JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, GUEST HOST: It`s the explosive audiotapes heard around the world, Hollywood megastar Mel Gibson`s alleged profanity-laced, sexist, racist meltdown, threatening his Russian singer girlfriend, the mother of their 8-month-old baby girl.
As Radaronline continues to reveal more shocking tapes and explosive photos allegedly showing injuries to the girlfriend and the baby surface, now come the stunning text messages. That`s right, as a bitter custody battle rages on, just moments ago, both sides meeting behind closed doors with a family court judge. And in another stunning twist, new reports of a violent outburst by Mel Gibson inside his Malibu mansion while his baby girl is just a month old. Just arriving in town, visiting from North Carolina, the victim found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, unresponsive, covered in blood, signs of forced entry into the apartment.
Tonight, investigators reveal significant sightings on surveillance video could be the key to cracking this murder case. Who gunned down this beautiful 33-year-old mother of two? Tonight, we have the shocking 911 call.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Good evening. I`m Jane Velez-Mitchell, in for Nancy Grace tonight. First there were the explosive audiotapes. Now come the stunning text messages. Hollywood megastar Mel Gibson`s vicious meltdown.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Sheriff`s department has confirmed that they have opened an investigation.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Mel, you`re imbalanced. There`s something wrong with you. You need medication.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Oh, you shut up! You (EXPLETIVE DELETED) robbed me!
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You cannot raise this child with this symptoms.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: What?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We know there`s an investigation under way and we know those audiotapes are part of it. The sheriff`s spokesman has told us that.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: You`re acting as a crazy man right now, and you have been for many, many months. And you hit me and you hit her whilst she was in my hands.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: For the very latest, let`s go straight out to Alexis Tereszcuk, reporter with Radaronline. Alexis, what is the very latest?
ALEXIS TERESZCUK, RADARONLINE.COM: Hey, Jane. The latest is that we have released some text messages that Mel Gibson sent to Oksana the day after the alleged incident where he hit her and hit the baby. It was a series of messages over about 30 minutes where he wrote to her, I was not safe for you last night. I spent two hours with my therapist today, and I`ve gotten my perspective in order. I was not safe for you last night," begging her, Please let me come over and apologize to you, to the baby and to her older son, Sascha, who`s about 12 years old.
He sent a repeated text message over and over, Are you there? Let me talk to you. Are they fixed, meaning her teeth. She responded just one time, I don`t want to see you. I`m hurting. I`m in pain. You can apologize another time. Again, he continued to beg her to see her, admitting that what he had done the day before was harmful to her.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: And you know what struck me? The word "amends." Bethany Marshall, psychoanalyst, as a recovering addict, alcoholic myself, I know that that is part of the 12-step. We know he has an alcohol problem. The incomprehensible remorse that an addict feels the next day after a binge. He may very well be, along with being an alcoholic, a rage- a-holic.
BETHANY MARSHALL, PSYCHOANALYST: Jane, this is an egregious misuse of the phrase "make amends." What this is, is the cycle of abuse. This is what abusers do. They`re pathologically jealous. They want to have control over the woman. When the control slips, they go out of control. They denigrate. They go on a rant. And when they know they`ve gone too far, then they feel remorse. Then they try to get back into the woman`s good graces.
And what I see this as being is a big manipulation. Why didn`t he go to his therapist before? Why didn`t he get on medication before? Why didn`t he go to 12-step before so he would not abuse her to begin with? This is after the fact. This is the honeymoon cycle of the stages of abuse.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, let`s bring in the lawyers on this one. This is a text message, or a series of text messages purportedly, according to Radaronline, from Mel to Oksana the day after this monumental fight, where she claims she was hit and her baby was hit. And it seems as if, if these are authentic, it`s just more evidence piling up. Eleanor Odom, sex crimes prosecutor?
ELEANOR ODOM, PROSECUTOR: You`re exactly right, Jane. And it is just one good piece of evidence after another. And it`s an escalating pattern of behavior. That`s what`s so interesting to me. And he so falls into that cycle of violence, that cycle of abuse, where there`s the violent incident, and then, of course, there`s the, I`m sorries, the making up and the honeymoon phase and building back up to another incident of violence.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Nalley, Texas, your question or thought, ma`am?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: My question is, how old are these photos showing her teeth? And also, wouldn`t Mel`s kids be able to testify on his behalf that he isn`t a bad parent?
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well...

