Joran Van Der Sloot Taken Into Custody in Chile

NANCY GRACE, HOST: Breaking news tonight in the disappearance of Alabama beauty Natalee Holloway, missing off her high school senior trip, Aruba. Aruban police couldn`t or wouldn`t make a case against judge`s son Joran Van Der Sloot even after high-tech surveillance catches him describing Natalee`s death. After Van Der Sloot`s father, Judge Paulus Van Der Sloot, key in the alleged coverup for his son, collapses dead, speculation Joran Van Der Sloot would slip up. Well, sure enough, just days after his father is cremated, video emerges of Van Der Sloot claiming he`s there, this time saying Holloway falls to her death from a balcony, insisting her body will never be found.
But hold on. Not so fast, Van Der Sloot! Just when he thinks he`ll walk on the murder of American girl Natalee Holloway, live tonight, Peru, Joran Van Der Sloot kills again, say police. Another young girl, just 21, meets Van Der Sloot at a resort casino, just like Holloway. She`s found dead just hours later, stabbed to death, brutally beaten, her neck broken, her body wrapped in a blanket in Joran Van Der Sloot`s own hotel room. What does he do? Van Der Sloot runs, crossing the border to Chile.
Tonight, the search for alleged two-time killer judge`s son Joran Van Der Sloot pays off. Bombshell tonight. Joran Van Der Sloot, his appearance totally altered to elude police, in the last hours, captured. He managed to make it 2,500 miles away from the dead girl`s body.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He was arrested on route 68. It does stem from Santiago, Chile, to the border of Peru.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He is suspected of killing a woman, a 21-year-old woman, in Lima, Peru.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This time, he won`t be able to walk away.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: ... incriminating evidence linking him to her death.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He looks like he`s panicked.
DAVE HOLLOWAY, NATALEE`S FATHER: He`s got an account to settle, and I hope he settles it on this earth.

GRACE: Good evening. I`m Nancy Grace. I want to thank you for being with us. Bombshell tonight. Judge`s son Joran Van Der Sloot, his appearance totally altered to elude police, in the last hours, captured. He manages to make it 2,500 miles away from the dead girl`s body.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The manhunt is over for Joran Van Der Sloot.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He is the man they`re looking for, that he has been arrested. He has been captured.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Authorities say they detained him today in Chile.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: That is Joran Van Der Sloot, who was just arrested...
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): I just touched her and there wasn`t anything anymore. It was over.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He`s now in custody, under arrest in Santiago.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Vina Del Mar -- it`s a beach tourist resort.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He is now detained.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He was on his way there in a taxi.
HOLLOWAY: He`s tried to avoid this justice system.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Stephany Flores was found dead in a Lima hotel room registered in Van Der Sloot`s name.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It was such a crime of passion.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: ... the anger involved...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: There was a short window that he committed this crime.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We will be able to show that he is the killer, and he won`t be able to walk away, like he did in Aruba.
HOLLOWAY: ... total disregard for anyone else except for himself.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Did you try to resuscitate her?
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): I tried everything. I even lifted her up.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He thought he was off the hook. He considers himself as a winner.
TWITTY: Yes. I know he knows. He has just totally, totally dragged us all through hell, Joran Van Der Sloot.

GRACE: Straight out to Jean Casarez, legal correspondent, "In Session." Joran Van Der Sloot arrested, in custody, captured. Tell me where he was captured.
JEAN CASAREZ, "IN SESSION": He was apprehended on route 68. That is in the country of Chile. It is going away from Santiago toward the Vina Del Mar. "Mar" means "sea" in Spanish. It`s believed he may have been going to the coast, possibly to get on a boat.
He was in a taxi. The taxi wasn`t pulled over, but they`re saying that it was police work, excellent police work, that found out where he was, apprehended him there and took him back, where he remains tonight at the police station in Santiago, Chile.
GRACE: Is it true, Jean Casarez, that he had altered his appearance, dyeing his hair red and giving himself a buzzcut?
CASAREZ: We saw it for ourself, Nancy, because we saw that walk. When he got back to Santiago and he was escorted by three police officers into the station, he looked vastly different, as you see on your screen, from what we have seen before, Nancy. In the last hour, CNN of Chile is reporting that a delegation from the Netherlands is actually visiting him at the police station.
GRACE: With us tonight, everyone, a very special guest. He is joining us from Lima, Peru. It is the brother of Joran Van Der Sloot`s reported second murder victim. Her name, Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez. She`s 21 years old. Look at her. Look at that smile. She should be planning her next step in her education, her graduation from college, her future.
