Dr. Drew

NBA Team Owner: Hypersexual?

Aired April 30, 2014 - 21:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DR. DREW PINSKY, HLN HOST (voice-over): Tonight, is alleged racist Donald Sterling hypersexual? The woman who started it all says she wants to be president. And we will hear from Sterling`s wife.

Plus, a teacher who appears to be drunk rips into cops for arresting her.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You`re really (EXPLETIVE DELETED) me up, you know that? My whole (EXPLETIVE DELETED) job.

PINSKY: Then, more Tori and Dean. Is Dean suicidal?

Let`s get started.

(MUSIC)

(END VIDEO CLIP)

PINSKY: Good evening.

My co-host is Samantha Schacher.

And coming up, we will hear from the women in Donald Sterling`s life including V. Stiviano and Mrs. Sterling, herself.

SAMANTHA SCHACHER, CO-HOST: And I believe there is somebody else in his past, Dr. Drew.

PINSKY: Really? Going to tell me about it?

SCHACHER: Uh-huh.

PINSKY: All right. We`ll get into that.

But, first, all eyes on the woman who insists she`s not, everybody got this, she is not Donald Sterling`s mistress. V. Stiviano. Watch this video. You`re going to see a bunch of footage. Some of it from Instagram.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She`s very sad about the decision to ban Donald Sterling for life.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You saw the cameras out here. You knew were going to be out here. What made you decide to come skating?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I started skating when I was 2.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Are you surprised by all the attention by the media?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Just trying to walk my dog.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: OK.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Are you and Donald still dating?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: She also said for the record she is not his mistress.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This is the problem with having a woman on the side. She`s never satisfied. Once a woman finds out a man is mot going to leave his wife, that`s when she takes him to hell and try to destroy him.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This particular type of scandal, it really does touch everyone.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

PINSKY: Credit to Instagram for some of those pictures.

Joining us, Vanessa Barnett, social commentator, host of HipHollywood.com, Julianne Barberie, TV personality (AUDIO GAP) "Midday L.A.", and Segun Oduolowu, social commentator.

All right. Sam, you said the scandal revealed somebody else?

SCHACHER: His wife, Rochelle, Dr. Drew.

PINSKY: Oh, yes?

SCHACHER: Yes, earlier this week she did make a statement she, herself, is not a racist. However, according to these court documents that I have right here from 2009, they definitely contradict that. So, for example, a tenant in one of their buildings asked to have his rent reduced and claims, she said, quote, "Who do you think you are, you black mother f-er?"

And same year, a former housing manager quoted her as saying, quote, "Oh my God, this is so filthy, I can`t remodel my apartment the way I want because Latinos are so filthy."

PINSKY: Wow. Much to everyone`s surprise, Shelley was at the game last night. A picture over here with an African-American gentleman who appears to be a bodyguard.

SCHACHER: You know who also was at the game last night?

PINSKY: Who?

SCHACHER: Segun.

PINSKY: Segun, you paid a ticket to support the team?

SEGUN ODUOLOWU, SOCIAL COMMENTATOR: Actually, no, I was invited to go and went as a journalist to see what the fuss was going to be about. I was actually very heartened, very, very excited by the show the fans did where they cheered for their team and the players, which is what it should be about.

But his wife is a monster. I`m going to tell you why she`s a monster. She was at the game, front row center as always dressed all in black, trying to show solidarity with the fans. And as Sam said, the court documents don`t lie. She faked being a census reporter, to find out who was black and Latino living in the buildings Donald Sterling owned. And she lived with this man knowing what he was for years.

So, for her to even be out there like the scorned wife or the victim is shameful and it`s shameless.

PINSKY: Vanessa, I was saying that all along, she knew her husband was a racist. She had some role in this even if it wasn`t as active as we`re finding.

VANESSA BARNETT, HIPHOLLYWOOD.COM: Absolutely. I do believe this is as active as we`re finding. Birds of a feather flock together.

If he felt this comfortable being as racist as he was with his mistress sidepiece or whatever she was, then you have to know that he is saying all kinds of things to his wife. And I wouldn`t be surprised if she got 100 hours doc somewhere of some crazy things she said.

Now, I was really surprised she did show up at the game. I heard that Doc Rivers invited her to be there. I`m more surprised she`s photographed with that black man standing next to her because we all know her husband does not approve of that.

PINSKY: All right. Now, Jillian, I want to read something from a court document. There we go. It`s somewhere in here.

Because -- do you have it written down somewhere, Sam, any chance?

SCHACHER: No, I don`t have that one you`re referring to.

PINSKY: I`m going to get it up on the prompter. I want to read this word for word.

Jillian, I want to offer you the first comment off of what I`m about to read. I heard Stephen Colbert read this and I thought this is the greatest thing I`ve ever read, ever heard. Guys, please give me the top of the page if I`m going to read this at all.

There we go. Thank you very much.

Now, the deal here is this is first of all any kids in the room, please out. Please. And the reason I am reading this, there`s always a reason I do stuff -- this gives you insight into this man that was so stunning to read this, to hear it. I thought, oh my God. That`s what this guy is. Now, I see it. In addition to being a racist, there`s something other stuff going on here, too.

So, here`s what I have. Sterling was involved in a lawsuit ten years ago. He was sued by a former, another lover, mistress, not mistress, whatever they are.

SCHACHER: Right.

