And did you see this? A gorgeous mega star send out this toothless photo on Twitter from the dentist`s office. Huh?
TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: Hello. I`m A.J. Hammer broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City. And tonight, a night of confessions from Brooke Shields on sex to Mel Gibson on pregnancy.
But first, Jon and Kate`s brand new confession about their marriage, about whether Jon cheated on Kate. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is bringing you the explosive fall-out today after the wild and disturbing season premier of "Jon and Kate Plus Eight."
But wait, there is more. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT has got to ask, is there going to be a spin-off series perhaps called "Jon and Kate`s Divorce Court"? And what about their eight children being exposed to their parents, putting their messy lives out there as part of their once harmless reality show?
SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, this is all making big news right now.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What`s the status of where you guys are right now?
KATE GOSSELIN, "JON & KATE PLUS 8": I wish I knew.
HAMMER (voice-over): It was gut wrenching to watch.
K. GOSSELIN: Very swiftly, we turn into two different people. And it`s just hard.
HAMMER: Jon and Kate Gosselin, stars of "Jon & Kate Plus 8," barely appearing together on camera and barely looking at each other when they did. Dissecting their troubled marriage in their show`s season premier.
JON GOSSELIN, "JON & KATE PLUS 8": Kate and I, obviously, have been going through a lot of stuff.
K. GOSSELIN: I have a lot of anger. This is not where we were supposed to be.
HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you, this is no longer a show about an attractive young couple raising their eight adorable children.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re doing fine.
HAMMER: Now it`s become a sad spectacle of a marriage that appears to be unraveling before our very eyes.
K. GOSSELIN: I remember thinking, this possibly could be maybe, I don`t know, our last family picture?
KIM SERAFIN, INTOUCH WEEKLY: It looks pretty bleak. It doesn`t look like maybe they will be a family for so much longer.
HAMMER: The season premier of " Jon & Kate Plus 8" featured the fifth birthday of six of the couple`s eight children.
K. GOSSELIN: Now blow. Everybody blow.
HAMMER: And for the first time, the couple talked about all the scandalous tabloid charges we`ve been reading about them.
JO PIAZZA, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: In the past few months, it`s been revealed that Jon has been going out without Kate. And he`s been snapped with a 23-year-old local teacher. And there`s some allegations that he`s been having an affair. She`s been on the road promoting her book and there`s allegations that she`s been getting inseparable from her bodyguard.
HAMMER: Jon angrily denied his cheating scandal.
J. GOSSELIN: I never cheated on Kate and I don`t care who believes me. I know what I know.
HAMMER: And Kate even more angrily denied the accusations against her.
K. GOSSELIN: I`ll be darned if they`re going to take me down with that. I mean just the allegations make me furious.
HAMMER: But one thing this couple does seem to agree on, their marriage is in trouble.
K. GOSSELIN: Parents of multiples have like triple the divorce rate. I`m thinking, we were going to beat that. But I don`t know if I can say that anymore.
J. GOSSELIN: Regardless of a relationship, I just -- I have to make a plan and decide, you know, jointly what we`re going to do.
PIAZZA: They`re talking like this marriage is already over. They weren`t talking like a couple that`s going to go therapy, like a couple that`s going to work it out. They`re talking like, yep, this is the end of the road. This is -- let`s fell (ph) for Jon and Kate.
HAMMER: The strain doesn`t appear to be hurting the show. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you almost 10 million viewers watched the season premier of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" which is already TLC`s most popular show.
K. GOSSELIN: I don`t let them say the word paparazzi like I make them call them P people.
HAMMER: But often in reality shows where the word reality is used loosely.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Keith is such a hypocrite.
HAMMER: Spencer and Heidi, we`re looking at you. There`s the question, is all this Jon and Kate angst real? Some have their doubts.
PIAZZA: And you felt like you`re a part of being played for a publicity rating stunt. The next step is that they`re going to go on Dr. Phil or a whole new show. "Jon & Kate and Couple`s Therapy."
HAMMER: Others disagree.
SERAFIN: I think that`s a cynical view. I mean I think you can see just from that episode, there clearly are problems in their relationship.
HAMMER: But as the problems of this celebrity couple play out in the tabloids and on TV, we`re getting a look at the most disturbing kind of reality. That of a family in crisis.
J. GOSSELIN: Did you miss me? Don`t cry.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Daddy, I don`t want you to leave anymore.
