spy for the U.S. It is shocking video, and what`s even more shocking is you`ll never see it.

Plus, Alec Baldwin plans a book for divorced dads. No. Really. It`s amazing. Coming up.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: How time flies. You know, it was another Earth Day over the weekend. Right? And I`m still decorating my tree. And you know what that means. It means that aging hippies and earnest college freshmen are donning their loose-fitting hemp clothing, firing up an Indigo Girls CDs, and feasting on tofu and celebration of Mother Earth.

Others, like Sheryl Crow and "Inconvenient Truth" producer Laurie David had trouble curbing their enthusiasm. Yes, I said it. I worked it in. They verbally attacked Republican strategist Karl Rove at the White House, the White House Correspondents Dinner.

You know, I understand everybody is, you know, all up in arms about global warming and the environmental debate, and tempers are running hot. People are passionate in their beliefs.

But here`s the thing: a new survey has shown that when it comes to green issues like energy and the environment, the average American is more likely to believe a myth rather than the basic facts. Like cutting down all the trees. We`re doing that, right? The forests are receding. You know what? The truth is, since 1985 we`re gaining forestland, not losing it.

And our cities are more polluted than ever, right? No, not so much. Our air is actually cleaner today than it was in 1970.

In short, what people think they know and what they -- what is actually true isn`t even close to the same thing.

Darrell Ankarlo, he`s a talk show host for KTAR-FM in Phoenix, Arizona. David Jenkins is a government affairs director for the Republicans for environmental protection. And Chris Horner is the author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism".

Darrell, first off, tell me what happened at the correspondents dinner this weekend.

DARRELL ANKARLO, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: How do you like that?

Laurie David comes out and she says dry-cleans her clothes. So she takes her clothing, puts it in a bag and takes it to the dry cleaners, as though that`s going to change the entire world.

What an unbelievable story, Glenn. I`m glad you brought me on to talk about it, because they`re turning it into politics. Period.

BECK: Well, first of all, I mean, the Correspondents Dinner. I don`t know if this is the Alec school -- the Alec Baldwin School of Ethics here, but I mean, the Correspondents Dinner is not the time to coral Karl Rove and grab him by the arm. He said they intentionally set out to insult him, and they did.

ANKARLO: There`s no question that that`s why they went to see him. Because they said that they wanted direct access. And again, in Hollywood if you`re a movie star or a singer or a producer/performer you apparently have all rights to coral the president and the president`s right-hand man if you want to.

I guess I have the same access. I guess that`s the way that it works, not.

BECK: So Chris, help me out. Because Sheryl Crow then came out, and I think this is insane. She came out and said, "Well, I think we should just use" -- and I`m not kidding, America -- "one square of toilet paper per sitting."

How exactly is that going to help us out, besides nobody will ever want to shake hands with anybody ever again?

CHRIS HORNER, AUTHOR, "THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT GUIDE TO GLOBAL WARMING AND ENVIRONMENTALISM": Back to the days of disease. Wonderful.

Yes, I`m happy to announce on this program that our very clever campaign is moving ahead of schedule to plant what appear to be the biggest collection of breathtakingly hypocritical and otherwise detached individuals on the other team to discredit their entire hysterical movement.

The bad news is I must regret for tonight`s celebratory dinner at Sheryl Crow`s house for reasons you can probably imagine. W

I mean, this is really -- we just have to sit back and watch. The more they say, the sillier they sound. And it`s always the noisiest, bossiest people who happen to, upon scrutiny, have bus caravans, six cars - - you`ve seen on TheSmokingGun today, maybe, her requirements for her tours. Al Gore`s jet set lifestyle.

This is, as always, about what other people must do. Because their energy use is legitimate, Glenn. Mine and yours is illegitimate.

BECK: Yes. David, you know, I heard somebody actually come out and say, ban all jets. Ban all private jets. I`m not a fan of this. You know, I say capitalism rules. And the reason why people use private jets, a lot of the reason is time is valuable to them, and time is money.

Sheryl Crow will tell you, you can guarantee you that these people are flying around on private jets. What do you think about a proposal that says, why don`t you just live to the standard that Bush has set at the Bush ranch, in Texas?

DAVID JENKINS, GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS DIRECTOR, REPUBLICANS: Well, I don`t know. I`m not going to sit and defend some of the crazy things that comes out of the mouth of liberals. But I think that the things you hear from some of these people just reinforces the idea that it should be conservatives that are leading on environmental protection issues and climate change.