PINSKY: To give back the title to a house he had already given her. And now I`m going to read to you from the deposition, everybody. So hold on. Everyone put their seat belts on.

SCHACHER: Should I get some popcorn?

PINSKY: If you wish. You might throw it up, though.

(CROSSTALK)

PINSKY: You need a vomit bag with the popcorn. Here`s what he said.

Mr. Sterling. Not me, Mr. Sterling, please? Don`t take this out of context.

"Well, I fool around sometimes I do. When a girl seduces me and tells me all these nice, hot stories and dirty things and tells me how much she wants to" -- can I say that word? She wants to --

SCHACHER: Sure.

PINSKY: "She wants to suck on me and take my shoes off and licks my feet and touches me. When I`m in a limousine, she takes off all of her clothes. The limo driver said, what`s going on? She started" doing that again. I`m not going to say it twice. "I thank her for making me feel good."

And now, here`s the craziness. Now, the lawyer in the deposition now has a follow-up question to all this diatribe of this goofy stuff he`s into. This question is, sir, the question was, is this your handwriting?

SCHACHER: Gosh. Wow.

PINSKY: Jillian?

JILLIAN BARBERIE, MIDDAY L.A.: That`s a case of verbal diarrhea.

Listen, apparently he paid 500 bucks a pop and he`s paying a lot more, Ferraris, Birkin bags. I`m a woman who was gainfully employed. I like to buy my own cars and my own purses. But God love these girls that go out there and kiss that crusty old lizard and suck on whatever. Wow.

No victim, no crime. That`s the way I look at it. These girls are extending favors to him and he`s extending favors back.

PINSKY: But, Jillian, there is a crime. First of all, the guy --

SCHACHER: Married.

PINSKY: He`s married. There`s a family.

BARNETT: Yes, his wife was fully aware. There`s pictures of them two together.

PINSKY: Segun?

BARBERIE: She`s aware. At this point she`s been married to that crusty lizard for 50 years. I would be thrilled that he was with somebody else.

PINSKY: Segun?

ODUOLOWU: I think everybody is missing the point. He`s in trouble for what he has said. What he`s done, actually done, is way worse. He was not allowing blacks and Latinos to live in his buildings. That`s racism. That`s actively being a racist.

We got him for what he said. But what he has done and what his wife was complicit in makes them monsters. Everyone in this thing is ugly and mean.

PINSKY: Jillian?

BARBERIE: I want to mention on a radio show yesterday, we had a lawyer call in and she represented someone years ago and it was a case against the wife as well. They said, you know, this was a young, black player. His mother, he was very young at the time. They had issues with the way the woman spoke to him, Sterling, of course. We`re talking about Shelley Sterling.

And so, it`s no surprise to me that, of course, they`re married to each other and she`s very privy, what Vanessa said. He`s telling his mistress these things. Of course, his wife knows exactly what he`s all about.

PINSKY: I`ve got Ms. Ali back and the behavior bureau. We`re going to talk about V. says she wants to be president.

Back after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: V. is strong. V. is strong, and she`s resilient, and she`s resourceful.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: One day, I will become president of the United States of America and I will change the legislation and laws.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Do you know she was recording these phone calls and did she ever tell you why she was doing it?

UNIDENTIIFED FEMALE: V. has not explained to me why she does this. I have been told that she is his archivist.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

PINSKY: I`ll be talking to the woman you saw there just in a few minutes.

First, I`m back with Sam. And I`m going to bring in our behavior bureau, which is Leeann Tweeden, social commentator, host of "Tomboys" podcast on Blog Talk Radio, Drea Letamendi, clinical psychologist from underthemaskonline.com, Erica America, Z100 Radio personality and psychotherapist. And on the phone, Shahrazad Ali, social commentator, author of "The Blackman`s Guide to Understanding the Blackwoman".

And if you`d like to join our conversation, tweet us right now @DrDrewHLN, #behaviorbureau.

Leeann, through her lawyer, V. Stiviano said she was not his mistress. All right? Got that straight, Leeann? She is not a mistress.

LEEANN TWEEDEN, SOCIAL COMMENTATOR: Yes. OK. Right.

Now, "Daily Mail" online today from England said they have some information she was also Dr. Jerry Bus` friend. We all know how that goes. Do some things for him, he gives you lots of gifts. I`m sorry, this girl is sitting courtside next to him in Louis Vuittons and the Birkin bag. That`s $20,000. And she`s his archivist and she`s just his friend?

I mean, it`s really, really hard to believe.

PINSKY: Erica, what do you consider if it`s not a mistress?

ERICA AMERICA, Z100 RADIO: Well --

PINSKY: And it is an archivist?

AMERICA: I want to know what the nature of the relationship is. If it isn`t a mistress, what is she getting out of this? Is she someone that wants to be in entertainment? From what it looks like, she`s really enjoying her 15 minutes of fame.

I mean, we all need to commend her for running for president of the United States. I want to say, can I be your vice president?

(CROSSTALK)

PINSKY: That`s the way to do it. I don`t think the president changes laws. I believe it`s the legislature. Maybe she should run for senator.

AMERICA: So, she`s liking this, getting something out of this. She obviously received all of these, you know, $1.8 million condo, the bag. So, what was she doing for this man that she was so --

PINSKY: I just read a script. I just read a deposition where we heard what she was doing for this man. I don`t know what you were doing, Erica, but I was floored by his frankness.

