Aired January 10, 2008 - 23:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

A.J. HAMMER, CO-HOST: A Pam Anderson shocker. Is she pregnant and getting divorced? I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
ANDERSON: And the shocking things Vince Vaughn says about the relationship he has with ex, Jennifer Aniston, right now. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.

HAMMER: On SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, where in the world is Britney Spears? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the shocking news that she`s fled L.A. Is she in New York? Even Mexico? Plus, what in the world is Britney thinking? Is her family going to have her committed? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is all over the latest big head spinning Britney breaking news.

Will Tomkat roar back? Tonight, for the very first time since the startling Scientology rumors, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes go public. So what about all those ridiculous, shocking claims about her baby with husband Tom? Tonight, you`ll want to be with us as SHOWBIZ TONIGHT goes looking for answers. We`re right there for Tom and Katie`s big night out.

(MUSIC)

HAMMER: Hello, I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.

ANDERSON: Hi there, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson, coming to you from Hollywood. And tonight, there are crazy stories out there about Pam Anderson. Is she really pregnant and getting divorced from her brand new husband all at the same time? I`m going to get to the bottom of that, coming up.

HAMMER: But first, tonight, in the world is Britney Spears? It`s been exactly one week since the meltdown seen and heard around the world. And now, Britney Spears has left the country. But is it for good? Yes, Britney has taken a little side trip south of the border. But even as Britney was on the move, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can now tell you there`s disturbing questions about whether her very own family could and should try to get her committed to a mental hospital.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice over): Can you believe it? It`s been a week since that big Britney breakdown that landed her in the hospital. And now, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you as Britney`s reported mental health issues continue to raise eyebrows, it appears the troubled pop star really is headed south. Actually, more like south of the border. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can confirm Britney took a quick trip to Mexico with paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, Britney`s companion of the moment.

GILLIAN SHELDON, SUPERVISING PRODUCER, "TMZ": She has also been seen with him in several other locations in Palm Desert, now in Mexico.

HAMMER: But while Britney seems to be partying it up like nothing ever happened, people close to her have not forgotten the scary breakdown and they`re considering drastic measures to get her some help.

SHELDON: There is a group of people, family members, other professionals around her, who desperately want her to get mental help and they`re willing to do it at any cost which may even mean involuntarily commitment.

HAMMER: Wow. Britney Spears committed? That would be the most shocking thing we`ve seen happen to her. And that`s saying a lot. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is asking, could that really happen? TMZ.com is reporting that Britney`s parents, especially her dad, have been trying for months to have her committed. And TMZ`s Gillian Sheldon tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT that`s the last resort option but one that`s still on the table.

SHELDON: Most people around her believe that she suffers from bipolar disorder. She has these massive manic highs and then lows. And needs psychological and psychiatric treatment. Treatment that she has of yet refused to get.

HAMMER: All you need to do is look at Britney`s impromptu head shaving, that way she blows off court orders that affect custody of her kids, her constant driving from gas station to gas station, and, oh yes, that tiny little three-hour long police standoff that ended with her getting hauled away in an ambulance. It is clear that Brit`s behavior has become even more erratic lately.

And now, her questionable new relationship with a guy who`s paid to take pictures of her isn`t exactly calming fears about her judgment.

SHELDON: No one knows exactly to the extent of what the relationship is between those two but it can`t be good. Paparazzi sells pictures, sells video. And if someone is climbing into bed with Britney, so to speak, it can`t be good for Britney and the state she is in now. She needs mental help. If he`s taking advantage of her and selling pictures of her, she may not realize what exactly that he`s doing. And I know that several people around her are very concerned about this relationship.

HAMMER: And how has Britney responded to the suggestions she get help? Well, she may not be singing "My Prerogative" but the reaction has been just as defiant. Reports say that when Dr. Phil visited Britney in the hospital after the breakdown, she blew him off. She has reportedly did the same to others who have tried to intervene. And our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT Britney panel tells us, forcing Britney to get help may be an impossible task.

LISA BLOOM, ANCHOR, TRUE TV`S "IN SESSION": They can`t get her committed unless they show she`s a danger to herself, a danger to others or gravely disabled, meaning she can`t care for herself at all. They`re not going to meet that legal standard.

KEN BAKER, WEST COAST EDITOR, "US WEEKLY": I talked to someone close to the Spears` family this morning and basically said, "Look, Ken they would like to knock on her door, take her out of that house and get her committed but they can`t do it. She`s a 26-year-old woman.

