Exposed: The Extremist Agenda, One Year Later

Aired November 29, 2007 - 19:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

GLENN BECK, HOST: For the next 60 minutes you are going to see video that you`ve probably never seen before. Islamic extremists in their own countries, in their own words. It`s video that personifies hate, rage. It is video that proves we`ve got to take the people in the Middle East at their word.
A video like this sermon captured from inside a Baghdad mosque.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: The Americans and their president, and the British, and their allies, and the Zionists, the spoiled offspring of this entity, Allahu Akbar [Allah is the greatest]. If Allah permits us, Oh Nation of Mohammed, even the stone will say, Oh, Muslim, a Jew is hiding behind me, come and cut off his head. And we shall cut off his head. By Allah, we shall cut it off! Oh, Jews, Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Jihad for the sake of Allah! Victory for Allah! Allahu Akbar! The believers [Muslims] will triumph.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

BECK: We first exposed the extremist agenda on this program about a year ago. And thanks to you, that program became the second most highly rated show in the history of this network.

Since that time we`ve received thousands of calls and e-mails asking us to run it again. Well, a year has passed. We decided the time has come.

Even if you saw last year`s special, do you really remember it? Do you really remember the shock you felt the first time you saw how differently Ahmadinejad speaks when he`s back home in Iran? Do you remember the anger you felt when you first saw propaganda cartoons that Palestinian children are indoctrinated with?

Well, it is time to recapture those feelings, because the fight we`re in is far from over.

Before I show you the video tonight, I want to reiterate a couple of things I said a year ago. First, you`ve heard me say this a million times. I`m not a journalist. More importantly, I don`t even pretend to be one. I wear it as a badge of honor that I`m not. But I am always honest with you. And that`s what this hour is really all about: honesty, not political correctness.

Second, I`m a conservative. So when you hear me talk about anything from politics to immigration to, yes, Islamic extremism, you have to understand, like it or not, I express my opinions through that prism.

Third, this next hour is not a balanced perspective on Islam or the Middle East. It wasn`t meant to be. It is an important part of the story.

And finally, the video you are going to see tonight is from people who are involved in many conflicts all over the Middle East, but there is one common thread: they all use religion to justify their hatred and their violence.

And it begins with the most important weapon in their arsenal, the weapon of propaganda.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Why am I being operated on? I`m not sick. My eyes are healthy and I see everything.

GRAPHIC: By God, I am not lying to you! For God`s sake, don`t give me a shot. I am scared.

BECK (voice-over): What you`re seeing is an actual series that aired on Iranian television called "Zarya`s Blue Eyes".

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Please, please, don`t come near me with that needle. Help me, help me. Help me.

GRAPHIC: Brother Isma`il, grandpa. Help me, help me, help me.

BECK: Little Palestinian children have their eyes stolen by Israelis.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): My eyes, my eyes, I can`t see a thing. Why have you covered my eyes?

GRAPHIC: This land, and everything on it, belongs solely to us.

BECK: It`s one example of the extraordinarily hateful propaganda used by extremists in the Middle East.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We want the blood of a Christian child before Passover, for the matzos.

BECK: This series on Jordanian television shows a Jewish leader organizing the death of a Christian child. He uses the child`s blood to make matza, which he feeds to a non-practicing Jew.

GRAPHIC: This one is tastier and holier because it is kneaded with pure blood. I want to let you taste the holy Passover matzo.

JOSHUA MURAVCHIK, AMERICAN ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE: This stuff is not just on television. It`s in the newspapers. It`s in the mainstream newspapers of the Middle East.

BECK: This chilling cartoon ran in a state-owned Egyptian newspaper. It shows Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the podium, her hands dripping in blood.

And this cartoon, which ran in the official newspaper of the Palestinian Authority, shows a drunken President Bush toasting with former Israeli prime minister, Ariel Sharon, drinking from a bottle of Palestinian blood.

GRAPHIC: Zionist ideology uses all means to impose its cultural control.

