A.J. HAMMER, HOST: Big news, breaking right now on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT, John Edwards` shocking baby daddy confession. Edwards finally admits today that he is the father of his former mistress` baby.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ALICIA QUARLES, ASSOCIATED PRESS: He also says that one day he`ll talk to his little girl and explain why he denied her. It`s a pretty interesting conversation.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Tonight, what about Edwards` terminally ill wife Elizabeth? What will the man, who could have been president, do next? Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT with the Edwards baby bombshell that`s rocking the country.

The shocking connection between John Edwards and Tiger Woods. The remarkable link between the two guys once seen as the most squeaky-clean celebrities out there. Tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT blows the lid off the remarkable Edwards-Woods connection.

Today`s brand-new Heidi Montag surgery confessions. Did she really almost die after getting 10 surgeries? And why is Dr. Drew saying Heidi is basically a cross-dresser?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: TV`s most provocative entertainment news show starts right now.

(MUSIC)

BROOKE ANDERSON, HOST: Hi there, everyone. I`m Brooke Anderson, coming to you from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.

HAMMER: I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.

And tonight, John Edwards` bombshell baby confession. Yes, John Edwards confirmed today that he`s not only a cheater, he is also a liar.

After years of flat-out denying it, Edwards admitted today that he is, indeed, the father of the child of his mistress. Yes, it turns out the man, who many thought would be the next president of the United States, turns out to be, just like Tiger Woods, which is why SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can now reveal that this latest embarrassing, disturbing chapter in Edwards` spectacular fall from grace made for big news breaking today.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

HAMMER (voice-over): Former senator and presidential candidate John Edwards is finally admitting what the tabloids, media and everyone on planet earth seemed to know already. The baby born to his former mistress is actually his.

QUARLES: Oh, my god. This is so shocking. Not. I mean, the American public knew this a year ago. Really, John.

HAMMER: After two years of denying and lying and the crying...

FMR. SEN. JOHN EDWARDS (D), NORTH CAROLINA: Tabloid trash is full of lies.

HAMMER: John Edwards is dropping the act. In this morning`s surprise announcement, Edwards finally acknowledged his 2-year-old daughter, Quinn, saying, quote, "I`ve been able to spend time with her during the past year and trust that future efforts to show her love and affection she deserves can be done privately and in peace."

He adds, quote, "To all of those I have disappointed and hurt, these words will never be enough but I am truly sorry."

QUARLES: He also says that one day, he`ll talk to his little girl and explain why he denied her. It should be an interesting conversation.

HAMMER: SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can tell you in a time when Jon Gosselin and Tiger Woods are well-known models of bad husband-father behavior, John Edwards just might take the cake.

QUARLES: You know, those people right now that are saying, "Why should we believe anything that he says?"

HAMMER: It`s been kind of hard to keep track of what John Edwards has said lately ever since the "National Enquirer" first broke the story of his extramarital affair with Rielle Hunter in 2007. Edwards has changed his story more times than Lady Gaga changes her outfits. First, he denied the affair...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When you were running for president, you flat out denied your relationship with Rielle Hunter. Did you give me a truthful answer? Were you telling the truth then?

J. EDWARDS: Yes.

HAMMER: It turns out he wasn`t telling the truth.

J. EDWARDS: 2006, two years ago, I made a very serious mistake.

HAMMER: In a 2008 interview with ABC`s "Nightline," he admitted the affair with Hunter. He then insisted the affair occurred when the cancer suffered by his wife Elizabeth was in remission. We found out today that`s not quite true either.

LISA MYERS, ANCHOR, THE "TODAY" SHOW: This child was conceived three months after Elizabeth announced that her cancer was back and it was incurable.

HAMMER: This morning in an interview with "Today" show`s Lisa Myers, a friend, who has been speaking for Edwards, admitted that too was a lie.

HARRISON HICKMAN, LONGTIME EDWARDS FRIEND: As he has said, he`s been deceitful about it. He`s lied about it.

HAMMER: And most memorably, in that 2008 "Nightline" interview, Edwards insisted - insisted there is no way little Quinn could be his.

J. EDWARDS: I know it`s not possible that this child could be mine because of the timing of events. So I know it`s not possible.

HAMMER: It turns out it was much more than possible. One scandal, three big whoppers.