HAMMER: So it seems that for now, it is not enough that people around Britney want her to get help, she has to want it, too.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

(on camera): And since her meltdown last week, Britney has lost all visitation rights with the two boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James pending a court hearing which is supposed to take place later this month.

But here`s what I don`t get. You would think that Britney would be lying low right about now. Think about it. When most celebrities get into trouble, they disappear. Not Britney. What could possibly be going on in Britney`s mind?

Tonight in New York, joining us, clinical psychologist Dr. Judy Kuriansky. And joining from Hollywood, investigative journalist Pat Lalama. Pat, Judy, I want to first talk about this news that Britney ran off with her paparazzi friend and a guy who is reported to possibly be her boyfriend, Adnan Ghalib. They went to Mexico. Pat Lalama, let me set you off. What do you think was going through Britney`s mind?

PAT LALAMA, INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALIST: Well, you know, you say a lot of people lie low in these situations. It may have been her feeble attempt to lie low by getting the heck out of the country and going to Mexico. In her defense, she cannot escape cameras. Everyone`s got a cell phone. Anyone can take a shot. Anyone can figure out where she is.

HAMMER: So stay home!

LALAMA: Well, I think - honest to god, A.J., I think she is trying in some weird way to completely escape. She`s basically putting her fist up saying I will speak to no one who wants to do good for me.

HAMMER: I don`t know if she`s really thinking about it that much, I`ve got to say. Charles, can you put up the cover of this week`s "People" magazine? On this cover, as you see, it says "Britney`s Mental Illness." There is no question mark there. Nothing. Nobody has been confirmed that she actually in fact has a mental illness. Dr. Judy, over to you, is this trip to Mexico and her still-erratic behavior troubling?

JUDY KURIANSKY, CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST: It`s very troubling, and it`s bespeaks of the "People" magazine cover because I would to say even though I haven`t interviewed her that it is a mental illness. That, in fact, everything you have just said, A.J., is like a manic phase of a bipolar disorder.

The flight, by the way literally and figuratively, flying to New York, then down to Mexico, she`s not thinking about escaping or doing anything. She`s just going. The exposing the private parts she did before; the shaving her head; the being torn out of her house on a gurney and even the speaking in the British accent. That`s not just an actress. This is all part of impulsive, erratic behavior that is swings of mood, that`s like a manic phase. She`s not thinking about it. She`s just acting.

HAMMER: Yes. Clearly, not normal. I do need to point out she didn`t actually go to New York. That was all possibly a ruse. Pat Lalama, I want to go back to something you said, because, you know, here at SHOWBIZ TONIGHT and speaking with you, we`ve covered a lot of celebrities who have been in trouble. And most of the time what do they do as I mentioned, they stay out of sight. It seems like that would be the best modus operandi. But here`s what I don`t get. Less than a day she was released from the hospital, Britney back to hanging out with the paparazzi. Do you think she`s just dangerously addicted to all the attention she is so used to receiving?

I think she does have an addiction to that. I mean I happen to know - I have had hotel managers in Los Angeles tell me that she`ll phone ahead to say she is coming because she wants the camera attention. The problem is, is that she`s so in need of the attention she`ll take it good or bad. That`s incredibly unhealthy for her.

She doesn`t care. She just doesn`t want to be forgotten. And she is afraid if she doesn`t put herself in the public eye even warts and all, she`ll be forgotten. And look what it`s doing. It`s destroying her even further.

Where does that come from though? I mean do you think, Judy, in her mind she needs to feel all that love from the paparazzi. Because, you know, quite frankly, we don`t know what`s going on with this Adnan Ghalib she`s been hanging around with, but she doesn`t seem to be getting the love anywhere else these days.

KURIANSKY: Well, that`s very true. And A.J., look, this is a girl that grew up in front of the public and who needs the adoration of all - that`s in order to feel like she is anybody. That is what the desperation that we are seeing in her is.

And on top of that, she`s got this fear of losing herself without the attention. And she`s been betrayed by everybody in her life. And so, the only thing that`s left for her is the lights and some kind of public attention and as was said an addiction, really. Like addiction to any kind of drug is an addiction to attention.

