Drug Smuggler Who Led to Border Agent Arrests Being Tried; Is Hillary Engaging in Dirty Politics?; House Speaker Visits Border Town in Crisis

Aired November 19, 2007 - 19:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
GLENN BECK, HOST (voice-over): Tonight, a drug smuggler at the heart of the case that took two border agent guards and put them behind bars is arrested. Is justice finally being served for political prisoners Ramos and Compean?

Plus, swift boats away. Barack says Hillary is using dirty tricks to make him look bad.

SEN. BARACK OBAMA (D-IL), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: No, no, no, no. Look.

BECK: Who`s to blame for this latest example of slime-ball politics?

And a Saudi woman sentenced to 200 lashes for being raped by six men. Where are the voices of women in this country that are outraged?

All this and more, tonight.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: Well, hello, America. Tonight`s going to be kind of fun. We`ve got quite a show for you. We`re going to talk about the border at the bottom of the hour and stuff that I believe has rarely if ever been on national American television. But I want to start here on the border.

If you haven`t been following the stories of these two men that I consider our nation`s first political prisoners, former border agents Compean and Ramos, let me quickly bring you up to speed, because there have been some major developments over the last few days that we need to cover.

Back in 2005 agents Ramos and Compean attempted to apprehend a drug smuggler as he was trying bring in at least 700 pounds of marijuana into our country. After ignoring the pleas to stop, according to the agents, the smuggler appeared to reach for a gun, so they fired at him. One of the shots hit the drug smuggler, a guy named Davila, right in the butt when he was trying to get away.

Well, after some procedural questions cropped out and pressure put on Americans by Mexico on how the agents handled the reporting of the incident, the government decided to go after them. And they showered the known drug smuggler with immunity, medical care, and essentially a free pass to get in and out of this country as he damn well pleased, in order to lock up our agents with his testimony.

During the trial Johnny Sutton, the prosecutor in this case, made sure the jury never heard about this -- this incident that happened between the shooting of him and the resulting trial. Davila, the prosecution`s star witness in the case, was caught in yet another gigantic load of drugs.

The result? Compean and Ramos sentenced to more than a decade in prison. One of them is in solitary confinement.

But the story definitely doesn`t stop there. Here`s "The Point" tonight, America. This house of lies is about to shake apart. And you don`t want to be too close when it does. And here`s how I got there.

After months of dancing around the questions that surfaced about Davila being involved in the second drug run that would have thrown his credibility deeper into doubt. The government finally arrested him, and Davila made his first appearance in American court on marijuana smuggling charges on Friday. He now faces -- get this -- up to 40 years in American prison and fines up to $2 million.

There is no room to pretend anymore that this dirt-bag was a source worthy of throwing two Americans into prison who were just trying to defend our border. Here`s what you need to know tonight.

The people who threw Compean and Ramos in prison are not going to go down easily, my friend. There is far too much money and shady international dealings for this just to go away. And you have to wonder why this is happening just a few weeks before Compean and Ramos`s appeal.

Is it Thanksgiving, hopefully nobody is watching it? Or is it so that Johnny Sutton can stand at a press conference in a few weeks and claim, "Hey, this is all old news. We got him for that second drug run"?

There is so much more to this story. And I hope you`re ready, because in the next few weeks we`re going to be diving deep into this rabbit hole, no matter where it leads.

Tara Setmayer, she is a communications director for Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, and she knows this case inside and out.

Tara, thanks for being on the program. It was not only the October load, which Johnny Sutton on this program made me feel stupid for even bringing that up: "Glenn, we don`t even know anything, we`re still investigating that." But it`s not just that. There were other loads, as well.

TARA SETMAYER, COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR, CONGRESSMAN DANA ROHRABACHER: That`s right. This -- this arrest and indictment actually not only confirmed what we already knew, which was the October load. It was Congressman Rohrabacher`s office, our office, that revealed those documents back in March of this year.

So you know, Johnny Sutton`s song and dance about how the alleged October load -- "Well, we don`t know if it happened" -- that confirmed that he was full of it.

Not only that. He -- we found out there was another load in September of `05 and that they suspected Mr. Davila started running drugs on June 1st of 2005 all the way through November 30.

BECK: With our pass, right? With Johnny Sutton`s get-out-of-jail free card.

SETMAYER: That`s right. That`s significant, because he was issued six border crossing cards, one that allowed him to come and go as he pleased for 90 days. And that was issued on June 1st of 2005.

