Slasher Video of Mom`s Boyfriend Horrifies in Hailey Dunn Case

Aired January 17, 2011 - 20:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

NANCY GRACE, HOST: Breaking news tonight, live, Texas. A 13-year-old cheerleader, broad daylight, leaves home to head by foot down the street to a little friend`s house for a sleepover. She`s never seen again. Bloodhounds scan the neighborhood and a local motel. Police comb that motel surveillance video, no sign of Hailey.

Police seize cell phones belonging to Mommy and the live-in boyfriend, polygraph friends and neighbors. Just hours after we go live with the story, Colorado police, who dismiss Hailey as a runaway, upgrade her case to missing person. Cops searching an abandoned cotton gin, creek bottoms, Colorado River.

Did Mommy and the boyfriend actually throw a New Year`s Eve party 72 hours after Hailey goes missing? Mommy says no. Oddly, in police interviews, the boyfriend starts out saying, quote, what a "good girl" Hailey is, but then does a 180, claiming the 13-year-old girl is promiscuous. And did he lie about his job and whereabouts that day? A horrific scenario emerges, Hailey`s grandmother revealing her fear Mommy`s live-in molested 13-year-old Hailey, then murders when she threatens to tell. As Hailey`s dad goes out to physically search for his girl, the boyfriend cuts contact with Hailey`s mom.

Bombshell tonight. In the last hours, eerie and threatening slasher videos emerge. Who? It`s Mommy`s live-in boyfriend, like out of a horror movie, wearing a black hood, a black S&M type mask topping off a black Ninja outfit, Adkins acting out slice-and-dice scenarios on camera, chainsaws, machetes, knives, aprons for catching blood spatter, straight out of Freddy Krueger or Jason in "Friday the 13th." Oh, and apparently smoking pot, too, on video. We have the video. And he wonders why cops just made him a suspect in Hailey`s disappearance?

Police converge at a local dump, combing through tons of debris, bringing in cadaver dogs, who make a hit. And is there a sighting of Hailey, including a young girl, getting into a red car? The live-in speaks out, declaring he`s innocent, lamenting the huge toll it`s all taking on him, and says he prays for Hailey`s return. But at this hour, no one can confirm he`s at church on his knees on Sunday. Tonight, where is 13-year- old cheerleader Hailey Dunn?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The search continues for missing Hailey Dunn.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I just hope she makes it home safe and sound soon. (INAUDIBLE) ready for her to come home.

BILLIE DUNN, HAILEY`S MOTHER: Shawn, if you have nothing to hide, I really wish you would talk to the investigators.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m clueless.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Clueless?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hailey`s mom live-in boyfriend.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shawn Adkins is a suspect in this case.

BILLIE DUNN: If investigators don`t rule him out, I don`t, either.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The criminal side in the investigation obviously does look like something`s gone wrong.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Disturbing video and pictures from MySpace.com believed to be suspect Shawn Adkins with a chainsaw, holding a knife and wearing a mask.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I`m alive!

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shocking video believed to be suspect Shawn Adkins allegedly smoking marijuana from YouTube.com.

BILLIE DUNN: I worry, what if he did do something to Hailey?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Good evening, I`m Nancy Grace, I want to thank you for being with us. Bombshell tonight. In the last hours, eerie and threatening slasher video emerges. It`s Mommy`s live-in boyfriend, like out of a horror movie, and apparently smoking pot, too, on video. We have the video.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

BILLIE DUNN: First, of course, I never would have thought he could have anything to do with Hailey`s disappearance or could ever hurt her. But now he`s just not being cooperative and not talking to them.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Shawn Adkins, only main suspect in this case.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: New video from YouTube.com emerges of what appears to be Shawn Adkins allegedly smoking pot.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: To the people who are pointing fingers at you, what do you have to say to them?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Nothing. They`re entitled to their opinion.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Chilling slasher video and pictures emerge from MySpace.com believed to be of suspect Shawn Adkins.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I love her with all my heart and I believe she loves me with all her heart.

BILLIE DUNN: If he did hurt my daughter, I`ll -- I`m -- I would be disgusted by that.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: We are taking your calls. Straight out to Priscilla Luong of CNN affiliate KTAB, standing by there at Hailey`s home. What can you tell us, Priscilla?