QUARLES: The whole thing is just extremely sick and you don`t know who to believe in this case.

HAMMER: What about his Edwards` wife of 32 years, Elizabeth? She`s not only had to deal with her husband`s betrayal. She`s dealing with a cancer that threatens to take her life.

QUARLES: A friend of the Edwards told the Associated Press that Elizabeth is extremely supportive of the statement that John put out. She really wants this to be over with and I think in order to be over with, you`ve got to come clean with the public.

HAMMER: And now, this two year old public soap opera which played itself out in the political pages, news shows and the tabloids appears to finally be over. Now, it`s hard to imagine how the one-time would-be president can damage his reputation and family any more than he already has.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

So is saying I`m sorry going to be enough for John Edwards to save face? Or is today`s explosive "I`m the daddy" confession just too little too late?

Joining me tonight in New York, Jane Velez-Mitchell, the host, of course, of "ISSUES WITH JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL," seen every day at 7:00 p.m. right here on HLN. She`s also the author of this fine book, "I Want: My Journey from Addiction and Overconsumption to a Simpler, Honest Life." Tonight in Hollywood, it`s Tanika Ray who is an entertainment journalist.

All right. So for more than a year, John Edwards has been denying that he`s the father of his ex-mistress`s 2-year-old daughter.

And now, today, fight before one of his campaign aides releases a tell-all book, Edwards decides, "Hey, I`m going to come clean and say I`m the baby`s father." And quite frankly, I`m not sure which part of the story is most disgusting. Jane, other than clearing his conscience, is there any upside to Edwards finally fessing up at this point?

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HOST, "ISSUES WITH JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL": Well, yes and no. By the way, this guy lied so much I think he might be a lying addict and might have to go into lying rehab.

HAMMER: Yes.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I mean, this is over the top. Yes, it`s positive in that finally this child and her mother won`t have to live with this toxic secret. The world knows that this child has a father and her father`s name is John Edwards.

But imagine the therapy this little girl is going to have to go through when she gets older and realizes how her dad lied and lied and lied to deny her. That has got to make her feel very unwanted. This is just - it`s just - my blood boils when I think of what he`s done.

HAMMER: Well, let`s not forget how long this thing has been going on. I mean, it was all the way back in 2007, October of that year, when the "National Enquirer" first reported that Edwards was having this affair with Rielle Hunter.

Of course, this was what set off the sort of snowballing effect of denial after denial, first, about his affair, then about fathering his mistress` child. Let`s flashback to it all, shall we?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When you were running for president you flat out denied having a relationship with Rielle Hunter. Did you give me a truthful answer? Were you telling the truth then?

J. EDWARDS: Yes. In 2006, two years ago, I made a very serious mistake.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A report has been published that the baby of Ms. Hunter is your baby. True?

J. EDWARDS: Not true.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Yes. And of course, that brings us to today when he finally cops to lying all this time, saying, quote, "It was wrong for me to ever deny she was my daughter."

Tanika, I, for one, am glad that he ultimately was honest. But really, is Edwards` latest confession just too little too late?

TANIKA RAY, ENTERTAINMENT JOURNALIST: Way, way too late, as a matter of fact. And I call this, "no duh" news. We all knew what the truth was, and it`s really despicable. I don`t think there`s anything worse. I almost kind of look up to Tiger Woods for at least going away and not lying to the public.

This thing about a politician who swears in front of America, that wants us to trust them, has really gone too far when they betray us time and time again. I just find - my heart screams for Elizabeth.

HAMMER: Yes.

RAY: Now, of course, she makes the decision to stay with him and I understand that. But she`s also battling for her life. And I just feel like she must be the prototype for that show, "The Good Wife." And she has been the good wife indeed.

But rip the band-aid off, John, next time. Don`t peel it off slowly so she can endure this pain over two years. I just think it`s gross, disgusting and I hope men learn a lesson from that.

HAMMER: No kidding. I mean, how many times can an individual be tested? And certainly Elizabeth has been through so, so much. Let me read a little bit of the John Edwards statement that really jumped out at me. Today, he said, "To all of those I disappointed and hurt, these words will never be enough but I am truly sorry."

And obviously, one of those people he is apologizing to is his wife Elizabeth. We have seen her stand by his side through all of this while she battles incurable breast cancer. Now, he is saying he is truly remorseful and sorry.