Instead, her body was found -- five years to the day that Natalee Holloway was reported missing -- in Joran Van Der Sloot`s hotel room. He intentionally told hotel staff, Don`t clean my room. I`ll be back in a couple hours. Don`t go in there, put a "Do not disturb" sign on his door. Why? So hotel staff wouldn`t find this young girl`s dead body, beaten, bruised, stabbed, her neck broken.
Joining us now from Lima, her brother, Enrique Flores. Sir, thank you for being with us.
ENRIQUE FLORES, STEPHANY`S BROTHER: Thank you very much.
GRACE: Enrique, how is your family? How are your parents tonight?
FLORES: We`re in a lot of pain, but we have to be strong. Some of us (ph) think that (INAUDIBLE) family (INAUDIBLE) family says this moment that it`s happening to us. And that`s why I`m giving this interview.
GRACE: With me, everyone, is Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez`s brother, Enrique Flores. Mr. Flores, did your family have any idea who Joran Van Der Sloot was, that he was suspected in connection with a dead American girl?
FLORES: No. We just find out in Internet because we were trying to reach her. We thought she was kidnapped. And then when we were looking for her, the police (INAUDIBLE) checking the casino video, and they told us the name of this murderer. I don`t remember his name right now -- Joran?
GRACE: Joran Van Der Sloot.
FLORES: Yes. So when my wife heard his name, she put it to Internet, his name, and then we find out that what kind of person he was. And the police saw this in Internet, and that`s why we got worried and the search was more intensive. And a couple hours later, we find out her and she was already dead.
GRACE: Oh, Mr. Flores, I am -- I am so sorry. And our prayers and our condolences to you, your family, your parents. Your father told us that there is evidence from Joran Van Der Sloot on Stephany Tatiana`s body. What is it?
FLORES: The thing is that he beat her up, her face, her body. She -- she -- we can`t recognize her.
GRACE: Oh!
FLORES: I think -- we don`t -- I didn`t -- I don`t know yet what -- what the thing that he got -- I mean, I don`t know. I don`t -- I don`t know that.
GRACE: Enrique, did you go identify your sister`s body?
FLORES: My brother. My brother is the only one that saw her because we decided that one of us first is going to see her and think how -- to see how -- how was she. But he told us that she didn`t even have an eye. She was -- she was unrecognizable. All the body (INAUDIBLE) he said, his neck -- her neck. It was awful.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Breaking story. After a massive manhunt, Joran Van Der Sloot is in custody in Santiago, Chile.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He can`t run to Daddy on this one because Daddy`s dead and he`s not in Aruba.
HOLLOWAY: I`d be surprised if he told the truth this time.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Flores`s father says this time, Van Der Sloot will be held accountable.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): This murderer is detained and pays for all these crimes he has committed.
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): I was talking to her, talking to her, talking to her. And she didn`t say nothing.

HOLLOWAY: He`s hurt us tremendously.

VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): I just touched her, and there wasn`t anything anymore. It was over.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: In the end, nothing came of that, and then...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He is suspected of killing a woman, a 21-year-old woman, in Lima, Peru.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We have evidence he was the killer. We have the tapes of him entering the casino in the same way he killed this woman in Aruba.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This woman is found stabbed, multiple stab wounds on her body, in a hotel room...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): We will have samples of this man`s skin underneath the nails of my daughter.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): How do you know she`s dead, Joran?
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): I just know.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: That hotel room had been rented to Van Der Sloot.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): (INAUDIBLE) the same MO, such a coincidence.
HOLLOWAY: His pattern is the same pattern.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): The only difference, the he gave alcohol to the girl in Aruba and it seems that he gave pills to my daughter.
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): And one time, Patrick, it was just like in the movies. This is what she did.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): Shaking?
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): Yes, very much. So I said to myself, (EXPLETIVE), what is going on?
GRACE: Do you really believe a perfectly healthy young girl, Natalee Holloway, no history of epilepsy...
VAN DER SLOOT (through translator): This is what she did.
GRACE: ... would go out on a beach and suddenly go into convulsions and die?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE (through translator): I hope not one more girl dies in this world and that this murderer pays for all these crimes he has committed.
GRACE: He will continue to prey on other people and maybe get caught. And then there`s the big maybe, whether authorities in Netherland will do anything about it.