PIAZZA: The sad thing is there are these eight kids. These adorable eight kids involved. So it does feel a little icky, a little gut wrenching to watch this marriage fall apart on national television.
SERAFIN: I think everyone wants to see this come to a happy end.
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: You know, lately, it seem nothing gets people more fired up than Jon and Kate. Well, tonight we are tackling the burning question, who do you believe in the cheating scandal? What about the kids? And will Jon and Kate`s marriage possibly survive all the stress?
That`s coming up right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Now over to you for our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. Here`s what we`re asking. "Jon & Kate`s" new season, will the their marriage survive? You can vote at CNN.com/showbiztonight. You can also e-mail us at showbiztonight@CNN.com.
Tonight some of Hollywood`s biggest gay stars rocked by a dramatic ruling today on gay marriage. The California Supreme Court today upheld the state`s ban on gay marriage, dealing a stunning blow to some of Hollywood`s biggest stars, including Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi who got married before the ban went into effect.
Well, joining me tonight from Hollywood, Howard Bragman. Howard got married to his partner when gay marriage was legal. He`s also the founder of 15 Minutes Public Relations and author of the incredible book, "Where`s My 15 Minutes?"
In New York tonight, Midwin Charles. She heads up the law firm, Midwin Charles and Associates.
And I want to begin by rolling out the SHOWBIZ news line on the gay marriage battle. First, May 2008 the California Supreme Court makes same- sex marriage legal. November 2008, Proposition 8 bans gay marriage after its narrow victory as a ballot issue.
And today, the California Supreme Court upholds Proposition 8 but says gays who did get married when it was legal can stay married.
And Howard, I want to begin with you. I would imagine that stars like Ellen DeGeneres who is so proud to get married to Portia de Rossi have to be crushed by this ruling today, even though your status can stay intact.
HOWARD BRAGMAN, 15 MINUTES PUBLIC RELATIONS: Absolutely. I mean we all want equality. But the good thing is that Ellen and Portia and my husband and I can show the world that the sky is not falling in because we got married.
As you know, A.J., the problems of this world are not caused by love and commitment. There`s lots of problems and this isn`t what`s causing them. In fact, love and commitment may help solve a lot of the problem in the world and we need to teach people that.
HAMMER: Yes, the whole thing just seems a little baffling. We`ve heard from many stars, Melissa Etheridge among them. Now Melissa is not legally married. She did have a marriage ceremony with her partner. That was back in 2003.
Needless to say, Melissa also outraged about today`s ruling. Let me tell you what she is telling SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. This is a powerful quote. "Those full of hate and fear will surely be disappointed that 18,000 same-sex couples will be living in wedded bliss, kissing their spouses goodnight.
"Then there are those of us like me who still dangle in domestic partnership. How do I explain this to my children? `Well, you know, Ellen, she is married but mommy and I are not.` That is liberty and justice for all?"
What do you think, Midwin Charles? Could you see star couples like Ellen and Portia maybe doing something drastic? And, I don`t know, getting a divorce to make a statement saying, you know, if others can`t be married, they don`t want to be married either?
MIDWIN CHARLES, ATTORNEY: Well, I think this is a great opportunity for stars to play an important role in an issue that impacts them. And it`s an issue that it`s on television for everyone to see. But I`ve got to say, it`s a travesty for California. California has often been at the forefront of issues.
In 1948, California was the first state to outlaw a ban on interracial marriages. And I`ve got to say this is really a step backwards.
HAMMER: I`ll tell about another star we`re hearing, from "Sex in the City`s" Cynthia Nixon. She also called today a dark day. Demi Moore said she was deeply saddened. The already fired up gay marriage debate was even hotter thanks to the gasoline tossed on it after this woman, Miss California, was asked about her position on it at the Miss USA pageant.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
CARRIE PREJEAN, MISS CALIFORNIA: We live in a land that you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. And you know what? In my country, and in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Now some say Miss California lost the Miss USA crown because of her answer and she really became a lightning rod as we saw from both sides of the issue.
Howard, do you think Carrie Prejean is off somewhere saying, told you so, to all of her critics? Maybe feeling a little vindicated today?
BRAGMAN: You know, I hope not. I hope nobody is feeling any sense of anything today but a sense that we need to come together. Both sides of this issue need to find some common ground.