Jane, those are remorseful words. Are you buying it at all? I mean, as you said, he sounds like a lying addict.

VELEZ-MITCHELL He`s sorry that his life has imploded. He`s sorry that he`s reviled. He`s sorry that he`s become an embarrassment and he probably looks back at his life and goes, "Oh, my god. Did I make bad decision after bad decision?"

This was really a campaign of deceit. And he really needs to go into therapy and take his life apart, top to bottom, and find out who is John Edwards? What are your values? Why do you lie so much? What was it all about?" And he is obviously incredibly narcissistic.

HAMMER: Yes.

VELEZ-MITCHELL He`s really got psychological problems.

HAMMER: Yes. Not only does he need to go into therapy, I think, for most people concerned, I think he just needs to go away.

Another big breaking development today that we`ve got to talk about. Tonight, the shocking connection between John Edwards and Tiger Woods. These two have much more in common than simply a tragic fall from grace.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, Tanika Ray, stay right where you are. We`re going to get to that part of the story in just a moment.

I`ve got to toss this over to you first. It`s our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day. And here`s what we`re asking - "Who`s disappointed you more, John Edwards or Tiger Woods?" Vote at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. E-mail us more of your thoughts at showbiztonight@cnn.com.

ANDERSON: Tonight, at the Sundance Film Festival, super-bet Michael Cera rewrites the history books with a controversial but very funny short film on Alexander Hamilton.

Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m Brooke Anderson coming to you tonight from the Treasure Mountain Inn in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival. We`re going to show you more of those star-studded explosive, "Drunk History" films, one of them starring hilarious Jack Black.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT is at Sundance with all the stars on the lookout for the biggest and most controversial and most provocative films here. And let me tell you, there is no shortage of them.

One of those must-see films features "Twilight`s" Kristen Stewart. It`s called the "Runaways" with Stewart playing a young Joan Jett. And already causing big buzz today, Jack Black and a drunk narrator rewriting the history of how Benjamin Franklin discovered electricity. Watch this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JACK BLACK, COMEDIAN: William follows Ben Franklin out to a field where Ben Franklin says, "William, you are my (EXPLETIVE DELETED) son. Get a kite. Tie a string to it. Tie a key to the string and fly it in (EXPLETIVE DELETED).

So William, not Ben - William took a kite, tied a string to it with a spool and tied a (EXPLETIVE DELETED) metal key to the string and flew it up in a lightning storm.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I need to throw up and come back.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ANDERSON: A.J., I`m really not sure what`s more vulgar -the drunk part, the throwing up part or Jack Black rewriting Ben Franklin`s history. Either way, it`s hysterical.

HAMMER: I don`t know. Maybe that`s how it really happened, Brooke. Who knows? All the funny business aside, of course, we know that the tragedy in Haiti is also really top of mind out there in Sundance. I want you to tell me more about this absolutely fascinating project that I heard about by the Sundance Institute there.

ANDERSON: Yes, the Sundance Institute is actually posting videos on its YouTube channel from the only film school in Haiti. It`s called the Cine Institute and it`s doing that to raise awareness and bring attention to that school.

And that school is actually encouraging its students, its young film makers to right now document the tragedy there and also the recovery and rebuilding effort. And they are working to do that as we speak.

And also, the Sundance Institute in the film festival has launched a really neat, cool, easy way for people to donate to the relief fund. It`s a text messaging effort. We`re going to put the number at the bottom of the screen, and People can just donate.

You can just text "Sun Haiti" and the amount "Sun Haiti 20" or "Sun Haiti 50." There is no limit on what they want to pledge. And A.J., those donations will be split evenly between Doctors Without Borders and Save the Children and (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

HAMMER: Well, obviously, so much good work is being done, Brooke. And I imagine it`s something that a lot of people that you`re running into are talking about there.

ANDERSON: Absolutely. Everybody is here, of course, because they love film and they want to see as many of the nearly 200 films that will be showcased here. But everyone`s minds are on the incomprehensible suffering right now in Haiti as well.

And that`s why Sundance`s organizers are really encouraging people to stop, think about what`s going on there and donate - donate whatever they can.