And that doesn`t mean denying climate change. It just means leading and actually understanding the issue better and moving forward and not leaving it to the hands of people like Sheryl Crow to tell us how to do our business.

BECK: OK, hang on just a second. Panel, is everybody with him on saying that conservatives should jump on board on climate change? Is that what I just heard you say?

ANKARLO: Glenn -- Glenn, let me see if I can answer that for a second. I think we`re all supposed to be doing our part, every single one of us. What I find interesting, when you have the Al Gores, who by the way, is using this to gear up for an elections process in `08. You have the Sheryl Crows of the world, what they`re trying to do is say, "I get to live at this level and you have to take care of the rest of the world." I say, if we`re all going to play fair, let`s all jump on the same level at the same time, period.

HORNER: No, no, no. This isn`t about taking care of the rest of the world. This is about extending third world poverty. It is the masses who continue procreating in untoward numbers the poor world that they despise.

Remember, conservatives are taking the lead on climate change. We point out climate changes. It always has, it always will. For that, we`re called deniers.

Remember this. When Laurie David and what`s-her-name buttonholed Karl -- assaulted Karl Rove in the parlance, they point out something that`s not true and that is that the U.S. is doing less than anyone else in climate change. If promises that no one will ever keep matter, then Europe is the world leader. Just ask them.

But if actual emission, the rate of increase is important, the U.S. is leading the world. They don`t seem to care about data. It`s all about promises. What would make me feel good and in this case, most importantly, what makes me feel bad, which is why they get out of bed in the morning, the U.S. is the bad guy and man is the agent of doom.

BECK: It is really, truly amazing. I mean, even when you look at -- you know, I opened it up with the fact about deforestation, that you know, we`re cutting down trees left and right. We`re planting more trees. There are more trees now.

And Chris, you would probably know the hard facts on this. I know since 1985, but I believe there is more forestland now since, like, 1900.

HORNER: Let me tell you something.

BECK: Yes, go ahead.

HORNER: This is actually a bad thing. The greens are now railing against -- these are called monocultural trees which are exactly what you in today`s culture would expect. They`re trees that were planted. They were raised among only their own kind.

I`m not making this up. There`s a Rainforest Action Network and somebody else called for this to not be allowed in the Kyoto Protocol. You can`t get credit for planting trees because nature didn`t intend it this way and they`re actually a bad thing and by that, if you run the numbers, that means they`re a greater threat than the greatest threat that`s humankind.

BECK: Wow. Wait a minute.

HORNER: If you`re starting to think this is stupid, I`m way ahead of you.

BECK: What are they -- what are they calling this?

HORNER: Monocultural trees, which as I note in my book, are a grater threat that global warming, apparently.

BECK: I cannot take it.

Now Darrell said a second ago that Al Gore is running. Absolutely true. We`ll give you the details on that here, coming up in just a second.

I also want to remind you that we have our special next Wednesday, May 2. It`s an hour on this debate. It`s "Exposed: Climate of Fear". There is another story -- side to this story that is not being heard. Believe me, gather your family around. You do not want to miss our special, "The Climate of Fear".

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: You know, I told you on this program not long ago that Al Gore was going to run for the president of the United States. I didn`t know if it would be `08 or `12. But now it looks like -- there`s information coming out that, yes, indeed, that committee is being -- is being grounded now for a presidential race possibly in `08.

Returning with me now, talk show host Darrell Ankarlo, author Chris Horner and Republican environmentalist David Jenkins.

Darrell, do you agree he`s been planning this the whole time?

ANKARLO: Absolutely. By the way, Sheryl, out, out, out. Sheryl brought me a roll of toilet paper. I can only use one sheet. I want to be OK with that, Glenn.

BECK: Sheesh.

ANKARLO: Yes, there`s no doubt that he`s running for president. Think about this for a minute. You have low ratings. You don`t win the election, although some would like to argue that, depending on how you look at our Electoral College process.

So what you do is you have a guy who exalts himself up to messiah status so the government, and the country, says, "Wait a minute. This guy could be the answer," by creating these myths surrounding, you know, our global problem.

BECK: You know, Chris...

ANKARLO: Yes, I think he`s running.

BECK: ... I mean, your book out is "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming", and it`s just rife with stats on, you know, the facts on global warming. It`s pretty shocking.

Even defenders of global warming have said that Al Gore has, at best, spun the information or hyped the information. Others will say he`s just out-and-out lied about everything that`s going on with global warming.