I take a lot of comfort in the fact that in my lifetime, and certainly in the next five to 10 years, we will have gay marriage throughout the country. It will be legal. But we`re only going to do that, A.J., if we build bridges and educate people that our relationships are not only not threatening to theirs, they`re great for society as a whole to bring people together.
And I want to reach out to people today. I don`t want to bash people today. I want mutual understanding.
HAMMER: Howard Bragman, Midwin Charles, thank you both. I appreciate it.
CHARLES: Thank you.
HAMMER: All right. As we move on, did you see this? I know you can`t tell from this picture I want to show you but it is one of the most beautiful A-list stars out there. For some reason, and I don`t know why, she decided to send out a picture of herself through Twitter at the dentist toothless.
I know you want to find out who it is and you will, coming up.
Also tonight, Brooke Shields` explosive interview. Brooke`s stunning revelation about losing her virginity and the connection her virginity had to her battle with body image and weight.
And hot 40 something women who go after younger men. Some people call them cougars. There you go. Tonight there is a fired up debate over the brand new show about cougars starring Courtney Cox.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
LINDA KAPLAN THALER, BRANDING EXPERT: I`d like to see the word cougar be reserved for wild animal and cars.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: So is the word offensive or no big deal? The cougar showdown coming up next on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now the SHOWBIZ News Ticker, more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.
GRAPHICS: Natalie Cole released from hospital after kidney transplant.
GRAPHICS: Bravo announces it`s working on new series: "The Real Housewives of D.C."
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer.
Tonight a brand new cougar controversy. I`m talking about the term use to describe 40 something women who are on the prowl for much younger men. There`s actually a new ABC show out this fall. It`s called "Cougar Town."
It`s all about the cougar effect and it stars Courtney Cox. Some are cheering it saying it empowers women. Others hate the word cougar and think it`s degrading.
Here`s CNN`s Carol Costello for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with a fired up cougar controversy.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
CAROL COSTELLO, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Our pop culture has gone cougar crazy. From skits on "Saturday Night Live," to Web sites like CougarDate.com. It defines cougars as women in their 40s who smoke, drink and go clubs to pick up young men in their 20s.
COURTNEY COX, ACTRESS, "COUGAR TOWN": What the hell is that?
COSTELLO: That definition so defines ABC`s new show, "Cougar Town."
COX: Do you like crackers with peanut butter on them?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I hope it`s not too forward coming over here.
COX: This isn`t really how I roll, OK? So -- holy crap.
COSTELLO: There are some who`ll say this kind of thing, this cougar craze, is liberating.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The emotion comes with maturity. A younger man does have that. (INAUDIBLE), you probably had it, done that. As I`m older, he is older than me. Six years older. I`ll just trade him in for a new model. A younger version. Why not?
COSTELLO: Hey, it worked for Demi Moore. Except Moore has a real relationship. Some say the type of cougarism in reality shows like "The Cougar" is predatory and desperate.
As Rebecca Traister writes on Salon.com, is it possible that women who embrace the term cougar don`t know they`re being laughed at?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: After I bought him an Oreo McFlurry, he told me he was 21 and I took him home. Previously the guy told me he was 12 1/2.
THALER: I`d like to see the word cougar be reserved for wild animal and cars.
COSTELLO: Linda Kaplan Thaler says maybe it`s time women demanded the term cougar be changed to sophisti-cat. That way May-December romances will become accepted for what they ought to be -- loving relationships.
ABC, are you listening?
(END VIDEOTAPE)
HAMMER: That was CNN`s Carol Costello for our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
While our SHOWBIZ On-call operators, they have been working like lions and tigers and bears, oh, my. We`re getting a jungle full of calls in to SHOWBIZ On-Call all about "Jon and Kate Plus 8." Should they take the show off the air?
We got a call on the SHOWBIZ On-Call from May in Canada who says, "Pull the plug."
MAY, CALLING FROM CANADA: Not once have I heard Kate that say she has faith and that she believes in her husband. I heard this morning that she`s angry, that Jon makes foolish decision. I just can`t believe it. It`s absolutely ridiculous. The show should go off the air.
HAMMER: Thanks a lot, May. We also heard from Nellie calling in to SHOWBIZ On-Call from Illinois. And Nellie says, "If you can`t take the heat, get out of the reality show kitchen."