HAMMER: Yes. That really is the backdrop to everything that is happening. All right, Brooke. We`re going to check back with you in a bit from Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival.

But as we move on tonight, the "Showbiz on Call" phone lines have been just going bonkers with people calling in about John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston. In a new interview, John says he never quite got over Jen.

So we asked, should they get back together? Well, we got a call in to "Showbiz on Call" from Pat in Oregon who says , no way.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

PAT, CALLER FROM OREGON: I hope Jen doesn`t go back with John Mayer. She is such a beautiful sexy, smart, fun woman. She deserves so much better. She`s been dumped enough. Let her go about her business and find someone that will love her and protect her and take care of her.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

HAMMER: All right. Pat, thanks for your call. We also heard from Nancy calling into "Showbiz on Call" from Pennsylvania. And Nancy says these two are made for each other.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

NANCY, CALLER FROM PENNSYLVANIA: I think John and Jen deserve each other. They`re both publicity hounds. And maybe she`ll move on from Brad Pitt. That what she`s seems to want to not do.

HAMMER: All right. Nancy, we appreciate your call as well. Remember, the "Showbiz on Call" phone lines are open all the time. The number is right here - 1-888-SBT-BUZZ; 1- 888-728-2899. Just call us up and leave a voicemail, and we`ll play some of your call right here on SHOWBIZ TONIGHT.

ANDERSON: Welcome back to SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. It is 30 minutes past the hour. I`m Brooke Anderson, coming to you tonight from the Sundance Film Festival.

HAMMER: I`m A.J. Hammer, broadcasting tonight and every night from New York City.

Tonight, the shocking connections between Tiger Woods and John Edwards. I`m talking about two guys who are major goody-two-shoes taking major plunges to the depths of despair.

It is big news today as former Senator John Edwards finally fessed up to fathering an illegitimate child. His big admission comes after discovering that a tell-all book will hit stores next month that totally outs him. The jig is up, John. What are you going to do now?

And Tiger isn`t safe from the rage today as the explosive astounding "National Enquirer" photos apparently of Tiger at sex rehab in Mississippi spread like wildfire and everybody is fired up.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOY BEHAR, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": The thing about it is that you also have to do sex rehab. Your spouse has to be in on it. So Elin is not there. Also the place is called Gentle Path, which sounds like a laxative, doesn`t it"

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: And tonight, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT will reveal the outrageous and shocking connections between these two good boys gone bad.

Joining me tonight from New York, Jane Velez-Mitchell, who is the host of "ISSUES WITH JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL." Catch it every night of the week, 7:00 right here on HLN - that is Eastern Time. She`s also the author of "I Want: My Journey from Addiction and Overconsumption to a Simpler, Honest Life." Tonight, in Hollywood, Dr. Reef Karim, who is the director of the Control Center.

All right. So Tiger and John outed. The gooses for these guys cooked you can stick a fork in on. They are so, so done. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT now reveals the first big connection between Tiger Woods and John Edwards.

Both had such clean-cut images. We all know Tiger was the golden golfer, the respectable family man who just happened to a harem of women on the side. Of course, John Edwards was the golden the senator with his eye on the presidency who lied repeatedly about fathering a love child.

Jane Velez-Mitchell, to you first. How could these two men, so beloved by so many, have been able to so thoroughly bamboozle America?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, I think part of it is that each of them seemed to travel with a small army of enablers and co-dependents, this entourage of yes-men, that would cover up their bad behavior.

In Tiger`s case, some of the women said they were approached, not by Tiger, but by his friends who would kind of arrange a meeting. And of course, in John Edwards` case, you have this former aide who was set to report that he actually pretended to be the child`s father to cover for John Edwards.

So you really have world class enablers with these guys - whatever you want to call them, these two.

HAMMER: Well, let`s put up the latest images that we have here if we can, Charles. Because this is now the image of Tiger Woods that is on everybody`s mind, apparently outside a sex rehab clinic. Dr. Reef, what do you think? How could he and Edwards so thoroughly bamboozle America? I mean, they really did.

DR. REEF KARIM, DIRECTOR, THE CONTROL CENTER: Yes, you know, something that`s really common with both of these guys is they sacrificed their childhoods to be who they are, whether it`s in the political world or it`s to be an amazing golfer.