GRACE: It has long been predicted here on this show that Joran Van Der Sloot would kill again, but many people thought he couldn`t be so stupid. Well, unfortunately, they were wrong, according to police. Joran Van Der Sloot in the last hours in custody, found on the run, his appearance totally altered, his hair dyed red and buzzcut. He was nearly 3,000 miles away from the last dead body, a 21-year-old girl, beautiful Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez, daughter of a Peruvian businessman, a race car driver, Ricardo Flores.
Her brother is with us tonight. Also with us tonight, a very special guest. Joining is Paul Reynolds. This is Natalee`s uncle. Mr. Reynolds, thank you for being with us.
PAUL REYNOLDS, NATALEE HOLLOWAY`S UNCLE: Thank you for having me.
GRACE: I noticed that Natalee`s family has stayed -- has remained quiet, to a large extent, following the apprehension of Joran Van Der Sloot. How are they taking it all in, Mr. Reynolds?
REYNOLDS: Well, the first thing I would like to say is that our hearts and prayers go out to Stephany`s family. We certainly know what they`re going through and what they will be going through. And it`s a terrible thing that they`re having to experience this. We certainly know that very well. And we`re just very disappointed that he`s been able to, it appears, you know, do this again, you know, take the life of another young girl. So we`re just -- we`re devastated that that`s happened.
GRACE: Well, another thing, Paul Reynolds -- with us is Natalee`s uncle -- is that in many cases like this, it seems to dredge the whole thing up again and make it feel to Natalee`s parents that it has all just happened again, that Natalee has just been victimized all over again. It dredges up to an extent that`s almost unbearable. You know, just when they`re starting to go on with their lives, to an extent, this happens.
REYNOLDS: Well, it`s never gone away. It`s been five years, and ironically, five years to the day.
GRACE: To the day.
REYNOLDS: This has not gone away for our family, and certainly not for Beth. I mean, Beth has spent an incredible amount of time talking to young people about safety and travel safety. She never forgets about Natalee, nor myself, not for a single moment. And so it is just like it was -- just like it was today or yesterday.
GRACE: Another thing, another bombshell today, Paul Reynolds. Finally seeing that Aruba would do absolutely nothing after the death of our American girl, Natalee Holloway, on their soil, apparently, a case of extortion has been announced today by the U.S. federal government against Joran Van Der Sloot. The police report says that Joran Van Der Sloot attempted to extort $50,000 -- $250,000 out of an individual in Birmingham, Alabama, in exchange for the location of Natalee Holloway`s remains.
Paul Reynolds, Natalee`s uncle, is with us. Are you aware of these criminal charges, Mr. Reynolds?
REYNOLDS: I did hear something about the charges this afternoon. It`s a very disgusting thing, something that we -- unfortunately, we would expect from Joran Van Der Sloot. He has been a disgusting individual from the very beginning, his repeated confessions, his lies, his confessions about terrible things that he did to Natalee. There`s just no -- there`s no decency in him at all.
GRACE: Tonight, Joran Van Der Sloot in custody. He will be heading back to a Peruvian jail. And at the same time, today, announced by the U.S. government, a complaint against Joran Van Der Sloot for allegedly attempting to extort $250,000 from a Birmingham, Alabama, individual in exchange for the location of Natalee Holloway`s body.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Peruvian police have said that they have video of Joran Van Der Sloot with the victim both in that casino, and then they`re seen entering the hotel room together.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Take a look at this new video. That is Joran Van Der Sloot, who was just arrested.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Police officers have now taken him into the police station in Santiago. So we know what`s happening now. They`re questioning him.

GRACE: We are taking your calls live. Joining us tonight, in addition to Natalee`s uncle, is a special guest, Enrique Flores. This is Stephany Tatiana Flores Ramirez`s brother. Enrique Flores, thank you again for being with us. I heard you describing your sister`s body. You said it was barely recognizable due to the beating, and that Stephany Tatiana was missing one of her eyes. Did I hear you correctly?
FLORES: It was -- I don`t want to get into details about...
GRACE: I understand. I understand.
FLORES: ... but...
GRACE: I understand, Mr. Flores. Instead of repeating that, would you tell us about Stephany in life. She`s got such a gorgeous smile. Tell me about her as your sister.
FLORES: Well, she was -- she`s the only woman -- I mean, we are four brothers and one sister. She was the only woman in the family (INAUDIBLE) family. She was always happy. She loved to play soccer with us. We (INAUDIBLE)

NANCY GRACE, HOST: We are taking your calls live. I want to go back before we open up the lines to Enrique Flores, this is Stephany Tatiana`s brother. You were telling us about Stephany?