NELLIE, CALLING FROM ILLINOIS: Well, you can`t have it both ways, Kate. You can`t get all the money by being on TV without having the paparazzi take the pictures and be interested in your family. So if you don`t want to have the pictures taken, get out of the limelight. And support your children the old fashioned way. By good hard work, you and Jon.
HAMMER: All right, Nellie, we appreciate your calls. Well, we`d like to you call us at SHOWBIZ On-Call to let us know what you think about this or anything at all. That`s why the SHOWBIZ On-Call phone lines are open all the time for your convenience. The numbers 1-888-SBT-BUZZ, 1-888-728-2899.
Well, I`ve got to tell you, I watched the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" season premier. All I can say is wow. Yes, they went there. Talking about everything. The marital problems, the cheating controversy.
But coming up, we have still got these burning questions. Is Jon`s apology enough? What about the eight kids? How is all of this affecting them? Plus the big burning question, will Jon and Kate`s marriage possibly survive?
Also, Mel Gibson`s unbelievable confession on whether his girlfriend is pregnant. And the shocking place Mel chooses to reveal the news. Remember, Mel is going through a divorce. So what will this do for Mel`s image?
Also this.
Get ready for some serious singing tonight. I`m playing Susan`s brand new heart stopping performance right here.
Now the SHOWBIZ News Ticker. More stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom, making news right now.
GRAPHICS: Bob Dylan is the oldest artist to have a #1 album in the U.K. He`s 68.
GRAPHICS: Bruce Springsteen to be final music act at N.J.`s Giants Stadium before demolition.
HAMMER: It`s time now for "Hollywood at Home" where the stars reveal the secrets of how they juggle their careers while trying to have a normal home life. Tonight it`s Ali Larter and when Ali`s not playing multiple personalities on NBC`s "Heroes" or a woman stalking her co-worker on "Obsessed," she just likes to hang out in the kitchen.
Take a listen.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
ALI LARTER, ACTRESS: Saturday for me is always going hiking with my dogs. I love to do that. I love to get out in nature. It slows things down. I`m -- the world that I`m in, it`s so fast phased.
There`s always so much pressure, so much going on, that I really like to ground my life whenever I can. Like go to the farmer`s market and I love to cook. Cooking is one of, you know, my greatest joys. So I`d probably be making dinner, open a nice (INAUDIBLE) on the deck of my fiance, and just relax.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Ali and her fiance, actor Hayes MacArthur got engaged in December 2007. It`s the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
ANNOUNCER: "Hollywood at Home" brought to you by.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
HAMMER: Hey, did you see this? It`s a bunch of real hotdogs. The first ever Hawaiian wiener dog derby in Honolulu. The winner a dog named Blaze. Really. Blaze blazed to victory. But let me be frank. As far as I`m concerned, there were no losers in this Dachshund dash. I mean, come on. They`re in Hawaii after all.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I am A.J. Hammer with some more stories that are making news right now. Tonight, it is the "SHOWBIZ I`m Sorry Edition." The stars who are apologizing for the outrageous thing that they`ve said and done.
Let`s get it rolling. Kiefer Sutherland has said "I am sorry" to the guy he allegedly headbutted at a New York nightclub earlier this month. Kiefer His making nice really increases the chances that New York City`s D.A.`s office will push for the court to drop the case.
On "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," Kiefer said he knows he was being a butthead with his alleged headbutt.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
KIEFER SUTHERLAND, ACTOR: It`s something that I really regret having happened.
JIMMY FALLON, HOST, "LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON": Yes.
SUTHERLAND: And until it`s finally resolved, I really can`t talk about it.
FALLON: Do you think that you`re Jack Bauer?
SUTHERLAND: Absolutely not. Absolutely not.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: "So You Think You Can Dance" judge Nigel Lythgoe is doing the unserious (ph) samba. Nigel is apologizing for his comments about a male duo`s dance routine.
He said the two alienated a lot of the audience because they danced in each other`s arms. Nigel also ripped into the guys on his Twitter page calling their routine, quote, "Brokeback Ballroom."
Well, glad it was (INAUDIBLE) all set to take on FOX and Nigel but both the show and he apologized so it`s all good now.
And Clay Aiken saying "I`m sorry" for slamming "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert. Clay, of course, was a runner-up himself in the second season of the show and he went off on Lambert on his members-only blog. Clay said that when he heard Adam do his version of Johnny Cash`s "Ring of Fire," Aiken`s ears ached. He even said he thought they would bleed.