VELEZ-MITCHELL: You bring up a very interesting point. Ellie Jostad, NANCY GRACE producer, there is another new report of a chair-throwing incident that purportedly involves one of Mel Gibson`s children. Tell us about that.
ELLIE JOSTAD, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Right. Right. Right. That`s right. Well, there`s a report out there that Mel Gibson allegedly threw a chair. Now, this is also from Radar. This happened back in December of `09. He apparently got mad, threw a chair through a glass window. Apparently, Oksana`s mother was there. She ran into the room, went back, got one of Mel`s sons. He came in, and apparently, they both saw the aftermath of this incident.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: But it goes to the whole point of who is going to stand up for him? So if Mel Gibson`s son saw this incident, he might actually be called to be a witness against his own father, Renee Rockwell.
RENEE ROCKWELL, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Absolutely. But why do we have to blame everything on Mel? Because if she`s standing there putting up with it, she`s feeding the fire. Jane, obviously, she knows how to push his buttons. So I can`t rule him totally...
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Oh! Whoa, whoa, whoa! Honey...
ROCKWELL: ... responsible...
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Don`t you stick up for the women? I mean...
ROCKWELL: No. Not necessarily.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Come on!
ROCKWELL: I don`t think we just have one bad guy in this deal. He is trying to get a handle on his problems. Yes, he`s probably got a drinking problem. You should be one to know that it`s always a good time to grab ahold to yourself and maybe try to make some changes, try to go and get some help...
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, you know what?
ROCKWELL: ... some rehab.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: I don`t know if he`s a drunk or if he`s a dry drunk. He`s admitted to having a problem. But if you just get dry, you stop drinking without working on your spiritual program, it`s not going to get you anywhere. It`s going to turn you into a Mel Gibson, if this, in fact, is Mel Gibson. So I think this is more about...
ROCKWELL: So that`s what`s happened?
VELEZ-MITCHELL: ... his attitude about women. And we`re going to play a tape that reveals the conflict between these two over what her role and her freedoms should be. And she says she was being stuck in a hole. So we`re going to play that in a little bit because I think this is really all about male chauvinism and male entitlement and a man saying that, You are supposed to be subservient, and you`re supposed to be at home, you`re supposed to be waiting for me, you`re supposed to give me oral sex whenever I want it, which is basically what he says on the tape. And she`s standing up for herself.
And somebody, give me a break here! Help me out with this. How about C.W. Jensen, retired Portland police captain.
C.W. JENSEN, RETIRED PORTLAND POLICE CAPTAIN: Yes, ma`am. You know, this, unfortunately, is something that we see in law enforcement every single day around the country. And this woman and this man are obviously not right for each other, but when he was doing that, if he allegedly did that, is very, very scary. I think it would scare any woman to be in that kind of a position. And he has a lot of money, but there`s women trapped in relationships like this all over the country that are afraid to step forward because that`s who supports them.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I`m Jane Velez-Mitchell, in for Nancy Grace. A slew of stunning new developments in the Mel Gibson audiotape scandal, text messages Radaronline says are from Mel to Oksana the day after their confrontation in January, where he apologizes and says he wants to make amends. And she says, I`ve got two broken front teeth and a concussion. I cannot see you today. I`m hurting.
And now we`re trying to figure out why, if it is Mel, he`s behaving in this vile fashion. Now, somebody in our panel just said, Well, she might be pushing his buttons. To that I say bunk! Bunk! This is a chauvinist who is very threatened by a woman standing up for herself!

You control me like marionette. I don`t belong to myself, only to you. I can`t do anything, and I walk on the eggshells always with you!

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Bethany Marshall, I see this as a man wanting to control this woman, and she`s standing up for herself and he`s enraged by that!
MARSHALL: Jane, you`re absolutely right. And not only that, but the cycle of abuse starts at the very beginning of this relationship. I can hear it in these messages. At the very beginning, he asked her to leave her job, stripped her of her autonomy, her independence, her independent means and financial resources, took control of her life, and then used her financial dependence on him as a weapon against her.
This is so typical in the cycle of abuse. And let`s not forget he has prolonged alcohol abuse, according to some reports.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Right. But I want to -- Renee Rockwell -- I just want to jump in. Renee, how can you say that she`s pressing his buttons? He`s stomping all over her!
ROCKWELL: I know. And you know what? He`s obviously mad. He`s enraged right here. And do you hear her voice? She sounds so calm, almost like she`s got him on tape. And I bet you that tape was produced a long time, together with some potential money to make the tape disappear. All I`m saying, Jane, is he misbehaved badly. A lot of this goes on in homes all over America. He just got caught, but he`s not beyond repair.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: That doesn`t make it right!