HAMMER: And there`s question of course as to what`s going to happen next. As we mentioned in our story, reports floating around that Britney`s family has been trying to get her committed to a mental hospital and that they`re going to try again. Pat Lalama, I`ve got about 20 seconds here, do you see that happening?

LALAMA: Not in the immediate future. I don`t think that she meets the standard at this point. It could happen down the road if she gets worse.

HAMMER: Dr. Judy?

KURIANSKY: Absolutely needs residential treatment, being somewhere for at least a year. Not 24 hours.

LALAMA: Right, right, right.

HAMMER: We`ll continue to say we hope she does get the help that she needs. Dr. Judy Kuriansky, Pat Lalama, I thank you.

LALAMA: Thanks.

KURIANSKY: Thanks, A.J.

ANDERSON: And now we want to hear from you. It is our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day, "Britney goes to Mexico: Is it time for her to just hide out?" Vote at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. E-mail us at showbiztonight@CNN.com. Do it from your desktop, your laptop, even your Blackberry or your cellphone. Just tell us what is on your mind.

HAMMER: You know, Brooke, I think it might be a good plan for Britney, get a little R and R. I would avoid the tequila shots if I were her. I have more breaking Britney developments you are not going to want to miss. We have absolutely stunning pictures of her with her boys, more fallout over Dr. Phil`s visit to her in the hospital, and why she traveling all over the place with the paparazzi? I still don`t get that. Something, not kosher here. Big Britney news at 30 past the hour.

ANDERSON: And will Tomkat roar back? For the first time since those startling Scientology rumors came out, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going public. I mean, I can`t believe some of this stuff they claimed that Tom is not little Suri`s dad. We`re right there for Tom and Katie`s big night out.

HAMMER: And there we see Jennifer Aniston and we saw Vince Vaughn, and they`ve been broken up for a while. I actually thought they had a shot. Vince, one of my favorite guys in the business, and tonight he has some new shocking things to say about his relationship with Jennifer today. You won`t want to miss that. It`s coming up.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

ANDERSON: For the very first time since an explosive new unauthorized biography about Tom Cruise is released, Tom and his wife Katie Holmes come out in public. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT right there for the Hollywood premiere of Katie`s new film "Mad Money."

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m Brooke Anderson in Hollywood. Well, everybody was on pins and needles Wednesday night wondering if Tom and Katie would show up at the premiere of "Mad Money." Just this week, a wild, un-authorized biography made sensational claims about Tom, Katie and their relationship with the Church of Scientology.

With us tonight from Hollywood, CNN entertainment correspondent Kareen Wynter and Maggie Gallant, founder of Spotlight Communications. Kareen, Maggie, what a difference a year makes.

Last year, Tom and Katie were both very guarded and now we see them coming out together, hitting the town. At the premiere, Katie talked with the reporters while Tom actually went the other way, talked to fans, signed autographs. Maggie, what does this say about Tom and Katie as a couple? It seems Tom didn`t want the steal the spotlight from Katie?

MAGGIE GALLANT, FOUNDER, SPOTLIGHT COMMUNICATIONS: It is time for Katie to shine. I mean you can see the look on her face as she`s walking down the red carpet. This is the look of a determined career woman. This is not just arm candy anymore. We`re going to see big things from Katie Holmes.

ANDERSON: Yes. And there`s no question that the two seem very close. She was stunning and did seem very determined. And she really opened up about her relationship with Tom in a recent interview with "In Style" magazine. Last night, she even talked openly about Tom`s ex-wife Nicole Kidman who just revealed she`s pregnant. Katie told "People.com," quote, "I`m so happy for her," and that the news is wonderful. Kareen, what do we know about the relationship between Katie and Nicole?

KAREEN WYNTER, CNN ENTERTAINMENT CORRESPONDENT: Well, to be quite frank with you, I don`t even think there`s a relationship there. I think deep down they probably can`t stand each other, Brooke.

I mean, sure, Nicole`s expecting. Is Katie perhaps happy for her? Of course, you know, Katie is a mom herself. She`s probably thrilled, I guess, that Nicole is expecting. But look, you know, Katie is an A-list star in Hollywood. She is no longer the little actress from "Dawson`s Creek." And so, you know, she has her own thing going on on her, a lot happening in her world to even be thinking about Nicole.

ANDERSON: She certainly does. And we do know that Nicole`s children are very close to Katie because Katie has said they even call her mom. So it seems like one, big happy family maybe in terms of that. And as we mentioned before, this is the first public outing for Tom and Katie since that unauthorized biography was released.