And more fun Clay words about Adam`s song, awful, slightly frightening. But now Clay is saying "I`m sorry," sort of, in another pose. Clay says he didn`t mean to slam Adam as a person with his, quote, "colorful criticism."
My question is, who knew that Clay Aiken had a members-only blog?
Well, Jon from "Jon & Kate Plus 8" says I`m sorry. But will it possibly be enough? Now the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT line up. Here`s what`s coming up at the bottom of the how on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.
Tonight, brand new burning Jon and Kate questions. Will Jon`s apology over the cheating controversy work? And what about their kids? And will Jon and Kate`s marriage survive?
Mel Gibson`s unbelievable news. Is his girlfriend pregnant? And where Mel decided to reveal the information on national television is mind-boggling.
And the beautiful star sent out this picture through Twitter at the dentist with her tooth missing. For real? Yes. I`ll tell you who it is.
This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
Now to SHOWBIZ News Ticker, more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.
GRAPHICS: Billy Joel`s former drummer, Liberty DeVitto, files lawsuit over royalties.
GRAPHICS: A new film version of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be in the works.
(COMMERCIAL BREAK)
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: Kate and I obviously have been going through a lot of stuff. And discussing what`s best for our kids. What we said in the beginning, it`s a crazy life but it`s our life. And so true.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Now on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, brand new burning questions about "Jon & Kate Plus 8." Jon apologizes but does Kate believe him and will their marriage survive?
The toothless Hollywood bomb shell who Twitters. Tonight the unbelievable story behind that gap in this movie star`s famous mouth.
And Mel Gibson`s brand new baby news. His girlfriend, pregnant. Is this good news or bad news for Mel`s image?
Plus more stories breaking from the SHOWBIZ News Ticker. TV`s most provocative entertainment news show continues right now.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It`s 30 minutes past the hour. I`m A.J. Hammer broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.
Tonight, "Jon & Kate." The burning questions. For the very first time since their alleged cheating scandals unfolded. We finally got to see them together in the brand new season premier of their show, "Jon & Kate Plus 8" and I`ve got to tell you, it was chalk full of stress, tension, tears and more. And it`s raising a whole slew of new burning questions that are making big news right now.
New tonight Is Jon really cheating on Kate? Is Kate cheating on Jon? The rumors have been flying and now Jon apologizes for his actions. But is his apology enough?
Also the premier gives as a brand new glimpse into Jon and Kate`s tense, strained marriage. Is there any way their marriage can be saved?
Plus, what about the kids? SHOWBIZ TONIGHT wants to know how are the kids dealing with all of the daddy and mama drama?
Joining me tonight in Hollywood is Scott Sternberg. Scott is a reality TV show producer. And in New York tonight, Bethenny Frankel. You recognize her. She`s a reality show star herself in "The Real Housewives of New York City" and author of this fantastic "New York Times" bestseller, "Naturally Thin."
All right. I have said all along that this season premier of "Jon & Kate Plus 8" was going to have huge blockbuster ratings and in fact it was the highest rated show ever on TLC. In fact reportedly nearly 10 million people checked this thing out. Probably because everybody wants to know if all of the tabloids were right.
Was Jon really cheating on Kate with a 23-year-old schoolteacher? Well, on the brand new premier, Jon put those rumors to rest. Take a look at this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
J. GOSSELIN: People might say I brought it. Fine. Let them say I brought it upon myself. But that was just me and my personality. And me doing nothing but being innocent and hanging out. I never cheated on Kate. And you know, that`s the way it is. I don`t care who believes me.
K. GOSSELIN: And I think the thing that makes me the maddest is that, you know, Jon made some mistakes and he was out and whatever. And OK, so that makes people question him. I`m doing what I`m supposed to be doing. And I`ll be darned if they`re going to take me down with that.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. That fires up our first burning question of the night.
And Bethenny, it goes to you. What do you think? Does Kate really believe Jon`s affair denial?
BETHENNY FRANKEL, "THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF NEW YORK": I think it`s a mix bag. I think they`re actually ordinary people in beyond extraordinary circumstances. And I think that she has to experience this with America. So I think that she definitely thinks he cheated but doesn`t really want to go through all of it with every one.
I think that they`ve aired so much of their dirty laundry. Their life is a bunch of dirty laundry and I think that she has no place to work it through with him because we`re all watching. And he`s -- he seems so defeated and complacent. And just like the life has been sucked out of him.