PRISCILLA LUONG, KTAB CORRESPONDENT: Well, Nancy, it`s day 21 and still no sight of Hailey Dunn. Right now, the talk of the town is that slasher video you just talked about of Shawn Adkins. It has -- many searchers have a renewed enthusiasm and a renewed purpose in their search for Hailey.

GRACE: To Jean Casarez, legal correspondent, "In Session." So much has happened in the last 72 hours. Bring me up to date, Jean.

JEAN CASAREZ, "IN SESSION": Oh, Nancy, let`s talk about...

GRACE: Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait! Jean, can you see the monitor?

CASAREZ: Oh, I see it.

GRACE: OK, take me down, please, Brett (ph), pronto. This is what has just emerged in the last hours. There you see the live-in boyfriend. Yes, that`s him under the apparently rubber S&M horror mask. I want to go back to the mask, please. How`d you like to have that in the home with your 13-year-old cheerleader daughter? OK, Jean, go ahead.

CASAREZ: Well, Nancy, let`s look at the facts for a minute. While Shawn Adkins has been named a suspect in Hailey Dunn`s disappearance, at the same moment, this slasher video is being released, while a landfill is being searched in Abilene, Texas.

GRACE: Repeat. I`m sorry. I could not hear you. Repeat, Jean?

CASAREZ: At the moment of time when this slasher video is being released -- and this is allegedly Shawn Adkins -- it was discovered by people on FaceBook that are trying to find Hailey Dunn -- he is named a suspect in the disappearance of this little girl, and at the same time, Nancy, a landfill in Abilene, Texas, is being searched to try to find her.

GRACE: Everyone, more photos from MySpace page of Shawn Adkins`s cousin, apparently, live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins wearing the slasher mask. It looks like it`s straight out of Freddy Krueger or the Jason horror flicks. Liz, do we have the video where he actually re-enacts a slice-and-dice scenario, where he`s sitting there reading, on a sofa and then somebody sneaks up behind him with a machete? Also, Liz, please, I want to see the rest of the photos of Shawn Adkins, the live-in boyfriend, standing there with the big machete, dressed in solid black, in a Ninja outfit. Oh, yes, there you go. How`d you like to your little girl to get off a school bus and have that waiting at the front door?

Back to Jean Casarez. Jean, I want to hear more about the landfill search. Go ahead.

CASAREZ: Well, the landfill search was in Abilene...

GRACE: Oh, wait. Hold on.

CASAREZ: OK.

GRACE: You are seeing Shawn Adkins re-enacting a slice-and-dice. We`re showing you what we`ve got of it. This video from MySpace of Shawn Adkins in a so-called skit. Somebody`s skit pretending to scare him. Calls to Adkins and his attorney have not been returned. Now, this is what we get ahold of, at the same time Adkins named a suspect in the disappearance of 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

Go ahead, Jean.

CASAREZ: Nancy, do you realize the weapons that are in that video -- not only do you have knives, but you have guns. I`ve studied this video. I saw, like, a machine gun. I saw a small gun. I mean, it really promotes violence in this slasher video that was found recently.

GRACE: We are taking your calls live, but first, out to Rupa Mikkilineni, joining us from Hailey`s home. Rupa, Jean is just telling us about a search of a landfill. What more can you tell me? I understand that cops dug under Hailey`s house, as well?

RUPA MIKKILINENI, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: That`s right, Nancy. We know that all weekend long, starting last week, Thursday or Friday and all through the weekend, there were search parties and searchers and investigators searching this landfill in Abilene. Now, let`s not forget that they started their search in landfills in this area initially, in Colorado City. And then because the garbage dumped in this landfill tends to be transferred to Abilene, then they moved their search over to Abilene. And so there were men in hazmat suits with cadaver dogs.

And apparently, two of these cadaver dogs made two hits, Nancy -- two hits. Now, police are not confirming tonight whether those hits are related to the Hailey Dunn case or not.

