Cops: Teen Lovers Plot to Kill Parents; New Conspiracy Theory about Missing Plane

Aired March 18, 2014 - 19:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

JANE VELEZ-MITCHELL, HOST: Tonight, stunning new developments in a teen romance with a murderous twist. I`m talking about a knife. Police say a 13-year-old girl and her 15-year-old boyfriend hatched a plot to kill the girl`s parents, and the boyfriend actually slashed the mother`s throat. So why did this young couple do it?

Investigators say the girl`s parents were trying to keep them apart. And that made these teenagers murderous angry. There`s the dad. Sounds like the parents were right all along about this pair.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The unthinkable happened in this Ocala home.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She was attacked. Actually sliced her throat.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: In a twisted plot to kill both her parents, investigators say the pair conspired to commit murder.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Thirteen-year-old and 15-year-old basically put a plan together to kill the 13-year-old`s parents.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: They need to be prosecuted as an adult in this case.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Brought into the courtroom in shackles.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Cut her throat with a knife he had in his right hand.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: With a scarf covering her wounds, she stood next to her daughter as she faced a judge.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Fifteen-year-old Pedro Solis and his 13-year-old girlfriend are charged tonight with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted second-degree murder, the boy being charged as an adult. The judge has not decided whether to try the girl as an adult.

Did I mention, 13 years old she is? And we`re not naming her, showing her face.

Police say this 13-year-old girl woke her own mother out of her bed and lured the mom into the family`s garage by telling her, "Hey, Mom, I hear noises." When Mom goes to investigate, the boyfriend confronts her, demands she stop trying to keep the young lovers apart. Police say the boyfriend then slit the mom`s throat, using a knife that the girl got from the mother`s own kitchen.

Mom and daughter came face to face today for the first time since the attack. Mom stood by her daughter`s attorney, with a scarf around her neck, covering the wounds that are still healing. And there`s dad. Wheeling in. He was disabled before this happened. But I`m sure it didn`t help.

You`ve got to wonder. You see mom right there, on one side, the daughter on the other side. Is the mother loyally supporting her daughter, despite all this?

The girl, very brave for 13. Police say she also tried to escape on the way from jail to the courthouse today.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Since I was advised earlier this morning by representatives of the Marion County Sheriff`s Office, that (MUTED) had intended to escape when she was brought over to the courtroom this morning. That is why you are shackled. That is why I will remain shackled when you are before me.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Right now to former prosecutor Kimberly Priest Johnson. This was all going down in Florida. But was this the right call, for the judge to charge this 15-year-old as an adult? And what about the 13-year-old girl? What should happen to her?

KIMBERLY PRIEST JOHNSON, FORMER PROSECUTOR: You know, I`m not sure that she should be treated any differently. I mean, she`s two years younger, but she was just as much a part of this. I`m sure the thinking is that she wasn`t the one that actually did the slitting of the throat. Although she is the one that lured her mother to the garage.

You know, it`s interesting, because it`s based on the age-old problem of parent doesn`t like who the teen chooses to date. But obviously, the way of dealing with that here in violence is just what we`re seeing more and more of these days.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: You know, Joe Gomez, reporter, KRLD out of Dallas, there`s a back story here. This guy, the boyfriend, when he allegedly attacked the mother with the knife, he said, you shouldn`t have hit me the last time. So he is claiming that the parents hit him with a stick in their efforts to keep these two apart. What do you know?

JOE GOMEZ, REPORTER, KRLD: That`s right, Jane. There`s no mystery here. The parents did not want this couple together. They did not want their 13-year-old daughter with this 15-year-old young man.

And -- but how it got to this point, where he would actually slice the neck of his girlfriend`s mother, that`s just insane to me, in that she had some part in it by luring her, allegedly, to the garage while he was hiding. Then the disabled father got involved. They obviously wanted to keep this romance. Though how they -- how they could possibly imagined they were going to get away with this, Jane, that`s beyond me.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: You could see the scarf (ph). Here is the 15-year- old boyfriend. And they see this as some kind of Romeo and Juliette story. It`s not. It`s a story about violence, Simone Bienne, behavior expert. And, you know, one of the things that happens in our culture is we romanticize violence, and then we wonder why kids are acting out their romance violently.