SCHACHER: He has a history here. He`s known to shower women with gifts in exchange for sex. So, come on.

PINSKY: So, so my question, Sam, I`m going to ask it of Ms. Ali. I`ll ask Ms. Ali.

Ms. Ali, is this -- I don`t know how to frame this question. Is this really a story of a guy misbehaving with women and his marriage and, you know, he`s acting out in inappropriate ways? Wait, listen, hang on. And he happens to be quite a racist and that has sort of emerged within the context of this other chaos. Is that what we`re seeing here?

SHAHRAZAD ALI, SOCIAL COMMENTATOR (via telephone): No. This is regular. You know, she did -- she used the American way. She pulled herself up by Sterling`s bootstraps.

SCHACHER: Exactly.

ALI: You know?

And the other thing, let me tell you, a recent Pew report just released this month gave out the information to the Urban League that segregation and housing in America is the same as it was in 1940. So, Sterling wasn`t doing nothing no different than the other white people who rent property and real estate to people of color. It`s no different, since 1940. So they`re not the only ones doing that.

The other thing is this girlfriend, she had heard him talk like that before. She hadn`t been with him that long. That`s really his rap. She`s heard him talk racist talk before and it was OK with her just like with the wife. They agreed. Because of the pay up, what they were getting.

It was only until she decided to set him up and do him in. And he`s not too old for her. You all never talk about Larry King and Hugh Hefner. Look how old they are and how long their women are.

PINSKY: Yes, but they marry their -- they do it the old fashion way.

ALI: We don`t know how long they were together or who they had on the side. All of this is really a story of the trials and tribulations of the other women.

PINSKY: That`s what I`m saying, Ms. Ali. You ended up where I started then this horrible racism emerged in the concept. You get what I`m getting at, Drea?

ANDREA LETAMENDI, UNDERTHEMASKONLINE.COM: Yes, you know, actually, I dislike the idea we`re calling this woman crazy. It`s a label that actually we don`t --

PINSKY: I didn`t call her crazy. We`re not calling her crazy.

TWEEDEN: I didn`t say crazy.

LETAMENDI: I think it`s a label people are throwing around, I want to say.

PINSKY: Oh, n.

SCHACHER: On social media. I`ve seen that. You`re right. I`ve seen that.

LETAMENDI: You know, again, I want to be really clear this woman has been disenfranchised and overlooked. She`s experienced potential exploitation as a child. And Dr. Drew, you know there are longstanding consequences of child abuse and neglect. And so, when we see her choose the partners she`s choosing, it shouldn`t surprise us that she`s being exploited.

TWEEDEN: Come on, Drea, let`s face it. This girl likes that lifestyle. She`s 31 years old. She`s not a child anymore.

She chooses to be with the crusty old man like Jillian said. That`s her choice and that`s OK. Adultery, whatever. They`re making choices to be with each other. He`s getting something out of it and so is she.

PINSKY: She`s saying the reason she`s motivated in this direction is to be exploited as she had been, I guess, as a child. Is that correct, Drea?

LETAMENDI: Absolutely. What I`m saying is because of her experiences growing up, being exploited potentially as a child, it`s going to be difficult for her to develop and build trusting relationships as an adult. And so, again --

TWEEDEN: We do that here on Dr. Drew a lot that we always try to say whatever happens to somebody in childhood always goes to adulthood. Not everyone that was potentially exploited, we don`t really know her history, always goes down a bad path. That`s not true.

PINSKY: It`s not true. It`s not true. But when it does, you often find this, that`s why we tend to go that way.

Ms. Ali, please?

ALI: The other thing is Sterling is not hypersexual. He`s probably grinning from ear to ear to hear you say that about somebody in their 80s. He`s not hypersexual.

SCHACHERH: According to that transcript, he seems to be.

PINSKY: Seems to be sexually preoccupied.

ALI: Those are stories men make up when they get old.

TWEEDEN: If you notice, they`re doing things to him. He`s not doing anything.

PINSKY: He`s responding to these things.

SCHACHER: He`s buying them gifts, Leeann.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It`s called Viagra.

PINSKY: Erica, last comment.

AMERICA: I just wanted to say, yes, the fact that she was OK with this racism that could be directed to her as well, there`s some self-hatred there looking at her background. I agree with what she was just saying.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And the cosmetic surgery.

AMERICA: It`s good not to throw people under the bus 100 percent here. Donald Sterling is the one we should be focusing on here, but she`s running around on roller skates with a colored mask. It`s kind of hard to ignore.

TWEEDEN: Her friends acknowledge she loves the fame. That`s what she came to L.A. for, to become famous.

PINSKY: Leeann will have none of it. Anybody who`s a trauma survivor, whatever they do --

TWEEDEN: Everybody has got issues. I mean, I didn`t have a great childhood, either. But you have to make a choice.

PINSKY: All right. Next up, a woman who knows V. Stiviano is here to talk to us. And she says that V. -- I`m going to ask the question. Did she want to marry Donald Sterling and did she leak these tapes?

Back after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

REPORTER: Hey, V., you have to get smaller bodyguards, man. My camera can`t reach around this guy.

STIVIANO: Working long guys?

REPORTER: Yes, we have to.

STIVIANO: Yes.

REPORTER: Right now, you`re bigger than Angelina Jolie.