GRACE: We are taking your calls live. And also with us, taking your calls, Hailey`s mother and father, Billie and Clint Dunn. They are joining us from Hailey`s home. First to you, Billie Dunn. Did you have any idea that your live-in was into slasher videos, making them, dressing up in these crazy horror masks and Ninja outfits and machetes and chainsaws?

BILLIE DUNN: No. I knew that he had the mask, that he bought and traded masks. I didn`t watch the videos. I think that`s before we got together. I don`t know. And I did see some on line, and it`s not good.

GRACE: Joining us also, Hailey`s father, Clint Dunn. A lot of you -- you know, so often we see people sitting back, doing nothing, a lot of men involved in the lives of missing girls and women. Not so for Clint Dunn. He`s out been -- he`s been out physically looking for his girl.

I got to tell you, Mr. Dunn, I don`t know what I would do. I admire what you`re doing so much. I think I would just run out in the street and start yelling for the children. I don`t know what I would do. Tell us what you have been doing to find Hailey.

CLINT DUNN, HAILEY`S FATHER: It`s just an uphill battle. I`m a rookie at all this, so I`m just doing what I can, passing out flyers. Every idea I can think of, I`m doing.

GRACE: I understand you physically went out looking, following up on a tip. Where did you go?

CLINT DUNN: I went to Odessa. I had tip, somebody may have seen Hailey, and I went to Odessa, on Midlin (ph) Street and Wall (ph) Street. And I interviewed a lot of people and walked up and down the streets, passing out flyers, talking to everybody. And it turned out to be a girl - - I never found her, but everybody said that she looked much older than 13.

GRACE: So bottom line, Clint Dunn, you`re out there talking to people, following leads, beating the street. You describe yourself as a rookie. Let me tell you something, Mr. Dunn. We`re all rookies when you hear this news. Nobody knows what to do.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Still no sign of Hailey.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I think it`s going to be a horrible outcome.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Have you guys reached the realization, the reality that something could have happened to Hailey?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, that`s obviously an aspect that we have to look at, yes.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shawn Adkins is a suspect in this case.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hailey`s mom`s live-in boyfriend is no longer just a person of interest.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, I guess right now, his name being out there, he would be at the top of the list.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Billie Dunn says she`s not ruling anything out.

BILLIE DUNN: At this point, I think anything is possible.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Dunn says with all signs pointing to Shawn, she doesn`t know what to think.

BILLIE DUNN: First, of course, I never would have thought he could have anything to do with Hailey`s disappearance or could ever hurt her.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I love her with all my heart, and I believe she loves me with all her heart.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Everybody`s going to continue to keep on doing until we get her back home.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shawn Adkins is a suspect in this case. I guess right now, his name being out there, he would be at the top of the list.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: We are taking your calls live. To Jean Casarez. Jean, what can you tell us about bone fragments?

CASAREZ: Well, a bone fragment has been found and it has been analyzed. It appears as though that it may be animal. But Nancy, it was in Scurry County, and that is where everything is taking place. And remember, Shawn Adkins said during his polygraph, when asked, Where could Hailey be found, and he said in Scurry County, which is Dunn (ph), Texas, which is directly, I believe, north a bit of Colorado City.

And also, I want to tell you one other thing. There was a reported sighting possibly of Hailey this morning, didn`t turn out to be anything. But Nancy, this investigation is going in all facets and all directions at all times.

GRACE: Now, is that the sighting where they saw a young girl getting into a red car?

CASAREZ: Yes.

GRACE: And what did that turn out to be, Jean, if anything?

CASAREZ: Turned out at this point to be unfounded. But Nancy, how many times was Elizabeth Smart spotted and nothing was done, and then finally, ultimately, as we know, she survived?

GRACE: And the reality is, Jean, that she was spotted by a man and his wife driving down the road. They only saw this much of her. She was wearing one of those burqas. And that one sighting saved her life.

Out to the lines, Benay in New York. Hi, dear.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hi, wonderful Nancy! I`d like to know if there`s any reason at all to believe that Hailey`s mother was so jealous of her boyfriend`s attention to Hailey that she (INAUDIBLE) behind Hailey`s disappearance?

GRACE: OK, hold on just one moment. Let me get this straight. Benay in New York, you`re asking is there a reason to believe that her mother, Billie Dunn, was so jealous over what?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Over -- over her boyfriend`s attention to Hailey.