SIMONE BIENNE, BEHAVIOR EXPERT: Yes. It`s this me-first culture. It`s dishonor. It`s like "If you disrespect me, then I`m going to do what I want."

And this is terrible. And that`s why I am so glad that the judge is actually going to try this as an adult crime. Because the message needs to get out there, Jane, that teens cannot behave as they want.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: But let me say this. OK? It`s 13 and 15. I don`t know, does anybody on our panel have a problem with charging these 13- and 15-year-olds as adults? What they did, if in fact they did it, was horrific. But it ain`t going to send no message to any other 15-year-old, Gilbert Parris. Because they don`t think that way.

In fact, in a second I`m going to tell you about how naive they are about the criminal justice system. Some of the things that this boy said on the way to driving there.

Remember, eventually, he slits the mother`s throat, according to cops. Then he goes after the dad, who`s disabled, and the dad, who`s disabled, says, "No, stop this, kid, and in fact, take my wife to the hospital."

And he ends up, the boy ends up driving the wife to the hospital. Is that a mitigator? And does that indicate that, basically, these kids really didn`t know what they were doing?

GILBERT PARRIS, FORMER PROSECUTOR: Not at all. In my eyes, I really think the -- first of all, the male in this scenario actually threatened the father, as well, and said, only when the father said that they would promise -- the mother said they would promise not to sue him and hold him responsible, that he agreed to take them to seek medical attention.

This act is so incredibly heinous. There`s no question that they have to be held responsible. Now, for the 15-year-old, he should be charged as an adult. This is one of the few crimes that would fit in, even here in New York. It`s one of the crimes that would fit in under the statute for a 15-year-old to be prosecuted.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: But Adam Thompson, criminal defense attorney, you know, heard it there from Gilbert. This kid said, on the way to the hospital, when he`s driving the mom, who`s got her throat slit, "You`ve got to promise not to sue me." That reveals that he had absolutely zero knowledge of how the criminal justice system works, that he`s worried about being sued, as opposed to being arrested, charged with attempted murder, and thrown in jail for the rest of his life.

ADAM THOMPSON, CRIMINAL DEFENSE ATTORNEY: I mean, it`s very unfortunate, but I think you were right at the top of the lead-in to this case, Jane, when you said that teenagers today -- this is a culture of violence we`re living in. And you know, I don`t doubt that kids 13, 15 years old understand the difference between right and wrong. But just how much they do and how much the violence is indoctrinated into their thinking as a daily part of their life is really what`s at question here.

I mean, I`m not saying that the mom is at any fault here. But look, she was trying to break up this romance by hitting the kid with a stick. Violence begets violence. So where do you think...

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I agree. Is that a mitigator? Lisa Lockwood, investigator, should that be -- author of "Undercover Angel" -- should that be a mitigator?

LISA LOCKWOOD, INVESTIGATOR: Well, look at the fact of -- the parents obviously tried to keep them away from each other. So I would want to know about the delinquency prior to that. What kind of issues did they have with their daughter as far as disobedience? Did she stay out late? Did she disobey? Had she raised her hand to them at any point in time? Did Solis go to attack them in order to try to sustain the relationship?

So yes, it`s absolutely a mitigator, because that was the issue. Ultimately, that they decided they would not be able to be together based on being struck with a stick. And they felt that that was their last resort, unfortunately.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Let`s go out to the phone lines. Bob, Pennsylvania. Go ahead.

CALLER: My question is I saw her mom was on her daughter`s side. It seemed like her daughter -- seems like her daughter thinks that she`s innocent, too. And she was involved, too. And my thing is, do you think her daughter will get charged the same as her boyfriend?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, there`s the mom with the scarf right there. And there`s the father. They showed up in court. The mother -- and I`ll go back to Kimberly Priest Johnson on this, stood next to her daughter`s defense attorney. So to me that says that she`s taking her daughter`s side. If the mother ultimately decides she doesn`t want to prosecute, how does that impact this case?

JOHNSON: I don`t think it will impact it at all. Look, the fact -- at least in my mind, that she`s standing beside her daughter doesn`t mean she`s taking her side. It means she`s standing by her daughter, because she`s a mother. And that`s what most mothers would do.

You know, the mother did tell the police that -- what her daughter did, and what her daughter`s boyfriend did. So I don`t think she`s trying to cover up for her in any way. She`s just being supportive as a mother.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Simone Bienne, final thought on this.