BECK: To us, these are extraordinary claims. But that`s because we don`t hear these sorts of things every day. To many in the Middle East, they go unquestioned.

MURAVCHIK: There is something in the Middle East. I don`t know if it`s in the culture or maybe just from not having a free press ever in their history, having always state-controlled media, that there seems to be very great weakness of reality testing and a very great propensity to believe wild, far-flung, paranoid ideas.

BECK: Ideas like this, quote unquote, "news story" that aired on Iranian TV.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): The Zionists are the largest shareholders of the world`s drink manufacturers.

BECK: It`s supposed to be an investigative report, highlighting the evils of Israel and big American business. But listen as the reporter presents his findings as absolute fact.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Coca-Cola, besides its clear continuous support of the Israeli government, had announced its willingness to invest billions of dollars to topple the regime of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

GRAPHIC: They make hundreds of thousands of billions of dollars from this annually. This way, the export their colonialist schemes along with this product at no additional cost.

BECK: Coca-Cola wants to topple Iran. Obviously ridiculous. But the average Iranian citizen has no reason not to believe these claims.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Take for example, the Pepsi drink. You know what the name of Pepsi stands for? "Pay Each Penny Save Israel."

BECK: I can show you hours of this sort of propaganda, all of it equally as shocking. But what we really need to be asking is why it exists in the first place?

WALID SHOEBAT, AUTHOR, "WHY I LEFT JIHAD": The question always comes, is, why are they so successful and why are we such failures? Why have we failed to become the beacon of the world? We had thought of Islam as the beacon to the whole world, but yet we see poverty and we see death and we see mayhem. So of course, somebody has to be blamed.

GRAPHIC: He slaughters children using horrifying bombs in the name of peace he invades the country.

BECK: And that someone is Israel, a country that the propaganda claims is supported by the United States in almost everything we do. So it`s no surprise that we are often betrayed as the root of all evil, or as they call us, "The Great Satan."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): This is Satan, the source of tyranny.

BECK: It`s not always the faces of actual people who are demonized.

GRAPHIC: In her hand a torch and on her head a crown, plundered from the kingdom of Persia.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): She is the shadow of the tyrant, the anti-Christ.

BECK: It can be anything that represents our values, our freedoms, or our liberty.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: And now, in the end of days, in our days of iron, she is plotting a great conspiracy.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: Well, despite the propaganda that you hear from Iran, the fact is that the U.N. itself said just last week that they now know less about Iran`s nuclear program than they did one year ago, right around the time this special first aired. And that is exactly the problem.

Since propaganda is such a huge weapon in the Middle East, it`s hard to figure out what the truth is anymore. Now, when it comes to President Ahmadinejad, it`s -- I mean, that is even more difficult, because what he says to his people back in Iran is often far different from the flowery "everybody is my brother" type speeches that he gives in interviews and on college campuses here in the U.S.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

On September 19, Iranian President Ahmadinejad addressed the United Nations.

MAHMOUD AHMADINEJAD, PRESIDENT OF IRAN (through translator): We are all members of the international community, and we are all entitled to insist on the creation of a climate of compassion, love and justice.

BECK: One month later, back in Iran, Ahmadinejad made another speech. This time without the lights, the cameras and the worldwide media attention.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): What is a Security Council anyway? The whole world knows that America and England are the enemies of the Iranian nation.

DANIEL KURTZER, FORMER U.S. AMBASSADOR TO ISRAEL: There`s no question he is a very, very clever and smart debater. Then you can go back and dissect what he says to us or to the United Nations and understand that it`s a smoke screen.

BECK: A man with two faces and two very different messages. But most of us in the United States have only been exposed to the carefully crafted messages he wants us to hear.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): Our message is the message of peace and brotherhood with all nations, with all people. We love the American people as we love our own.

BECK: But just one month before that on Iranian news, he wasn`t talking about love and respect.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): If you want to have good relations with the Iranian people in the future, you should acknowledge the right and the might of the Iranian people. If you do not accept this, the Iranian people will force you to bow and surrender.