One of the more outrageous, ridiculous claims in it is that a small sect of Scientologists believe that Suri Cruise is not Tom`s baby, rather that Katie was impregnated with the sperm of the late L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. Maggie, people just love to speculate about Tom and the Church of Scientology, don`t they?

GALLANT: They do. People tend to make fun of things that they don`t know a lot about. The rumors that are out there about the Church of Scientology really make everybody`s heads spin. I mean comparing Suri Cruise to like "Rosemary`s Baby." And, you know, Tom Cruise is on top of his game, and when you have a celebrity who`s on top of their game, they`re always going to be a target. People want to know the scandals behind the closed doors.

ANDERSON: Some of the claims were beyond ridiculous. And you know, everybody has been wondering about Katie Holmes` career when she pulled out of the "Batman" sequel. It looked like maybe she was turning into a "Stepford Wife." But now she`s starring with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton in "Mad Money." I`m actually going to see a screening of it tonight. I`m excited about that. But listen to what she told SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

KATIE HOLMES, ACTRESS: From the beginning, to the end, every day was so much fun and we got closer and closer every day. And, you know, these women are so dynamic and they`re not only amazing actresses but they`re amazing designers, amazing musicians, and so, we had so much to talk about.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Kareen, what do you think? Is this Katie`s way of saying possibly that, "Hey, I am back. I am focussed on my career"?

WYNTER: Brooke, look at the little Katie Holmes all grown up. She is no longer the little girl from "Dawson`s Creek." You know, I don`t think she cares anymore. She doesn`t have anything to prove. She`s established herself as a mega star in Hollywood and she`s going to do what she wants to do.

Does she - is she happy recognized this way? Sure. But if she wants to spend the day at Barney`s shopping with bodyguards, she is going to do it. If she wants to attend the glitzy premiere as we saw last night, she`s going to do it. It`s all about Katie and her new world now.

ANDERSON: Maggie, what do you think she is going to do going forward with her career? Because it seems like since hooked up with Tom, it really just propelled her more into the spotlight and really afforded her a lot more opportunity?

GALLANT: Well, it is great to be Tom Cruise`s girlfriend or wife. Look at Penelope Cruz and Nicole Kidman, although her career really skyrocketed the second she got divorced. So I think that Katie will have to focus on those projects, whether it be like she mentioned clothing, box office. She can star in films but we are waiting to see if she can really bring in the box office numbers. And to do that, she`s going to have to be public. She`s going to have to walk the red carpet. She`s going to have to do interviews And she`s going to have to keep people interested in her private life, too.

ANDERSON: Absolutely. I`m speaking with Katie Holmes this weekend about this film and her career. Can`t wait for that. We`ll bring it to you on Monday. Kareen Wynter and Maggie Gallant, thank you both.

ANDERSON: Brooke, looks like Tom and Katie had a fun night out. I actually like Katie`s hair a lot. Britney Spears, she might want to think about staying in some more. Tonight, new shocking Britney developments. She runs off to Mexico with a paparazzo. There`s more fallout yet from Dr. Phil`s controversial hospital visit. And some absolutely stunning pictures of Britney with her kids. Do not go anywhere. It is all coming up at 30 past the hour.

ANDERSON: Hey, I am still puzzled by Pam Anderson lately. She got married again really quickly. Then she was going to get divorced right away but changed her mind. Now there`s talk that she is pregnant. Girl, what`s going on? Also, other stars pregnant after 40.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HALLE BERRY, ACTRESS: Being a mother was the thought that I had foremost on my mind most of the time.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Halle Berry, Geena Davis, Marcia Cross, Holly Hunter - I am so proud of these women. Juggling career, family, wife and babies and they`re all over 40. Just how do they do it? I`ve got a repealing showbiz special report straight ahead.

HAMMER: I got to tell you, you can now watch SHOWBIZ TONIGHT any time at all. To do it, all you have to do is download our podcast. The thing is absolutely free. Won`t cost you one red cent. You`ll find the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT podcast on our Web site which is CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. New ones always added. You can also download the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT podcast on iTunes by typing "SHOWBIZ TONIGHT" into the search box. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT coming right back.

ANDERSON: Tonight, a shocking report that Pam Anderson is pregnant and moving forward with her divorce, again. Oh brother. What is next? "TMZ" says 40-year-old Pam is carrying hubby Rick Salomon`s baby and is going forward with her divorce from him. This is the guy she married back in October.