Now, the other significant part of this is that during the Senate testimony that Johnny Sutton was not under oath, by the way, in July he was pressured by Senator Cornyn and Senator Feinstein to answer the question: was it a mistake to give this guy an unconditional border crossing card if, in fact, he brought in another load?

And Johnny Sutton, after being asked six times, said, "Well, if in fact, he did smuggle in another load, yes, it was a huge mistake."

And then he also said, "Well, obviously, once we found out about the second load -- or criminal activity, his cards were pulled." But that`s not true. We have copies of those cards.

BECK: It is -- it is amazing, Tara. And I -- these guys, I think this leads all the way to the White House. There`s a possibility this goes all the way to the White House.

SETMAYER: Yes.

BECK: And everything that is going on of the selling out of our sovereignty. And I don`t think these people are going to go down easily. This involves big business. It involves massive amounts of cash. It involves corruption on both sides of the border.

Where does this -- where does this possibly end? It can`t end well.

SETMAYER: Well, I can tell you that, from the president on down, because of personal relationships with Johnny Sutton and Alberto Gonzales, they go way back to his days as governor in Texas. They have dug their heels in, and the president has shown obstinance in a way that is inexplicable. Unfortunately, this type of obstinance is going to ruin his legacy.

And Johnny Sutton, for someone to add charges, even after they knew this guy was smuggling drugs. This is when they added the civil rights charge.

BECK: Yes.

SETMAYER: They added that in December of `05. This is months after they knew that he smuggled drugs in. And so he`s defending the civil rights of a drug smuggler while law enforcement officers are in solitary confinement. It`s just outrageous.

BECK: Tara, we`ll talk to you again. I want to -- next time you`re on I want it pursue why the other side of the aisle, the Democrats, won`t even talk about impeachment. This is the kind of scandal that they`ve been looking for. But I think they`re all in on it.

SETMAYER: Glenn, let me say one quick thing.

BECK: Real quick.

SETMAYER: If this scenario was different and he was not a Mexican national and this had been a Middle Eastern terrorist with a dirty bomb in the back of that van, I guarantee you Ramos and Compean would be getting Medals of Honor at the White House, not in solitary confinement.

BECK: OK. Thanks, Tara.

Now I want to turn to one of the people whose life has literally been ripped apart by al of this. Monica Ramos is Ignacio Ramos`s wife and joined now by Mary Stillinger, her husband`s attorney.

Monica, let me first of all start with you. I talked with Duncan Hunter today. He said he delivered a letter to the president, saying, "Get these guys out of jail before Thanksgiving."

Have you talked to your husband since all of this news has been breaking? And how is he doing?

MONICA RAMOS, WIFE OF IGNACIO RAMOS: Well, I haven`t heard from him. Today I was hoping to be able to hear from him. It`s our son`s birthday. And, mainly for the other children, they`ve allowed him to call.

I`ve seen him as of last Friday. He seems to be in very good spirits. Of course, he was elated with the new information and developments in Davila`s arrest. But yes, he`s still very guarded.

BECK: And Mary, how important is this development in the case to your case?

MARY STILLINGER, ATTORNEY FOR IGNACIO RAMOS: Glenn, I think this is huge, actually. This was an enormous issue at the trial. And I represented Mr. Ramos at trial. We found out about the October load shortly before the case went to trial. The judge ordered the government to disclose that information to us. We tried and kept trying to get that into evidence at the trial. And we were not allowed to do that. That information was sealed. And I couldn`t talk about it.

The judge unsealed all that information on Friday. So this is the first time I`ve even been able to speak about it publicly.

BECK: Right. And Johnny Sutton -- Johnny Sutton told me that it wasn`t him. They didn`t -- I mean, it was the judge that decided. How hard did Johnny Sutton`s team fight to keep this stuff out?

STILLINGER: No -- well, first of all, Johnny Sutton`s office asked that it be sealed. They asked that it be kept out of evidence. They fought tooth and nail to keep that out of evidence, because I think they knew that the jury would be very affected by that information.

BECK: Sure. And Monica, now, your husband is in solitary confinement for his own safety, because he was beaten quite badly when he first got into prison. What a surprise there. And he`s had damage to his disks.

You`re saying now that he has received only minimal medical care. Is that true?

MARY RAMOS, WIFE OF IGNACIO RAMOS: Right. He`s not been able to see a medical doctor for his injuries. The only type of physician that they keep sending him is actually just a psychiatrist to see what his well- being, state of mind is right now.

BECK: Well, what about his pain?