SHOEBAT: And when the camera turns, and you see the hundreds of thousands of people jeering "Death to America, death to Israel," it is this part that the west doesn`t see.

BECK: Back in the U.S., President Ahmadinejad was asked about Israel. And he answered very carefully.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): So what I`m saying is quite fair. We want peace to be established there. We care for the Jews who live under pressure there, as well.

BECK: But in his own language, the president seemed to have a much different message.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): I have said to the leaders of some western countries, stop supporting these corrupt people. Behold, the rage of the Muslim people is accumulating. The rage of the Muslim people may soon reach the point of explosion.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Death to Israel. Death to Israel. Death to America. Death to America.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Death to Israel. Death to Israel. Death to America. Death to America.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Death to Israel. Death to Israel. Death to America. Death to America.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I think the threat that he poses, though, is similar to the threat pose in the rise of Hitler in the 1930s when the world just sat relatively silent, silently watching Germany arm itself, watching Germany pose a threat and ultimately carry out that threat against its neighbors, and the world reacted much too late.

BECK: That threat becomes much more imminent with the development of an unsupervised nuclear program.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): We are no threat for anyone. The issue of making nuclear weapons has no place in Iran`s policy. Making nuclear weapons is not on Iran`s agenda.

BECK: But when speaking to his own country, the inferred threat from their nuclear technology seems pretty clear.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): Today the Iranian people are the owners of nuclear technology. If some believe they can keep talking to the Iranian people in the language of threats and aggressiveness, they should know that they are making a bitter mistake. For if they have not realized it by now, they soon will. But then it will be too late.

MURAVCHIK: The Iranian nuclear program is very much a threat to the United States. Iran is the -- by far, the biggest supporter of terrorism.

BECK: To understand that danger you need to see what you`re not seeing anywhere else. You need to hear what you`re not hearing anywhere else. To many people in Iran, we are the enemy.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): Are you weary?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): Are you weary?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): Then who is weary?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The enemy.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The enemy.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The enemy.

AHMADINEJAD (through translator): I want them to hear you. They are close. Let the world know if anyone plans to violate the rights of the Iranian people, the Iranian people will brand a shameful mark of remorse on his forehead.

BECK: A shameful mark of remorse on his forehead. I don`t know about you, but I`ll remember those words the next time he speaks of compassion, love and justice.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: Joining me now, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Prime Minister, what a privilege, sir.

BENJAMIN NETANYAHU, FORMER ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER: Good to be here.

BECK: Privilege.

You have said in a speech in Los Angeles that this is 1938 all over again and they are preparing a Holocaust, the second Holocaust. How frustrating is it that you can`t get people to pay attention to that?

NETANYAHU: It`s frustrating. It makes you understand how the `30s happened, because Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, is openly saying, while he denies the original Holocaust, he`s openly saying that he`s preparing another Holocaust to wipe Israel off the face of the earth with Iranian atomic bombs.

BECK: I talked to Condoleezza Rice, and she said to me -- I asked her. I said, "Look, this has not stopped. This guy has -- he has a doomsday apocalyptic view. He is clearly saying it."

And she said to me that we need to take him at his word but watch his actions, not necessarily all of his words. I think that`s suicide.

NETANYAHU: I think we should watch his actions and listen to his words. His words are matched by his actions. Iran is racing to build power plants, nuclear power plants. They have more oil coming out of their ears. They don`t need nuclear power plants.

BECK: Right.

NETANYAHU: They need and are seeking to build nuclear weapons.

I believe the IAEA, the International Atomic Energy Agency, just found traces of plutonium and uranium for the production of atomic bombs. These bombs are in the first instance aimed at Israel. Make no mistake about it. But they don`t intend to just hit Israel. Iran is gearing up to have -- to produce 25 bombs, atomic bombs a year, 250 bombs in a decade.

The missiles already overreaches -- they reach into every European capital and they are building missiles and developing missiles that will reach the eastern seaboard of the United States, i.e., New York City, the studio we`re sitting in.