BIENNE: I actually think that her mother might be in denial, and might be protective of the daughter and still think that, as a 13-year-old, she may have been led astray by a 15-year-old. So I think this is going to play out.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I think it will be a factor ultimately. Ultimately, we`ll have to see. We`ll stay on top of this.

Now, I`ve got to tell you, I almost fell off my chair this morning. There`s a crazy new conspiracy theory emergency about the plane that vanished into thin air. Are we looking at a potentially horrific scenario for Flight 370? Do we need to prepare for the end game? Is there an end game? Is this just part one of an ominous story? Stay right there.

And I want to hear from you, what are your conspiracy theories, on the other side.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: I asked myself, what is the end game? Why would they do this, if in fact, they are doing it deliberately? Why would they take an airplane full of passengers and roar around the skies and hide it or do whatever else they`re doing underneath the radar? Why would they do this? Why do they want this for?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The idea of being hidden in plain sight.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: New clues surfacing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Whether or not it was deliberate.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Someone on the plane put into the computer system a new direction for the plane to go in.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: The search area, about as large as Australia.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Many questions surround Flight 370.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: All this movement, and nobody`s seen it since.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Tonight, an ominous, and I mean ominous new conspiracy theory that proposes a terrifying scenario of what might -- might have happened to that missing jet. Is there an evil end game we don`t know about yet.

Such theories are gaining steam as officials now say it`s almost certain somebody intentionally reprogrammed the cockpit computer, typing in the seven or eight key strokes that caused Flight 370 to veer way off- course. The average person would not know how to do that. That combined with reports the jet flew for more than seven hours after takeoff, long after it lost contact with air traffic control, raises even more questions about the possibility that it might -- I say might -- have been hijacked.

We don`t know what happened. But now a new terrifying conspiracy theory has posted and, reportedly, is getting a lot of buzz at -- reportedly by an airline pilot. He wrote a blog, warning, "We need to think about what we`re going to do if missing Flight 370 suddenly reappears in the sky."

He believes the Boeing 777, which vanished 11 days ago with 239 people on board, is extremely valuable to terrorists intact. And until it`s found, we need to be on high alert. Here is what he told Boston Herald Radio.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The 777 is one of the longest-range aircraft out there. Once it`s refueled and whatever ill equipment, you know, devastation they would want to put onboard, they could go anywhere from where it landed to 1,600 miles away. People say, you know, why take a 777 if you were going to put a nuclear device on there. You could do it with a Learjet. True, but the Learjet couldn`t go for 16 hours. This is the worst case that is possible, and we have to prepare for it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: This conspiracy theorist painted extremely scary scenarios, saying if this plane was hijacked and landed safely, it could be turned into the ultimate weapons delivery system for terrorists.

So first of all, I want to ask you all at home and our panel, what`s your theory about what happened to this plane? Give me a holler: 1-877- JVM-SAYS, 1-877-586-7297.

Straight out to the Lion`s Den. We`re going to talk to an aviation expert in just a second. But first, I want to start with Adam Thompson, criminal defense attorney.

What do you think of this conspiracy theory that this plane was hijacked, landed somewhere safely, and is then going to be repurposed and re -- taken off into the sky as some sort of weapons delivery system targeting, maybe, a major American city or something like that?

THOMPSON: You have to give this credence, because in this day and age, we could track almost anything. You can look from space and see a license plate. We track asteroids. We track almost anything in the air to perfection. How do we lose an airplane? So you have to be worried that this terrorist that might have taken over this plane can refuel it, where it can travel almost anywhere.

I can tell you right now, Israel is on the highest alert they can be on with this exact possibility. So what do we do if we see it coming toward the U.S.? Are we going to take the chance and let this plane come and land and crash somewhere, possibly with a nuke onboard? We`ve got to be really prepare for this.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, let me say this. Let me say this. There`s a whole lot of people who hear this theory and say, "That`s crazy. Come on. It`s far-fetched. Why are you even talking about that?"

You know what? I hope it`s out of the realm of possibility. But we`ve got to remember 9/11. Before 9/11, the idea of a coordinated terrorist attack using four hijacked commercial passenger jets directed at four different famous American targets -- and I`m considering tower one and two as two different targets -- it would have never entered our minds except as a movie script.