ROCKWELL: It`s not right!
VELEZ-MITCHELL: And I don`t think the fact that she`s calm means that she knows that there`s a tape -- well, she knows that there`s a tape rolling, probably. But I don`t...
ROCKWELL: Because she`s got it rolling.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: But you know what? When you`re dealing with people - - and I`ve talked to people who have dealt with husbands who, let`s say, have a mental disorder. When you`re dealing with people who are out of control, you sometimes become very calm because that`s the only defense you have. If you engage with them, you will drive yourself crazy because you cannot win with a crazy person.
Averil, Canada, your question or thought, ma`am?
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi. Yes. I was just wondering if there were any pictures anywhere of the incidents of the hitting -- hitting her. And my other comment is about her holding her baby while they`re arguing. I think the baby should have been put in the bedroom, not in the middle of a fight. And I feel very strongly because I`ve been abused. But I cannot understand this whole thing. I think it`s all drama.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, Peter Odom, you`ve been listening to all of this. And some people are taking swipes at Oksana. At this point, she says she has to give herself extra security because she`s getting threats, as a matter of fact. Is that fair?
PETER ODOM, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: To Oksana? No. What is clear to me, though, is that Mel Gibson -- if half of this evidence ends up being admissible and they bring charges, he`s going to get convicted of something. He needs to face himself, face these demons. He`s obviously got psychological problems that have never been addressed.

We`re talking about stunning new developments in the Mel Gibson saga, text messages Radaronline says were sent from Mel to Oksana the day after their big fight, in which Oksana says, I have two broken front teeth and a concussion. I cannot see you today. I`m hurting. And Mel Gibson purportedly responds, Did you get them fixed yet?
Dr. Panchali Dhar, you are the author of "Before the Scalpel." She says she went to the doctor that day, on, actually, January 8th. And there were X-rays taken and she was complaining of headaches. and her eyes weren`t working right. What does that say?
DR. PANCHALI DHAR, INTERNAL MEDICINE: Well, that`s pretty dangerous. I mean, that means that he inflicted significant injury to her. And if she had a concussion, she would need have to have a CAT scan or an MRI of her head to see if there`s a bleed. This could be serious and fatal. And then she would need to get medical help for that. Luckily, she didn`t. And if she broke her teeth, that also is evidence that it was serious damage and harm.
but what I want to point out is, this is really a case of domestic violence, the horrors of domestic violence. And we shouldn`t forget that because there are celebrities involved.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Exactly.
DHAR: There`s 30 million Americans that are victims of domestic violence, and most of them are women. But Oksana is unique. She`s empowered. She knows how to take control of the situation. She took the bull by the horns. She made these tapes, and now she`s going to the authorities with this.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes, and remember, she`s dealing with a very, very, very powerful guy.
DHAR: Right.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Jane, California, your question or thought, ma`am?

JOSTAD: Right. Well, TMZ is reporting that Oksana has been doctor -- or rather, I`m sorry, attorney shopping and that she met with a firm that handles civil litigation. So there`s speculation, is she going to file another lawsuit against Mel Gibson?

Eric, what is the very latest?
ERIC JENS, REPORTER, WRGA RADIO: Reporter: Well, thank you, Jane. What we know is that 33-year-old Zaquavia Kingsberry came to Atlanta to visit her boyfriend in the early part of last week. By Wednesday of last week, she was found dead in that apartment building by this alleged boyfriend.
He apparently came home, found the door open. By the time he found her she was lying on the floor with a pool of blood around her head. Later learned that she`d been shot two to three times.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, what`s really shocking here is that this beautiful young woman had turned her life around. She had a troubled past but she had overcome adversity and had really excelled in numerous programs and was holding down two jobs.
But we also have to say, because it`s what police are telling us, that she had apparently two boyfriends at the same time.
Natisha Lance, I understand there`s breaking news on that front. Tell us all about it.
NATISHA LANCE, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: What we are learning now, Jane, is that she was driven to the Atlanta area with two friends. One of those friends now we know was a boyfriend that came with her from North Carolina.
We don`t know and police are still trying to determine where that boyfriend was staying during his time in Atlanta.
We also now know, Jane, that that door that was kicked in on that 911 call where you hear the boyfriend talking about it, police are trying to determine if the door was kicked in prior to the death or after the death.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: We have to say there are no suspects. There are no persons of interest. Nobody knows why this happened although police tonight are saying they believe no one they have questioned is being completely honest with them.