Rick was actually in the Paris Hilton sex tape if you remember that. Pam filed for divorce from him just two months after getting married but then said, they`re working stuff out. Now, tonight, it seems Pam is denying the baby part of the "TMZ" report. On her Web site today she simply says no. Now, we spoke with Pam just before all of this stuff came out and Pam definitely thinks it`s been harder for to have a normal relationship since the paparazzi have followed her every move.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

PAMELA ANDERSON, ACTRESS: It`s harder to be under, you know, public kind of scrutiny with your personal life, for sure. You know, it`s like being in high school and everybody knows about something. And no one knows the truth and no one knows what`s really going on. So people make judgments and say things that are hurtful.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: Great shot. That was actually in Malibu. And we asked Pam`s people about her divorce. We didn`t hear back by show time. And you can check out Pam`s movie, by the way, at "blondandblonderthemovie.com."

HAMMER: OK. Think about it; sometimes Britney Spears is a blond, sometimes, of course, she`s a brunette. And then, unfortunately, sometimes she has been bald. Unfortunately, her behavior has been just like her hair. It`s all over the place.

Well, tonight, we have plenty of shocking Britney news. Now, she`s reportedly run off to Mexico with a paparazzo. There`s plenty more of fallout from Dr. Phil`s controversial visit with her in the hospital, and the absolutely stunning new pictures of Britney and her kids. All this, a whole lot more big Britney news coming up next.

Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Aniston, you know, they have been broken up for a while. I really thought they had a shot. Anyway, tonight, Vince has new jaw dropping things to say about his relationship with Jen today. That`s coming up. Also this -

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

Tonight, a showbiz special report "Pregnant After 40."

(MUSIC)

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.

ANDERSON: And I`m Brooke Anderson coming to you tonight from Hollywood. This is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show.

HAMMER: Well, tonight, another whirlwind day of big Britney news that is making us shake our heads so much. I`ve got to tell you I got a little headache setting in. New startling new pictures have come in of Britney with the two young boys and who she is no longer even allowed to see.

There are also dramatic new developments in that Dr. Phil fallout after, of course, he went to see Britney in the hospital. You`ve got to wait until you hear what SHOWBIZ TONIGHT viewers have to say. It is pretty astounding.

Also SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you that her constant companion, it`s not her sister, it`s not her mom. It is actually her new so-called boyfriend, a paparazzo who used to shoot pictures of her everywhere she went. Wait until you hear where they went.

Joining me tonight from Hollywood, investigative journalist Pat Lalama; Carlos Diaz, correspondent for "Extra"; also in Hollywood tonight, Kim Serafin, senior editor for "In Touch Weekly." Gang, as always, I appreciate you all being a part of the program.

Keep everything in perspective now. By remembering the fact that it was just a week ago today that Britney had a big three-hour police standoff. And then for all the world to see, she was carted off in a stretcher. She was tied down and admitted involuntarily into the hospital.

Today, we get news that she and this guy that may or may not be her boyfriend, but she`s spending a lot of time with him. They took this trip to Mexico. Pat Lalama, are you just shaking your head about all that`s going on, as well?

LALAMA: Listen, A.J. I figured it all out. I have deemed us all, we here, Carlos especially, certifiably insane for trying to make sense out of this woman. We can`t keep up. There is absolutely no logic to what she`s doing for us to try to explain it. It`s sheer madness.

HAMMER: Carlos Diaz, you know, last week when the news broke about her going to the hospital in that very bizarre scene that we all saw, we were saying that it was shocking yet not surprising. Do you kind of feel the same way today with this little trip to Mexico?

CARLOS DIAZ, "EXTRA" CORRESPONDENT: Nothing shocking with Britney. I think what we`ve learned in this last week is that nothing`s going to change with Britney. I got a chance to sit down this last week with Britney`s old bodyguard, Tony Barretto, and he said that basically with Britney, it`s one day is great, the next day is terrible. You never know what you`re going to get and he said it himself, we will never change Britney.

ANDERSON: That is got to be the truth. Kim Serafin, what do you make of this news of the big trip down to Mexico?

KIM SERAFIN, SENIOR EDITOR, "IN TOUCH WEEKLY": Well, you know, you`ve got to remember, she is going down there with this photographer, this paparazzo who is apparently her new boyfriend according to reports. And it kind of makes sense because the photographers are her only sort of constant - her only true friends at least the way she perceives it.