You know, so I`ve got to go to Lisa Lockwood, before we get to our expert and tell you, do you think this is so crazy? Or is this something we`ve really got to consider?

LOCKWOOD: Oh, I actually think the government has thought about this. And look at different national governmental contingency plans. If an aircraft comes into radar zone, and it`s not authorized, there`s no transponder, the -- most governments are trained to take out that aircraft. Some of them will have national security go out there and try to guide it into another area.

But in this particular case, because of the fact that it`s been missing, I believe that if it shows up, it will be taken out.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Listen, there are so many people searching for this plane right now, by air, by sea. And it`s lost without a trace. I mean, they`re searching the size of the United States. If it crashed, experts say there would have to have been some debris somewhere. Listen to this.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Most of the aircraft, there would be parts of the aircraft that would float. Whether now, or in a short period of time from now. I think you`re going to see some debris coming to the surface that, through either a serial number or through paint, you`re going to be able to determine that it was this aircraft.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`re delighted to have noted aviation expert Jim Tilmon with us tonight.

Jim, here`s the thing. Eleven days of searching and nada. If -- do you think it`s possible hijackers could have landed this plane somewhere and found a runway that, just off the beaten path, that nobody seems to know about? Is that a possibility?

JIM TILMON, AVIATION EXPERT: Yes, it`s a possibility. And most people say remote. But so is almost everything else we`ve heard in terms of scenarios. They`re all remote. This whole thing is so bizarre, until who can say what makes good common sense and what doesn`t?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I agree with you. And I`ve got to relate a thing that happened to me many years ago. I was in a small plane, a prop job -- actually, I think it was an amphibian -- and somebody was taking me on a flight to Upper Captiva Island. And he started to land. I said, "Wait a second. Where is the runway? What are you doing?"

And it was kind of a joke that he played on me. And Jim, it was a runway. But you couldn`t see it from the air. It was disguised. It was like a grassy runway, and you couldn`t really tell it was a runway. I know this is not a small prop job, but could something like that have happened?

TILMON: Well, there are so many abandoned airfields throughout that area from World War II and afterwards. It could find a place to go.

Look, you know, there are two or three approaches to this. One says that this was a well-planned, well-thought-out, well-practiced, very skillfully carried out situation. And it was a plan from the very beginning, before they even took off.

Another plan has an approach where it says, no, there was something catastrophic that happened to create all these things that we are talking about. We have to be able to know a little bit more. And we`ve been getting some very bad information all along throughout this investigation.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: I agree. And you`ve got to wonder -- I`ve heard so much about the pilot and co-pilot. I`m wondering about the flight attendants. If anybody has access to that plane after the pilot and the co-pilot, I`m talking about the cockpit, it`s the flight attendants. And you know, I see it. I fly a lot. I see that, yes, the doors are more reinforced now after 9/11, presumably also on this airline. I would like to double-check that. But these pilots come out to go to the bathroom. They come out, they chat with the flight attendants. I`ve seen it happen myself with my own eyes. So they know they would have the opportunity, perhaps, to get inside that cockpit. On long flights these pilots do go out, and they use the bathroom.

Let`s go to the phone lines. Coffee, D.C., what`s your theory? Coffee, are you having a cup of coffee or are you going to talk to us? OK, Coffee, talk to us.

CALLER: Huh?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Coffee, what`s your theory, dear?

CALLER: I`m sorry, what did you say?

VELEZ-MITCHELL: What would you like to tell us tonight? We`re live on the air.

CALLER: Oh, yes, I`m sorry.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: No problem.

CALLER: I wanted to tell you that, by the way, Jane Velez, I love you.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Thank you.

CALLER: I think they got swallowed by a vortex.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Swallowed by a vortex? Well, you know, there are outlandish conspiracy theories. There`s, you know, the Bermuda Triangle theory, the alien abduction theory.

The reason why this caught my eye, Kimberly Priest Johnson, criminal defense attorney, is that this is the first theory that is scary and ominous, but is not ridiculous. It`s not a vortex theory, and no offense to -- I hope Coffee from D.C. keeps watching, but it`s not just swallowed by a vortex, Bermuda Triangle, on the "Lost" TV show island, taken by aliens. This is an actual scenario.