GRACE: OK, I have nothing to suggest that. And also, I do know that the mom, Billie Dunn, was at work that day, that she got to work on time and stayed the whole day, her whole shift. I know that the little girl, Hailey, was observed by a third person -- that would be her brother, her 16-year-old brother -- the evening before around 9:00 PM playing a video game on TV, one of the box games. I also know the neighbor, apparently -- although we have not been able to confirm this and neither have the police, a neighbor says that they observed her around noon in the back yard talking on a cell phone. And that puts Billie Dunn out of the picture if that neighbor comes through.

You also have the boyfriend, Shawn Adkins, saying he gets home. He gets home around 3:00 o`clock. Hailey`s there, and she leaves to walk to a little friend`s house.

So let`s go to the mom, Billie Dunn. What`s your response to Benay in New York that you were so jealous of your boyfriend`s attention to Hailey that you murdered her?

BILLIE DUNN: Wow. I`m definitely not jealous of her. I`m so proud of her for how smart she is, how pretty she is, how funny she is. She didn`t get any special attention from Shawn.

GRACE: You know, another thing, Billie...

BILLIE DUNN: I`m not jealous at all.

GRACE: ... when I see my husband, my family, my parents give attention, lavish attention on my children, the twins, I`m so happy.

BILLIE DUNN: Yes.

GRACE: I`m so happy that someone wants to play with them, read to them, be with them. It makes you happy when you think someone`s showing interest...

BILLIE DUNN: Yes.

GRACE: ... and loving on them, and spending time with them. Doesn`t make me jealous. I`ve never picked up on that.

To Caryn Stark. Where would that theory even come from, Caryn Stark?

CARYN STARK, PSYCHOLOGIST: Because there definitely are, Nancy, women who are jealous of their teenage daughters. And I know that for you, it`s not the case. But it does sometimes happen that it makes them bemoan the fact that they`re getting older and that they`re not the same way. We`re not talking about a good mother or good parenting, but it does happen, particularly when they don`t have the right attention from a spouse.

GRACE: Let`s see those photos that have just emerged, everyone. As we go to air tonight, we uncover on line these photos. These are from MySpace, allegedly from Shawn Adkins`s cousin. Is that live-in boyfriend Shawn Adkins wearing the horror mask with the machete? And what grown man is out in the back yard, posing like this with a machete, with knives, with chainsaws?

This as we learn a local landfill has been searched for days by police, going through tons of debris, bringing out cadaver dogs. We also learn the cadaver dogs make a hit. Tonight, where is the 13-year-old cheerleader Hailey Dunn?

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Just like a -- every ordinary day, you know? Because she comes and goes like that quite a bit.

BILLIE DUNN: It makes me so mad. He could really help. He needs to cooperate. It frustrates me.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Kids, don`t try this at home! (INAUDIBLE) It`s very dangerous. (INAUDIBLE)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: That is video of whom we believe to be Shawn Adkins, the live- in boyfriend, allegedly smoking pot, obtained from the FindHaileyDunn channel on YouTube. Calls to Shawn Adkins and his lawyer have not been returned.

Back to Jean Casarez. Now, he has spoken out, the boyfriend, saying what a huge toll this has taken on him, how he`s devastated, how he misses Hailey, how he`s been praying night and day for her safe return. But guess what? Turned up missing this Sunday. He wasn`t in church, down on his knees praying. We`ve even called around to find out. When I heard he said he`s praying night and day, I didn`t hear about him being at the foot of the cross!

CASAREZ: No, no. And he said that he was innocent. And remember, he has now been named a suspect in the disappearance of Hailey Dunn. This doesn`t happen every day, Nancy, as you well know.

GRACE: You know what, Jean Casarez? You`re right. Unleash the lawyers. Joining us out of Seattle, high-profile lawyer Anne Bremner, out of Atlanta, defense attorney Randy Kessler. Anne, the difference between person of interest and suspect and defendant, explain, in a nutshell, Anne.

ANNE BREMNER, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: In a nutshell? It`s a little hard for me, as you know, but person of interest is just short of a suspect, which requires probable cause. And then a defendant usually is somebody who`s charged, always is someone charged. And it`s got a higher quantum (ph), which is probable cause, plus enough proof where the prosecutor thinks they can make a case or they`re indicted.