I mean they are the guys that there to fix the flat tire when she gets a flat tire and her car breaks down. They give her a ride. They`re always telling her, "Oh you look beautiful, Britney. Pose for another picture." They even pay for the lighter that she steals at the gas station.

I mean it kind of makes sense that these are the people that she would be attracted to and drawn to because everyone else in her life is not around her and pushes them out of her life. The press, the photographers, they are always there.

HAMMER: Yes. I don`t know if we should be taking solace in the fact that these are the guys she, in fact, is relying on them for attention, camaraderie, for - I don`t know - love maybe.

I`ve got to tell you, this new issue of "OK" magazine that came in with these startling pictures. When I saw it, I could hardly believe my eyes. I mean, look at this. Given what we just saw a week ago, this is all very strange. We`re seeing Britney posing with her two boys as if nothing at all is wrong.

The photographer who sold the pictures to "OK" magazine had nothing but nice things to say about Britney -things like she was a model mom, she was very loving when the pictures were taken, very attentive to the kids` needs. Pat, it does seem to fly in the face of everything we know and have seen over the last week.

LALAMA: A.J., I don`t think it does, and here`s why. I don`t think anyone thinks she`s evil or bad or planning how she`s going to harm her children. We don`t know what her diagnosis is. We like to throw around schizophrenia, manic depression, bipolar. We just don`t know.

The fact of the matter is, whatever conditions it is, there are times when she can be lucid, when she can appear normal. And that day she may have said, "Today I can pull it together enough to put on a good front and show people that I`m not a bad person." But just a feeling of - trust me. I`ve had personal experience with people who are bipolar. Within seconds, it can all change. That may have been her moment of lucidness. But it no way means that she is doing well. She needs long-term care, A.J.

HAMMER: You know, I think you make a good point, Pat, there have to be, obviously, moments of clarity. You know, she has worked, in fact, over the past six months.

LALAMA: Exactly.

HAMMER: Carlos, let me go back to the bodyguard. You said you have a chance to sit down with Tony Barretto. This is the guy - if you remember, he made big news when he went to court with all of those allegations of Britney`s drug use among other things. You said that she was so unpredictable. What else did he tell you that really surprised you or perhaps didn`t surprise you in this case?

DIAZ: Well, the one thing that he told me that is a point we have not talked about yet, and this is the point that needs to be very seriously taken into account. Britney Spears currently has no security team protecting her. And that is what the security guard Tony Barretto, a former security advisor, basically wanted to say.

He has never seen a star of Britney`s magnitude flat out saying, "I don`t want security." He said currently, the paparazzi are Britney`s security team. And forget about saving Britney from Britney. What about the people who could harm Britney on the streets and there`s no one to protect her?

HAMMER: Yes. You know, that`s a really scary thought. Man, now that we`re putting it out on national television, I hope she takes care of that soon. Well, we know certainly somebody that did try to reach out to Britney and give her the help she needs in the hospital, Dr. Phil. The family did invite the guy, but now we have this family spokesperson who came out accusing Dr. Phil of trying to exploit the situation.

And you`ve got to look at this, an overwhelming response came in for our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. We asked if viewers thought Dr. Phil tried to exploit Britney`s family. And as you see, 73 percent of the people who responded said yes; 27 percent no.

We also got some of those in the E-mails we received. A lot of them came. I want to read them real quick. Stephen from Virginia wrote us that he doesn`t agree. He says, "Give me a break! It would seem more plausible that Ms. Spears family is the one going for total exploitation."

But Anne from Arizona E-mailed us that, "Dr. Phil desperately wants to be God. Of course he wanted to self aggrandize and capture the spotlight."

I`m not up to the (UNINTELLIGIBLE) yet today. Pat Lalama, where do you come in with this?

LALAMA: I`ll say they`re all exploiters. Look, here`s the point. There`s no doubt Dr. Phil took it to I think an unethical standard. I`ll say it here and now and I will not take it back.

But this is also a family incredibly naive about how to cope with their daughter. This is the same family as Kim mentioned that did a deal with "OK" magazine because the younger one is pregnant. What they do need to do is keep all media - unfortunately for us, I`m saying keep the media out of this.

Private doctors, private hospitals. Close family and friends. Everybody else go away.