Bethany Marshall, speaking hypothetically, is it possible if a woman gets a boyfriend to drive her to Atlanta and then she sees another boyfriend, and that first boyfriend doesn`t know about it but figures it out, that that could spark rage?
BETHANY MARSHALL, PSYCHOANALYST, AUTHOR OF "DEALBREAKERS": Well, yes, I would say. But I would say the profile of the boyfriend who drove her would be someone who is angry, resentful, yet extremely passive. And she did not -- she failed to assess the severity of the passivity that would then lead and erupt into homicidal rage.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: I mean, I guess what I`m saying is, if you go from one place to another to see another person, and you ask the person number one that you`re having a relationship with to drive you -- possibly under the pretext you`re seeing a girlfriend or a friend that`s not a lover -- and then that person finds out that, hey, she`s been two-timing me, that is a potential motive.
And I`m not saying that person is a suspect. But gosh, hypothetically speaking, Renee Rockwell, that`s a classic motive.
RENEE ROCKWELL, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Absolutely. But everybody wants to jump to the conclusion that it`s going to be this boyfriend. And you know what? I know there`s no suspect or person of interest, but he is absolutely going to be the first person that the police are going to want to exclude before they move on to anybody else.
I can assure you they`ve taken his clothes into evidence. They`ve taken his -- things under his fingernails if he is cooperating. They`re taking a statement. They are getting his cell phone and they`re triangulating where his cell phone was at every moment trying to figure out if his story -- if he`s talking, which I would advise him not to do -- if he`s going to tell a story. If his story is being jotted down, they`re backtracking on every piece of information that he`s giving them.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, on the phone from Atlanta, Major Keith Meadows, Major Crimes Section, Atlanta Police Department.
I understand, sir -- thank you for joining us -- that you were saying it is not a random act. What can you tell us about the fact that the door appeared to be kicked in?
MAJ. KEITH MEADOWS, MAJOR CRIMES SECTION, ATLANTA POLICE DEPARTMENT: Well, at this point in the investigation it is kind of early to tell. We are -- we have questioned a number of the witnesses inside of the apartment complex. And we`ve been able to develop some information from that.
We can`t say right now that the door was kicked in right at the time of her murder. But we haven`t ruled out the possibility that the break-in might have occurred at some point before or after that.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, I guess what you`re saying -- are you saying that maybe the door could have been kicked in to stage it, to make it look like it was some kind of a break-in when the person may have had access?
MEADOWS: Well, we haven`t ruled out any possibility at this point. Like I said, we were questioning witnesses in the apartment complex and we`re trying to narrow down a really fine timeline.
(CROSSTALK)
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, let me ask you this, Major. I understand that you heard neighbors arguing but nobody heard gunshots. Can you confirm that?
MEADOWS: That is correct. Some of the neighbors did hear some loud voices in the hallway but no one reports having heard gunshots.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: CW Jensen, retired Portland police captain. Does this sound personal? She was shot two or three times. There was lots of blood. The door was kicked in.
CW JENSEN, RETIRED PORTLAND POLICE CAPTAIN: Yes, ma`am. What do we know these types of things? We know if someone murders you, you probably knew who they were. And many times women are murdered by an intimate partner, their husband, boyfriend, things like this.
So while they don`t have a suspect or person of interest that they`re telling us, certainly they`re looking at the boyfriends. They`re looking at the people that drove her from North Carolina and they`re looking at what everybody was doing on that day.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Marion in Pennsylvania, your question or thought, ma`am.
MARION, CALLER FROM PENNSYLVANIA Yes. I was going to say, with the 911 call, and they said that there were people around that heard the noise, the shouting and stuff. Do they know how close that 911 call was to that fighting?
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Oh, that is a great question. Major Keith Meadows?
MEADOWS: It`s my understanding it was approximately 15 minutes before.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Oh, so could be obviously whoever she was fighting with is the person responsible. Now you do have surveillance video in that apartment complex so presumably the suspect would appear somewhere in that surveillance video, sir?
MEADOWS: We`ve looked at that and what we`re doing right now is we`ve actually taken a trip up to Raleigh and we`ve questioned a number of the individuals that we believe had some information with regards to the case itself.
And we`ve been able to identify some of the individuals in that video. And we have been able to question them.