And I think that we have to open our minds to crazy possibilities for our own defense. Because before 9/11, if I had said to you three days before 9/11, something like that`s going to happen, four hijacked planes, with something like 19 hijackers taking commercial jets into the World Trade Center 1 and 2, and into the Pentagon, and then aiming for another location in Washington, D.C., you probably would have called me crazy, right?

JOHNSON: Yes, I would have. Look, this is the era we live in. And this is a plausible theory that we should take seriously. And I agree with Lisa, I think that our defense and security divisions, not only in the U.S., but around the world, are doing just that. We have to have a plan, you know, in the event that this did happen.

And I can very honestly see terrorists using this plane to either destroy the actual passengers, or even worse, a lot more people.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: If this plane still does exist, what should happen when it goes back up in the air, if it ever goes back up in the air? If we`re confronted by that plane, should we shoot it down? Should we ask, who`s onboard? Are some of the innocent people who were last on that plane still onboard?

Stay right there. This is a scary conspiracy theory that should make us all think.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The flight management system, I just think of it as kind of a really robust GPS system. All the coordinates, all that is necessary to get the plane in the air with the assistance of the pilot and co-pilot is loaded into this computer.

All we need to do now to divert is punch in the destination where we want to go. OK? And enter it right up top here. The aircraft then asks us, with a little white line, are we sure we want to deviate from here to here? All we do is execute, and the airplane, as you can see, starts to deviate with that left turn.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And tonight, we`re hearing that it`s almost certain that somebody typed into that very system you`re seeing there, on the flight 307, the seven or eight key strokes that changed the course and made it go way off-course. All right. So who did that? What was their motive? How did they do that?

Let`s go to the phone lines. Brenda, Florida.

CALLER: Hi. I believe terrorists have taken the plane, and they`re...

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, let me go to Jim Tilmon, aviation expert. If this plane was taken by terrorists -- that`s a big "if" -- and if it then takes off again, and it`s seen on radar, what should the United States and the international community do? Shoot it down?

TILMON: I don`t think anybody has a clue as to what they should do. Because as long as we have people onboard, you`ve got passengers on there that represent several nations. I mean, you`ve got 150-some Chinese and you`ve got 75 other people onboard from all over the place. Who has the authority, or the will, or whatever it takes to shoot that airplane down?

At the same time, if it`s being used to threaten objects on the ground, why wouldn`t you want to stop it somehow? It`s a real diplomatic mess.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: It`s a nightmare. So Lisa Lockwood, investigator, what should the United States do, or the international community, if suddenly Flight 370 is, oh, my gosh, it`s in the air? We don`t know if it has two people on board or 239.

LOCKWOOD: Absolutely. And we have no way to communicate to find out if there are people or not onboard. So our national air defense is trained to take that aircraft out.

As I mentioned before, we have the ability with our national air defense to go ahead and get as close to it as possible to try to ascertain. But even with getting close -- and I don`t know if they have a thermal system set up to see how many bodies are on there -- they have to make the decision, it`s a split decision, as it gets closer into our national air space, to take it out in order to protect our government from possible nukes, and make the decision that there are no people onboard. I mean, if they aren`t able to do it, I truly believe that we`re set to take that aircraft out.

THOMPSON: People have cell phones. People have cell phones. All they`ve got to do is dial out and say there`s people on the flight.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Come on, Adam. None of the 239 people made any communications.

THOMPSON: That`s the point. If the plane came back up again, they should be able to call out if there`s really people onboard. That`s common sense. All they`ve got to do is look at facts. If the plane is lost...

VELEZ-MITCHELL: What are you talking about? If these people were taken hostage, they would take their cell phones away from them. I don`t understand what you`re saying.

THOMPSON: If the plane was resurfaced again with the ruse that everyone was onboard and safe, then people should be able to call out and make calls. If not, then you have to assume that there`s something diabolical going on.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Oh, so what you`re saying, and that`s a very good point -- I take it all back -- if it resurfaced, the U.S. government should say, "If somebody`s on there, I want you to have these people call us on their cell phones. And if not, we`re going to shoot the plane down."

To which I could imagine the hijackers would say, "Well, sorry, we got on board with no cell phones, and we`re not going to put them on."