RAMOS: Well, he continues to request treatment. He keeps asking that he view his records. We`re kind of finding. But nothing -- we have been declined to receive any of that information at this time.

BECK: Mary, your appeal date is happening next month. What are you - - what are you expecting? And do you think this is just a way for Johnny Sutton to say, "This is old news. We`ve already dealt with all of that. Let`s talk about the real criminals here"?

STILLINGER: I think that actually -- well, a couple of things. First, in the appeal -- and I`m not the lead lawyer on the appeal, but I`m very aware of the process. This information actually cannot come into the appeal, because an appeal is on the record at the trial.

So I think we have every expectation we will win the appeal. We will win it on the grounds that we`ve already raised.

I think that this prosecution came with about now because they wanted to wait until the storm was over with all the attention -- or that they thought the storm was over. I think the investigation of Aldrete-Davila was basically put on hold for about a year and a half.

BECK: Yes.

STILLINGER: And then it was allowed to proceed.

BECK: Mary, I`ll tell you, the storm has only begun. This is a -- this is a rabbit hole that is just unending.

Mary, Monica, thanks. Best to you and your family this Thanksgiving.

RAMOS: Thank you.

BECK: America, as our families gather together this week for Thanksgiving, please, let`s not forget the men who I believe are America`s first political prisoners, Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos. They both have been locked up now for 307 days. U.S. border agents serving their time for doing their job to protect you and me.

Coming up, does Hillary Clinton have scandalous information on the candidate of hope, Barack Obama? We`ll get some answers next.

And Nancy Pelosi has swung by Laredo, Texas, this last weekend, where she spent some good time with our good friend, Representative Cuellar. Suspicious timing? You bet. More in a bit.

And don`t forget, tonight`s show brought to you by the Sleep Number bed by Select Comfort. Find your sleep number today at a Select Comfort store near you.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, every day we`re inching closer and closer to the continental mess I like to call Mex-Ameri-Canada. But guess what? Big business just loves this idea. What a shocker that is. It`s an inconvenient fact I`ll tell you more about in tonight`s "Inconvenient Segment," coming up.

But first, when conservative columnist and generally good-looking man Robert Novak calls Hillary Clinton, quote, "such a good person," to me that`s pretty much the same thing as seeing the four horsemen of the apocalypse riding into town. You know what I mean? Armageddon, somebody check the scriptures. Or it`s just another day in the life of presidential campaign politics.

Well, the compliment came in response to questions about an unsourced item in Novak`s column over the weekend, which stated that Clinton had scandalous information -- shh, but don`t tell anybody. It`s about her closest rival, Barack Obama. And that she had chosen not to disclose it because of that whole good person thing.

Obama was quick to respond, releasing a statement accusing the New York senator of dirty tactics and demanding that she, quote, "Either make public any and all information referred to in the item or concede the truth that there is none."

The Clinton camp went on with the second option and said there was no truth to the column, nor did they have any idea what Novak was talking about. And -- surprise, surprise -- blamed it on a vast right-wing conspiracy.

Democratic strategist Peter Fenn joins me now.

You know, Peter, I`m pretty -- they say that I`m the 18th most influential conservative in America. I don`t know who these people are in this vast right-wing conspiracy.

PETER FENN, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST: Just take it. It`s a great accolade. What the heck?

BECK: It`s a conspiracy. I don`t get those calls. I want to be in the club. Which do you think it is, Peter?

FENN: Well, I`ll tell you. I think this is a very tough time for these candidates. It`s six weeks before the Iowa caucuses on January 3. And they`re all walking on egg shells. They`re all afraid anything`s going to upset their apple cart. So...

BECK: Peter -- Peter, you know how much I love you, right?

FENN: Right.

BECK: I love you.

FENN: Right.

BECK: You`re a Democrat I love. I`m not going to let you get away with that. Come on, give me a real answer. Do you think this is a vast right-wing conspiracy or do you think this is Clinton playing politics?

FENN: I think -- look, I smell a little bit of a rat here. I`ll tell you why.

BECK: So it`s Clinton?

FENN: Well -- no. No, no. Here`s the situation. Bob Novak, who`s a friend of mine and I like him a lot, but you know, he doesn`t have that -- his sources are usually the Karl Rove sources, the insider Republican sources. So the Clinton people...

BECK: Wait a minute. Hang on just a second. He said it was an insider on the Clinton campaign.

FENN: That`s what he says. And I, you know...

BECK: Is Karl Rove working for...

FENN: Well, you never can tell. You`ve got to watch Karl. He`s a little slippery.