GRACE: What about it, Kessler?

RANDY KESSLER, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: I think they have to call him a suspect. They`re going after search warrants. They`re trying to find evidence. You can`t get evidence about someone who`s just maybe a possible person of interest. You know, if he`s somebody they`re looking at, they`ve got to tell the judge he is a person of interest. He`s more than that. He`s a suspect. We want to arrest him. We need evidence. Give us what we want. Look at these search warrants that we`re asking for. Grant us the right to go get this evidence. Easy to do it...

GRACE: So Anne Bremner, how would you like for video like that to turn up on your client? Take a look at this.

BREMNER: Oh!

GRACE: There is Shawn Adkins reportedly wearing a horror slice and dice mask, actually reenacting slice and dice scenes on video!

BREMNER: Well, you know, but this is like deja vu all over again. Amanda Knox had video like that. You know, you`ve seen it with Casey Anthony. But it`s not always admissible, Nancy.

GRACE: Hey, put Bremner`s face up!

BREMNER: Not always admissible.

GRACE: Put her up! Put her up! Put her up! Bremner...

(CROSSTALK)

GRACE: ... have you made videos like that? Have you made home videos...

BREMNER: Nancy...

GRACE: ... of you dressed up...

BREMNER: You know...

GRACE: ... in an outfit with a machete?

BREMNER: I have pictures of my cats synchronized swimming, you know, on my FaceBook page.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The search for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn.

B. DUNN: People are going to throw me under the bus and run me through the mud. They`re going to pick out the worst details of my life and throw it out there looking for somebody to blame.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Law enforcement combed through the trash at Allied Waste Services after dogs got two hits.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Volunteers continue combing through remote areas of Scurry County, looking for any sign of Hailey.

ADKINS: I`m just a friend, I`m her mother`s boyfriend.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Is Shawn at the top of your list right now?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He`s the only one being named, so I guess you could say that.

B. DUNN: Now he`s just not being cooperative and not talking to them.

ADKINS: I just hope she makes it home safe and sound soon because we`re ready for her to come home.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hailey`s case was on national television. And Nancy Grace seemed to be a little hard on you. What was that like having you question her like that?

ADKINS: I heard about it. I wasn`t there when Billie was getting interviewed by her. I was talking to the Texas rangers but I heard about it. It`s frustrating what she said about me, but it really doesn`t bother me, because my main focus is Hailey, we want her to come home safe.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: We are taking your calls, out to Erica. Hi, Erica.

CALLER: Hi.

GRACE: Hi Erica in Illinois, what`s your question, dear?

CALLER: Since the mom failed the first polygraph test, has she asked the police to take another one?

GRACE: That`s an excellent question. To Billie Dunn joining us tonight and taking your calls, I know cops told you deception possible on your first polygraph. That`s what you tell us. Cops say they never said any such of a thing. Are you willing to take another poly, and if not with the local cops, would you take one with the Feds?

B. DUNN: No. I would think about taking one with somebody else, with the FBI.

GRACE: That is the Feds.

B. DUNN: But that`s something I`d have to think long and hard about.

GRACE: Well let me tell you something Ms. Dunn. I want you to listen about what Marc Klaas is about to tell you. And if you think he doesn`t know what he`s talking about, Billie Dunn, he does. His 10-year-old girl Polly went missing many years ago. Marc Klaas, what should the mother and father be doing?

MARC KLAAS, KLAASKIDS FOUNDATION: Well, certainly being so close to the child, you as parents -- and the numbers point to you, you have to clear yourself and you have to do whatever is necessary in order to get yourself cleared. And that usually involves taking a polygraph so that the police can say, OK, we`re satisfied, this has nothing to do with you, it`s time to move forward.

Nancy, I`d also like to state that Clint said there`s no training manual, that he`s a rookie at this. But they both seem to have found a comfort level of active involvement in this case, that I think is serving them both very, very well. Because you know, the tough times are the quiet times. And the most difficult times of all are the times at night. So you want to stay busy, you want to move it forward day after day.