Then the U.S. would have to say, "All right. Well, put one person on the phone." And they could put any, let`s say young woman on the phone, and how would we know if that is actually somebody taken hostage, or was originally on the plane or not. I mean, it`s a nightmare.

But I understand your point. And I take it back, Adam Thompson. Yes, there would have to be negotiation. But when people are on a suicide mission, do they even want to negotiate?

It`s crazy. And unfortunately, because this whole thing is a big question mark, this is the kind of scenario that we have to discuss. It`s not sheer speculation. What it is, is taking a look at possible scenarios so that you can plan and make contingency plans in the hope that you never have to use them.

All right. Coming up, an unbelievable story. A woman said she stabbed her husband in church for worshipping Nascar. We`re going to play the 911 call for you. It`s scary.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)

STEPHEN HAMMAN, VICTIM: Please, I don`t know how bad my stab wound is but it`s bad and it`s bleeding a lot.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Calm down and talk to me. Where were you stabbed at?

HAMMAN: I`m stabbed in the chest, right side, high. I think it got my lung. It hurts to breathe.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Stay on the phone with me. Are you there at the church?

HAMMAN: I came back home, man. My wife -- I don`t know what happened.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Ok, sir. Sir, calm down for me.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Tonight, shocking new details in the mysterious and tragic murder of a pregnant mom whose cell phone might have accidentally called her sister as she`s being attacked by a mystery man. This beautiful young mother, eight weeks pregnant, was beaten and strangled. Her body turned up exactly one week after she vanished.

Tonight I`m going to talk exclusively to the sister who heard that accidental phone call. Cops found 24-year-old D`Lisa Kelley`s body dumped inside this abandoned home less than two miles from where she was last seen -- the Friday before last -- leaving her grandmother`s house.

The neighbor who last saw D`Lisa walking down the street said it looked like she was on the phone arguing with somebody as she was walking down the street. About an hour after she walked away, one of her sisters got an alarming phone call from her. She`d heard D`Lisa frantically screaming at the top of her lungs, "Stop it. Stop it. Get off of me." Then she heard a mysterious man in the background yelling, "Shut up. Stop screaming."

Her sister tried to call back but nobody answered. Instead, the sister got this mystery text from her phone saying "Call you back in a minute." That follow up never happened.

Did D`Lisa send the text or did her killer? D`Lisa`s sisters Lashaun and Jasmine Steward join us tonight, as our exclusive guests. I thank you for coming on. I know this is very difficult for you. I`m so sorry for your loss. And I know you want to solve the mystery of what happened to your loved one.

Now, Jasmine, you are, for our viewers, in the stripes, you got the bizarre frantic phone call. Take us through that phone call. How did you know it was an accidental phone call and what exactly was said?

JASMINE STEWARD, VICTIM`S SISTER: She was screaming, telling a man to get off the top of her, stop. And he was telling her shut up, stop screaming. You want to be hard-headed. When she kept getting louder and louder, I started screaming her name and she wasn`t answering me. The call lasted for a minute and 11 seconds before it hung up.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Now, how did it hang up? Because, you know, my first thought was, did the mystery man -- and you couldn`t recognize this man`s voice?

J. STEWARD: No.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And suddenly, click? Did you get a sense that he walked over and grabbed it, or --

J. STEWARD: It just went silent. When I looked at my phone it wasn`t on there anymore.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And what was your reaction after hearing that? I mean, I can`t even imagine your sister screaming, there`s a mystery man, you`re looking and your phone suddenly clicks. What did you do? What was your reaction?

J. STEWARD: I called my little sister Lashaun and asked her to call the phone to see if somebody would pick up. But she said there was nobody answering it. And I kept trying to call it. Nobody answered. And that`s when I got a text message saying I`ll call you in a minute. But she never called. And I texted back, what`s going on? Was he hitting you? You were screaming in the background. Then as I sent that text message, I got another one saying he thought I was with another dude.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wait, wait, this is new. This is new. You got another text message from your sister`s phone saying he thought I was with another dude?

J. STEWARD: Yes.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. Wow. So the last we heard was that your sister, D`Lisa said, I`ll call you in a minute, but now you`re saying that there was another text, after you were like, what`s happening? You know, honey, tell us what`s happening, is he hitting you? And then she texted back, at least somebody using her cell phone texted back -- say it again?