ENRIQUE FLORES, BROTHER OF STEPHANY FLORES RAMIREZ, ALLEGEDLY MURDERED BY JORAN VAN DER SLOOT (via phone): Yes. She was always smiling. She`s like -- today in funeral, he was -- I don`t know (INAUDIBLE) but it was amazing how many people went today to the funeral.
Here in Peru all the channels, all the media was there that helped to capture this guy. I mean we are very thankful, we are very happy to all of the people that have helped us, all the people that were involved in this. We want to say thanks to the police and we want justice. We were waiting for that.
GRACE: With me is Enrique Flores joining us from Lima, Peru. His sister, the victim of Joran Van Der Sloot according to police.
Out to the lines to Jessica. Hi, Jessica. How are you?
JESSICA, CALLER: Hi, Nancy. I`m good, thank you.
GRACE: What`s your question, dear?
JESSICA: Well, my question is, if Joran were to lead the police to Natalee`s body would he be tried in Aruba first then possibly face better prison conditions than in Peru?
GRACE: That`s a good question. Joining us tonight, Meg Strickland -- Meg Strickler, international attorney in Atlanta, Eleanor Odom, sex crimes prosecutor, Renee Rockwell, defense attorney, Peter Odom, defense attorney, Atlanta.
First, to you, Eleanor. I see what she`s saying that if he led police to Natalee`s body or remains in Aruba, he could get a lighter treatment there. But Peru is not going to let go of him. Oh, no. This is a whole another can of worms for Joran Van Der Sloot.
He has killed a Peruvian girl in Peru. And her father -- and believe me, it will count in Peru. Her father is a wealthy businessman and race car driver. They`re not letting him go to get a -- on the wrist in Aruba.
ELEANOR ODOM, PROSECUTOR: No. I suspect they`ll move quickly so that they could go ahead, perhaps get him indicted. They`ll move it quickly to trial and that way -- there he is. And who knows if Aruba will do anything or not at this point?
GRACE: I don`t see Aruba doing a darn thing. They never have. I mean he`s confessed to being there when she died and to getting rid of her body, which is a crime, on multiple occasions on video. They`ve done nothing. Why should they do anything now?
And I want to go back to Jean Casarez.
Jean, what can you tell me about this federal charge now aimed at Joran Van Der Sloot, a U.S. government charge?
JEAN CASAREZ, CORRESPONDENT, "IN SESSION": This is fascinating, Nancy, even with the date alone. The federal government is alleging in this complaint filed today in Birmingham, Alabama that on May 10th of this year that Joran Van Der Sloot willfully and knowingly caused someone -- they don`t say who -- to wire $15,000 from a financial institution in Birmingham to the Netherlands in reliance upon him telling them at the conclusion of $250,000 total where the body of Natalee Holloway.
And Nancy, we`ve learned from authorities that four days later he went from Colombia into Peru.
GRACE: You know, I`m looking at the complaint -- I`ve got it right here -- by the feds. And it says a person. It clearly doesn`t mention a name. Paul Reynolds, Natalee`s uncle, doesn`t allude that it`s his family. I guarantee you it is a sting.
The U.S., the feds, got sick and tired of Joran Van Der Sloot walking free and they set up a sting. I guarantee you that`s what`s happened. Because otherwise they had named the individual. Don`t you think so, Meg Strickler?
MEG STRICKLER, INTERNATIONAL ATTORNEY: Yes, I absolutely agree. Complaints usually mention that. So I don`t think that the United States is doing what they should have done. They saw that one of their citizens was killed and nothing ever came of it so they found a way to make sure that Joran Van Der Sloot was going to prison.
And so now he`s got charges here. He`s going to go to prison here. He`s going to go to prison in Aruba but guess what, Peru is going to keep him and he`s going to serve his sentence there because guess what? The Netherlands are not going to be able to transfer him after he`s sentenced to prison. There is no prison transfer treaty between the two countries.
GRACE: To Naomi Mapstone, journalist joining us from Lima, Peru via Skype.
Naomi, thank you for being with us. About how far had Joran Van Der Sloot made it from Stephany Tatiana`s body? How far had he actually gotten?
NAOMI MAPSTONE, JOURNALIST, ON THE SCENE IN LIMA, PERU: By the time Chilean authorities caught up with him, he had -- he had traveled almost 2,500 kilometers by road.
