Joran Motive Mystery

Aired June 16, 2010 - 19:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HOST (voice-over): Tonight, outrageous developments in the Joran Van Der Sloot case. The slow wheels of justice will prevent Aruban authorities from questioning Joran about the location of Natalee`s body for another two to three months.

Why? Could it be designed to let him stew in a Peruvian prison as evidence mounts until he`s finally ready to crack? And what`s the real motive behind the murder of Stephany Flores?

Plus, it`s been long nine months since Mitrice Richardson was released from a Southern California jail in the middle of the night. Never to be seen again. Now in a horrifying revolting twist, the family says it stumbled on a freshly painted racist, pornographic mural resembling Mitrice as they search for her.

Is this a sinister message for her family? I`ll talk to Mitrice`s devastated mother.

Then, a head-spinning stunner in the Gary Coleman case. Another bizarre 911 call surfaces. This one from four months ago. Ex-wife Shannon Price is claiming Gary`s suicidal.

Plus, tonight ISSUES goes deep into the war raging over the former child star`s will.

ISSUES starts now.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Head-spinning, breaking news out of Peru. Was Joran Van Der Sloot watching his alleged victim for days before luring her back to his hotel room and then savagely murdering her?

Did Joran have money on his mind as he allegedly beat Stephany Flores Ramirez to a pulp, strangling her and smothering her with the shirt right off his back.

Brand-new, shocking reports claimed Peruvian police now believe Joran first met Stephany three days before her brutal murder.

Did Joran silently watch Stephany -- a very talented poker player -- rake in thousands of dollars at a popular casino in Lima while plotting to rob her blind? Tonight, is the real motive for Stephany`s murder cold hard cash?

Joran claims he snapped and lost it when Stephany saw a message on his laptop about Natalee Holloway`s disappearance. He allegedly confessed that in a violent burst of anger he elbowed Stephany hard in the nose and then suffocated her. But now the authorities doubt that part of his confession.

Is he lying yet again?

Plus, inside Joran`s twisted mind, an ex-girlfriend`s secret diary paints a picture of a playboy who was jealous, upset, and of course a pathological liar.

Plus brand-new info, Aruban authorities will go to Peru and interrogate Joran about Natalee Holloway`s disappearance but not for a couple of months. Peruvian authorities first want to wrap up their investigation into Stephany Flores` murder.

So he`s going to sit there and he`s going to stew in that Peruvian prison for a couple of months before he gets to play that card of where`s Natalee.

I want to hear from you on all of this. Call me, 1-877-JVM-SAYS. That`s 1-877-586-7297.

Straight out to my fantastic expert panel. But first, straight to Jean Casarez, correspondent extraordinaire with "In Session" on TruTV. She is live in Peru in the center of all the drama.

Jean, what is the very latest?

JEAN CASAREZ, CORRESPONDENT, "IN SESSION" on TRUTV: Well, it is official, Jane. Here in Lima, we understand that Joran Van Der Sloot will go before a judge on Monday. That`s June 21st.

Now according to Peruvian law, this is mandatory. He must make a formal statement before the judge, his honor. And that is something he cannot refuse to do. And that`s because the judge plays a pivotal role in the procedure. He is the fact-finder in essence.

There`s a prosecutor, there`s a defense attorney, but there is the judge that is the main person as we go forward in this criminal suit against Joran Van Der Sloot.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Are we going to be able to see him in court or just another crazy mob scene as he`s taken to court and taken from court?

CASAREZ: Well, here`s what`s interesting. The procedure is supposed to take place right behind me in the palace of justice. But because this is such a high-profile case with so many security concerns, the judge is going to go to the jail.

Cameras will not be allowed. The public will not see it. But when the first hearing happens in this case, it will be a public hearing. Because here in Peru, courts are open to the public.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Now tonight, authorities, as you heard, are doubting part of Joran`s confession to Stephany`s murder. Specifically that he snapped and killed her suddenly in a rage after a message popped up on his laptop computer about Natalee Holloway.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

RUPA MIKKILINENI, PRODUCER, HLN`S NANCY GRACE: In part of the confession, Van Der Sloot says that Flores struck him first, with her fist. Now there are no markings on Van Der Sloot. So there are no suggestions that in fact Flores assaulted him at all which is why they don`t believe Van Der Sloot.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Now we still have not heard what they exactly found on Joran`s computer. For example, we don`t know if Joran completely made up this whole instant message story to try to make the killing of Stephany Flores look unpremeditated.