How does a guy survive? Especially -- especially against Hillary Clinton? How does a guy survive with facts so grossly overstated in a presidential candidacy?

HORNER: In his movie, he both spun and he lied, and I point out both. Most everything of substance he said was, at bare minimum, deeply distorted.

The movie -- it may have resonated very riveting images of ice that grew too far and broke off. I repeat, grew too far and broke off. It`s called caving. That he wants you to believe it`s melting. These things -- this will be a liability with -- stripped of the very moving visuals, the movie itself and the claims will be a liability.

He wrote another book called "Earth in the Balance", and it was -- you know, it talked about a wrenching transformation of society. Now he wants you to believe that the World War II style commitment that he calls for means swapping out a couple of light bulbs, maybe running a pen down the back of your leg instead of wearing nylons.

You know, World War II had the internment camps, wood and food rationing, all sorts of bad things that he doesn`t want to get specific about. And over the course of a presidential campaign, he will have to.

BECK: David, and by the way, I want the viewers to know that we invited a ton of people on this program to present the other side. None of them wanted -- we were calling, "Hello, Greenpeace." Nobody wanted to be on the program. I guess, I don`t know, you`re afraid or what it is.

But we have David, who is a Republican. You are looking at this as saying, you know, we shouldn`t just give all these voters a way to, you know, the green movement.

However, we`ve got to base it in reality and fact. And I think everybody loves the planet. It`s our home, for the love of Pete.

But how do you want to adopt people into this on a movement that really has very few anchors in reality?

JENKINS: Well, I mean, Al Gore is an imperfect messenger on this. I mean, I`m no fan of Al Gore. But the fact of the matter is you`ve got to separate these individual personalities from the underlying issue.

And when we had environmental problems, you know, really severe ones in the early -- late `60s and early `70s, it was a bipartisan approach with the Clean Water Act, Clean Air Act. I mean, you talk about this article that talks about how the air is cleaner and less polluted. Well, it`s because of that bipartisan cooperation that occurred in the `70s.

BECK: David, Chris, Darrell, thank you. Back in a minute.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: All right, welcome to "The Real Story." This is where we try to cut through the media spin, but today I actually want to embrace it, because sometimes the media spin is the story.

I have told you over and over again, on this program, that until we get over our political correctness, until we can call evil by its name and admit to ourselves what we are really facing out there in world, we`re doomed. We will never survive.

Well, tonight, I`ve got two stories for you that will show you the media is just not being honest, at best. They`re not being honest, so I will.

First, Sunday "New York Times," this ran yesterday. There was a front page story headlined "50 Percent Good News is Bad News in Russian Radio." I want to read just a little bit of this for you, and you stop me when you think you hear the most important part, the part that should be the headline.

Here it is, "Dateline, Moscow. At their first meeting with journalists since taking over Russia`s largest independent radio news network, the managers had startling news of their own. From now on, they said, at least 50 percent of the reports about Russia must be positive. In addition, opposition leaders could not be mentioned on the air, and the United States was to be portrayed as an enemy."

Gosh, that sounds like the headline to me. It is just me? Maybe the "New York Times" can explain how that little nugget got one mention in the second paragraph of the article and then was never talked about again. Here`s the beginning of the article; here`s the rest of the article. I read this thing three times trying to find anything else out about Russia now calling us the enemy.

How is it? You know what? Maybe they can explain how referring to us as "the enemy" is not the headline or how it warrants just nine out of over 1,200 words. Now, I realize I`m not a newspaper editor for the "New York Times," but I am a thinker. Wouldn`t you want to press the reporter just a little bit more on that line? Wouldn`t you want to say, "Hey, Andrew, can you ask them, how we`re the enemy, why they made that decision, what does it mean to the Russian people and to our relationship?"

The real story is, this is just another of many examples of our media refusing to be honest with us, refusing to name our enemies or, in this case, to name those who name us as the enemy. We are either so pompous or so stupid that we actually believe it`s not a big deal when the biggest enemy of our country, the biggest enemy we have had in the last 70 years, has decided to start labeling us "enemy" again.

Of course, it`s not just the "New York Times" that`s guilty of this. I saw another story this weekend, and maybe it`s a worse example of this. And I believe the entire media is in on this one.

A video has surfaced from Pakistan in which a so-called American spy was beheaded by a boy who looks -- he`s got to be 12. The video is grotesque. It is gruesome, shocking. It is violent. But it`s important that you see it.