STIVIANO: Just today, just today guys. One day I will become president of the United States of America.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

PINSKY: Only in America, Sam.

Back, Sam Schacher in the studio with me. Only in America can you come out with a --

SCHACHER: From a club, Dr. Drew. Did you see her posse dressed, with black sunglasses and hats that screamed V. Stiviano on their hat.

PINSKY: Now for president.

SCHACHER: Right, maybe, possibly. They were campaigning.

PINSKY: Of course, that was V. Stiviano, she insists through her attorney who we heard yesterday from Anahita, that attorney was negotiating for money to prevent her from releasing 100 hours more of tape.

SCHACHER: Right.

PINSKY: What do you think?

Through this attorney, she says Donald Sterling is not -- she`s not Donald Sterling`s mistress, but she has been making some very interesting comments.

Back with us, Erica, Segun, also joining is Karrine Steffans, who knows V. Stiviano personally.

Karin, does this seem strange? Is she freaking out over this media focus on her? Is this sort of consistent for how you know her how to be?

KARRINE STEFFANS, SAYS SHE KNOWS V. STIVIANO: Are you referencing the comment to be president?

PINSKY: The president, wearing goofy clothes. Just there`s some other stuff, too, isn`t there, Sam? Doesn`t she have other comments?

SCHACHER: It`s the Instagram comments that really to me, they started to unfold before the scandal. And the comments were things, statements like skeletons in the closet are about to come out. Then it was the hashtags that were alarming, #randomhouse, #newyorktimes, #latimes.

PINSKY: That`s before it broke.

SCHACHER: Right before it broke.

PINSKY: So, that stuff. We`re just wondering what`s that -- any idea?

STEFFANS: I`ll say this. Is it strange for V. to dress up in strange clothing? Not at all. This show she is. If you look through her Instagram, you`ll see her wearing wings and things like that. That`s how she is.

V. started wearing the visor the day before the story broke. Is she doing that on purpose? Of course she is. It`s dramatic, awesome and it makes you guys look at her, ask questions, why is she wearing that which everyone wants people to ask in situations like this.

And as far as the hashtags and all those things, I didn`t think it was a good idea to do that. To maybe forewarn about a book that may be coming out. I didn`t think it was a great idea to do that.

PINSKY: Is there a book coming out?

STEFFANS: V. is always writing. She`s mentioned to me she is writing a book. Is that book about this in particular? She has told me no.

PINSKY: Who does she say leaked the tape if she says she didn`t do it?

STEFFANS: She says she knows who did it and that was it was not her.

PINSKY: OK.

Erica, she -- what is your take, Erica? I mean, she seems to like the attention, Karrine is saying.

AMERICA: Yes. My question is, you know, before she was with Donald, what is her personality like? What are her aspirations? Did she want to be an actress? Did she want to be the president? Was she just joking around? Is that a wacky side of her?

Or does she really think she has a chance to be the president, which seems a little delusional, you know? What does she like?

STEFFANS: When I spoke to V. yesterday at her home, she did mention to me she would one day want to be mayor and the president of the United States. I smiled and nodded my head politely. And that`s something V. would say.

I`m not a doctor. I can`t say whether she`s delusional or not. That would have to be up to Drew maybe.

PINSKY: OK. I don`t have enough evidence yet, but I don`t know, it`s hard to know what`s for the cameras and what`s posturing and what`s just freaking out over being in an extraordinary situation all of a sudden.

Segun, you made some interesting -- showed interesting body language there when Karrine was talking. What`s that all about?

ODUOLOWU: Yes. Well, here`s the thing. To quote Chris Rock, she may not be a whore, but she`s wearing a whore`s clothes. Like I have basketball sources, too.

SCHACHER: I don`t like slut shaming.

ODUOLOWU: I know she slept with Donald Sterling. To say she`s not his mistress is an outright lie.

Second thing, Karrine, you wrote a book on how to do what she`s doing. Be a vixen.

PINSKY: Let`s have Karrine respond to that. Hang on.

STEFFANS: Hold on a second. Hold on a second. Have you read any of my books?

ODUOLOWU: Yes, I have. She`s your protege.

STEFFANS: So, listen, when you read my book, did you see I was abused as a child, raped at 13?

ODUOLOWU: Hold on a second.

(CROSSTALK)

STEFFANS: Don`t hold on a second me. You made your point.

ODUOLOWU: You have a nickname for being called --

(CROSSTALK)

PINSKY: Segun.

STEFFANS: Because I`m good at everything I do. I`m super at everything I do. Don`t you ever forget it.

But the point here is this. Don`t get me started. I wrote a biography about my life, about my journey, includes the mistakes I made with men, the mistakes I made because of my past and the things my mother taught me that were rancid, and that I had no guidance. And V. Stiviano looks at me crying saying, I`m crying, she says, Karrine, I am so unhappy, I`m miserable, and I don`t have any guidance. That`s what she said to me.

Don`t come to me because I have not --

(CROSSTALK)

PINSKY: Hang on, Segun, stop.

STEFFANS: Don`t. Don`t do it.

I`ll get off this camera and come over there.

PINSKY: Hang on, Karrine, stay with me, will you? Stay here.

Now, in the last block you had lee an being dismissed of people who have had trauma histories like you`re describing. How do you get people to understand those trauma histories create these bad choices and behaviors? How do we help the world understand that?