J. STEWARD: He thought I was with another dude.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: He thought I was with another dude. Lashaun, I want to ask you, do you think this mystery man is the killer of your sister? And do you have any idea who this might be?

LASHAUN STEWARD, VICTIM`S SISTER: I`m not sure who it might be. But I do think he either knows something, or it is him.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. We`re going to try to solve this mystery. We have some of the best experts standing by

Some very questionable and bizarre things happened from the very moment that your sister went missing. Ok 5:30, the Friday before last D`Lisa is last seen walking away from her grandma`s house to a bus stop. She`s going to her best friend`s wake who was died in a car crash. She never makes it to the wake.

Then 6:45 p.m. about an hour and 15 minutes later, you just heard, her sister gets a frantic phone call, she hears this struggling going on and a mystery man screaming "shut up". The line goes dead. 15 minutes later, she gets this mysterious text from her sister saying, "Call you in a minute". And then we just learned a new text saying, "He thought I was with another man". So that implies jealousy.

Now, exactly one week after all that, her body`s found in an abandoned home about two miles away from where she was last seen. And she was beaten and strangled.

Out to the "Lion`s Den", Lisa Lockwood, investigator, police, first of all, could use pings, I would assume, to determine where that terrible phone call and text message came from. What do you make of the situation as an investigator?

LISA LOCKWOOD, INVESTIGATOR: That`s -- first of all, I`m very, very sorry for the family loss. It`s incredibly unfortunate -- rage, jealousy, that sort of thing. My hunch had been all along that she knew who the offender was. Now in light of the new information with the jealousy of, "he thought I was with another dude", kind of portrays that to be the actual case.

The police officers will find out the location. A little bit more information that was discovered in the police canvas is that she was spotted one day after that phone call, that last phone call that her sister heard, and as far as five days later, at a restaurant where they were able to identify her based on her wardrobe, that she had been alive still at that point. So there`s no doubt in my mind that she knew who the offender was.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. Well, on the other side of the break, we`re going to talk about her relationships. And actually, we have to -- we`re going to do that right now. Joe Gomez, what do you know about her relationships? And we can say, the police do not have a suspect, but she was living with somebody.

JOE GOMEZ, REPORTER, KRLD DALLAS: Well, we know that -- yes, we know that she had a boyfriend, Jane. We also know that her boyfriend is cooperating with authorities. Now, there`s been a lot of musings on social media as to where she had been seen, all these sightings and so forth.

But you just got some exclusive information on your show tonight, Jane. The fact that we now know there was a text message out that said that "he thought I was with another dude", I mean her boyfriend is cooperating with police, we know that. But police are also holding a lot of information close to the vest as they should be in this case.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, got to leave it right there. And look what a beautiful, what a beautiful young woman. I want to say, my heart goes out to you, Lashaun and Jasmine. You`ve helped us so much to understand this story. Please keep us posted. And we will stay on top of this story to get justice for your sister.

L. STEWARD: Thank you.

J. STEWARD: Ok. Thank you.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Thank you.

Did a woman drive into a church and lure her husband there before stabbing him in the chest? All over Nascar?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hamman told police she thought her husband was worshipping the Nascar race at Bristol, which made her mad and she began having thoughts that the devil put in her head. That`s why she stabbed him in the chest.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Damage has -- pretty much has taken out her doors.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hamman`s husband told police he found her lying here in front of the altar. When he went to check on her, she stabbed him in the right side of his chest with a knife.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: It`s a very weird thing.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hamman told police she felt her husband was worshipping the Nascar race at Bristol which made her mad.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Did a husband`s passion for Nascar cause a Tennessee wife to crack and stab her husband in the heart? Or was the devil in her? That`s what Stephanie Hamman told cops after she stabbed her husband, Stephen, while in a Tennessee church. Stephanie allegedly drove her car into the church, right into it, and then called her husband to tell him she had been in an accident. When he showed up to help her, she was allegedly lying in front of the altar with a knife.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

HAMMAN: Please I don`t know how bad my stab wound is, but it`s bad and it`s bleeding a lot.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Ok, calm down and talk to me. Where were you stabbed at?

HAMMAN: I`m stabbed in the chest, right side, high. I think it got my lung. It really hurts to breathe.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Well, stay on the phone with me. Are you there at the church?