HAMMER: Yes.

LALAMA: This needs privacy.

HAMMER: I have been saying that all along. Pat Lalama, Carlos Diaz, Kim Serafin, we`ve got to wrap it there. I thank you for being here tonight.

LALAMA: OK. Thank you.

HAMMER: All right. We`re going to move on to Vince Vaughn`s startling revelations about his relationship with Jennifer Aniston. Wait until you hear this. Now, this is a couple that I always thought would last but wait until you hear what Vince said about how they get along right now. They`ve been broken up for a while. That is coming up.

ANDERSON: Also Halle Berry says she wants to stay pregnant forever. I think she looks incredibly beautiful. But she also says there is one thing about being pregnant that she doesn`t like. That`s straight ahead.

HAMMER: And Halle Berry, Nicole Kidman, just two Hollywood A-listers who are pregnant after 40. So why are so many Hollywood stars waiting until later in life to expand their families? That is coming up next in the showbiz special report you won`t want to miss, "Pregnant After 40."

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Make no mistake about it, this is TV`s most provocative entertainment news show. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York City.

Well, the lovely Halle Berry expecting a baby. We`re all very excited for her, and she says she wants to stay pregnant forever. Look at the stunning pictures of Halle from "In Style" magazine. Beautiful. She says all the pregnancy hormones are making her skin glow. She loves the fact that she can wear less makeup now.

And Halle is due in March. She says the second trimester gave her so much joy and energy it made her feel like a whole new woman. So with just a couple of months to go, Halle is getting everything ready with the nursery, using old-fashioned wooden toys, organic chemical free clothing.

But there is one big way that she and her boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry, haven`t prepared. Halle says, quote, "People are saying, `You mean you haven`t picked out a name yet?` But I don`t know how you pick out a baby name until you meet it."

For more with Halle Berry, pick up a copy of "In Style" magazine on newsstands Friday.

ANDERSON: Well, there`s one thing Halle Berry says she doesn`t like about being pregnant. Because she`s 41, the technical term is geriatric pregnancy. And she says she cringes when she hears that. She wants it off her medical chart.

But Halle is in incredible company. Nicole Kidman is 40 and she and Keith Urban are expecting their first child together. And there are plenty of other stars becoming moms after 40. These stars are expanding the families later in life and still rocking that red carpet.

But what about the risks? And do their stories send the message that it`s easy to conceive later in life? It`s a showbiz special report, "Pregnant After 40."

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

(voice over): Geena Davis, 48 years old. Marcia Cross, 44. Holly Hunter, 47. Just some of the faces of motherhood in Hollywood, and SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you they`re also proud members of an elite club. They all got pregnant after turning 40. And they`re not alone. Add to the list, Salma Hayek, 40. Julianne Moore, 41. Halle Berry, also 41.

BERRY: I was meant to be a mother.

ANDERSON: Berry tells SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, having a baby was all she could think about.

BERRY: Being a mother was the thought that I had foremost on my mind most of the time. How would I make motherhood manifest? I had someone wonderful in my life and we`re talking about it all the time and just waiting and hoping it would happen.

MARCIA CROSS, "DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES" STAR: This is a little sudden, isn`t it?

ANDERSON: It also happened for "Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross. She had twins at 44.

ELLEN DEGENERES, HOST, "THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW": So you are having twins?

CROSS: I`m having twins.

DEGENERES: Wow.

(CHEERS)

ANDERSON: It was girls for Cross, and boys for "Saving Grace" star Holly Hunter. Hunter`s twins arrived when she was 47.

HOLLY HUNTER, "SAVING GRACE" STAR: Nothing you say can surprise me.

ANDERSON: She is not surprised and neither is OB-GYN Dr. Lisa Masterson.

DR. LISA MASTERSON, OBSTETRICIAN-GYNECOLOGIST: Celebrities are actually reflecting the new face of the moms today. Women are, you know, not putting their lives on hold to have kids. They`re living their lives. They`re pursuing their careers. And then they`re deciding to have kids later on.

ANDERSON: But SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has to ask, isn`t that risky?

MASTERSON: Women do have to realize that, yes, even with fertility treatments, you still may not get pregnant. So there are definitely, you know, risks to waiting later on in life to having kids. So, it`s not all a fairy tale. There are, you know, there`s obviously an increased risk of miscarriages. So having a baby is a very difficult thing. It can get more difficult as you get older. It doesn`t mean it can`t happen, but it`s definitely not just a fairy tale.