So this is -- like Nazism, they start with the hatred of the Jews, and they want to annihilate the Jews. That`s only the first stop. Their goal is the -- is western civilization.

BECK: OK. Let me go into the land of the insane that nobody wants to go to, that I see -- I`m a Christian and I -- I see prophecy, and I see this guy speak of prophecy of his faith, where he stands in the well of the Senate, if we can give his words here: "Oh, mighty Lord, I pray for you to hasten the emergence of your last repository, the promised one, that perfect and pure human being, the one that will fill this world with justice and peace."

He has also said, "Anybody who recognizes Israel will burn in the fire of the Islamic nations` fury."

This man has an apocalyptic view. He has already said that he wants to march in through ancient Babylon and set up a global Islamic empire. Do you believe that? Do you believe this guy has that apocalyptic doomsday view?

NETANYAHU: I read an interview with a Holocaust survivor about a year ago in one of the European papers. And the interviewer asked the Holocaust survivor, "What is your main lesson from the Holocaust?"

And the Holocaust survivor said, "My main lesson is that if somebody tells you he`s going to exterminate you, believe him."

I believe that the president of Iran intends to exterminate Israel. I believe he intends to kill a lot of westerners and subjugate others. And by the way, also Muslims that don`t conform to his extremist views. And I think he`s a danger to the world. Because I believe his intentions, I think he has to be stopped and stopped in time.

The most important thing is to make sure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. This is what President Bush has pledged to do, and I think we should support him and see that this pledge is seen through, not merely for the sake of my country, Israel, but for the sake of mankind. This is a great danger to the peace of the world.

BECK: Yes or no, I`ve only got about 20 seconds. Yes or no, are you afraid that we are losing our will here in America?

NETANYAHU: I think if you engage Iran and thereby bring -- give it time to build nuclear bombs, it will hit your allies and then you. That would be a mistake. I hope my words here are sober -- a sober reminder we have to keep our eye on the ball. The main thing is prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

BECK: Benjamin Netanyahu, thank you, sir.

NETANYAHU: Thank you.

BECK: Best of luck.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: When it comes to furthering the extremist agenda, suicide missions are one of the most effective tools they have, because they leverage the extremists` best weapon, propaganda. Now what you`re about to see is shocking video, some of it taken from extremist Web sites that we can`t ensure the authenticity of.

But in the first clip, while the terrorists claim to be attacking Americans, the Defense Department says it has no knowledge of such an attack. But that is not the point. The message of this video, and all the others like it, is to incite other radicals and instill fear in the rest of us.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

LT. COL. RALPH PETERS, U.S. ARMY: The suicide bomber is essentially the poor man`s nuclear weapon.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking in foreign language)

GRAPHIC: This board. This is the board that Abu Muhammad, may Allah protect him. We will carry out the operation within a few minutes.

PETERS: Certainly a poor man`s precision weapon. The ultimate smart bomb.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: Go on a little further, and you will see them in front of you. Abu Muhammad, there are Muslims behind you.

PETERS: The suicide bomber is not only the most perfect -- and by the way, the cheapest -- precision weapon of our time, but it is the apotheosis of hatred.

You`ve got religious faith, primal hatred and the promise of ecstasy combined.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: I pray that Allah accepts this act of ours and his. He avenged the blood of al-Mulawi Nur Muhammad, whom you killed. May Allah curse you.

PETERS: What a powerful, powerful incentive: to kill yourself and be a martyr to your family, to your friends, to your civilization, to your god.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: Allah willing, we will massacre you and help the Taliban until we die.

BECK (voice-over): What you`re looking at is a video that aired on Hezbollah television. It shows a small boy reportedly describing his father`s suicide mission in Lebanon.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): This is the operation that Daddy carried out. This is the convoy coming from here, from Palestine.

NONIE DARWISH, MIDEAST EXPERT: The way we were brought up was that martyrdom is dying in the cause of jihad against infidels.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: This is the place of the operation in which he was gone.