STEFFANS: I`ll say this, you do better when you know better. And when you come from a place where no one`s teaching you the right things to do, from what I understand, what I`ve been told, V.`s mother has over 10 children by different women -- different men, I mean.

PINSKY: Wow.

STEFFANS: I don`t know, everything is convoluted in her life, and I see a woman who`s really honestly, as she said, hurting and has no guidance. Luckily, I have had psychotherapy for over ten years, had a life coach for over 13 years. It took me a lot of years to get over my childhood trauma, being raped, kidnapped and held at gunpoint at 13 years old and never being able to make my life right until I got guidance.

PINSKY: I am so pleased you brought this up. I appreciate it. I`m glad we have the time to let you flush this out and really tell the full ark of how this -- people will still judge.

Segun is going to be hard to convince, Leeann is going to be hard to convince.

Ms. Ali, does this change your attitude in any way?

ALI: About what?

PINSKY: About V. and about these people -- maybe you have a way of interpreting this I wouldn`t have thought of.

ALI: I think that her lifestyle of the rich and famous is getting ready to end. She`s claiming now she was not his mistress because the wife is coming for her.

See, when a black woman finds out her man got another woman, we go beat the woman up. But when a white woman finds out her man got another woman, she goes to the woman and leave her destitute and humiliated. That`s a better way to handle it.

PINSKY: OK. I think I need to get some security, speaking of a woman feeling a little aggressive, as Segun may be in trouble.

STEFFANS: Don`t come for me, Segun. You and your bow tie, don`t come for me.

PINSKY: Hold on, Segun, go ahead. Kindly, respectfully, Segun.

ODUOLOWU: You can keep it real or keep it right. I don`t think you were doing either of these.

PINSKY: Erica?

STEFFANS: Good thing what you think doesn`t matter to me.

AMERICA: Since you`ve been through this experience, and I am grateful that you`re being honest and stuff, do you talk to V. about your experience and how she can kind of move in way toward health and --

PINSKY: Erica, I`m going to have you continue that conversation with Karrine -- I guess you`re in New York. We`ll hook you guys up because I`ve got to go to break right now. Thank you, panel.

Next up, I have teacher who takes on the cops after she`s busted driving drunk with drugs, and we have the video after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO TAPE)

AMY DANIELS: What are you guys doing? I still have to go to work in the morning.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 1: It all happened around 1:30 Monday morning. A fifth grade teacher was driving on Tenth Street.

DANIELS: I`m in the back of a cop car.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 1: Police say they pulled her over and noticed a strong smell of alcohol.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 2: You`re a really (BLEEP). (BLEEP) job.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 1: They asked her to submit field sobriety test but she refused and demanded her attorney.

DANIELS: My phone`s dead. I can`t even call Shelley. I can`t call Michelle. And my phone is dead, because you took it.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 2: Your phone`s in your purse, but on the plus side.

DANIELS: But it`s dead.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 2: On the plus side.

DANIELS: It doesn`t matter, dork.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE 1: Police say they found nearly 9 grams of cocaine in Daniels` purse and locked her up for the night.

DANIELS: I`m probably going to be fired. Good job. Thanks. Thanks.

(BEGIN VIDEO TAPE)

DR. DREW PINSKY, DR. DREW ON CALL HOST: Back with Samantha Schacher and that woman, we were just watching is Amy Daniels. She`s a fifth grade teacher busted for DUI and possession of cocaine. Back with us, Segun, Vanessa, and Leeann. All right. Sam, you said you have a bunch of new information about this case. Is that true?

SAMANTHA SCHACHER: Listen, I was looking at the reaction on Twitter, Dr. Drew. A lot of people are -- they want to vilify this teacher and this teacher has been known to be a great teacher. She doesn`t have any priors and she is in treatment for drug and alcohol abuse. So.

PINSKY: She is in treatment.

SCHACHER: She is in treatment.

PINSKY: Since that event.

SCHACHER: Since that event. I don`t think people should take away her job. Everyone is saying make sure she gets fired. Make sure she gets fired.

PINSKY: Leeann has become.

(CROSSTALK)

LEEANN TWEEDEN: Let her get clean first.

PINSKY: Vanessa, you are actually laughing. Why are you laughing, Vanessa?

TWEEDEN: Come on, she can get clean and go get another job. She does not need to be a fifth grade teacher to kids, just like the other local teacher that was lap dancing her student.

(CROSSTALK)

SCHACHER: She`s suffering from an addiction, Leeann.

TWEEDEN: Wait. It doesn`t have to be prior. Don`t be around children. Good- bye.

SCHACHER: OK. Well, she doesn`t have any priors here. She`s getting treatment. If she comes out of treatment and if she`s clean, why can`t she have her job back?

PINSKY: Let`s hear from Vanessa. I know how Leeann feels, because she`s along busting jobs all over the place.

VANESSA BARNETT: Yeah. Look, I don`t think this is a laughing matter, and I`m going to be a devil`s advocate here. She is devoted to a fault. Throughout this whole thing, she`s wasted out of her mind. But the only two things she cares about is her job and a down comforter in the jail cell and her phone.

TWEEDEN: And her phone.

BARNETT: And her phone, yes. So, I don`t know, I never say this, but maybe actually if she gets the treatment she needs, because she`s so desperate for her job, as long as she`s not selling coke to my kid.