He gave himself a headstart by putting the "do not disturb" sign on the outside of the hotel door. So police in Peru were not aware of there being a dead body until he`d actually crossed the border into Chile. So once it was known that Van Der Sloot was on the run, authorities actually apprehended him quite quickly.
GRACE: Let me ask you this, Naomi. How did he cross the border? We have been told it was by bus.
MAPSTONE: No. That`s not correct. He -- it`s believed he traveled by a bus part of the way from Lima to (INAUDIBLE), which is a town in the south of Peru. And it was there that he paid around $650 which is much more than your average airfare from Lima to Santiago.
He paid two men to drive him in a taxi first to the border town of (INAUDIBLE) and then he crossed over and landed in the -- a small town in northern Chile and it was at that point that the Chilean authorities began their search.
GRACE: Rupa Mikkilineni, our producer on the story. Rupa, I understand that two taxi drivers have identified a passenger as being Joran Van Der Sloot, that both of the cab drivers say he smoked heavily and that he told one of them he used to live in Aruba.
RUPA MIKKILINENI, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: That`s right, Nancy. He didn`t identify himself by name. But we are told that he chain smoked in this cab. He is a foreigner and looked quite unusual. And when he -- they were interviewed, these cab drivers, by police, they said that this man did say that he was from Aruba.
GRACE: To Renee Rockwell and Peter Odom, defense attorneys joining us tonight. This is a whole another ball game, Renee Rockwell. Back home in Aruba he was treated like a favorite house pet there in the jail. Now when you read all the accounts from Lima and from Peru they refer to him as simply the Dutchman or the foreigner.
RENEE ROCKWELL, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: And the one that got away in Aruba. But, Nancy, you have a whole different scenario here. Because not only do we have a body --
GRACE: It`s not that different.
ROCKWELL: But I do understand besides the body that there is physical evidence probably under her fingernails. God forbid that she put up a fight. And so you will probably see more swift justice and I`m sure Aruba is quite embarrassed about what has happened in Peru.
GRACE: They`re not embarrassed. They are proud. They`ve had five years to the day Stephany Tatiana was murdered to do something.
And to you, Peter Odom, it`s not that different. In both cases it was a young girl with her friends at a casino. They get separated from her friends. Natalee`s family has long said he used date rape drug on her. We find date rape drug in this scenario.
Takes her away. A hotel room is involved. And the girl is dead. I mean, come on.
PETER ODOM, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Nancy --
GRACE: They`re practically the same age.
P. ODOM: Nancy, from a defense attorney`s perspective, this case is an absolute nightmare already. The circumstantial evidence alone -- forget any physical evidence that they gather and believe me they`re going to gather plenty.
Unless I miss my guess, the circumstantial evidence that he was in the hotel room alone with her, that it was his hotel room, that he left and was found 2500 miles away is very damning.

LINDA, CALLER FROM VIRGINIA: Hi, Nancy. The last caller asked my question. My question was, you know, if he has a good defense attorney and, you know, I`m sure the family has means. If he confesses to Natalee Holloway`s murder will they extradite him back to Aruba or no? And will Peru be seeking the death penalty on him?
GRACE: In Peru it`s my understanding that the death penalty is reserved for killing a cop or treason during time of war. Those are the only two circumstances under which he can get the death penalty in Peru.
He doesn`t qualify for DP, Linda in Virginia. But as far as him going back to Aruba -- listen, Peru does not want to share Joran Van Der Sloot. Maybe after he does 80, 90 years behind bars in Peru, then Aruba can have a crack at him.
And another thing, to you, Eleanor, if I were Peru, I would be afraid to send him to Aruba. I would be concerned somehow he`d escape.
E. ODOM: Exactly. And then you`d never see him again. And where`s the justice there? I think this is the only way we can get justice.
GRACE: Joining me right now, special guest, Jossy Mansur, managing director of a "Diario Aruba."
Jossy, it`s wonderful to hear your voice again. What is the reaction in Aruba to this latest murder charge?
JOSSY MANSUR, MANAGING DIRECTOR, DIARIO ARUBA: Well, I`m shocked. People are very shocked again. People who used to defend him in the past are now totally against him. People are applauding his arrest today. And now we are confident that justice will be done, the justice that should have been done and always wanted to be done now in Peru.
GRACE: Many of the callers are asking is -- are Aruba authorities the least bit embarrassed that because they never charged him with murder and put him behind bars for Natalee`s murder? Now he has been free to murder again.