Since 9/11, we have become accustomed to learning about how savage our enemies are by reading reports in the paper or seeing a video of a suicide bombing hours after it happens. Day after day, we hear or we read about beheadings, and stonings, and just barbaric acts, but we never see them. We`re not even allowed to see our own World Trade Center collapse anymore.

I could describe to you how this 12-year-old boy hacked away at the man`s neck over and over and over again, as the crowd all around him, of adults, chanted, "Allahu Akbar," or how he raised the man`s severed head, in triumph, once he hacked it off. But until you actually see it, you have no concept of what we`re really up against.

Unfortunately, the real story is, you will never see this video. It will never air in the United States. Why? Well, let me tell you this: The pictures you see are all I`m allowed to show you, OK? These pictures here, that`s it. The media, including this very network, says that showing the video -- you ready? -- will just incentivize people to create more beheadings. If that is true, may I ask this network, may I ask all centers of the media to explain to me why we would air the Virginia Tech shooter`s rambling manifesto just days after he massacred 32 people?

We label that as news to make ourselves feel better about the ratings it will bring in, when the fact is it is completely gratuitous and irrelevant to the story. The event had already happen. The threat was over, and the murderer was dead!

News flash, America: These Muslim extremists are alive and well. They are not dead, and their video is not gratuitous, and it certainly is not irrelevant. It is a warning. All of us, Christians, Jews, Muslims, we have to see these things with our own eyes, remind ourselves who we`re up against, how far they`re willing to go.

Of course, we can continue to ignore it. You know, we can just ignore, like the Russian media calling us an enemy. We can ignore the news in Iran is getting cozy with Al Qaeda and Russia and helping terrorists in Iraq and smuggling arms to the Taliban in Afghanistan. Of course, ignoring it doesn`t really make it go away, because, unlike us, our enemies aren`t afraid to be crystal clear about their intentions. The only problem is that we continue to refuse to listen.

Dr. Zuhdi Jasser, he is from the American Islamic Forum on Democracy and new contributor to the program. Zuhdi, did you happen to see this video?

DR. ZUHDI JASSER, AMERICAN ISLAMIC FORUM FOR DEMOCRACY: No. I heard about it and read about it, but I did not see it.

BECK: Do you -- first of all, let me start here. What message are they trying to send to the Muslim world and to the Western world?

JASSER: Well, I think now, you know, we knew about Nick Berg and Daniel Pearl and Paul Johnson, and now they`ve gone to even a lower evil of medieval, barbaric behavior to use children, who are actually the most fertile soil for this brainwashing of theocracy.

And the issue is, is that this is a wake-up call. And, you know, Glenn, I agree with you about the fact that this is something that we need to inform the American public that this is what`s going on. And my faith - - I mean, to see a child use a phrase that I use over 50 times a day, where I say "Allahu Akbar" when I pray, it`s something about the spiritual, loving God of Abraham, and to see it done this way is just an abomination.

And it should be a wake-up call to Muslims that there is something awry in the Muslim culture in Pakistan, Afghanistan and elsewhere that`s tribal -- and I like to call it pre-Islamic culture -- that has become completely corrupt. If we`re going to get that back and rescue it, they`re going to have to wake up to the evil.

BECK: Zuhdi, I can`t believe that you just said pre-Islamic culture. I`m reading a book -- I don`t even know when this came out -- a friend of mine said, "You`ve got to read this." It`s called "Muhammad: A Prophet of Our Time," and it`s by Karen Armstrong. I`m only about halfway through, and I wanted to actually ask you offline about it, because the world that Muhammad grew up in seems an awful like the world that these barbarians are living in today.

It`s almost like -- he had such a message of peace, and it looks like it has been hijacked by the same barbarians before he arrived, and it`s just been used for political purposes to create what they already had before he came. Am I wrong?

JASSER: You`re exactly right. And that`s what`s so vital, Glenn, is that we`re missing the boat. If we don`t allow Muslims to finally wake up, and try to figure out, and revisit what the true, peaceful message of Muhammad was, and that he came to correct a society that was tribal, medieval, that was vicious, and that also was very receptive to a new rebirth of a Jewish and Christian type of morality and courage.

And that`s what this is. It should be a wake-up call to us to try to bring back the spiritual component of my faith that is being hijacked by these radical networks.

BECK: The reason why I felt so strongly that this video should be seen on television -- and it will never be seen, America, you will never see it -- a friend of mine came to me in church yesterday and brought me a bunch of pictures. And I want to throw them up on the screen here.