PINSKY: Right.

BARNETT: Then maybe we let her back in.

PINSKY: Speaking of that phone, joining us by phone, ourselves, I have Michelle Hill. She is the Shelley or Michelle that you heard Amy asking for. She`s attorney for Amy Daniels. Michelle, in the dash cam video she calls out for you repeatedly. I guess you`re involved with her life and have been defending her. Is she getting help?

MICHELLE HILL: Good evening, Dr. Drew. Yes. Actually, she`s in new treatment currently. And just so that, you know, listening through her requesting me, Naples is a pretty small community. So, I went to Naples high school and so did Amy. So, that`s where she knew my name from and referenced me within the video. So, yes, she`s currently in treatment.

PINSKY: Good.

HILL: And she`s working toward recovery.

PINSKY: Good.

HILL: And actually, you know, it`s correct, this is a first offense. There`s nothing that required her to be there. Nothing, nobody made her go. This is something that she`s striving for on her own.

PINSKY: Michelle, is the school being cooperative? Are they looking at her as a person with an illness as a treatment, did they allow her to get that treatment?

HILL: You know, it`s pretty remarkable because the (Inaudible) public school has not -- they`ve let her go on administrative leave.

PINSKY: They`ve been supportive.

HILL: Because she`s a good teacher.

PINSKY: OK. Hang on, Michelle. Segun is shaking his head no, though.

SEGUN ODUOLOWU: Look, Dr. Drew, I said it once. I said it a thousand times. When you`re an educator and when you work with children, you have to hold yourself to a higher standard. The only thing you have is your credibility.

PINSKY: I hope you never get a medical problem when you`re teaching.

ODUOLOWU: No. Once your credibility is shot, and the tape is damning. I`m not saying that she can`t come back and be a productive member of society. But as a teacher to work with kids, her credibility is shot.

PINSKY: Let`s get her for her wrap. Let`s get last word, Michelle, what would she say to someone who`s criticizing her in that way?

HILL: Well, you know, quite honestly, first of all, she`s teaching kindergarten. I mean, or elementary school kids, but let me just stop with this, is that I represent probably 30 educators, whether they`re from Clark county or Massachusetts or California. And guess what? They all got to keep their jobs. And nobody took their certificate away.

PINSKY: It`s if, however, though, I will say if she relapses, Segun, Leeann, I`ll go back into your camp.

TWEEDEN: Her comeback could be her lesson plan. We need reform that school system. Too many teachers.

(CROSSTALK)

PINSKY: Got to go. Thank you, Michelle, for joining us. Next up, a baby is taken from his adoptive parents, dies while in the care of his biological teen dad. Back after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Rachel and Heidi McFarland knew the moment Gabriel King McFarland graced them with their first smile. He was a perfect fit.

RACHEL MCFARLAND: It`s like he knew instantly, hey, you`re my mama.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: But this family fairytale took a dark turn. Gabriel`s 16-year-old birth mother changed her mind. Tuesday Gabriel was found in his glider chair unresponsive inside his birth mother`s south side apartment.

(BEGIN AUDIO CLLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Hello?

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE 2: 911.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Somebody left my friend`s baby that they were baby sitting by themselves and the baby`s blue.

(END AUDIO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: His father, 17-year-old Drew Weehler-Smith faces charges of neglect.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

PINSKY: Back with Sam and this is our most tweeted story of the day. An autopsy has determined the baby Gabriel suffered abusive head trauma. His 17-year-old father has been charged with first-degree murder. He`ll be tried as an adult. I`m back with Jillian, Vanessa, Erica. They all returned. Jillian, what do you say? You had been adopted. And this story must run deep for you.

JILLIAN BARBERIE, MID-DAY LA CO-HOST: Oh, my goodness. It`s heartbreaking in every respect. Obviously, it should have gone to the two women. They reluctantly handed the baby over. They knew it was not gonna be a great situation. It`s an example of blood is not always the best course. It`s just a fact. You can`t.

PINSKY: Hold on, Jillian, I`m gonna stop you. Vanessa is freaking out. Vanessa, why? Why not?

BARNETT: To just start off a sentence saying obviously these two people should have had the child over the child`s birth mother.

BARBERIE: The baby`s dead, Vanessa.

BARNETT: The mother didn`t kill this baby. And that`s what upsets me.

BARBERIE: The Father did.

BARNETT: The simple fact that this young girl is 16 years old, everyone`s acting like the audacity for her to want her own child back. If you are a mother, you understand the love you have for your child and she should want her child back. The baby`s father made that mistake and killed that child. That mother was not even there. The father is wrong. The father is clearly wrong.

PINSKY: Vanessa, Vanessa, you seem invested in this.

BARNETT: I am. Because my husband`s mother had him as 15 years old. And everyone outside looking and would`ve been like she should have kept him.

PINSKY: All right. OK. I`m gonna defend you. And Jillian respond to. Then Erica you`re after that. But, Jillian, it turns out if you look at the outcomes for teen moms they`re better than you expect. All right, there`s disasters. There`s disasters and it`s risky, let`s face it. But it`s somewhat better than expected. You as an adoptive person, you feel good about your adopted family. You feel like you`re grateful for your biological.