But I mean, look, what a thing to have happen in the midst of a campaign. Right after she talks about mud-slinging in a debate, suddenly, then what, is she the one slinging mud?

If somebody in the Clinton campaign has something, as Barack says, they probably ought to put up or shut up. There`s nothing there. This is a guy who wrote it all in his book. He wrote it all.

BECK: He`s already come out and said, "I`ve done drugs. I -- you know, I`ve done all kinds of stuff. Bring it on." I mean, he makes -- honestly, he makes Hillary Clinton look like, you know, George Bush on sodium pentothal. I mean, she just won`t say anything. And he lays it all out.

FENN: Well, I think they`ve all laid a lot out. Look, I mean, I remember coming to one of these shows. I was -- I was coming up in the elevator, and the guy said, "We`re going to talk today about how Hillary Clinton killed Vince Foster."

And I said, "Well, you know, Elvis is coming up in the next elevator." I mean, what are you -- they`re throwing crazy stuff to the wall, see what sticks.

BECK: OK. Hang on, Peter. I have to say to you, I`m a guy who, during the -- you know me, I`m a conservative. But I`m an American. And I said -- and I got in so much trouble. People were yelling and screaming. "You believe the best in Bill Clinton?"

And I said, "No. I believe bill Clinton is Bill Clinton, for the love of Pete. But I don`t believe that the president is off killing people who disagree with him."

FENN: Right.

BECK: And the same can be said -- you know, stop with the George Bush nightmare stuff. I mean, they`re just -- they`re people we disagree with.

However, with that being -- with that being said, I do believe the Clintons are exactly the kind of people that would say, "Oh, boy, if you only knew what I knew" and not have anything or maybe even do but just try to smear people.

FENN: But I think that`s really stupid politically. I mean, if you - - look, first of all, if there`s stuff out there, you`re not the only one that`s got it, other people have. So keep your mouth shut. If there`s nothing out there, you definitely should keep your mouth shut.

I don`t think the Clinton people are this stupid. Because the problem right now, Glenn, is that things are so volatile out there that, you know, one spark can start a political prairie fire. So you have to watch what you do.

Look, you know, if you are out there in Iowa and you happen to talk to somebody and ask them, here`s a question you might want to ask Hillary Clinton, my word, suddenly planting questions. Her integrity`s in question. You`ve got to stop this stuff. You can`t engage in this kind of stuff.

BECK: Here`s what -- America, if I may speak for you, I think this is what you want. Just say what you mean and mean what you say. Politicians, stop with all the games. Just be straight with us.

FENN: Right, right.

BECK: Peter, I`ve got to run. But thank you very much.

FENN: Thanks, Glenn.

BECK: Coming up, after a showdown on this program with a local sheriff, Texas Congressman Cuellar decided to call in reinforcements. And Nancy Pelosi is the best he could do? Yes, she took a weekend trip to the border town of Laredo. And that should fix everything. Right? Not so much.

And while our government continues to strip this nation of its sovereignty with transcontinental highways, it should come as no surprise that big business is waiting in the wings. In fact, in many cases they`re leading the charge. Perfect "Inconvenient Segment" coming up in just a second.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, my very good friend, Congressman Henry Cuellar -- excuse me. I`ve got bull crap in my throat. Must be feeling the heat in Laredo. Over the weekend Cuellar called in the reinforcements, and I guess the best he could do was House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who I hear is mighty popular these days.

She came into town Saturday for a tour of one of Laredo`s bridge crossings into Mexico. The bridges are just one of the ways the drug gangs in Mexico get their "merchandise," quote unquote, into the U.S.

Joining me now is Texas state senator Dan Patrick. Dan is also a talk radio host on KSEV 700 AM in Houston, my new affiliate in Houston.

Dan, first of all, did she even mention the kidnapped Americans, 21 of which are still missing?

DAN PATRICK, TEXAS STATE SENATOR: Not to my knowledge, Glenn. She was focused on the colonias, you know, these areas of poverty. And I`ve toured the colonias.

BECK: Yes.

PATRICK: And what I find interesting, Glenn, is that I was with an African-American legislator on my last trip down to the border going through the colonia.

And he said, "You know, Dan, we`ve got neighborhoods worst than this in Houston." And I would say probably New York, Detroit, Appalachia and all around America. She focused on these poor neighborhoods, and she didn`t focus on the poor kidnapped Americans.

BECK: Yes. That`s weird, isn`t it? Twenty-one -- do we know any place else in the country where 21 Americans are still missing from being kidnapped and nobody is making mention of this?