GRACE: To Donald Schweitzer, former detective Santa Ana PD. What do you make of them bringing cadaver dogs out to this landfill? They searched for hours and hours going through tons of debris. And they got some positive hits. We called tonight to find out about the hits, they would not deny they are related to Hailey.

DONALD SCHWEITZER, FORMER DETECTIVE: I don`t think we could make anything of it right now. Unfortunately, Nancy, it`s a logical place to search. I think the cadaver dogs are likely to find something if the remains are not too deep down. I don`t think we should make a lot of it right now.

GRACE: To Alexis Weed, our producer on the story, joining us out of New York. Alexis, weigh in. What do you know?

ALEXIS WEED, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: Nancy, we`re getting a little bit more information on what could be the timeline that has to do with Monday December 27th, the day in question. We`re finding out today from Billie Dunn, that perhaps there was a text message, she`s hearing from police, a text message was sent from her phone, that`s the phone that Hailey would use, she used her mother`s phone, sent at 2:00 in the afternoon, to the friend where she was supposedly going according to Shawn Adkins to the friend`s house, however, there was no response to that text. The text said just what are you doing to the friend.

GRACE: Now Billie Dunn, explain to me the significance of that?

B. DUNN: With Shawn getting the cell phone pings coming back to Colorado City that morning, I want to know who she talked to on the phone, it`s very important to me if she was on that phone and they`re not saying that anybody is an accountable witness it seems that has seen her on Monday. So I want to know who called my cell phone that morning and that afternoon, and who she called, and those are answers that I know they have, that they still haven`t gotten back with me on.

GRACE: To Clint Dunn, well, to both of you, I want to find out about this neighbor that you have said places her alive in the backyard at 12:00 noon the day she goes missing, this is the Monday after Christmas on Saturday.

Police keep telling us, they can`t confirm that anybody saw her alive at noon, which really changes the timeline, Billie and Clint Dunn, because think about it, that puts her seen by someone outside of you and Shawn Adkins, back until 9:00 the night before, when your 16-year-old son saw her playing on Xbox, all right?

After that, nobody saw her. That was it. That ruins the police time line. So help me out, how can we locate this person that claims they saw her at 12:00 noon on the Monday where she goes missing? First to you Clint Dunn?

C. DUNN: He did live next door, I believe he moved out. I don`t know his name or anything.

GRACE: Do you know where he went?

C. DUNN: No, I don`t.

GRACE: Do you know who would know?

C. DUNN: Well, the police would know.

GRACE: How about the people --

C. DUNN: And also --

GRACE: Go ahead, Billie.

B. DUNN: Yeah, the guy who owns it, Travis, he knows where Dennis went, the guy who saw her. But there`s also another lady, Jean Burris (ph), a neighbor of ours, whose grandchildren grew up with our kids. She says she saw her Monday, she said she told the FBI that twice. She saw her Monday between 10:30 and 12:00. She knows it was Monday because she doesn`t do hair on Sunday. She knows it was that day. She knows Hailey. And I believe Jillian spoke with her also, but police aren`t telling me that.

GRACE: We did talk to her, this is the hairstylist. Did she see her out the window or did her children see Hailey or both?

B. DUNN: She saw Hailey out the window.

GRACE: Right. Now she places her between 10:30 and 12:00, where was Hailey?

B. DUNN: Just cutting across her yard.

GRACE: Across her yard going to where?

B. DUNN: Possibly toward the dollar store that she walked to, but she lives catty corner from me. My backyard catty corners to her backyard.

GRACE: now you said she was on her way to the dollar store, did she ever make it to the dollar store? Do we know?

B. DUNN: No, they say the only video footage they have of her in the dollar store was Sunday.

GRACE: OK, that`s odd, because they do have video of her on Sunday. Is there anyway Jean was mistaken and saw her on Sunday?

B. DUNN: Several people tell me if Jean says she saw her Monday then she definitely saw her Monday. And again, she didn`t do hair on Sunday and she had just gotten finished doing somebody`s hair.

GRACE: That`s a good point. She was doing hair on Monday, yes?

B. DUNN: Right. Yes.

GRACE: OK, OK. That helps a lot. Out to the lines, Linda in Texas. Hi, Linda.