At this point we haven`t developed or eliminated any one of those individuals as a potential suspect in this case.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Yes, let me see if I can -- just so the viewers can understand what`s going on here. She lived in Raleigh, North Carolina. She drove to Atlanta. Two individuals gave her the ride up there.
And I understand that one of them has now been identified as her North Carolina boyfriend. But she was going to visit her Atlanta boyfriend. Now, on the surveillance tape there were supposedly two men at the apartment complex that were seen. One of them was one of the people who drove her up.
Is that person on the surveillance tape at the apartment complex her North Carolina boyfriend?
MEADOWS: Well, right now we can`t go into the evidence that we`ve been able to collect at the scene, but I will say that we have been able to identify all of the individuals from the video footage that we had questions about and we have been able to question those individuals at this time.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, I`ve got to tell you. There -- this is a mystery. And you are just starting to hear the first part of it because we can tell you a little bit about this woman`s background that is pretty shocking. So we`re just getting started here.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Atlanta police released a disturbing frantic 911 call from a deadly shooting which took the life of 33-year-old, mother of two, Zaquavia Kingsberry.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Ma, I just see a bunch of blood. She`s on her side. She`s on her side and there`s bunch of blood.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: The victim`s boyfriend discovered her body.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I come to my house, there`s this - I put the key in, and my door`s open.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Kingsberry had been shot on the head at least twice.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I come in and my friend is on the floor with her head and she`s bleeding. She`s bleeding out of her head.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: The mom brutally gunned down.
UNIDENTIFIED 911 DISPATCHER: Is she conscious?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No, she`s unconscious.
UNIDENTIFIED 911 DISPATCHER: Is she breathing?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No!
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Cops now say there was forced entry into the apartment.
UNIDENTIFIED 911 DISPATCHER: What`s the address?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: My door is kicked in. And she`s sitting here bleeding in my house.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: The last known person to see Zaquavia alive, her boyfriend.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Kingsberry`s brother said he didn`t know his sister had a boyfriend.
UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: After the two had breakfast, he left.
UNIDENTIFIED 911 DISPATCHER: She`s bleeding? OK. Tell me --
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She`s not moving. There`s no nothing.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I`m Jane Velez-Mitchell in for Nancy Grace.
A beautiful mother of two from North Carolina travels with boyfriend number one up to Atlanta where she meets up with boyfriend number two. We don`t know if boyfriend number one knew about boyfriend number two. Unlikely, I would say.
And then after boyfriend number two goes to work he returns for lunch and finds her -- he says -- dead, shot several times, blood all over the apartment and the door kicked in.
Bethany Marshall, psychoanalyst, I`ve got to go to you about this dynamic between this woman with the two boyfriends.
MARSHALL: Well, something about this story doesn`t make sense. Just because he identified as the boyfriend -- the one that drove her there -- doesn`t necessarily mean he was the boyfriend.
This is such a huge act of deception for her to have pulled off. The likelihood is he was once her boyfriend and was now stalking her.
Seventy-six percent of women who are killed by an intimate have been stalked by that intimate in the year preceding the homicide. And we know that the two biggest factors in homicides are envy -- you have something I want, I`m going to take it from you -- and jealousy.
You have turned toward another person. You no longer love me. And I simply cannot take it anymore. And I`m going to kill you so that I had no longer have a reminder of the object of jealousy.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Once again we have to remind our viewers, the police say there were no suspects, no person of interest. They do not know who did this horrific deed. But they do say they don`t think anybody they`ve talked to is being 100 percent honest with him.
Dr. Panchali Dhar, I want to ask you about what Bethany Marshall just said. We don`t know for sure if the person who drove her up is the boyfriend. She can`t talk for herself. It is possible that she may have broken up with him and tried to established a friendship, as women sometimes do with their ex`s and may have been under the impression that he was a friend, and he may have had a different impression.
DR. PANCHALI DHAR, INTERNAL MEDICINE: Absolutely. I mean relationships can be misleading. And there may have been some confusion and it turns into some kind of love triangle, with one person not knowing about the other.
This -- I also want to point out that she suffered a fatal injury. Just because she wasn`t breathing and she wasn`t conscious doesn`t mean she didn`t have a pulse. He was panicking on the phone, trying to call 911. But the main mode of action is to start doing CPR on someone laying there unconscious. Even if it`s a gunshot wound to the head with has over a 90 percent mortality rate.