HAMMAN: I came back home, man. My wife -- I don`t know what happened.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Ok, sir. Sir, calm down for me.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: That`s right. She used a knife, cops say, on her husband, stabbed him in the chest. Now, husband Stephen is in stable condition tonight. Though he said during the 911 call he thought it was an accident. Stephanie told cops she intended to stab her husband. Why? Because of the devil. Listen to what she told cops, as read by an HLN employee.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: After I drove through the doors, I put all the things I brought to the church at the altar. I called my husband and told him I had wrecked. I laid down in front of the altar until he got there. The devil told me to take the kitchen knife with me. I prayed I would not have to use it on him, but I did.

When Stephen came back to check on me, I told him the devil was in me and I stabbed him in the heart. Have you heard if he`s dead or not?

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Wow. She also told police that God told her to drive into the church, and that she loves to smoke weed. Stephanie is charged with first-degree attempted murder and felony vandalism.

Straight out to Officer Dustin Dean of the Churchill Police Department, you arrested Stephanie. What was her behavior like? Because I`m trying to figure out, was she severely psychotic or having some kind of emotional mental breakdown? Could this be as a result of her declared love of weed? What do you make of it, Officer?

OFFICER DUSTIN DEAN, CHURCHILL POLICE DEPARTMENT (via telephone): Well, she was not impaired. She was actually very articulate, when we first met with her. She was very polite, was more than willing to speak with us and did not appear to be impaired on any type of drugs. But this was not making any sense with any sentence that she told us.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: According to cops, Stephanie said she stabbed her husband with the knife because the devil told her to do it. And told her to go to the church and do this. Now, after she stabbed him, according to cops, he called 911. He ran home and called 911. Listen.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Was it a pocketknife she stabbed you with? Do you know what it was she used?

HAMMAN: It was a kitchen knife, man.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Kitchen knife.

HAMMAN: She didn`t mean to. She just -- I was trying to get a-hold of her. I said, "Baby, do you even know what`s going on? You just wrecked into the church."

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: And she stabbed you by accident?

HAMMAN: I tried to wrestle her and I didn`t know she had a knife in her hand. I thought her ring cut me.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: So Officer Dustin Dean, you know, he sounds like a good guy who thinks it`s an accident. But apparently police think it`s not because she`s charged with first-degree attempted murder. What did you make of what she did?

DEAN: It`s hard to accidentally stab someone in the chest in the manner she did. Based on her statements and the evidence, I had a little problem believing that it was just an accident. She was very articulate over how this occurred.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: And last question, Officer. You don`t think she was having a mental breakdown or hearing voices? She sounded lucid?

DEAN: She did, but again, she was -- didn`t make any sense with any of the story that she would tell us. We would ask her a question and would go way off base and just tell us what God had told her to do and that God told her to run through the church and the devil told her that she needed to stab him.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Well, that sounds to me like somebody who is hearing voices, the devil and God. Thank you, Officer.

Stay right there. On the other side we`re going to talk to her pastor, Pastor Joel Trigg.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Time for Pet of the Day, send your pet pics to hlntv.com/jane.

Sadie -- oh, top of the morning to you. Oh, yes. Repo -- repo man, I assume? Yes. And Boom Boom, a rabbit. It`s so great to have another species on Pet of the Day. We love it.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: We`re delighted to have with us Pastor Joel Trigg. I`m sorry your church was badly damaged, sir, and I know you don`t minister to this woman who drove in, but what do you make of this whole situation?

JOEL TRIGG, PASTOR (via telephone): You know, we were kind of bewildered. We got the call and we weren`t aware of what was going on that night until the next day when the press release came out and realized that we did not know the individual. But we`re just trying to put our pieces back together at this point.

VELEZ-MITCHELL: What do you make of the fact that she, according to cops, was hearing the devil and God talk to her? Do you think that`s a psychotic break, smoking too much marijuana, or what?

TRIGG: Well, I really don`t know. I personally work with individuals who have issues like that from time to time, and, you know, it could have been one or the other. There`s no real -- no one has really settled on what was happening there, but sometimes when someone has a psychotic episode, they do hear voices and they think it`s God telling them to do something --

(CROSSTALK)

VELEZ-MITCHELL: Pastor, you are a delight. Thank you.

Nancy has more on this story, next.