CALLER: Hello, you know, I`ve been doing some searching on foot and stuff, and I`ve gathered a lot of little information, and I`m not an authority, OK? But I have a pretty extended family, they don`t live nearby. If one of us went missing, within an hour or less, everybody that I know would have had a phone call, people that live in California would have found out and everything. We would have been calling around. I found out that some of the relatives found out by co-workers at work a day later. That is just unbelievable, and that`s like wasting time when a kid is missing. I just don`t believe it.

GRACE: OK, tell me about the relatives, caller, Linda in Texas, were they on the mom`s or the dad`s side? Are they extended relatives, like second and third cousins?

CALLER: They`re very close relatives, and I think that they probably would know who they are, and I don`t want to put that --

GRACE: OK, got it. Let`s go to Billie and Clint Dunn on that. First to you, Billie Dunn, did you put out an APB, all points bulletin? Did you tell all of your family immediately? What did you do? Explain to us once again that day when you got home from work?

B. DUNN: I told all of my -- and I believe I told all of my close family members and I got a hold of all of Hailey`s friends that day.

GRACE: Now, tell me what happened when you got home from work, does Adkins come pick you up?

B. DUNN: No, Tuesday when I got home, when I realized she didn`t spend the night at Mary Beth`s, I came straight home, my sister-in-law gave me a ride. And then Shawn met me here.

GRACE: And what happens when you get home from work that day? When does Shawn tell you she`s gone?

B. DUNN: He told me Monday afternoon that she had went to Mary Beth`s?

GRACE: So when do you realize she`s missing? When does he tell you she`s not there?

B. DUNN: He didn`t tell me, I found out first Tuesday afternoon, when I called to say, tell Hailey to come home.

GRACE: And what time was that, Billie?

B. DUNN: It was around noon on the 28th.

GRACE: And when you learned she had never come home, what did you do?

B. DUNN: I left work, stopped by the house first, to make sure she hadn`t got there, went by a couple of her friends` houses and went to the police station.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

ADKINS: As far as me and Hailey, Billie and David, we all get along just fine.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Shawn Adkins is a suspect in this case.

B. DUNN: What if he did do something to Hailey?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We want answers.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Volunteers are aiming their frustrations at Shawn Adkins.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: They search day after day after day.

ADKINS: I just hope she makes it home safe and sound.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The only main suspect in this case.

B. DUNN: I started getting told he`s just a hurdle we can`t get around.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We`re begging him, just tell us where to find her.

ADKINS: They`re entitled to their opinion.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: If you know, cooperate.

B. DUNN: Well he`s not cooperating, and he`s not talking to us.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: How can we find her? Come help us find her.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Adkins watching them search day after day from the front porch of the house.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It makes you want to walk up there and slap him.

B. DUNN: I never would have thought he could hurt me or the kids.

ADKINS: It hurts, it does.

B. DUNN: But now I just don`t know.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: What did you do with her, Shawn?

GRACE: Just as we go to air, slasher, slice and dice video emerges and photos, still photos, of the live-in boyfriend taken of him, much of it actually posted online, apparently he`s also smoking pot. I want to go to Rupa Mikkilineni joining us at Hailey`s home, what do you know about all of this?

MIKKILINENI: Nancy, we know that he had some video posted on a MySpace account. It`s him and his cousin smoking pot in a boat, screaming, yelling, carrying on, and then you have photographs that are really frightening. They look like something out of Freddie Krueger. He has a mask on, looks like some kind of a creature, and he`s got an apron, industrial style clothing, holding a chainsaw.

GRACE: An apron to catch the blood spatter.

MIKKILINENI: Exactly, Nancy. An apron that looks like it would be used in some type of machete massacre.

GRACE: OK Rupa, why?

MIKKILINENI: Nancy, we also know that he has a history or background of slasher films. Police found a collection in the bedroom of Hailey Dunn and Shawn Adkins` bedroom here at the house where there are slasher films, murder films, murder memorabilia, obsessed, absolutely obsessed with murder, Nancy.

GRACE: To Billie Dunn, you know what a back flip I would do if I thought someone watched a slice and dice slasher movie in front of the twins? What was he doing with all of that at the home?