This is from a rally, an extremist rally in London. And it`s -- you know, people should be slain who defame Muhammad, et cetera, et cetera. And she said to me, "Is this real or is this Photoshop?" And I said, "This is real." She said, "How come I have never seen these?"

This is in London. This is a place -- here we are on a day when Al Qaeda has basically announced Hiroshima is coming to England. Does it play a role --do you believe that the media is holding these things from us to have us disengage in some way or another?

JASSER: I think there`s a couple things. First of all, I think they`re in denial. Part of it is a sense of trying to filter what`s going on.

But I`ll tell you, also, you have to remember, I have mixed feelings about this as a Muslim, because, in some ways, the ransom that these barbarians want is to get this video aired. So in some ways, you`re feeding into it. But, you know, until we wake up and realize what`s going on, there may be some benefit to at least highlighting what`s going -- what they`re actually doing. And there`s a fertile soil.

BECK: Zuhdi, you are a Muslim that I as a Christian -- we see eye-to- eye. We both have respect for each other`s religion, and that`s the path that we should be taking, and name our enemies by name. They are not Islamic; they are barbarians. Doctor, thanks.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: You saw that Alec Baldwin has written a new book that`s coming out this fall, right? It`s on how to behave and how to survive a divorce. No, he really did. I swear to you. Swear to you. One of the chapters is, like, you know, how to make sure the kids are OK. And I mean, it`s insane.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It`s going to sell well. It`s going to sell well.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: No, it will be. No, it will be a huge seller.

Voice mail heard around the world, Alec Baldwin has berated his 11- year-old daughter for missing an appointed phone call. I actually heard people saying, "Well, that wasn`t that bad." Are you out of your mind? TMZ.com got the audio. And in case you`ve been living under a rock for the past few days, here it is.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ALEC BALDWIN, ACTOR: You don`t have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don`t give a damn that you`re 12 years old, or 11 years old, or that you`re a child. I am going to get on a plane and I am going to come out there for the day and I am going to straighten your ass out when I see you. So you`d better be ready Friday the 20th to meet with me. So I`m going to let you know just how I feel about what a rude, little pig you really are. You are a rude, thoughtless, little pig, OK?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: Can you even imagine saying that to your daughter, your son? I don`t care if they`re 40. I can`t imagine. And now he`s got this book out, I believe released by the same people who wrote "How to Live a Long, Healthy, Drug-Free Life" by Anna Nicole Smith. No, come on, really, I mean, it would be funnier if Howard K. Stern wouldn`t sue me on that joke.

But now how is the Baldwin situation going to play out? Celebrity attorney Jeffrey Steinberger is here.

And, Jeffrey, it`s not true that you`ve seen worse with this, is it? Have you really seen worse than this?

JEFFREY STEINBERGER, CELEBRITY ATTORNEY: Glenn, I`ve got to tell you, this is not Baldwin`s shining hour in parenting, I can tell you that.

(CROSSTALK)

STEINBERGER: I got to tell you, you know, divorce is a hostile and hot environment. And 99 percent, as much as you don`t want to hear this, 99.8 percent of my clients, both celebrity and non-celebrity clients together, have said galactically more stupid things than this.

BECK: Not to their kids. To an 11-year-old girl, who does that?

STEINBERGER: Glenn, it`s insensitive; it`s a tirade; it`s a temper tantrum. But this is a heated environment. This is hostile.

(CROSSTALK)

BECK: I`ve got tell you, I mean, anger management comes to mind. Anger management comes to mind. I mean, can you imagine? I mean, you think that -- what`s his name -- Mel Gibson needs some anger management classes, this guy needs serious rehab. Something`s going on here, if you call your daughter a thoughtless pig over and over again?

STEINBERGER: Well, you know, the thoughtless pig thing could have been the fact that he`s trying to get back in the ballgame and just trying to be a dad again. Yes, he`s insensitive. Yes, it was a tirade. Yes, it was angry. You know, you`re going to cry? I`m going to give you something to cry about. It`s in that same kind of mode.

This is the kind of thing that makes parents in a divorce heated, hostile emotional, and they take it out on the wrong person, and Ireland here was not the person that should have got his wrath.

Yes, I agree with you. I mean, he needs anger management, but he doesn`t need to lose the custody of his child. What I think was going on was he was trying to tell Ireland these are still certain rules, Daddy`s still home. There are certain rules that have to be followed, and I`m telling you those rules, even though we`re in a hard position with me and your mom.