HAMMER: Yes.
FRANKEL: And I think that`s from her, from the show. And -- I mean I honestly think that it`s really possible that he had an affair and so did she because they don`t have an outlet.
HAMMER: Of course, they are all still denying it.
Off to you, Scott. You saw the show. Do you buy Jon`s affair denial?
SCOTT STERNBERG, REALITY TV PRODUCER: Well, who knows? I mean this show is a locomotive out of control. The thing went right through the roof. Triple the amount of women watching than men. And you know what? What`s true and what`s not true, nobody really knows. But it`s a great television show. It`s water cooler 24 hours a day.
Did Jon cheat? Did she cheat? Who knows? But you know what? Let`s all stay tuned and maybe we`ll find out.
HAMMER: Yes. We`ll continue to talk about it, for sure. And again, Jon is saying he didn`t do anything wrong. But that didn`t stop him from apologizing. He says he`s sorry for his actions. And I don`t often use air quotes. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: So Jon, is there anything else that you`d like to address?
J. GOSSELIN: Yes. I`d like to apologize to my family for my actions. Like I said, it was the wrong place, wrong time. But I understand the ramifications of everything and how it will greatly affect everything. I should have thought about more what I did and where I was going, stuff like that. And everyone knows what I`m talking about. I don`t have to explain it.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right. Time for the next burning question. And Bethenny, to you, is Jon`s apology enough?
FRANKEL: I think Jon is not apologizing to his wife or his family. I think Jon is doing a half ass effort at apologizing to the public because we`ve caught him. And I just -- I think he`s a young man who is living a life of someone 10 times his age.
I think he`s in way over his head. And we`re paying his bills by him being able to be on a television show in this fish bowl. And like I said, I don`t think he has any outlet. And he just -- someone has said to him you need to apologize and that`s what he`s doing. And I don`t think we`re really buying it.
HAMMER: Yes. And did you see the body language between the two of them? Wow. I mean, it was pretty obvious during this entire episode that these two are so mad at each other. Jon and Kate couldn`t even be in the same room. And I`m sure some of that was staged but they barely spoke at their children`s 5th birthday party which the show centered around.
And only once on the entire show were they actually interviewed sitting side by side. And looked uncomfortable. Pretty tense. Watch this.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What`s the status of where you guys are right now?
K. GOSSELIN: I wish I knew.
J. GOSSELIN: I don`t know.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And what the future holds, we don`t know.
K. GOSSELIN: I can only speak for myself. I`m here. I`m here every minute that working doesn`t require me to be away. So I can`t speak for anyone but myself.
J. GOSSELIN: And I`m here for my kids.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: All right, so I`m watching this clip and I`m thinking, there is no way this marriage can make it. I mean that`s just me.
Bethenny, let me go back to you for this with this burning question because you know what it`s like to be there in front of the cameras when stuff is hitting the fan. Do you think, based on what you`ve seen, their marriage can possibly survive?
FRANKEL: I think that a marriage is something that has to be protected. And you really -- if you start out with cracks in the foundation, it`s hard to continue building a house. And I think they have so many cracks in the foundation. And it`s like -- I mean it`s like the champagne cork is out of the bottle and you can`t get it back in.
It just looks like there is way too much damage here. I mean there`s damage and everybody else is watching. So even if you had a moment to kind of process it, you can`t. Because if it`s not us watching, it`s the paparazzi. And I just -- I don`t see how they can really get through this. It would take a miracle.
They`re Christians, maybe they`re praying for a miracle but they don`t seem like they have the life in them to even fight for it. And that`s what you really need to resolve marital issues.
HAMMER: Scott, what`s your take on that? Because you as a reality show producer know what kind of pressure these people and the subjects of your shows face when the cameras are around them 24 hours a day.
STERNBERG: Yes. I mean I think that they are absolutely real. They`re having big, big trouble. I mean I agree with Bethany. The fact is, they could have talked to each other before they sat there on the couch and actually told us what was going on.
I think there`s big news that`s going to come very, very soon. What I don`t feel good about is there`s eight children here who are also part of this and they`re hearing this. And they`re old enough. Maybe, you know, think that mom and dad may be having some trouble here. So I think they`re in big trouble and they need some help now. Maybe therapy.