DARWISH: Radical Islam has taken over, and even terrorists and suicide bombers are hailed as martyrs now.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): This is the car daddy blew up.

BECK: Although suicide bombers have been used in parts of the Middle East for years, some people believe that, because of how effective they are at spreading fear, it`s only a matter of time before the phenomenon reaches the U.S.

DARWISH: Americans must realize the danger. It`s very important we understand that it`s a major fight, and it creeped on us. We didn`t take it seriously. And now after 9/11, we have -- we must take it seriously.

PETERS: Clearly, the suicide bomber cannot directly defeat the U.S. military. But that`s not the goal.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (speaking foreign language)

GRAPHIC: Oh, Bush, you despicable son of a despicable man.

PETERS: The goal is to excite the media, to leapfrog over our military, which can`t be defeated by the terrorists, and appeal directly to the home audience.

I would never suggest that the suicide bomber is admirable. But I would suggest that to many in the Middle East, he is heroic.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: You know, one of the great things about somebody like me, a radio talk show host, getting his own show is that I can cover issues that I want to with my own prism, my own bias. I`m going to tell you flat out I`m not a journalist, I`m an average shmo just like you. But I think it`s that honesty that makes this show compelling.

And there is perhaps no more compelling segment than the next one. You are about to see how all of the hate and the propaganda and the lies are taught to the most impressionable among us, the children. It is as chilling as it is heartbreaking. And as you watch this next segment, ask yourself, how is it possible that a child this young, this innocent could be filled with so much hate?

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Peace be upon you. Allah`s mercy and blessings upon you.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): What`s your name?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Basmallah.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): How old are you, Basmallah?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Three-and-a-half.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Are you a Muslim?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Basmallah, do you know the Jews?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Do you like them?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): No.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Why?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Because.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Because they are what?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): They are apes and pigs.

WALID SHOEBAT, FORMER TERRORIST: (INAUDIBLE) they go into kindergarten, 6 years old. All kids have to sing a song what is called (SPEAKING ARABIC) which means Arabs are beloved and Jews are dogs. Yet never knew what a Jew was. By the time you got to high school, the songs got even more. Songs like (SPEAKING ARABIC), "oh Jews," calling the Jews, "oh killers," your blood is halal to us, is kosher to us.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: With my soul and my blood I call upon thee my country. With stones and with bullets I shall redeem you my country. Your martyrs and prisoners protect you, my country.

BECK (voice-over): By hiding propaganda in songs, children almost become immune to what they`re actually saying. And when children hear the same propaganda in their songs as they do from their parents, it quickly becomes fact.

Listen to this Kuwaiti sheikh preaching to parents about what to teach their children.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Oh, mothers and fathers, you must train your children every night, before they go to bed, to go on raids in order to liberate Jerusalem and al-Aqsa. And when he goes to sleep, after reading the Koran and the bedside verses, you should recite together with you the prayer of martyrdom, Allah, I pray to you in all honesty to be martyred for your sake. Do this every night.

BECK: Of course, aside from the parents, another effective way to reach kids directly is through television shows created for them.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Jerusalem is captive, shame follows shame. Oh, Muslims, Palestine is calling you, respond to the call. Jerusalem is calling you, beat the drums of Jihad, open the doors.

BECK: On Jerusalem Day, tens of thousands of people gather in Tehran to protest Israel and celebrate their hatred of the Jews.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): What day is today?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Jerusalem Day.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): What did you come for?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We came to do the "death to America" thing.

SHOEBAT: So in essence, we were learning that at some point in time when we kill the Jews after they gathered in Israel on the day of judgment that you`re taught, that we can even rape the women, we can even -- to the extent of raping the Jewish women. You know, sex was being used to manipulate the minds of teenagers.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You ruthless man, let him go.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shut up, old woman!

BECK: If sex is used to influence teenagers, then cartoons are meant to reach an even younger crowd.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I place my trust in God! Allah Akbar!

SHOEBAT: The education in the Middle East of demonizing the Jews is such an epidemic that they show cartoons all throughout the Middle East and you have children watching this cartoon.