Unpremeditated murder means much less prison time than robbery that results in murder, which is the one thing it seems in Peru can get you a life sentence.

Weigh in on this, Drew Findling, criminal defense attorney. Is he going out of his way to make what was essentially, according to cops now, they theorize a robbery look like, oops, I just suddenly snapped?

DREW FINDLING, CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY: I think robbery is probably part of it. But I do not think you can ignore the five-year anniversary of the Holloway missing and murder situation. I think that this guy is really problematic.

And robbery may be part of it. But it goes a lot deeper than that. I`ve represented a lot of people charged with murder. And you cannot underestimate what`s going on in his mind. I do not think that robbery is primarily his motive.

I just think this is a -- simply put, a really sick dude that kills people.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: But that would make it even more premeditated if he was planning to commit a crime --

FINDLING: Absolutely.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: -- on the fifth anniversary of Natalee`s disappearance that will be --

FINDLING: I think it has to be taken into --

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Doubly premeditated.

FINDLING: I think that has to be taken into consideration. And you can rest assured even though it`s in Peru, they`re doing a forensic recovery from his computer that is going to be extremely specific and precise.

And I wouldn`t be surprised -- they`ve already indicated they may lean on the FBI if the FBI gets involved with their knowledge, in that recovery.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: They are going to get the FBI involved. They`re going to give all the information to the FBI who will in turn give it to the Aruban authorities.

And speaking of Aruba, we are delighted to have Jossy Mansur on tonight. And he of course the managing director of the big newspaper down in Aruba, "Diario."

Jossy, first of all, I`ve been itching to ask you, what is the reaction from the people of Aruba in general to all of these latest developments, the arrest of Joran Van Der Sloot in Peru for the murder of another woman on the fifth anniversary of Natalee`s disappearance?

JOSSY MANSUR, MANAGING DIRECTOR, DIARIO ARUBA: The people of Aruba are disgusted in a way you have no idea. You cannot imagine. I mean, for the most part, people are thinking, let him stay in Peru, let him serve his sentence over there.

Bringing him to Aruba, they`re going to have to apply Aruban law. So to the sentence again, and that would be another obstacle in the path of justice.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right. Julie, Massachusetts, your question or thought, ma`am?

JULIE, CALLER FROM MASSACHUSETTS: My question is, can the FBI get a warrant to get access to his laptop in Peru? Maybe there`s information on there that will actually lead them to Natalee`s remains.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, it`s a very good question, John Lucich, former criminal investigator. We understand that the FBI will be given all the information, and perhaps the answer to the mystery of Natalee lies in that computer. Perhaps he wrote something that reveals the location.

JOHN LUCICH, FORMER CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR: Absolutely. Everything you do on a computer is there forever. And one of the most interesting things about this computer, I want to see how long he`s been using this.

Has this been around for five years? It could host a treasure trove of information that not only brings him down in this case, but brings him down on the other case as well.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Here`s my big issue tonight. Money, motive. Did Joran plan to rob Stephany to feed an extreme gambling addiction?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

JOHN LUDWICK, FRIEND OF JORAN VAN DER SLOOT: I`d say he had a gambling addiction. But he played poker almost every night. I know he had money because he ran a coffee shop in Thailand. So he had some money saved for that.

But after a while, his money started running low. And that`s when I guess he tried to contact John Kelly, or Beth Holloway and that stuff happened. When he ran out -- started running out of money.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Joran gambling and reportedly dead broke. He allegedly blew -- get this -- 25 grand that he extorted only recently, purported from Natalee`s family. Enter Stephany. She`s a fantastic poker player on a winning streak.

If Joran was watching her for three days and saw her win thousands and thousands of dollars, and he was desperate for cash, isn`t that motive?

Let`s go back out to Jean Casarez, live in Peru.

What do you know about these new reports that he met her several days before the murder?

CASAREZ: We can confirm that. Authorities told us last week it was the 27th of May that he met her. And he even said in his confession that they had spoken on the phone, that Stephany had called him from the time they met to when she obviously died.

And he said that he had a Peruvian chip in his belongings that were with police somewhere that could show that she had called him.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. So I mean this changes the equation, Jean. This isn`t just snapping. If he knew her for days, he`s broke, she`s making money at the casinos, she`s a better gambler than he. He may become jealous. He may say, I should have that money, not her. And that`s a motive right there. Jean?