BARBERIE: I feel great, of course, I`m grateful to the birth family that gave me up that ended up getting married and having two daughters that I`ve had a wonderful reunion with. I`m grateful to the people who raised me who are amazing parents, Jim and Merial. But to Vanessa to say that this was a mistake, I mean, really? It`s a dead baby.

PINSKY: Hold on, Erica. Erica, settle the score here.

AMERICA: My question is, why wasn`t there or was there a screening after they were gonna get -- before they gave it over to the birth mother checking out the father, the home that it was going to be in. a CPS. Isn`t it a high risk between, being teen parents, and being someone who gave it up and then decided that they wanted the baby back?

PINSKY: Hold it. Hold it.

AMERICA: So, there was a systematic.

PINSKY: Yep, Sam? Erica`s right.

SCHACHER: Here`s the thing. That`s the irony, Dr. Drew. Is this couple -- does loving adoptive couple, they were scrutinized, they were criticized, they were analyze partly because of their lesbian lifestyle. But then, when it was time to go back to the birth mother, why can`t the birth parents also be scrutinized and analyzed?

PINSKY: OK. Jillian, Jillian say, yes?

BARBERIE: My parents had to go through six months of this, with both the adoption agency and the catholic children`s society popping in on my parents.

PINSKY: I would love.

SCHACHER: You get pregnant and have a baby, that is what happens.

PINSKY: I`d love to keep this going. But we are really out of time. Thank you, panel. Next, Tori and Dean. Dean now tells us about something we call suicidal ideation. Back after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

PINSKY: I`m here with Sam and we`re talking now about Tori Spelling who`s letting the whole world watch as she goes through and works through, I guess, the fallout of her husband, Dean`s, affair. The latest episode of True Tori, Dean really shocks Tori and the therapist when he talks at the fact he was having overt suicidal thoughts. Take a look.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DEAN: I have a brain that wants to kill me. We`re sitting here in the room where I had my breakdown. And I`ve been looking at that crack in the window and I remember looking at that crack that day and while we were waiting for the EMT`s, I was thinking, I`ve got a window of opportunity here, no pun intended, to kick that out because it`s already broken, and just dive out it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

PINSKY: Leeann, Erica, are back. And let`s welcome to the program Marc Summers, he is the host of Rewrapped, Monday nights 8:00 p.m. on the Food Network. Mark, you`ve got some strong feelings on these reality shows.

MARC SUMMERS, HOST OF REWRAPPED: I do. I`m an exec producer of a show called Restaurant Impossible on Food Network. I would say that our show and perhaps Celebrity Rehab may be the only two real reality shows. Here`s the phrase to remember. Let`s stop making stupid people rich. Why these people are on TV is beyond my understanding. And I don`t understand why people like train wreck television. And that`s what we have going on here. Tell this girl if she didn`t get the inheritance, go get a job and enough of this stuff.

TWEEDEN: Thank you, Mark. Thank you.

PINSKY: So, Leeann, you and Mark must have been separated at birth and he got a Y chromosome and then somehow.

TWEEDEN: I think so. Mark, Mark, you won`t believe this. Earlier this week, I`m like, why are they even on television? I mean, if those two people are seriously having issues and having problems and mentally having problems. Go get help, take yourself off television. And do this for the children. I don`t care about the pay check. People were like, what if they have a contract? I don`t give a crap about your contract. Give a crap about your life and your family.

(CROSSTALK)

SUMMERS: People want scripted reality.

PINSKY: Hold on, Mark. Finish your statement, Mark. Then Erica, finish.

AMERICA: I always have to take the emphatic point of view. Mark, I did think, start off this week earlier when we were talking about it thinking that it might be false. But the more I`m watching this and seeing him express his addiction, addictive behavior, and suicideality. I`m believing this a little bit more. So, I think we do need to have empathy. You might be -- I understand in what way what you`re saying that you don`t think they should be doing it on TV at all. But I think that there`s a real -- there`s two hurting people here and we need to be sensitive about that.

PINSKY: What, Mark is saying take that off television and don`t watch it. Is that right, Mark?

SUMMERS: That`s exactly right. I don`t know why people insist on watching this crap. And I guess as long as people watch it, it will be on the air. But these people need help. Dr. Drew, you know that better than anybody. To do this on national television serves no purpose. Go get help, go get a job. And get out of our lives.

SCHACHER: Right. No, I agree. Listen, I do have a lot of empathy for them. I do. And I`ve been highly critical of them in the past, I`ve been very highly critical about what their motivations are, why they`re doing this. And I think it`s evident. It`s for fame and it`s attention and money. But my one concern here is the children. And I hope that the children are also getting help. I hope they`re going to Allenton. Because, Dr. Drew, how is this impacting them?

PINSKY: It`s of course, has a profound impact. I mean, all the kids that are concern with this it that -- when I deal with children of parents with addiction, the main thing they`re concerned with, the kids, is that that parent gets well. That`s all the kids really -- they don`t care how long it takes, they don`t care where they go or if they don`t see them. They just care their parent gets well. And I`m just sitting here thinking I don`t really care, either, about the TV show. I just care this guy, if indeed this is not a sham that he just gets well.

SCHACHER: He definitely looks like.