BECK: Educating through hate. Celebrating death. It`s those memories that still haunt Walid Shoebat.

SHOEBAT: Even going to the zoo in Jerusalem as a teenager in school, school trip, my uncle was a teacher in the school. He flicked a cigarette to the gorilla that was in a cage. The gorilla had a habit of smoking. It picked up a nicotine habit.

So here`s the gorilla, it was smoking, and we were asking a question, well, we don`t believe in the theory of evolution, how in the world did the gorilla learn how to smoke? And the answer came with a Koranic verse attached to it: "These are the descendants of the Jews. Their ancestors broke the sabbath. They were punished in accordance to the (SPEAKING ARABIC) where it says (SPEAKING ARABIC).

The sabbath breakers were converted to becoming detestable monkeys. Jews being demonized and demoralized to the point that they are vermin, very similar to what happened in Nazi Germany.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: It`s not so easy to hear or see this kind of hate passed on to the next generation, but if they`re going to stop the cycle, the worst thing they can do is ignore it. Brigitte Gabriel, she grew up in Lebanon, was a victim early on of radical Islam, she`s now a U.S. citizen and author of a new best-selling book "Because They Hate."

Brigitte, we were just talking during that package about the school books that are not just happening in the Middle East, but what is being taught now in radicalized American Muslim schools?

BRIGITTE GABRIEL, AUTHOR, "BECAUSE THEY HATE": It is shocking what`s happening in schools all across the world, not only in America. The government of Saudi Arabia is printing books and establishing schools all around the world, over 25,000 schools established and funded by the Saudi government.

And they are supplying the books to these schools. And some of these books that are taught in the Middle East, like we just watched that teach children to hate and become suicide bombers, are being taught also in the United States of America.

And I`m going to quote you some of the sample of the books. This is a book from eighth grade and ninth grade books. This is called (SPEAKING ARABIC) for eighth grade, published 2001. This is page 43: "Jews and Christians cursed by Allah and turned into apes and pigs. Quoting (SPEAKING ARABIC), the verse 60, the lesson explains that Jews and Christians have sinned by accepting polytheism and therefore incurred Allah`s wrath, to punish them, Allah has turned them into apes and pigs."

It`s unbelievable hatred education that is being taught to elementary school children, secondary school children. How do we expect to teach a child such hatred against people like you and me and expect him to grow up an 18 year old and love us and respect us?

BECK: There`s also something in the books where it says that until the Muslims -- help me out here. Until the Muslims fight the Jews and the Christians, the day of judgment cannot come, right?

GABRIEL: Exactly.

BECK: Which explains the whole messianic kind of apocalyptic view of people like President Ahmadinejad in Iran.

GABRIEL: Exactly. And this is what the West needs to understand and realize about Islam. We are dealing with a radical ideology right now spreading all throughout the world with one goal, and that is the establishing of an Islamic khalifah throughout the world.

BECK: Explain that, because most people don`t even know what that is.

GABRIEL: A khalifah is an Islamic government ruled by Sharia law where everybody has to obey and live under Islam. In Islam there is no difference between the state and the religion. The religion is the state, and the state is the religion.

BECK: Right.

GABRIEL: And this is why we are seeing suicide bombers right now who are spreading throughout the world, screaming "Allahu akbar" as their last words, praising Allah as they die and go to heaven. But this is what they`re taught from the time they were little, from the time they were children.

BECK: So when you were -- you were growing up in the Middle East, you were in Lebanon, and you spent from 12 to 17 in an underground bunker, right?

GABRIEL: Yes.

BECK: What do you remember -- do you remember being taught any of this -- because you`re not Muslim. Do you remember being taught any of this, being exposed to this, hearing the songs, or anything like that?

GABRIEL: I was not taught hatred at home, but as a Lebanese girl growing in Lebanon, we had a lot of Palestinian refugees that came to Lebanon after the war. Lebanon actually was the only country who took in a third wave of Palestinian refugees in 1970.