PATRICK: No. We`re not making mention of it, because it`s embarrassing to the Bush administration. It`s embarrassing to the Democrats. It`s embarrassing to those local officials along the border. Our government should be trying to find our citizens.

BECK: Yes.

PATRICK: You know, the last time I was with you, Glenn, I said I can`t imagine any city in the country where there`s been 60 kidnappings in the last ten years, more or less 60 kidnappings in this one area in the last couple of years.

BECK: Sure.

PATRICK: And what Nancy should have been doing was asking questions of the mayor, of the county officials, of the FBI, of the Border Patrol, what are we doing to protect American citizens, most of which are, by the way, Mexican-American legal citizens who have been kidnapped.

BECK: Right. But she was also, Dan, very, very busy to make sure that -- and I love this. This is the story of the day. That the Salvation Army must hire people and -- and companies cannot fire people who cannot speak English.

PATRICK: What`s amazing about this story, Glenn, is there`s a bill in congress that would remove the alternative minimum tax, which is going to impact 22 middle -- 22 million middle American families with about $2,000 more in taxes on average per family.

BECK: That`s crazy.

PATRICK: And the Hispanic Democrats in Congress are holding that up, hostage, unless Nancy stops an amendment from Lamar Alexander that he passed in the Senate that`s now going over to the House that would protect employers from being sued by the government, of all people, the EEOC, by requiring their employees to speak English.

And this case comes from Massachusetts, where the Salvation Army fired two people because they didn`t speak English on the job. Now, I`m a small business person as well as a state senator, and I think I should have a right to require my employees to speak English.

BECK: Listen to me. Dan, thank you so much for coming.

America, this is why you watch "Dancing with the Stars," because at least that makes some sense.

Coming up, I am nothing less than shocked and appalled by how women are treated in the Middle East. But where is the outrage not only with women there but women here when a woman is whipped and jailed because she was raped? Blood will shoot out of your eyes. Coming up next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, welcome to "An Inconvenient Segment." Tonight I`m going to answer the question that I think everybody in America has been asking for a while. Why the hell haven`t we sealed up our borders yet? Buckle up. The truth is not pretty. But if you want it, here it is.

Last fall at a luxury resort in Alberta, Canada, there was a meeting of a group called the North American Forum. It took place, and neither you or I was supposed to know much about it. Unfortunately for them and thanks to people like Mel Hurtig, who you`re going to meet here in just a second, we do know about it.

The topic that weekend was "Continental Prosperity in the New Security Environment." And on the agenda were carefully titled sessions like "A Vision for North America," "Issues and Options," "Demographic and Social Dimensions of North American Integration," and "Border Infrastructure and Continental Prosperity."

Well, for those that were invited to the meeting, included high-level executives, military personnel, government officials from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. People like George Schultz or James Woolsey, the president of Lockheed Martin Americas, the admiral in charge of the U.S. Northern Command. Donald Rumsfeld was invited, although I heard he couldn`t make it.

The list really from all three countries was very impressive. So why should you care about a bunch of wealthy elitists getting together and drink cognac and smoke some Cubans? Well, you should care for three reasons.

First, North American Forum itself is highly secretive. Get this, there`s no Web site, there`s no mailing address, no phone numbers, which is odd for a group with that kind of VIP guest list.

In addition, all of the government employees who attended, paid their own way. You`d think that`s good. Not so much. Because no tax dollars being spent means no Freedom of Information Act.

Second, the forum has been referred to by officials as "a parallel structure" and "a sister organization to the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America," otherwise known as the SSP, which is an official government program.

And finally, you should care because, gang, there are some in this country who believe that America will never be able to compete with the European Union or with China in the years to come and discussions about the future sovereignty of our country should not be held in secret meetings in fancy resorts. They should be held out in the open, where we the people still have a voice and a vote.

Mel Hurtig is best-selling Canadian author. He`s also one of the guys who helped get the word out about that secret NAF meeting last year.

Mel, first of all, I find this amazing. If you go -- everybody denies this is secret and the spp.gov actually has a Web site where they have myths and facts. The one that on this is the U.S. government officials -- the myth is U.S. government officials sponsored a secret SPP planning meeting in Alberta in September 2006, the fact is we didn`t sponsor it, we didn`t pay for it.

I mean, it`s this kind of word game that they`re playing to try to dispel all this stuff, but it`s real, isn`t it?