You sacrifice things including your emotional development. And then, what you learn is you learn to compartmentalize needs you have, drives you have, that hedonistic vibe.

You can`t show that because you`re the golden boy. You can`t show that side of you. What you can do is you can hide it. You can manipulate. You can lie. You can do what you`ve got to do to let that side out because it`s there, but you do it in secret.

And I agree with Jane. I mean, you have - you surround yourself with people that allow you to kind of let out this darker side that you have instead of integrating the darker side into your life.

HAMMER: Yes. I mean, it`s wild that they were living such incredibly contradictory lives. And it`s not just their good boy facade that connects John Edwards and Tiger Woods.

SHOWBIZ TONIGHT can now reveal the next big connection - both of these bad boys waited to admit their sins. For Tiger, of course, it was a matter of about a week or so for him to come clean.

Now, for John Edwards, of course, that man lied continuously until finally coming clean just today about his 2-year-old love child. Charles, I would love to play one of those big fat lies if we can. This is the one that John told ABC`s "Nightline" in August of `08. Can we roll that one?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: A report has been published that the baby of Ms. Hunter is your baby, true?

J. EDWARDS: Not true. Not true. Published in a supermarket tabloid, but no. That is absolutely not true.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: All right. So he looked America straight in the eye and lied. Jane, what do you think, if it`s possible to compare, is what he did worse than what Tiger did?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Absolutely, because this man aspired to the highest office in the land. He wanted to be the guy with his finger on the red button that determines whether all of us could live or die.

Imagine if this had broken, if he had gotten elected and he was sitting in office and we suddenly learned about the scandal and he was negotiating with our allies and our enemies. And they wouldn`t know whether to trust him because he`s a world class liar. I think he`s a pathological liar.

HAMMER: Well, did you catch "The View" this morning, by the way. The ladies, of course, just fired up over this. Elisabeth Hasselbeck minced no words about what she thinks the biggest problem is for both of these guys. Take a look at what she said.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ELISABETH HASSELBECK, CO-HOST, "THE VIEW": Everyone`s going to say it. I think that this is someone who sometimes is so blinded by their own power they don`t think they are going to get caught. They`re not sorry. They`re sorry that they got caught. They are only willing to even make that statement.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Btu I think that they are sorry.

HAMMER: All right. It`s not just on "The View" where they`re buzzing about this. Brooke Anderson is in Sundance in Park City, Utah. I know, Brooke, everybody there is buzzing about the audacity of Tiger and John. What are people saying?

I mean, do you agree yourself with Elisabeth or are Tiger and John only sorry because they got caught red-handed. Is that what you`re hearing from the crowds there?

ANDERSON: Oh, I agree. They are sorry, all right, A.J. They are sorry that their perfect little worlds have collapsed around them. I mean, where is their conscience? It seems to be nonexistent is where it is actually, A.J. They have no regard for the family that they are hurting, that they are devastating.

And I really feel for John Edwards` little daughter because, one day, she will know and understand that her father repeatedly denied paternity. And it is going to crush her.

HAMMER: Yes.

ANDERSON: So sentiment that I`m hearing really is, A.J., that it is not about considering other people`s feelings, with these guys. It`s all about ego.

HAMMER: Yes. And too little too late. I mean, such damage has been done. Well, SHOWBIZ TONIGHT now reveals probably the most heartbreaking Tiger-John connection of all. Both of these men deeply betrayed their wives and dragged them through humiliating public scandals.

Dr. Reef, what do you think? Which is worse, cheating on the mother of your two kids with, you know, a baker`s dozen of women like Tiger did, or cheating on your wife who is battling terminal cancer and having a love child like John did?

KARIM: I`ve got to go with the cancer wife there. They are both bad. Come on. I mean, let`s be real. They`re both incredibly bad.

In Tiger`s case, I don`t know if he`s just a player, bad boy acted out badly or if he was a sex addict or he is a love addict. I don`t know the story there yet. We`ll find out because he`s in treatment. And I`m glad he`s in treatment.

In John Edwards` case, I mean, he`s gone from like this major political figure to just a tabloid throwaway. I mean, it`s ridiculous what`s happened, how he could do that to a woman who has cancer.

And then, you know, we`re all citizens. For him to potentially be in the highest office in the land and look all of us in the eye and tell us this, and then we find out that he`s been lying the entire time to me is the most tragic thing you could possibly do to your country, let alone to your wife.