MANSUR: Well, they should be because they have evidence -- incriminating evidence on the tape from Eem (ph). They know that the police tape. I mean they should have prosecuted him then. They should have taken him to court. Then he would have been in jail and perhaps this could have been avoided.
GRACE: Has there been any mention of that in Aruba?
MANSUR: Any mention?
GRACE: Has anyone discussed it openly in Aruba that they were wrong?
MANSUR: Yes. Yes. The papers here and the radio stations and the television stations are full of it. Every single detail. We are in contact with our colleagues in Lima. And we got every single news from there and everything has been produced here.
GRACE: We are taking your calls. Out to Toni in Texas. Hi, Toni.
TONI, CALLER FROM TEXAS: Hi, Nancy. How are you tonight?
GRACE: I`m good, dear. What`s your question?
TONY: My question is, this young man has been free to travel all over. And I`m having a very hard team believing that these are the only two victims. I think there are more victims out there.
GRACE: I think you could very well be right. What about it, Paul Penzone? Paul, director of Prevention Programs, Childhelp.org, former sergeant, Phoenix, PD.
What about it, Paul?
PAUL PENZONE, DIRECT OF PREVENTION PROGRAMS, CHILDHELP.ORG, FMR. SERGEANT, PHOENIX PD: Well, I think the first thing to take into consideration is just how brutally violent this case was. My prayers go out to both families of these victims.
But because he is so accessible, travels so much, it`s not an impossibility. You hope it`s not the case but I just -- I`m amazed at the amount of rage it must have taken to inflict the injuries that Mr. Flores was describing on his sister. It`s just heart-breaking.
GRACE: You know when I heard him describing his sister, from what I could make out -- he was joining us from Lima. He said she was beaten so badly that she was barely recognizable and that she was missing an eyeball.
Did you make that out, Paul?
PENZONE: And you know what? Normally when you see violence of that level, there`s a long relationship. There`s intimacy involved and that`s where that rage comes from. But for someone to be that violent, be truly possessed what a psychopathic behavior, and I`m not a clinician. But I`m standing from a law enforcement background, that is brutal and extreme and that`s a lot of rage and violence. He`s a very, very dangerous man.
GRACE: Let`s go to Dr. Jeff Gardere, psychologist and host of VH1`s "Dad Camp," as well as author of many, many books.
Dr. Jeff, what about it, the degree of rage and the attack on this girl? He just met her.
JEFF GARDERE, PSYCHOLOGIST, HOST OF VH1`S "DAD CAMP": Absolutely. This guy is a psychopath. Anti-social personality disorder. Manifesting in aggression, sadistic behavior, perverted criminal behavior. There may be other bodies.

GRACE: Dr. Marty Makary, physician and professor of public health, Johns Hopkins, joining us out of Washington, D.C.
Dr. Marty, thank you for being with us as always. Dr. Marty, you have reviewed the crimes inflicted on this girl. We know of a broken neck, stab wounds, massive beating. What do you believe was the actual cause of death?
DR. MARTY MAKARY, PHYSICIAN, PROF. OF PUBLIC HEALTH, JOHNS HOPKINS: Well, the autopsy is pending. I think it will come out probably sometime next week. But it looks like from these injuries, the injuries you describe, a cervical or neck fracture. Those injuries require a high degree of velocity or force.
These are things that are planned. These are not accidents. They`re not related to falls. And autopsies can be very specific about the mechanism of death.
Given what we`ve also heard from the father, that the police may have found pills in a car which appear to be similar to rape pills, commonly Rufinol or some sedative, it may be a combination of a very well orchestrated major crime here.
GRACE: What is that Gamma hydroxybutyrate, GHB? What does it do to you, the date rape drug? Does it knock you out like alcohol? How does it affect you exactly?
MAKARY: Not quite. You know, it`s interesting. It knocks out your memory of what happens and it sedates you or makes you calm during the moment. An overdose obviously would kill you but it`s well designed to not do too much but enough so you don`t remember.
GRACE: Out to the lines, Kelly, Pennsylvania. Hi, Kelly.
KELLY, CALLER FROM PENNSYLVANIA: Hello. I have a question.
GRACE: OK.
KELLY: He`s altered his appearance. He looks really smug. Why is he not in handcuffs?
GRACE: You know, I was wondering that, too. What about it? To you, Jean Casarez. He`s not in handcuffs. Why?
CASAREZ: I was thinking that, too. I was wondering if the government was just trying to make a statement that they are not abusive, that they were taking him willingly into the police department but it was very noticeable.