MEL HURTIG, AUTHOR, "THE VANISHING COUNTRY": Well, Glenn, the important thing to start off with is that nobody knows who paid for it. All the people who attended that meeting were given instructions not to talk to the press. And after I released to the press here in Canada the agenda and some of the things that were being talked about and, more importantly, this incredible list of high-powered Americans and Canadians from government and from business and the secretary of the treasurer from Mexico, nobody would admit who was paying for these meetings.

And some of the people who actually went, including some Canadian cabinet ministers, actually wouldn`t admit that they even attended the meeting. But heading the meetings from the United States was former Secretary of State George Schultz, from Canada Peter Lougheed, the former premier of the province of Alberta, and from Mexico, the former secretary of the treasury.

BECK: You know, they leave too many telltale signs. For instance, last year at the U.N. -- and I talk about this in the book, the ambassador to the U.N. from Mexico said, this integration, this, as I call it, MexAmeriCanada, the merging of these three countries, must happen in the next seven or eight years, before the Baby Boomers in America hit and retire. That`s a quote that I have from the ambassador to the U.N. from Mexico. And yet they`ll deny that anything is happening.

HURTIG: Well, look, Glenn, one of the interesting things that is happening is despite the lack of -- I guarantee you, 99 percent of Americans haven`t heard about this, and 95 percent of Canadians haven`t hurt about it. And that`s because there has been almost nothing in the media and they`ve made huge efforts, very strenuous efforts to keep this a secret.

Now, let`s see now. Why would they want to keep it a secret? Well, pretty interesting. They want to keep it a secret because what they`re trying to do is go around government. They know that if you`re talking about integration of these countries that there`s no way this would ever pass in the U.S. Senate or in the House of Representatives.

As a matter of fact, the House of Representatives has already cut back some funding for anything to do with this. And Glenn, 15 American states have said, wait a minute, we can`t get involved in this because what this means is a loss of sovereignty.

BECK: Mel, thank you very much. And I`ll have you on again because this is so important for people to understand. And I`ve got to tell you, America, what you didn`t know is this language was put into the amnesty act. It was buried right in the center of it. And you can read all about it in chapter 22 of "An Inconvenient Book," called "Illegal Immigration: Behind the Lies."

It is a must read if you really want to understand the bigger picture of why none of the problems with our borders ever seem to get fixed. There is something else going on, and it`s all in the book.

I have been saying for months now something else about radical Islam. This is another one that`s got us up against the ropes. If we want to beat radical Islam, the secret is for women to join together, stand up, say enough is enough. Not only there in the Middle East but here in America as well.

Well, last week in Saudi Arabia a court ordered that a female rape victim, a girl who was just 19 when she was assaulted, raped, sodomized, was given 200 lashes and thrown in jail for six months. Her crime? Being alone in a car with her ex-boyfriend, just talking.

The lashings themselves are often so brutal, according to The New York Times, the punishment is done in public usually, and it is "meted out in increments because the offenders couldn`t survive hundreds of lashes at once."

When I heard this story last week, I mean, this is the very definition of a strict Sharia law under Islamic law. This is a law that homosexuals can be imprisoned, lashed, or executed, adulterers can be stoned to death, and a man can hit their wives without any repercussions. You might remember. Remember I played that Dr. Phil of Saudi Arabia on the TV show a couple of weeks ago basically counseling men on how to beat their wives without leaving a mark?

Well, now you can imagine in a country like ours, a country that has led the women`s rights movement around the world, organizations like the National Organization of Women, would be outraged by a rape victim who was violently lashed and thrown into prison, right?

Well, I`m going to read all that they have had to say on this particular story, the National Organization of Women, I`m going to tell you exactly what they said, in 60 seconds.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, women standing up against radical Islam is our best chance to defeat that movement without ever firing another bullet or putting another troop in harm`s way.

Before the break I promised you that I`d read the full statement of outrage from the National Organization of Women and organizations like that, about the case in Saudi Arabia where a rape victim was sentenced to 200 lashes and thrown in jail for being raped. So here they are.

No, I mean -- what? That would require the National Organization of Women to be consistent. They`ve said nothing on this. Taina Bien-Aime is our guest from -- she`s the executive director of Equality Now.

Taina, are you amazed at this story and the silence that is deafening in it?

TAINA BIEN-AIME, EQUALITY NOW: Well, unfortunately, this story, which is horrific, is a story that happens way too often. We`re just very grateful that this story came out and that the press is covering it, including press in Saudi Arabia.

But this violation against women`s rights is unfortunately pervasive and it`s severe, and rare are the countries where this sort of thing doesn`t happen, in particular countries that are governed by Sharia law.