HAMMER: Yes. Both of these guys have just fallen so, so far. Hard to imagine either of them having a terrific comeback. I think Tiger might actually have a better shot. And as I mentioned earlier in the show, I think John - he may have to go away. Jane Velez-Mitchell and Dr. Reef Karim, I thank you both.

And we`ve been asking you to vote on our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day - "Who has disappointed you more, John Edwards or Tiger Woods?" Let us know at CNN.com/ShowbizTonight. You want to E-mail us? We have an address for that. It is showbiztonight@cnn.com.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m just right here. Come on. (UNINTELLIGIBLE). You`re going to kick me out like this?

HAMMER: Another "American Idol" shocker. Why did this guy get wrestled to the ground and handcuffed? Was it really that bad? This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.

Now, the "SHOWBIZ News Ticker" - more stories from the SHOWBIZ TONIGHT newsroom making news right now.

TEXT: Eight British film nominations each for "Avatar," "The Hurt Locker," and "An Education." Google to make some films available for rent through YouTube.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

WALTER KOENIG, ACTOR: The more people (UNINTELLIGIBLE). The more - seems to rally other folks. And everybody pitches in. And you know, in the midst of the greatest tragedy, we see the most elegant humanity and most eloquent humanity. And this is what we`re doing now - this is what we`re doing now to help these folks. It`s terribly important. We`re all one. We`re all one people.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

HAMMER: Tonight, should John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston get back together? Well, that`s the explosive question after John Mayer`s shocking confession in the brand-new issue of "Rolling Stone" magazine that he ain`t over Jen yet.

We asked that in our SHOWBIZ TONIGHT question of the day and the poll results came in late this afternoon. The question was, "John Mayer Not Over Jen: Should John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston get back together?"

Look at this. Very decisive. Fifteen percent of you say yes; 85 percent say no. I want to go back to the Sundance Film Festival. SHOWBIZ TONIGHT`s Brooke Anderson right there. Brooke, are you surprised that 85 percent say John and Jen should just keep away from each other?

ANDERSON: No, I`m not surprised, A.J. They`ve tried more than once to make it work and unfortunately, it hasn`t. If it`s meant to be, maybe they can work it out. But it seems that they just need to focus on moving on, finding someone they`re compatible with and makes them happy. They deserve that.

HAMMER: Yes. Clearly, there was something there that wasn`t working, so I`m right there with you. All right, Brooke. Thank you very much. We`re going to come back to you in just a minute.

Moving on now to the shocking revelations today about Heidi Montag`s plastic surgery madness and her 10 cosmetic procedures. Well, the reality TV star now claims that she nearly died after getting all that work done. She even compares herself to Michael Jackson.

But wait, there`s more. In a mind-blowing interview, "Celeb Rehab" Dr. Drew Pinsky says he believes that Heidi may be a female cross dresser. What the heck is that about?

With me tonight in Hollywood, Tanika Ray - she`s an entertainment journalist. Also in Hollywood tonight, Dr. Reef Karim. He is a psychiatrist and addiction specialist.

OK. So Heidi Montag`s extraordinary claim that she nearly died comes in a brand-new interview with "Access Hollywood," but her doctor tells "Access Hollywood" he has no idea where she got that story from. Take a look at this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HEIDI MONTAG, REALITY TV STAR: I had too much Demerol like Michael Jackson did.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: She had too much Demerol after her procedures and her breathing was down to five breaths per minute?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I don`t think that occurred as far as I know.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Where would she get that information from?

MONTAG: They had to put oxygen on my face and call my plastic surgeon to come in for an emergency.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: OK. So Heidi got that information wrong?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: So Heidi`s story, you listen to it, - obviously, it`s a very detailed her doctor, you saw it, flat-out denying the story. Dr. Reef, let me ask you first. I don`t really get it. Why in the world would Heidi say something like this?

KARIM: Yes. Who knows? Either it`s true - that`s a good reason to say it. Or because she really wants the attention and has some - who knows what it is. It`s coming from somewhere where she needs that attention.

I think it`s important in this case that when you have 10 procedures like that in one day, there is something wrong. I mean, forget that. There is something wrong. There is a mental health issue or an addiction issue there, flat-out done. So who knows why she`s saying it. It could be true. It could be not.