So our government, which controlled the media, what we used to watch at television at night was "Israel Azrael." Azrael is the name of the devil. The Jews are evil, the Jews are barbaric, the only time we`ll have peace in the Middle East is when we kill all the Jews and throw them into the sea. This was the propaganda being espoused all throughout the media.

BECK: This show has taken me months to be able to put on the air. We have less than a minute. You`ve been in the media for a long time. Why is it -- why has it taken almost an act of God to get this show on the air?

GABRIEL: Because political correctness is killing us. Political correctness is the disease that is killing the West. It is the apathy by which the Muslims are killing us one by one. We have got to throw it in the garbage, where it belongs. People have to develop the backbone to stand up and identify enemy because the West right now is plagued with Islamofascism, a disease worse than cancer, that is going to kill our body unless we fight it and kill it first.

And unless people come to that understanding and hopefully we don`t have to suffer a nuclear attack on American soil, nor on British soil or any other Westernized nation, but this is where we`re heading. And the media is the first front in getting the message to the American public, and it`s their duty to do that.

BECK: Brigitte, thank you very much.

GABRIEL: Thank you.

BECK: More in a minute.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BECK (voice-over): A couple of months ago the leader of al Qaeda in Iraq urged his supporters to each kill at least one American in the next 15 days. It was a shocking statement but hardly surprising. Then, just a few days later, I came across a response to that message of hate that was surprising.

It said: "You hid in your caves and behind the faces of civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq. You have abandoned God and have started worshiping your own satanic egos that rejoice at the killing of innocent people."

Why do I say that statement, something that many of us agree with, is surprising? Because the man who wrote it is a Muslim. He lives right here in the United States.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: Dr. Aslam Abdullah, he is the director of the Islamic Society of Nevada. He is the author of that powerful letter. And he joins me now.

Doctor, thank you so much for being a part of the program.

DR. ASLAM ABDULLAH, DIRECTOR, ISLAMIC SOCIETY OF NEVADA: Thank you very much for having me on the show.

BECK: You had some really powerful things to say. What is the reaction that you received in the Middle East?

ABDULLAH: Not surprising, everyone that I have spoken, among Muslims, not only in this country but elsewhere in the world, have supported that. It has been translated into Arabic, Persian, and other languages of the world. And there has been overwhelming support of the Muslim community to this understanding and this kind of challenge that has been thrown to al Qaeda, all those people who advocate violence.

BECK: Why is it, it seems to me and to many Americans, that you don`t have Muslims really speaking out? I refer to them as the "yes, but Muslims." Yes, this is wrong, but you should know what`s going on in the Middle East. Why don`t we see massive rallies on the streets for Muslims that say, this is an abomination, we want our religion back?

ABDULLAH: Well, since 9/11 more than 3,000 statements have been issued by Muslim organizations such as Muslim Council of America, Muslim Public Affairs Council, Islamic Society of North America. More than 1,500 forums organized by Muslims and non-Muslims have addressed that particular issue. And nearly 4,000 such kind of forums were organized by Muslims.

And I know at least that 13 rallies took place in New York and Los Angeles and in Chicago, where Muslims have spoken against. But it takes only Glenn Beck to bring a voice like this one to communicate to the rest of the people that violence is wrong.

BECK: Sir, I make this offer to you anytime you want to speak out. You are more than welcome on this program.

ABDULLAH: Thank you very much.

BECK: To me it is not just issuing words, though, it is -- I mean, what you said is courageous. It took a lot of courage to say. But the words that would make a real difference to many people is a fatwa, anybody who desecrates Islam, they issue a fatwa, death to you, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.

But if moderate Muslims believe, like you do, that bin Laden and others are an enemy of Islam, how come there isn`t a fatwa on Osama bin Laden?

ABDULLAH: Well, Islamic Jurist Council of America two years ago issued a fatwa, or a religious decree, which is an opinion, and the mufti of al-Asar (ph) also issued a fatwa on that particular issue.