B. DUNN: We all watched horror movies. Like I said before, we have mostly comedies in this house. But comedies can`t be looked down upon.

GRACE: Comedies can`t be what?

B. DUNN: Looked down upon.

GRACE: I`m not talking about the comedies, I`m happy about the comedies.

B. DUNN: I know.

GRACE: Caryn Stark, weigh in.

CARYN STARK, PSYCHOLOGIST: As I`ve been saying all along, the fact that he had all of these tapes, the violence, the murder and mayhem that he was obsessed with, it doesn`t surprised me at all that he felt a compulsion to act it out. There`s so much about this man that makes you see that he fits that kind of a suspect and that profile. Just the fact that he flaunts the law, that he goes on there, he doesn`t care that he acts that slasher part, that he`s smoking pot, and he knows that it`s going to go on video and that people will see it. He really -- I think I remember that he was threatening them saying he was going to kill Billie and kill her daughter. So this is not a guy that`s very trustworthy. Maybe she didn`t want to ignore the signs of what he was doing. He`s not normal. He`s definitely aggressive and obsessed and he fits the profile of someone who could be a killer.

GRACE: He is not a defendant in this case. He has not officially been named a suspect. Out to Dr. Panchali Dhar, doctor of internal medicine, author of "Before the Scalpel." Dr. Dhar, as always, thank you for being with us and helping us. Doctor, according to local reports, as a result of that landfill search, cadaver dogs did make a couple positive hits. What does it mean? Could they possibly have hit on something connected to Hailey?

PANCHALI SHAR, DOCTOR: I mean, at this point even if she was dumped into a landfill, she`s not a skeleton yet. It`s only 21 days, she`s still having soft tissue decomposition, intestine, liver, lung, brain, kidneys. Those have to decompose.

If they found a piece of bone, what I`m hearing is, was she dismembered? That would be even wilder than what we`re talking about. So I`m hoping it`s not a piece of bone. I`m expecting if they find her dead that it should be an entire skeleton hopefully. Otherwise, I don`t know what to think.

Cadaver dogs are specifically trained to detect the odor of decomposing human flesh even when the body is sealed in a structure or buried inches below the ground. And because it`s in a landfill, her body`s going to decompose even faster because it`s infested with bacteria, you`re going to have rats and roaches and worms all eating away at this body. So I hope it`s not that case.

GRACE: Our hope tonight is that Hailey is alive and will be brought home to her mother and father who, to their credit, are with us tonight, taking your calls live.

Back to Billie and Clint Dunn, Hailey`s parents. Take a look at this 13-year-old cheerleader. According to reports, she goes around the block, to go see a little friend for a sleepover, is never seen again.

To Clint Dunn, this is Hailey`s father, Hailey`s father, I know you have been out physically searching for your little girl. What do you make of your mother`s fear that she was attacked by the boyfriend? I don`t want to focus just on the boyfriend, all right, because it could be somebody else. I don`t want to have tunnel vision on him. But she told us, here on the show, that your daughter feared him, that he would come and stand at her door at night.

C. DUNN: Yeah, you know, that kind of scared me, but I really didn`t want to hear it. Like your expert said the other day, it`s her emotions and she`s seen the worst things that can happen out of this.

GRACE: Jean Casarez, what more can you tell us?

CASAREZ: You know, Nancy, we know Billie Dunn has said she left her cell phone at the house on that Monday and Billie Dunn has told us there was a text message at 2:00 in the afternoon to Mary Beth. But Nancy, we don`t know if Hailey made that text message, sent it, because it fits the suspect`s timeline to a T.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

GRACE: We now stop to remember MLK, Martin Luther King Jr., the great civil rights leader who lost his life in the pursuit of justice for all Americans. Tonight we honor him and his dream.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST: We have to give ourselves to this struggle until the end. Nothing would be more tragic than to stop at this point in Memphis. We have to see it through. And all the world today knows that we are here, we are standing before the forces of power in the state of Alabama saying we ain`t going to let nobody turn us around. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life, longevity has its place. I do believe and I`ve seen the promise land. I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight that we as a people will get to the promise land. I do believe.