HAMMER: Yes. I`m right there with you. I think we all have to think about the kids in this case. And if it does take a turn for the worse, and let`s face it, it`s already pretty bad. You`ve got to wonder what`s going to happen with them. Now they hashed through all of that. And let`s hear what they said about that on the show.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
K. GOSSELIN: Parents of multiples have like triple the divorce rate. I`m thinking we were going to beat that. But I don`t know if I can say that anymore.
J. GOSSELIN: We just have to make a plan and decide, you know, what we`re going to do. That`s really between me and Kate.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Scott, our next burning question is a doozy. How are their marriage problems affecting their kids?
STERNBERG: These kids are watching it. They live with the cameramen, they live with the crew. They know what`s going on. They`ve seen changes in mommy and daddy. You know? And this is a problem that they have to really get -- you know, Jon and Kate have to get involved with.
So it`s not so much it will go this way, it will go that way. It`s going to go in a very important way. And I know that something is going to happen very, very soon.
HAMMER: Yes.
STERNBERG: . and we have to watch out for that. Plus the fact is that we hope for them. America is all watching them. This is a big story for America. Especially reality TV watchers.
HAMMER: It may make for great TV but sometimes you really have to stop and say, is it all worth it?
Scott Sternberg, Bethenny Frankel, I really appreciate you both being here.
FRANKEL: Thank you.
HAMMER: OK. So first we heard about Mel Gibson`s girlfriend. And now he`s telling the world they`re having a baby together. So why is Mel going public with all of this news in the middle of his multimillion-dollar divorce? And will this baby news be bad news for Mel`s image?
All right. Take a look at this photo. Why did this gorgeous Hollywood star take a photo of herself toothless in the dentist chair? You`re not going to believe who it is and why she did it.
And superstar Susan`s stunning encore coming up. Susan Boyle`s brand new unbelievable performance. You`ll want to get the kids out of bed and bust out the ice cream. You have got to see this.
This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.
And now the SHOWBIZ News Ticker. More stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.

HAMMER: Did you see this? YouTube superstar Susan Boyle is back with a brand new look. Let me say she sounds more sensational than ever.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
Tonight, Susan Boyle back and better than ever. The 47-year-old Scottish spinster returned to the stage for her big encore. And talk about pressure here. Her first performance for "Les Mis" got over 100 million hits on YouTube. And I`ve got to say, this one may have topped her first song.
Susan Boyle singing "Memory" on "Britain`s Got Talent." Listen to this.
(MUSIC)
HAMMER: Wow. How do you not love Susan Boyle? I mean come on this performance got her to the finals of the show and when Susan was asked if she felt pressure from all the worldwide attention that she`s been getting, she simply said what pressure?
All right, moving on now tonight. A remarkable confession from Mel Gibson. Is his girlfriend pregnant or not? As he waits for his divorce to come through. This is one of the big stories making news right now.
The soon-to-be divorced Mel Gibson not only admitted that he`s expecting a child with his girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva, but wait until you hear where he made the confession. Talk about a nationwide audience.
Also new right now, get a load of this. Who is the usually super glamorous major hot movie star showing off her toothless grin on Twitter? I mean, the dentist chair. What would make her want to do something like this?
Joining me tonight in Hollywood, Carlos Diaz is a correspondent for "Extra." Joining me tonight in New York, Midwin Charles, attorney for the law firm Midwin Charles and Associates.
Well, there certainly has been a lot of speculation floating around over whether or not Mel Gibson`s new girlfriend was pregnant. Well, Mel finally telling all. And he made his confession to Jay Leno. Take a look.
(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)
JAY LENO, HOST, THE TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO: That you guys are going to have a child?
MEL GIBSON, ACTOR: This is true.
LENO: It is true.
GIBSON: I`m having a child. It is.
LENO: You know what? Now this will make.
(CROSSTALK)
LENO: This will make 29 for you, right?
GIBSON: Well, actually, eight. I guess I`m Octo-Mel now.
LENO: You`re Octo-Mel.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: He`s Octo-Mel because Mel already has seven kids with the soon-to- be divorced wife Robin.
Carlos, I`ll begin with you. I`ve got to ask, do you think revealing that his girlfriend was pregnant while he`s going through a divorce on "The Tonight Show" is such a smart move?
CARLOS DIAZ, CORRESPONDENT, "EXTRA": Yes, it was. And I`ll tell you why, because Mel Gibson, if he`s anything, he`s charming. And being on "The Tonight Show," this is tough news to digest because he was married for almost 30 years in Hollywood, which is a rarity.