PINSKY: Look, the TV show will end. He`ll need a lot more treatment. And let`s hope to god he gets it. We`re going to talk more True Tori and Dean in just a second. And a reminder, you can find us any time on Instagram @DrDrewHLN. Back after this.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

PINSKY: Back with Sam. And we have breaking news. The Toronto star and CBC news, is that correct everybody? CBC news? OK. Reporting that Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, the man who you`ve been calling and is known as crack mayor, is taking time off to take a break to get treatment, get help. Which I could not be more relieved to see. Because it means, half measures avail, nothing. It`s time for him to do it. I think as you know, he`s had a number of episodes in which his behavior was interesting. Questionable. He was mocked. Yet he remained good natured and remained fairly an effective competent politician who was well loved. But he admitted to smoking crack, he`s appeared to be drunk in public on occasion. And now thank god he`s gonna get treatment. My fear, Sam, is that he`s gonna come back and be so full of recovery that he`s gonna, I don`t know -- this is -- we`ll see how it goes. At least this is his first brush with it. I hope to heck he does well. And certainly it will be an improvement. That`s for sure. And if he really lashes on to it, God bless him.

SCHACHER: Yep.

PINSKY: All right. Let`s go now to Leeann, Erica, and Marc Summers back, Marc of course, the host of Rewrapped on the Food Network. What did you guys ask me to do, to talk to Erica about this? Erica, what are your thoughts on Rob Ford?

AMERCA: Sure. Oh, on Rob Ford? Well first, I was really, really nervous you were gonna say that he had passed away. So, I`m very happy he`s getting help.

PINSKY: That`s right.

AMERICA: When you started to hear that. So -- and we know what addiction these things can go either way. So, I think that`s absolutely great news. But are we still talking about Tori and Dean?

PINSKY: Yes, go ahead. Go ahead. Let`s switch back over. The story about, wait, wait ,wait But Tori -- let me set up. It`s Tori Spelling`s reality show. Her husband, Dean, revealed that he was suicidal during some sort of a crisis session where he thought of jumping out a window. But go ahead, Erica.

AMERICA: Yeah, well, I`m glad that according to reports they did stop down the shooting to give him a real psychological evaluation and he was deemed okay to come back. Because if you remember on the Real House Wives of Beverly Hills there was a suicide on a show as part of a cast member. So, this is serious. And we can be like, oh, this is all fake, this is all fake, but these are real people. Do I think that these should be living their life in the recovery necessarily on this type of scripted or nonscripted reality show? Not really. But I think that he needs to really hit rock bottom which I think he might have and do a real 12-step program. And you know.

PINSKY: I hope so.

AMERICA: I think he has chance to be back.

PINSKY: Mark, Erica? Marc, let me play devil`s advocate for a second. He seems like a guy that is not easy to motivate. Just kind of look at this little bit of the show that I`ve seen.

SUMMERS: Right.

PINSKY: What if being held accountable in front of god and everybody and seeing it back on television helped him break through and get motivated? And then after everything`s over, he`ll go continue his treatment, hopefully?

SUMMERS: No, once again, everybody, Instagram, Facebook, and Tweet Tonight, stop making stupid people rich. Get these people off television. Stop watching this crap. And let`s go back to some really good, you know, television. As opposed to this stuff.

SCHACHER: One of our tweets, Dr. Drew.

PINSKY: I`d like to read the tweet in a second. But I`ve never seen Leeann happier on this program.

TWEEDEN: I`m so excited that somebody thinks like I do. You know, look, I am compassionate. I hope he gets help. He does not look well, Dr. Drew. We talked about this last week.

PINSKY: That`s right.

TWEEDEN: I mean, he looks like the signs of an alcoholic. He`s bloated, he`s red, he`s got the bulbous nose, you know. And I feel bad for both of them and I think they do have some mental issues. And I think he is dealing with some sort of things that are probably coming to the forefront. I want them to get help. I just don`t want to see it on TV. I think it`s stupid.

PINSKY: And here now`s another version of what you`re talking about, guys. You got a tweet. Let`s hear it.

SCHACHER: I do. OK. So, to Mark`s point. And by the way, I`d rather watch Double Dare than Tori and Dean. Can we bring Double Dare back, please? OK. So, the tweet is from Dan, did Dean have suicidal thoughts when he cheated on his prior wife with Tori or is it now that he may lose his meal ticket?

PINSKY: Marc, I know Leeann will agree with that. But, Marc, what do you say?

SUMMERS: Yeah, I would agree. This whole thing is ridiculous. This girl is still suffering from the fact she didn`t get any of the inheritance from a very wealthy father. And maybe she feels the only way she can make a living is by doing stupid reality television. Do me a favor, go get a job.

PINSKY: Erica, give me 30 seconds of emphatic.

AMERICA: I feel bad listening to this. I see -- And I`m emphatic to everyone. So, to even you, Mark. I understand where you`re coming from. And I do think her childhood, and the way she was raised, you know, helped her get to where she is. But at the same time she is a human being like we all are. And when you see someone hurting, I don`t think we should be like, get them off TV, like they`re like a piece of garbage. They`re real people.

SUMMERS: That`s not the point. It`s not that they`re a piece of garbage. Why are they doing this on TV in the first place?

PINSKY: There that`s a question. We`ll have to leave it there. And they`re certainly are not coming off television. They`re gonna remain on television. And of course, even speaking of television, you can DVR us, and watch the show any time. Check our show on our Facebook, @DrDrewHLN. For more on Rob Ford. Forensic Files, there was a whole description I was going to give you about the Forensic Files but because of the breaking news, I`ll just say it begins right now.