And the majority of the Muslim scholars in the world have decried and denounced that kind of act, do not accept Osama bin Laden as part of the Muslim fabric, do not identify with his ideas, and clearly feel themselves as a victim of Osama bin Laden the same way as the rest of Americans feel themselves victims.

BECK: Are American Muslims -- I`m following what`s going on in Europe, and it is -- Europe is in deep, deep trouble because many Muslims feel isolated and angry and they are intentionally isolating themselves in many cases. Are we going to see the same kind of violence and riots here as we have seen in France? What`s the difference between the communities?

ABDULLAH: No way. America is far more -- democracy is a far better - - a democratic structure than any other places that -- where you see all those kind of things. Here people have that kind of opportunity to express their ideas in a civil manner without being part of that.

BECK: But you know, they have that in England. They have that in.

ABDULLAH: Yes, but then there are social classes and, you know, the people who are part of that kind of violent behavior have been recognized as people at the lower rung of the society. Here in America we have educated community, we have people.

BECK: You.

ABDULLAH: Go ahead.

BECK: I`m sorry to cut you off, but you`ve written that there are two things that American Muslims have to do to win their faith back from "the enemies of Islam," in the words that you used. What are they?

ABDULLAH: Well, the first thing is that we have to make it absolutely clear that every human life is significant, sacred, and it must be respected regardless whether it is Jewish, Christian, Muslim, or non- Muslim. It must be respected. And it is the responsibility of Muslims to ensure that anyone who speaks in the name of Islam basically does not indulge in those kind of violent actions. That`s the first thing.

And the second thing that we have to speak more against those people. We have to open up, and we have to develop alliances with Jews and Christians in our common fight against terrorism because it is not just a fight of America, it is a fight of every Muslim as well, every Christian, and every Jew.

BECK: Dr. Abdullah, thank you, sir, for speaking out. And thanks for being on, part of the program tonight.

ABDULLAH: Thank you very much.

BECK: We`ll be back in a minute.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

BECK: We have shown you a lot of disturbing things over the last hour. But there is some hope. Our best chance for combating the extremists must come first through our honest understanding of what we`re truly facing and then from within the Muslim community itself. They need to stand up against the few that are perverting Islam and understand that if they don`t, their combination of fear and inaction will lead to our destruction and theirs.

Thankfully, many tonight have begun their journey of understanding, and many Muslims are standing up and speaking out.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

BECK (voice-over): For the last hour we`ve seen a lot of video like that. But there is good news. Many children don`t fall victim to the propaganda, and some are even willing to speak out.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Muhammad, your slogan is "children for change"?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): What change?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Change in the regime.

BECK (voice-over): He`s talking about Egyptian President Mubarak. And he`s doing it on live Egyptian television.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE (through translator): Why, Muhammad?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Because he arrests people for no reason.

BECK: Children speaking out against their own president. That is not something you see every day in the Middle East. But this former dean of Islamic law in Qatar went even further.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We have not succeeded in making our children love life.

BECK: He says that Muslims have succeeded in making the next life look so glorious that most children don`t see value in this one.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We have taught them how to die for the sake of Allah, but we haven`t taught them how to live for the sake of Allah, how to build, to be productive, create and invent for the sake of Allah.

BECK: Then there`s this Saudi journalist, who recognizes the culture of victimhood that kids are subjected to only makes things worse.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Our youth have been so incited to the point that they automatically consider any problem in China, in Bosnia, Chechnya, Nigeria, whatever, to be a conflict between Islam and the rest of the world.

BECK: Some in the Middle East, like this sheikh in the UAE, are sick and tired of those kinds of things being done in the name of their religion. He calls them criminals.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): The criminals of these times are indeed strange. They kill innocent people and boast about their killings on TV, as you all can see. And what is their pretext in the victory of Islam? By Allah, Islam will not be victorious through such barbaric and abhorrent actions, which harm Islam.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

BECK: Unfortunately, hearing those sentiments in the United States is as refreshing as it is rare. That`s it for us tonight. From New York, good night.