CASAREZ: You know what else -- you know what else we heard? We heard on -- this is coming from officials so this is confirmed that on May 24th she won $10,000. On May 28th, her father gave her another $1,000. And then he said in his confession that she won that night and he didn`t. So that even adds to her money.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes. And, oh, he hates women. He`s a misogynist. So she`s sitting next to him at poker and doing better than he is? That`s got to make somebody very angry.

All right. We`re taking your calls on this. 1-877-JVM-SAYS. Give me a holler.

And more Gary Coleman drama. A second bizarre 911 call from ex-wife Shannon Price surfaces. You will not believe what she says this time.

Plus more twists and turns in the case of Joran Van Der Sloot.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DAVE HOLLOWAY, NATALEE HOLLOWAY`S FATHER: I hope THAT he comes clean. He`s got an account to settle, and I hope he settles it on this earth this time. If he doesn`t, you know, God bless him.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GLORIA ALLRED, VICTIMS` RIGHTS ADVOCATE: Let me just say one more thing about gambling. It may be that Joran Van Der Sloot has taken the biggest gamble of his life. That would be killing Stephany and thinking he could get away with it.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Tonight, mind-blowing new developments in the Joran Van Der Sloot murder case. Joran must give his statement in court this coming Monday.

Are we going to see another crazy mob scene? Cameras will not be allowed. But will Joran admit to a judge that he got angry and lost control, beating, strangling and smothering 21-year-old Stephany Flores Ramirez?

Tonight as we`ve been telling you authorities are poking holes in Joran`s confession saying they think he was after her money that she won at the gambling table.

Mark, Arizona, your question or thought?

MARK, CALLER FROM ARIZONA: My thought is, is that he asked this friend for money from Texas and she -- he needed money. So obviously he was out there, you know, planning this whole thing. And he -- I think he planned to kill her right off the bat.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes, I mean, absolutely. We heard Drew Findling talk about the fact that all this went down on the fifth anniversary of Natalee`s disappearance. And one thing I`ve learned covering murder for 30 years is that everything in a crime has significance, either on a conscious or a subconscious level.

And nothing is really by accident because most of these criminals are flying blind. They are guided by -- they don`t even know what they`re guided by because their subconscious is operating. And they`re not self- aware. And they`re not self-realized. So their impulses take them over.

And I honestly do believe, John Lucich -- you`re the criminal investigator -- that this fifth anniversary had such an important psychological meaning for him, that his rage bubbled up and subconsciously he may have been driven to re-enact some crime that he hasn`t been charged with, Natalee`s -- whatever happened to her -- on the fifth anniversary.

LUCICH: Jane, that`s a possibility. And the investigation will bear that out if that`s the truth. The one thing about --

VELEZ-MITCHELL: No, they will -- it won`t. Not necessarily. We`re never going to get inside his twisted, sick brain and know exactly -- here`s the thing about motive, people. There`s two motives. There`s the conscious motive or motives and then there`s the subconscious motives.

And the subconscious motives are a mystery even to the person committing the crime because they are flying blind, they are not self- aware. Am I making myself clear?

Drew Findling, help me out here.

FINDLING: Well, I think -- I think you are. I think that we cannot ignore the series of lies and false statements he has made for the past half a decade. I think that moves beyond just a conscious decision to lie. I don`t think this guy even understands when he`s telling the truth or not telling the truth.

Now that being said, I think what we`ve seen is a lining up, unfortunately, of the stars for this guy in that, you know, you always use the term, Jane, a rageaholic. And I think we`re seeing a guy addicted to gambling. But I don`t think that`s the reason.

These fraudsters that gamble every day and use people in Vegas and Atlantic City, they don`t kill people. And I think we see this rageaholic as a -- as a gambling addicted person and the two combined, and he may have seen her on the Internet.

But man, what he did as a result was a terrible combination of the two, which resulted in him killing somebody. And it may be, and most likely, is not the first time he`s killed somebody.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: OK, you got to look at -- that video that we were just looking at with him with the coffee cup, she`s dead in that room. OK? When he is walking around with those coffee cups trying to make it look like he`s bringing her coffee, she is already dead.

And he is knocking on the door -- look at that glazed look in his eyes. He admitted to having 10 whiskeys that night. And he is -- he`s actually mugging for the cameras, it would appear, trying to make it look like he`s bringing coffee.