BECK: Taina, I have said -- I have said to some very powerful women in America -- and most of them liberal, and I`ve said, really, just galvanize women against what`s happening in the Middle East and everything will change.

They laugh at me. They say that I`m crazy, that that wouldn`t change anything. It amazes me how women are the answer to everything in our society but not the answer apparently for one of the biggest issues we have faced at least since World War II, maybe in the history of the world.

BIEN-AIME: Well, I think what we need to do is really support the work that is being done on the ground. I mean, we work with grassroots organizations around the world, and there`s not one community where human rights violations don`t occur against women where you don`t have brave people like this woman`s lawyer who speak up and ask for international support.

The concern these days -- I mean, the difficulties that we`re finding in our work is now that they are shunning Western support, whether it`s in Iran or in Saudi Arabia because they get punished by it. So it becomes very difficult.

BECK: Well, what`s amazing to me is, A, the court made this sentence worse because her attorney spoke out against it. The attorney has been disbanded. The rapists got next to nothing when you really come down to what these guys did. And this -- what she violated basically was a segregation law.

Again, it`s like a whites-only water fountain, except it`s with women. The woman could not be in the car with her ex-boyfriend. And they were talking. She was trying to get a picture back from him. It`s an outrage.

BIEN-AIME: No, it is an outrage. And Saudi Arabia in particular has very, very strict segregation laws. And one law is called the kawa (ph), where a woman and an unrelated male cannot be in a private place together. In this instance she allegedly was in the car. She was in a public place with this man. So that`s one issue.

But also, when you -- when a woman is raped in countries that are governed by Islamic law, or governed by courts that have a very strict interpretation of Sharia law, you need the confession of a rapist or the eyewitness testimony of four male Muslim.

BECK: America, you`ve got to wake up to this stuff. Taina, thank you very much. That`s tonight`s "Inconvenient Segment." To read more about my solutions on illegal immigration and radical Islam, please check out my new book "An Inconvenient Book." It`s in the bookstores everywhere nationwide tomorrow. Coming up, Kelsey Grammer, Adam Sandler, Chuck Norris. How tough is it to be a conservative in Hollywood? When liberals run the City of Angels, it`s a hush-hush game for Republicans. The new McCarthy era. We`ll find out next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, it is amazing to me that Hollywood is virtually synonymous with -- I was going to say liberalism, but it`s more like Communism. Considering how many celebrities that are a product of conservative values. For instance, Michael Moore, blue-collar kid.

In my book I actually reprinted an unbelievable quote from this fathead, where he actually -- I`m sorry, that wasn`t Christ-like. Then again, you`re not watching Jesus. So he actually had the audacity to say, and I quote: "Listen, friends, you have to face the truth. You`re never going to get rich. The system is rigged in the favor of a few, and your name is not among them, not now, not ever."

I mean, this is amazing. It shows you how quickly the chosen few can forget where they came from and what got them there. But believe it or not, there are a few Hollywood people that actually call themselves conservative, unfortunately, not as sexy as bashing the president. So you don`t really hear from these people very often.

In fact, a few people who have allegedly, and I do have to say, allegedly, made Republican campaign contributions, or they`re known for, you know, leaning conservative, people like Kevin Costner, Mel Gibson, Adam Sandler, do it all behind the scenes because it will cause them trouble.

Why is that? And is it going to change once the thick of the election gets under way next year? Andrew Breitbart is the co-author of "Hollywood, Interrupted" and editor for the Drudge Report and breitbart.com.

What a coincidence. Your name is the same as the breibart.com thing. Andrew, you look like you have no sense of humor. There you go.

ANDREW BREITBART, CO-AUTHOR, "HOLLYWOOD, INTERRUPTED": Oh, no, no. I`m trying to look serious for you. This is CNN.

BECK: Don`t look serious. I had dinner over the weekend with a Hollywood guy who`s a conservative. And said, there`s a few of us that meet and we kind of meet quietly and we`re trying to expand that circle. He was actually -- I mean, it was like blacklist stuff. It was McCarthy era.

BREITBART: That`s exactly what it is, Glenn. I wrote this book with Mark Ebner four years ago, and I used to think it was somewhat funny, and I used to think that it was just a hardcore left-wing group out here and that it was worth making fun of how extreme they were, how they were so detached from Middle America.