HAMMER: Yes. And you know, look, I`m not one to make light of this at all because. I do think there`s obviously something going on there with Heidi.

RAY: Yes, that`s true, A.J.

HAMMER: It`s really - yes, it`s a sad situation. And her doctor is jumping right in the middle of the controversy over whether or not Heidi is really hooked on plastic surgery.

Now, she`s now backed off of the claim that she`s addicted. But you got to hear what her doctor reveals to "Access Hollywood" about that claim. Roll that, Charles.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I knew going in one of angles was the quote, unquote "addiction angle" which is media-driven sort of angle that`s just not true.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: But you do not think Heidi is addicted to plastic surgery?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, it`s not that I don`t think. I know.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: But this is the doctor who helped her with the 10 procedures. Tanika, it sounds me to like he might be trying to cover his butt after all the outrage over all of Heidi`s surgeries. Do you think that`s what`s going on here?

RAY: Exactly. They are in cahoots to sort of drudge up this drama for the media so they can both get publicity. Now, they`re - oops, it didn`t work and everybody thinks they`re lame.

So now, she is switching her story to the Michael Jackson story, because that was a really popular story this year. I just - I`m so over her and I have to roll my eyes on television - oh, go away.

She`s so vapid and so - her self-proclaimed celebrity, so filled with self-importance. And when it comes down to it, she needs to go away, grow up, get some therapy and evolve into a woman naturally like the rest of us and without twittering every single move in her life and every single growing pain both physically and mentally through the media. I don`t understand how she keeps capturing our attention. So, go away.

HAMMER: Yes. Let me tell you what Dr. Drew is saying, because in an exclusive interview seen today on "Radar Online," the "Celeb Rehab" doctor makes the incredible claim that Heidi is a female cross dresser. Listen to Dr. Drew`s startling theory.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DR. DREW PINSKY, PSYCHIATRIST: This is female cross dressing. In other words, a woman that over-accentuates her femaleness who becomes a Barbie doll - that always really concerns me. That suggests some significant trauma.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Dr. Reef, I know you`ve worked closely with Dr. Drew. Do you buy his theory?

KARIM: No, female cross dresser. I`m not digging it, no. I think there`s a lot of women that accentuate their bodies and look, it`s either a problem or it`s not a problem. There are lots of women out there that do this and try to become more feminine, fine.

It`s a problem when you have adverse consequences over and over and over. Something nobody has really mentioned in this case is there`s something called body dysmorphic disorder ...

HAMMER: Yes.

RAY: Absolutely.

KARIM: ... that people have talked about. Basically, somebody who has body dysmorphic disorder - there`s a mirror right in front of them. They look in the mirror every day and all they see are flaws. They don`t like anything about themselves. And what they do is they get surgery...

HAMMER: Yes. And they take it way and they take these radical measures. I do have to end it there. Dr. Reef Karim, Tanika, thank you both.

Well, tonight, the shocking end to an "American Idol" audition. Look at what happened to this guy.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMER: Another "American Idol" shocker. I know that some of these "Idol" auditions can end pretty badly. But did this guy get wrestled to the ground and handcuffed after he got the boot? Was he really that bad? This is SHOWBIZ TONIGHT on HLN.

HAMMER: A less than graceful departure for an "American Idol" hopeful after singing "Amazing Grace." Jared Norrell (ph) was told that he sounded like a lawnmower. And when the judges rejected him, he made a fuss and had to be hauled away had in handcuffs.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You going to bend your knees...

HAMMER: Norrell was later released and no charges were filed.

SIMON COWELL, "AMERICAN IDOL" JUDGE: Yes or no?

Here are some of the E-mails we got. Desiree in Mississippi writes, "I think John had his chance with Jen. He should just move on. He blew it."

Kathy writes, "Are you kidding? With an immature interview like that, Jennifer would be crazy to go back to him."

We also heard from Double T - Double T checking in from Canada. Double T writing, "She is more beautiful and more importantly, talented and fabulous. Trust me, she`s too smart to make that mistake twice."

We thank you for your E-mails and we thank you for watching. That is it for SHOWBIZ TONIGHT. I`m A.J. Hammer in New York.