There is the hotel worker who`s letting him in after he claims he got locked out. So he`s trying to create an alibi that, oh, I was just getting her coffee, and then -- but look at the risk he takes.

This guy, this hotel worker could have got in there and seen her dead body. I saw the pictures. There was blood all over the room.

What kind of person, John Lucich, criminal investigator, takes a risk like that by getting a hotel employee to let him into a room where there`s a dead body right on the other side?

LUCICH: There`s no doubt, Jane. This guys is a cold-blooded killer. He`s a slick guy. He`s got a lot of experience in the criminal justice system and a lot of experience dealing with the media.

But one thing the cops are going to be focusing on is intent and motive here. One thing about casinos, cameras all over the place, high- resolution detailed cameras. They`re going to be able to see this guy watching her from all angles.

There`s no doubt that that`s what they`re going on right now and that`s what they`re pinning their case on. You know whether this guy`s a nutjob and whether this guy planned this or not, the fact that he killed her, if it was a robbery attempt and he was able to show that there was motive and he was planning this, he`s going down on that.

And that -- and in the end, that`s what matters.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And he is going to be stewing at a Peruvian prison until September. And let`s see how he feels when Aruban authorities arrive there, finally in September, after he sits there and fears for his life for two long months.

Nine months ago, Southern California cops released Mitrice Richardson in the middle of the night without a phone, without money, without a ride home. This young woman has not been seen since. And now her mother is joining me here on ISSUES to talk about the latest hideous, vicious discovery, a sick mural.

And more on the Joran Van Der Sloot case. Next.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

LINDA ALLISON, NATALEE HOLLOWAY`S AUNT: I tell you, we try to keep our composure on television. And it`s really difficult. And we go through all those emotions. We`re upset. We`re desperate. We`re -- so many different things. We get -- of course, the emotional, we get very sad.

(END OF VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Check out this brand-new picture of Joran being examined in Peru. Take a look at his chest tattoo. Guess what it says, "no worries" in Thai. Wow. You know Joran may need to scratch off the "no" because he is about to be facing a lot of worries, a whole lot of worries in that perilous Peruvian prison. Maybe he can change it to lots of worries.

And take a look at his expression. He`s rolling his eyes there. You know, oh, the indignity of having to be examined and treated like a prisoner.

You should have thought of that before, dude.

Kevin, Florida, your question or thought?

KEVIN, CALLER FROM FLORIDA: Hi, Jane.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Hey.

KEVIN: Hey, I have two quick questions.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: OK.

KEVIN: One is, you know, if he hit her as hard as he says he did with his elbow, shouldn`t he have some kind of mark on one of his elbows? You can clearly see both his elbows when he`s coming out of the hotel room while he`s holding the coffee cups. There`s no marks whatsoever on him.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: OK. I think that`s an excellent point. Yes, go ahead, quick.

KEVIN: The second question is, doesn`t Peru have all the leverage here? Can`t they sit this guy down and say, look, son, you tell us where Miss Holloway is and what happened to her, and we`ll keep you in solitary confinement. If you don`t tell us, we`ll put you in the general population.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, you`ve made an excellent point. I want to bring in Ines Ferre, CNN Espanol correspondent.

Let`s try to understand where the authorities in Latin America are coming from. I mean now they`re thrust on the world stage. We`ve got a Dutchman as a suspect, an American as a previous victim.

And they`ve really done a great job up to this point of really cracking a guy, to a certain degree, that the rest of the world couldn`t seem to deal with.

So what is Peru -- what`s happening in Peru now in terms of this is a cultural experience?

INES FERRE, CNN ESPANOL CORRESPONDENT: Yes. I mean, the authorities really know that -- I mean, that the entire world is watching this case. So it`s so huge. And in Peru, it`s very huge. And in fact, there they call him the Dutchman, (speaking in foreign language), so you walk down the street and you talk about the Dutchman, and they know exactly who you`re talking about.

I mean this story has been so huge. And in fact, the competition for the story has been huge also with the media down there.

And Jane, it`s not uncommon for media -- local media to pay for videos, to pay for documentation. And that`s what they`ve been doing because it`s so intense. It`s such an intense case.