What has happened in recent months and recent years and perhaps why I`ve lost a little bit of my sense of humor is to find out that there are tons of celebrities out here, named ones, ones that are associated with the 1960s excesses, who have seen the light and have a different perspective, at least have a base patriotic stand-by-the-president-during-the-time-of- war mentality.

And so now that I know these people exist, people who have make millions of dollars a year, who, when you talk to them, have tears in their eyes, talking about how much they love this country, that their families have people in the military in them and that they cannot believe that they cannot state their point of view for fear of being bullied out of their jobs.

BECK: Andrew, I have to tell you, I think if you want to be able to speak out, you want to be able to have trans fat, hey, let me go and have a Filet-O-Fish if I want to, you`ve got to be a conservative in today`s America. Everything is switched. It used to be, oh, well, they won`t let you dance or drink. Now it is the liberals. These people are always preaching diversity. But they don`t believe in diversity.

BREITBART: Well, one of the things that Hollywood -- one of the reasons why Hollywood has changed, this foreign box office now is more than domestic. And so when they make an anti-American movie, they go straight to San Sebastian in Spain for the film festival. They go to Venice. They go to Toronto. And they know that if they put out anti-American stuff that they`re going to get a standing ovation not from the Canadians, not from the Spaniards, not from the French, but the elite of the elite of the elite to whom they are pandering to.

BECK: How far left are we talking? I mean, I wasn`t kidding in the opening monologue. I think a lot of them are full-fledged socialists. How far is it? Is it that they don`t even like Joe Lieberman?

BREITBART: Oh, no. As a matter of fact, I have a friend who`s a comedy writer who`s on strike right now, who is a Joe Lieberman Democrat. He says, I cannot speak up about my politics in this environment. That`s the problem here. We`re not talking about a traditional Democrat versus Republican schism here. We`re talking about the moveon.org-George Soros crowd.

That is the traditional line that we have here in Hollywood.

BECK: Andrew, I`ve got to run, but thank you so much.

Coming up in just a second, Hollywood star, you can`t be pestered with the protesters, especially if what lies on the other side of those protesters, diamonds. Wait until you see the hypocrisy of this woman.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, I want to leave you with this final Hollywood thought. What comes to mind when I say Hollywood? Is it the millions of dollars changing hands? The versatile superstar actors that can play any role with ease? Or maybe the barely 20-year-old starlets using paparazzi as speed bumps as they drunkenly drive down the back alley of a new club? Oh, good times in Hollywood.

Well, I don`t think of any of those things, quite honestly. I just cherish the fact that they take time out of their busy schedule to inform me and you exactly what we`re supposed to think. I mean, what would we ever do without them? We`re just a bunch of duh, I don`t know.

Other than, you know, avoid wasting $30 and two hours of time watching really crappy message movies, what would we do without Hollywood? Well, my favorite, Susan Sarandon, was in the news this weekend. This time, though, she wasn`t telling you how evil the war is or how evil your car is or how evil foie gras is or even how evil you are for trying to stop Islamic extremism. No, no, no, no.

Those are jobs that Hollywood does when there isn`t a party going on. The New York Post reported that Sarandon was in New York to do what, you know, fancy Hollywood elites do apparently, and that`s attend parties at jewelry stores.

Ooh. That sounds like fun, huh? You probably just wasted your time hanging out with your family. I mean, where are your priorities? The interesting thing here is that Sarandon, a woman of the people, had made her way through a picket line to get into the store. But it wasn`t a picket line for those peasant workers. No, no, no. This was a group of Palestinian protesters who were carrying signs and chanting slogans because they say the jewelry store`s parent company had built illegal West Bank settlements.

The protesters chanted: "Your glitz, your glam, you`re building on Palestinian land," and "occupation is a drag, just say no to your gift bag." Remember, the writers are on strike. So they did the best they could.

I`m a little confused by the story, however. I thought it was the evil United States policies that were crushing the poor Palestinians, not jewelry stores. I mean, why would such a concerned member of, you know, Hollywood cross a picket line like that? You know what?

The rocks probably were really, really shiny, and the champagne was really, really free. Or she had intellectually dissected their arguments and found them not to be credible. One of the two, I`m pretty sure.

Also, a reminder tonight before we leave you that this Friday and Saturday I`m going to be in eight cities across the country signing copies of my new book "An Inconvenient Book." You haven`t heard about it? It`s great. I`ll tell you more about it tomorrow. You can check glennbeck.com for the schedule.

And really, I mean this, I would love to spend a small part of my Thanksgiving weekend with you because that means I`m not spending a great amount of time with my crazy family. You know what I`m saying? From New York, good night, America.