That being said, some people do make it to the operating table with a gunshot wound to the head. Of course, one bullet is better than having three bullets in your head. And your survival depends on how conscious you are when you reach the hospital, if your pupils are fixed and dilated, that`s a bad sign. And the -- the trajectory of the bullet.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: And what I don`t understand -- speaking of bullets -- is why the neighbors heard an argument but they didn`t hear the gunshots. It`s possible a silencer was used. We don`t know.
DHAR: Absolutely.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Deanna, Texas, your question or thought, ma`am?
DEANNA, CALLER FROM TEXAS: Yes. I was wondering to find out if there`s been a reward posted for -- to help find the killer?
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Eric Jens, reporter, WRGA Radio, what do you know?
JENS: We`ve not heard any specific (INAUDIBLE) on reward money. Police are looking for whatever information they can as they continue investigating this case. We get the impression that they may be close to making a major break. But they may be missing just a few key elements and they`re hoping people will come forward with that.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, Natisha Lance, NANCY GRACE producer, there is an interesting backstory to the victim here, and we never blame the victim. But she did have a checkered past that she overcame. Tell us about it.
LANCE: Well, back in 2000, Jane, she was convicted of marijuana trafficking. She served about two years. She was released in 2002 -- February of 2002. And since that time she has overcome that adversity. She`s been turning her life around.
One of the things she was doping she working as a nurse`s assistant. She was also working weekends at a women`s homeless shelter. And she was also -- just been graduated nine months from a life skills program where and in which she was able to save up enough money to buy her dream house with her two children.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: And these two boys, 4 and 15, now left motherless. How terrible is that? They are apparently living with a grandparent at this point.
Eleanor Odom, that sounds like a woman who really has turned her life around. Why would she throw it all away to sort of double time? And is it possible this is being misinterpreted or somebody thought they were a boyfriend and they had ceased to be?
ELEANOR ODOM, SEX CRIME PROSECUTOR: You`re completely right, Jane. I think that`s the more likely scenario because it`d be pretty brave and brazen to come down with boyfriend number one to see boyfriend number two in Atlanta.
But let`s also talk about some evidence the police aren`t mentioning. The gunshot wounds to the head. We don`t know if that`s close contact and, as you said, a silencer may have been used, or if it`s a long range from the -- you know, the gunshot to the wound.
So that`s going to be a big clue that the police aren`t talking about. They`re playing that very close to the vest right now.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, they`re playing everything close to the vest and we`re delighted to have Major Keith Meadows from the Atlanta Police Department on the phone.
You just heard the reporter say that you may be close to a major break in the case. What can you tell us, sir?
MEADOWS: Well, what I will say is that we`re comfortable with the direction of the investigation. We`ve gotten some significant leads over the past couple of days and I`m very hopeful that we will be able to bring this case to some closure, hopefully in the near future.
But as far as the actual leads themselves, I wouldn`t feel comfortable going into that at this point in the investigation.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Patti, Texas, your question or thought, ma`am?
PATTI, CALLER FROM TEXAS: Hey, Jane, how are you doing?
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Good.
PATTI: Good. You know this thing just sounds so fishy to me because this woman, like you said, drove up to Atlanta from North Carolina with one man. And I have a feeling that the man that she went to see in Atlanta is an older gentleman.
And I think that maybe there was some preying going on.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: What -- what`s going on?
PATTI: And that`s -- preying? P-R-E-Y-I-N-G. And that, you know, maybe she was there -- maybe she just met this man and maybe he wasn`t really a boyfriend, but somebody that they were going to use or rob, you know?
I mean this man has to have money. He`s living in this beautiful penthouse apartment it looks like.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Right. Well, I think you should be a detective. You raised some excellent points. We just hope that justice is served here.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Is that man the boyfriend who discovered his girlfriend dead on the floor of his apartment with two to three bullet wounds, head injuries. He calls 911 frantically. And this is happening in a very exclusive area of Atlanta, Buckhead.
Eric Jens, you`ve been listening to all this. You`re a reporter on the ground. Tell us about Buckhead, what kind of area it is. And can we really say this man is the boyfriend? Because, as our guest said, maybe she went there thinking she was his friend and he decided she was more than that.
JENS: He is definitely the alleged boyfriend in every sense of the word at this point. And as we heard police earlier, there are no specific suspects. They`re not labeling anybody with just about anything at this point.
But, you know, we can only hope that they`re getting closer to that point with a little more information. Some of these things will start to make a little more sense.
VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, I got to say that this is a tragedy. And the biggest part of this tragedy, this young woman is dead and she leaves behind two young sons, 4 and 15, motherless. That is a real tragedy.