But as far as the authorities are concerned, I mean this has all happened pretty quickly. That they apprehended him, they brought him from Chile to Peru. And they know that the world is watching this case. It`s a very high-profile case. So they want to make sure that they get it right.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And, you know, we live in a global village today. Our show that we`re doing right now is seen in 89 countries. So people all across Latin America, and in Aruba, they see us, and so we`re all experiencing this bizarre case together.

And that is a really fascinating aspect of the case, is that we`re all kind of watching this and playing detective.

Stay with us. Mitrice Richardson vanished nine months ago. And a new search turns up what might be a disturbing message for her family. It`s a sick message. I`ll talk to her mom in a second.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: It`s been nine long months since Mitrice Richardson was released from a southern California jail in the middle of the night, never to be seen again. Now in a horrifying, revolting twist, the family says it has stumbled on a freshly-painted, racist, pornographic mural resembling Mitrice as they search for her. Is this a sinister message for her family? I`ll talk to Mitrice`s devastated mother.

Then, a head-spinning stunner in the Gary Coleman case: a bizarre 911 call surfaces from four months ago. Ex-wife Shannon is claiming Gary is suicidal.

Plus, tonight, ISSUES goes deep into the war raging over the former child star`s will.

But first, an update on the latest in the Joran Van Der Sloot case. Shocking new reports out of Peru: are Aruban and Peruvian authorities putting out a carrot and stick scenario.

Straight out to correspondent, Jean Casarez, who`s live in Lima, Peru -- Jean, bring us up to speed with the big developments today.

JEAN CASAREZ, CORRESPONDENT, "IN SESSION": Well, from here in Lima, it`s official. On Monday, June 21st, Joran Van Der Sloot will actually be face-to-face with the judge to give his formal statement to his honor. Now, in Peruvian law this is mandatory. He cannot refuse to do it.

It`s normally done at the Palace of Justice right behind me, but this time it`s going to be done at the jail. The judge will go to the jail because of all the high security issues.

Now, along with that, although Peruvian officials have not commented, Aruba released a press release today, saying that the Peruvian government is going to allow them or to facilitate a conversation, interrogation between Aruban police and prosecutors and Joran Van Der Sloot here in Peru to find the truth out of the Natalee Holloway case. Joran Van Der Sloot told police he wanted to clarify with Aruban authorities the issue of Natalee Holloway.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes, isn`t it a shocker that suddenly when he`s rotting in a Peruvian prison, oh, now, all of a sudden after five years, he wants to clarify Natalee Holloway`s disappearance. Now that he`s afraid for his life, now that he`s afraid of whatever indignities he could suffer at the hands of other Peruvian inmates, now that his best friend behind bars is a Colombian hitman. Now he wants to clarify.

All right. We`re going to stay on top of that case and bring you the very latest. Check in with ISSUES tomorrow. You know there will be more new bizarre developments, because that`s the way this case is.

Meantime, we`re switching gears. We`re going to talk about some horrifying, horrifying new twists in the desperate search for Mitrice Richardson. Tonight, could a sexist and racist graffiti mural provide cops with new clues? Mitrice vanished nine months ago. She was arrested when she couldn`t pay her bill at a swanky Malibu restaurant. Witnesses say she was incoherent, acting crazy.

This poor young woman was taken to the police station. She was booked and then just like that, she was released at 1:30 in the morning in a remote area. She hasn`t been seen since. She did not have her car, or her cell phone or her wallet. So why did cops let her go smack in the middle of the night?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

LEO TERRELL, ATTORNEY FOR MITRICE RICHARDSON`S FAMILY: If Mitrice Richardson`s name was Spears or Lohan they would never let her walk out by herself. They would have escorted her home.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Mitrice`s heartbroken family has refused to give up hope, searching everywhere for their precious daughter, demanding answers from police.

Tonight a horrifying new discovery: a racist and sexist mural was found during a recent search for Mitrice. Take a look at it. We`re going to show you -- we had to blur it, actually because it`s that pornographic. Ok. Way too pornographic for TV. Spray-painted pictures of naked women, all in sexual poses; and they even have similar haircuts to Mitrice. Ok? The paint found at the scene still fresh.

What the heck does this mean? It`s sick. It`s sinister.

Joining me now, Mitrice`s heart broken mother, Latice Sutton; also Judge Karen Mills Francis; and we`re also honored to have the father of Amber Dubois, Mo Dubois. The body of his daughter was found back in March, also in southern California.

I begin with Latice. You`re already going through so much searching for your missing daughter. What was your reaction when you found this mural? What ran through you when you saw this vicious stuff?