ANDERSON: Not a fairy tale at all because it has come true for so many of Hollywood`s leading ladies and featured regularly in magazines like "More." Barbara O`Dair is "More`s" executive director.

BARBARA O`DAIR, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, "MORE" MAGAZINE: Many of the stars we`ve put on our covers have had babies in their 40s - Holly Hunter, Angela Basset - the list goes on and on. And you can have Diane Keaton who adopted children in her 50s. These are a special breed who are especially tireless.

I think stars are choosing to have babies after 40 because their jobs are so demanding in their 20s and 30s. They`ve got to look perfect all the time. They`ve got to be ready to jump on a plane and shoot somewhere all the time. And babies have just not in the picture for them. Then, of course, they hit 40 and they think, "Oops, I forgot something."

Former "Commander In Chief" star Genna Davis says she didn`t forget; she was just waiting until the time was right. And the right time came well into her 40s. She has three kids including twins who were born when Davis was 48.

GEENA DAVIS, FORMER, "COMMANDER IN CHIEF" STAR: It`s completely unfair if anyone want to use me as an example because, you know, we`re all ridiculously overpaid anyway in this business. So, I can afford plenty of child care and actors are just indulged. My kids came ever day to the set and destroyed the oval and what are they going to say? It`s Geena`s kids.

O`DAIR: I think stars do have the money and the means to have babies after 40. If they`re not up to raising a child 24/7, they have people they can hire who could do that for them or at least help them.

ANDERSON: Celebrity moms like Geena, Holly and Halle may have the perks but all the money in the world doesn`t guarantee an easy road. Halle Berry, for one, didn`t sugar coat her tough road to pregnancy and experts say that`s a good message.

MASTERSON: I think Halle Berry`s story is fabulous. She talks about her diabetes and, you know, how her medical complications and about difficulty getting pregnant. And this tells women that, you know, you really have to take pregnancy seriously. You really have to take care of your body. You really have to follow up with your doctor`s appointments and it is work. But it`s also something to be cherished.

ANDERSON: These over 40 stars are not only cherishing motherhood in some ways. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you they`re actually better prepared for it than their 20-something counterparts.

MASTERSON: These women also know their bodies a lot better than younger women. And they feel more comfortable with their bodies. So, I think the emotional stability really, really helps in having a great pregnancy. They should be applauded. They are inspirations that you can pursue your career, you can know who you are as a woman and then you can have your family. And you are going to probably be a much better parent.

ANDERSON: After all, having the baby is just the start. The real challenge, raising kids in Hollywood. Especially when you`re over 40.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

(on camera): And Halle Berry is certainly going to have her hands full when she has her baby. She tells "In Style" magazine she is not going to hire a full-time nanny. She said she wants to be as hands on as possible just like her own mother.

HAMMER: Well, it looks like life is coming full circle for Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer starred on "Friends" of course and they both starred together in "The Break-Up." Then they dated and then they broke up. But now, they`re friends, which is nice to hear.

Vince says he and Jen have done something you really don`t see often. He tells "Parade" magazine that they have a great post-break-up relationship. Vince says that he still talks to her instantly and has a genuine connection with her, a real appreciation that continues to this day.

He says it all boils down to something very simple. Quote, "In regular life, people date and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn`t. We get more attention because we`re more known."

For more with Vince Vaughn, check out your newspaper this Sunday for "Parade" magazine.

ANDERSON: OK. I want you to picture this for a minute. Adam Sandler as an Israeli commando. That`s what he`s playing in the new film. But don`t worry, it`s a comedy. The particular commando has a lifelong dream of being a hairdresser. We have your first look at "You Don`t Mess With the Zohan," next.

HAMMER: First, a look at what`s new at the movies this week brought to you by Bisquick Shake and Pour. Opening in wide release on Friday, Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freedman in "The Bucket List." It`s about two charming old cancer patients who decide to leave the hospital and do everything that they wanted to do before they die.

Also, opening on Friday, "First Sunday." This is a comedy about a plan to rob a neighborhood church. It stars Ice Cube and funny man Tracy Morgan.

And Jason Statham and Ray Liotta in the action fantasy, "In The Name Of The King," a dungeon siege tale. And that is what`s new at the movies this week, brought to you by Bisquick Shake and Pour. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT coming right back.