You know he`s not officially divorced yet. His wife -- his girlfriend is now in her second trimester. So this is all tough to digest but he can come out on "The Tonight Show" and be Mel Gibson.
HAMMER: Yes.
DIAZ: And make us like him rather than having it in a statement on a piece of paper.
HAMMER: No, it`s funny, I got the same thing. You know despite the perceived scandal that`s going on, he came across as affable. But it`s true.
DIAZ: Right.
HAMMER: Now if we look at the big picture, Mel says yes, I`ve been separated from my wife for three years. But Midwin, let me ask you this. Still, are a lot of people not going to look at this as Gibson getting another woman pregnant before the ink was dry on his divorce papers? I`m thinking that can`t really help his image.
CHARLES: Well, I think one of the problems that he has is this contradiction. I mean Mel Gibson is someone who used to be shouting from the mountain tops that he was a big Christian and very religious and he`s produced movies to that effect.
So for him to do this, you know, and get a woman pregnant and be separated and not yet divorced is kind of a contradiction.
HAMMER: What do you think about that, Carlos? Do we have a right? And for those people who are criticizing Gibson have a right to be so harsh on him? Is he being hypocritical or does he kind of have the right to live his life the way he wants to do it and we should.
DIAZ: A.J., A.J., usually I say, you know, celebrities, you know, have the right to live their life like we do. But Midwin makes a great point. I mean if you`re going to sit there and shout from the mountain tops that you`re a Catholic and that you have your own church and that we should all follow along, well, what you`re doing is not very Christ-like. So I agree. I mean we do have a right to kind of point our finger here.
HAMMER: All right. Let`s move on now to another story that is new right now. Demi Moore`s toothless style. Yes, you`re looking at Demi Moore. She took a picture of herself at the dentist chair. And as you see, yes, she`s missing a tooth and she sent it right out to Twitter, to her million of followers. And these are the words that she included with that tweet.
"Was happy to share and always appreciate the opportunity to find humility. Or at least be able to laugh at myself."
All right, Midwin, I get the whole social networking thing. I get the whole Twitter thing and the Twitter nation. TMI, though, right? I mean come on.
CHARLES: Yes, I`m on Twitter, too, and it`s great. Well, I think it`s cute, A.J. I think it`s wonderful. I mean Demi Moore is fabulous and sexy and a cougar in her right. And she looks perfect all the time. So for her to do this I think is a wonderful thing. It shows humility and it shows us she`s a normal human being with problems like everyone else.
HAMMER: I always remember "St. Elmo`s Fire" and how much I fell in love with her in that movie.
Carlos, are you seeing her sexy right now?
DIAZ: I`m from Indiana so I can say this. There are a lot of people in Kentucky now that find it very attractive.
HAMMER: Oh Carlos.
DIAZ: . missing their front tooth.
HAMMER: I`m going to cut off your mike and do you a favor right now.
Carlos Diaz, Midwin Charles, thank you. Send your e-mail to Carlos.
Moving on. Remember when Brooke Shields said nothing gets between her and her Calvin Klein jeans? No, she wasn`t kidding. Tonight you`ve got to hear Brooke`s brand new revelation about losing her virginity. And the stunning connection that had to her body image and weigh issues.
Brooke`s sex confession coming up.

MR. T: Let me route, route, route for the (INAUDIBLE). If they don`t win it (INAUDIBLE). For it`s one, two, three strikes you`re out at the old ball game.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
HAMMER: Did you see this? I pity the fool that had to sit through this whole thing. Mr. T singing or trying to sing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." That was at Wrigley Field during a Chicago Cubs game.
Well, a lot of people may have been scared by T`s singing. The Pittsburgh Pirates apparently weren`t. They beat the Cubs. But you know I like the guy a lot. I still give this "A Team" star A for effort.
Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. Well, tonight Brooke Shields is speaking out about her sex life in a brand new, surprisingly candid interview. Shields says that she wishes she had sex earlier in life to benefit her health.
In an interview with "Health" magazine, she says, quote, "I think I would have lost my virginity earlier than I did at 22. I think I would have been much more in touch with myself. I think I wouldn`t have had issues with weight. I carried this protective 20 pounds in college. It was all connected. And to me, that`s a health regret."
The June issue of "Health" magazine featuring Brooke on the cover is on newsstands today.