LATICE SUTTON, MOTHER OF MITRICE RICHARDSON: I can`t even begin to describe the horror that went through my body because is not just some random mural that is painted. This is very symbolic. It`s a message.

And to me, what that mural describes is various stages in which they have taken a woman, or my -- or just simply my daughter through in whatever sexual, perverted dealings they have. But this is not a coincidence. I`m just absolutely appalled. This is such a hateful message to women in general.

And then the fact that it`s of an African-American woman that people knew we were coming out to look for. I don`t think this was an accident.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, it`s sick. And it`s pornographic. And it`s racist.

Is it connected to your daughter`s disappearance? As you said, everybody knew, we were announcing it on the air that you were going to be searching for your daughter in that area. The paint was wet. They found paint brushes nearby with wet paint. It`s pornographic.

So what message do you think is being sent, Latice? And also did cops tell you whether they confiscated the paint brushes and are dusting them for fingerprints to see if somebody`s sick enough to do this, and this had to take hours and hours and hours, it`s not one little graffiti scroll. You can see it goes through a whole long wall.

If somebody`s sick enough to do that, who knows what they`re capable of?

SUTTON: Oh, absolutely. And what this mural of hate tells me is that they are showing me what they are doing to my daughter, the torment that they are causing to my daughter.

As far as the police authorities, they have collected evidence, and they have shared with me that the progression of the investigation is ongoing. However, they are not giving me specifics. I want to know who, who is this connected to, what have they learned from the paint brushes and the paint lids?

You know, I`m not -- I don`t want to continue to hear generic answers. I want answers to my questions.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Judge Karen Mills-Francis, former Miami-Dade County judge. This is really horrifying. What do you make of it?

JUDGE KAREN MILLS-FRANCIS, FORMER MIAMI-DADE COUNTY JUDGE: The question I have about this whole thing, Jane, is why isn`t the FBI investigating this case?

I read a news piece, the FBI statement is that they don`t investigate cases involving missing adults. We know that`s not true, because Natalee Holloway was 18 years old when she went missing, not in this country, but in a foreign country. And if you go to the FBI`s Web site, there`s a great big full-page poster with a picture of Natalee Holloway, and an indication that the FBI is investigating her whereabouts.

(CROSSTALK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I agree with you. I think the FBI should be involved.

Maurice Dubois, tragically, you`ve become an expert in these heartbreaking searches. Your 14-year-old daughter, precious girl, Amber, vanished in 2009, her body found in rural San Diego. And she was a victim of a monster by the name of John Gardner, who also raped and murdered 17- year-old Chelsea King. And my heart goes out to you and your family and the King family.

What do you make of this latest discovery? Because I know you`re helping the Mitrice Richardson family search for her.

MAURICE DUBOIS, FATHER OF AMBER DUBOIS: Well, yes, we are.

First of all, I`d just like to say thank you, Jane, for addressing this horrific issue, of this family desperately searching for their missing child. And personally, just the fact that these hate groups are out in this immediate area, to me, it just emphasizes why law enforcement should really take a second look at some of these people and some of these organizations that are out there, because like you said, this isn`t the work of one person in an hour. This is a very intricate mural that they took the time to send this message out.

So I really hope law enforcement really takes this very seriously.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I`ve got to say, this is one of the more disturbing things I have seen recently. Again, if you`re looking at it, this had to take a long time. Who knows if there`s even more than one person involved in it.

Again, I have to ask, did the cops, Latice, confiscate the paint brushes? Do you know if they`re dusting them for fingerprints?

SUTTON: That is their claim, yes. They have confiscated the paint brushes, the paint lids and various other items that were found at the scene. And they are processing it to find who was involved with this horrific mural.

And that one in the wheelchair, that kills me.

(CROSSTALK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I mean let`s face it. Let`s face it -- what did you say?

SUTTON: I said the depiction of the young woman, the young African- American woman in the wheelchair with her arms being pulled forward. That one affects me the most because it`s like -- what are they telling me? Is my daughter in a wheelchair at this point? What have they done to her? They`re hurting her.

And we need FBI involvement to help us get out here and investigate and find out who would commit this.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right.

You know what, we`re extending this. This is so horrific. We have to extend it to the next segment.

Hold on. And we`re also going to talk about the alleged gunman in the Alabama shootings, Amy Bishop now facing charges in another crime from two decades ago.