BECK: I`ve got to tell you, he`s lost his daughter for all time. I don`t think there`s ever any recovery for something like that. And I`m not saying that he should necessarily lose the custody of his child just because I hear she`s not that much better. I don`t know these two, but I hear she`s an absolute nightmare, as well. I mean, just look at this. She had to be the one who released this, I mean, unless somebody`s tapping into her phone lines and stealing her phone messages. She had to be the one releasing this. How is this helpful at all? Will it affect the court case?

STEINBERGER: Well, I`ve got to tell you, what she did was insulting to the court, not to the child, but insulting to the court. The court will...

(CROSSTALK)

BECK: Wait, wait, in what way?

STEINBERGER: Well, because if they have a contempt order, and they have an order that seals these records and makes sure that nobody discloses these things, and that these two people shouldn`t be disclosing any personal information about each other to the press or the media, it`s in contempt of the court.

And the court will sanction her, in means of fines, in means of other kinds of methods, but not interfering with the custody of the child. The custody of the child and the best interests of the child are sacrosanct here. This is where the court comes in and says, "We`re not going to get in the middle of your game that you`re playing with your husband and involve your child like that. We`re going to look to the best interests of your kid, and we`re going to protect that kid. And if you guys want to battle it out and do bad things to your kid or emotionally upsetting things or go off the wall and be galactically stupid, that`s fine. We don`t get into that. We`re going to make this so that it has an end proceeding where the kid`s going to be OK."

BECK: Any consequence at all, then, just other than, "We`re not going to play that game"? Any consequence for either side?

STEINBERGER: Not any serious consequence that is -- no consequence whatsoever that`s going to affect the custody between the mother and the father.

(CROSSTALK)

BECK: Right. Unfortunately, all the consequences are with the kid. Jeffrey, thanks a lot. We`ll be back. Final thought in just a minute.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, our men and women in uniform are out, and they are making the ultimate commitment by putting themselves in harm`s way so we can stay safe. I don`t think there`s any way we can ever pay these people back, except through our loyalty. It is nice to try, from time to time. Servicemembers and their families are now being treated to something nice: free movies and refreshments, thanks to a new promotion by National Amusements, and I wanted to give them some airtime to say thank you.

They`ve joined with the USO of New York to help support those in our nation`s military service. And Shari Redstone is the president of National Amusements.

Shari, how are you?

SHARI REDSTONE, PRESIDENT, NATIONAL AMUSEMENTS: I`m very the good. Thank you.

BECK: Thank you so much for doing this. Tell me briefly what the program is.

REDSTONE: What the program is, we are providing free movies, popcorn and soda for all of the families who have men and women in active duty and for the servicemen themselves through the end of April. And then, in May, we are going to have special military discounts, again, for all of the servicemen who are in active duty, and women, and for their dependents.

BECK: Shari, I`m just guessing you`re from Boston.

REDSTONE: I am from Boston.

BECK: Because I don`t know if you know this in Boston: There`s no "r" in soda.

REDSTONE: I realize that.

(LAUGHTER)

But, you know, it comes with love.

BECK: You know, I know. So, Shari, you have this promotion going on, but you haven`t really been involved with the USO for very long. How did this come about?

REDSTONE: Well, a few months ago, I was approached by the USO. And I agreed to be honored by them, by the USO of New York City. And at that time, I actually knew very little about the USA. I knew they entertained our troops, and I knew about the care packages.

But over the last few months, I have learned so much about the programs that their involved in and how important they are to keeping our soldiers connected with their families back home. So I couldn`t do enough. I mean, really, what we`re doing now is such a small token to show our appreciation to these people.

BECK: So what happens after this promotion ends? Are you still going to be involved?

REDSTONE: Well, to be honest, I have meetings scheduled later this week, and it`s really it`s important to me to continue to be involved. I don`t think it`s often that we get an opportunity to show our appreciation to the troops. And it means a lot to them. And in speaking to the people in the military last week, I realized how much it means to them to know that the people in this country are supporting what they do and appreciating what it is that they do for us.

BECK: I don`t know your politics. I don`t really care about your politics. I don`t care if you support the war or disagree with the war, but supporting the troops is a great thing. Shari, thank you very much.

REDSTONE: Thank you very much.

BECK: By the way, there is a number at the bottom of your screen. I want you to call that number and donate. The USO is an absolutely amazing organization. They don`t receive any federal funds, and the troops really do appreciate just the thought that we all care.

From New York, good night.