And Gary Coleman`s untimely death creating a war over his will. I`m going to talk to Gary`s former agent, who is now the agent for his ex- wife, who`s under fire.

We`ve got so much. But we`re going to get back to, as well, this horror story involving this missing -- missing woman. Stay with us.

Ok. With Father`s Day coming up, we`re saluting dads. Katy from Gratis, Connecticut calls her dad Mike a real hero. She says he will be 12 years sober next month. Way to go, Katy`s had her own struggles. Fit family --

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MICHAEL RICHARDSON, MITRICE RICHARDSON`S FATHER: I`m upset. But I`m going to keep a level head, because I`ve been asked to. But I don`t expect for these people to move, because they haven`t.

LATTICE SUTTON, MITRICE RICHARDSON`S MOTHER: We want our daughter found. We feel that there`s not been enough effort to locate her. All we want is our daughter home.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Here is my big issue tonight. We need more detective work on this case of missing Mitrice Richardson. And now, we have, along with the searches, this discovery, this horrific discovery of a mural -- we`re going to show it to you again -- that was on the search route.

They were searching for Mitrice recently. We can`t even show you the mural because it`s pornographic. And the worst part is that the depiction of the African-American female matches up with the hairstyle that Mitrice was wearing. So this could be a direct message to Mitrice Richardson.

We called the sheriffs today to try to find out what they`re doing to investigate this. We have not heard back.

But Latice, you`re the missing woman`s mother. The fact that the hairstyle is the same, to me, is the most disturbing. Because it`s not just generically racist, it seems like it is specifically directed at your daughter on the search route. That`s what disturbs me.

SUTTON: Absolutely, as well as the blue painting of the woman on her hands and knees with the "L.A." that is written on her buttocks with the cigarette of some sort coming out of her mouth.

So it is my opinion that the perpetrator, or perpetrators that`s violating Mitrice is actually watching. Because there are so many overtones as to what has been stated, as far as Mitrice`s demeanor and what occurred that night. This is not an accident. This is not coincidental. And we need the federal investigations to start an investigation yesterday. We need them.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Maurice Dubois, what should cops be doing with this information?

DUBOIS: Well, of course, you know, you really need to address the issue of these groups that are out there. And these law enforcement officers, the ones in the area are really familiar with where these groups` whereabouts are. They know who they are.

They need to really put pressure on these groups and find out who the actual individuals are, who did this. Because they know the areas, they know the people in their jurisdiction. It`s just a matter of them getting in -- getting more involved and wanting to find out the answers to this, you know?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right.

DUBOIS: It`s that need to want to find the answer.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Listen, we`ve got to wrap this up. But I -- please, Maurice and Latice, please come back soon. We`re not letting this go. I mean, this is -- it`s one of the most revolting things I have seen in a long time. And we want to stay on top of this story and demand answers.

MILLS-FRANCIS: Yes.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Thank you all. And I know, Judge Karen, you`re going to stick with us for the next story.

Stunning news tonight, a decision in the Gary Coleman death drama: the "Diff`rent Strokes" star who died after falling in his home last month will be cremated. But his ashes will be put away until a judge decides who controls his estate.

Shannon Price, Gary`s ex-wife, is locked in a heated legal battle with Gary`s mysterious friend, Anna Gray, who just surfaced days ago. Each woman claims she is in charge of all things Gary, including his remains.

Meantime, TMZ got a hold of a bizarre 911 call made by Shannon this past January. Check this out.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

SHANNON PRICE, GARY COLEMAN`S EX-WIFE: My husband freaked out last night, called the cops. They were going to arrest him. He`s freaking out again, you know, hitting his head on the wall. Knocked a fan over, he`s just being crazy again.

911 OPERATOR: Is he suicidal?

PRICE: Yes, he`s suicidal. But I just don`t know what his problem is.

911 OPERATOR: Does he have any weapons?

PRICE: No.

911 OPERATOR: Has he been drinking?

PRICE: No.

911 OPERATOR: Has he been doing any drugs?

PRICE: No.

911 OPERATOR: Is he being physical with you?

PRICE: No.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow, that was strange. What was going on in that house? And what was going through Shannon`s mind at the time. We`re going to try to get some answers tonight from somebody who knows her very well.

And I am taking your calls on this.

Straight out to my fantastic panel: still here with me, Judge Karen Mills-Francis. We`re also going to check in with my good buddy, Carlos Diaz -- there he is -- entertainment journalist and syndicated radio host; and Sheila Erickson, Shannon Price`s spokesperson and former acting agent.

Carlos, first we`re going to go out to you. What is the very latest? I can`t keep up with this case.

CARLOS DIAZ, SYNDICATED RADIO HOST: Well, the very latest is that Gary Coleman is going to get his wish. He wanted to be cremated and he did not want a big memorial, a big funeral, if you will, for him.

So that is what was stipulated in the 2005 will. And the judges said today that there will be no memorial for Gary Coleman until they can sort out this whole will mess.

Now of course, Jane, you remember the whole Anna Nicole Smith thing. The Anna Nicole Smith controversy was that we needed to get this body into the ground.

The good news for Gary Coleman is that he wanted to be cremated. No one contests that, so he will be cremated as soon as maybe tomorrow. And after he is cremated his ashes will be kept away in a secure location until they can figure out who, in fact, is the executor of his will. Is it Anna Gray or is it Shannon Price?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right. Coming up next -- we`re going to talk to somebody who is going to give Shannon Price`s side of the story.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: A photo of Shannon posing next to Gary on his deathbed with tubes coming out of his mouth is so offensive we have really chosen not to show it tonight. The picture has been universally described as revolting and it popped up on the cover of the "Globe" tabloid.

Shielia Erickson, you have the tough assignment of being the spokesperson for Shannon Price, Gary`s ex, how do you explain her posing next to him on the deathbed and then the picture suddenly popping up in the "Globe".

SHIELIA ERICKSON, SPOKESPERSON FOR SHANNON PRICE: You know, Shannon takes picture of everything. She loves Gary. And you know, her number -- the only reason why she took the picture is it was just her last minutes with her husband. You know she didn`t expect it to be -- you know, she didn`t expect it to get out there.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: How did it end up on the cover of the "Globe"?

ERICKSON: You know what Shannon -- basically we did find out is a close family member. And Shannon says she wishes to deal with it privately.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right, what about her pulling the plug, or ordering pulling the plug on Gary when there were court documents that she herself was involved with filing that said, he did not want anybody to pull plug on him?

ERICKSON: You know she had a lot of pressure from the doctors. And basically the doctors were telling her, Shannon, Gary is a vegetable. You know? And so, you know, if Gary is a vegetable and he`s not there, then you know, she really felt like she was listening to the advice of the doctors.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, Judge Karen Mills-Francis, you have been listening to this, what do you make of it? Are these valid explanations?

MILLS-FRANCIS: You know, none of it makes any sense to me. And my understanding is that she actually sold picture to the "Globe". And I also read another report where the hospital confirmed that she had people there taking pictures. It sounded as though it was a production going on. And to say that --

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Shielia -- yes. I agree.

MILLS-FRANCIS: To say that she was pressured by the doctors. She could have made a call to his manager, she could have made a call to his lawyer, she could have made a call to members of his family. So she could have done a lot more.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I want to give Shielia a chance to answer those criticisms.

ERICKSON: There was no production company there taking pictures. The only ones that took pictures, was a few of her family members. And you know, in asking Shannon, why did you take that picture, you know with Gary? That was just, she`s remembering her last moments with her husband.

MILLS-FRANCIS: Why did she sell the picture? Why did she sell the picture?

ERICKSON: Shannon did not sell the picture.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Ok, Carlos, what would you like to ask Shielia as spokesperson for Gary`s ex?

DIAZ: The only thing I have to ask you -- is you had this happen on a Friday. Didn`t she think maybe she could wait the weekend and think about it? Why in the world would doctors pressure anyone to pull the plug and to end someone`s life? I don`t understand what you mean by doctors pressured her? What do you mean by that?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: All right, quick answer, Shielia?

ERICKSON: Basically the doctors just told her that Gary is gone. He is a vegetable. There is -- there is nothing left. And they pressured her.

DIAZ: But why not wait the weekend why. Why not wait the weekend?

ERICKSON: Because the doctor said that his heart was going to give out at any time.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Guess what? We are going to extend this into tomorrow. We would look to have all three of you back. We are going to discuss it again because breaking news didn`t give us enough time.

But I do admire you Shielia for taking on the tough assignment of being Shannon Price`s spokesperson.

ERICKSON: Absolutely.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`ll see you again tomorrow night with more tough questions.
