Police Hunt Disposable Phone in Exercise Mom Murder; Drive-Thru Photo of Missing 9-Year-Old Girl Emerges. Aired 8-9p ET

Aired May 11, 2016 - 20:00   ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

NANCY GRACE, HLN HOST: Breaking news tonight, is an arrest imminent in the murder of exercise mom stabbed dead inside a local church? And did Missy`s

killer video her murder? The mom of three at Creekside church 4:00 AM to teach aerobics, surveillance video catches the killer disguised in SWAT

gear. We reveal Missy dies from multiple puncture wounds to the head and chest.

We identify and profile nine individuals on the police target list, including Bevers`s family members, a married male fitness colleague, his

wife, another unnamed man, a male martial arts expert. Who are they? And what, if any, is their connection to murdered exercise mom.

Reports the male fitness colleague has his trash sifted through. Why? And that creepy message Missy gets just before she is murdered? Was that a

set-up to point police away from the real killer?

Bombshell tonight, startling conclusion. Does Missy`s family know who the killer is? And are police trying to track at this hour a disposable phone

used by the killer? This as we hone in on the gym Missy goes to every day for three years. Exactly what men worked out alongside her?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It was well known that Bevers taught an early morning fitness cramp at Creekside Church of Christ.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: The suspect broke into the church before Bevers arrived and roamed the church`s hallways, then assaulted her.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Who is this cloaked killer? And why Missy?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Everybody`s a suspect, OK? Everybody`s a suspect.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Tonight, TBI endangered child alert. A 9-year-old little girl`s creepy uncle tricks her elementary school, yanks her out of the classroom,

goes on the run, the uncle traveling tonight in a white Dodge Caravan, a dark stripe down the middle, store surveillance of the uncle buying camping

gear just before the kidnap. We obtain more surveillance video of the 9- year-old girl with the uncle hours after the kidnap, buying provisions.

Breaking tonight, a potential sighting of Carlie. Can we find Carlie before it`s too late?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We have credible information that Carlie Trent is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I`m worried, terrified.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We`re going to do whatever it takes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Carlie, I love you! (INAUDIBLE) Just come back. We miss you!

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Good evening. I`m Nancy Grace. I want to thank you for being with us.

Bombshell tonight, startling conclusion. Does Missy`s family know who the killer is? And are police trying at this hour to track a disposable phone

used by the killer? This as we hone in on that gym, the gym Missy Bevers goes to practically every day for three straight years. Exactly what men

worked out alongside her? And what behavioral evidence can we deduce from this gym?

Straight out to Lisa Pineiro, investigative reporter. Lisa, you`re joining me from Midlothian. What can you tell me about this gym Missy was so

devoted to?

LISA PINEIRO, INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER: Nancy, behind me is the gym that Missy Bevers worked out at nearly every day for three years before her

murder. And the gym manager tells us that two weeks prior to the murder, Missy really hadn`t been there at all, and she wasn`t acting like herself.

He says, in his opinion, she was targeted, which makes investigators ask the question, could Missy`s killer have been someone she met at this gym?

GRACE: I`m on it. I`m on it, Lisa Pineiro joining us from Midlothian. Justin Freiman, also on the story -- Justin, when you are trying to build a

case, you look at direct evidence, such as fingerprints, blood evidence, eyewitnesses. You also look at behavioral or circumstantial evidence.

Now, let me understand this, Justin. Missy goes to this gym practically every day for three straight years. But suddenly, she quits cold turkey

two weeks before she is murdered. Do I have my facts straight?

[20:05:10]JUSTIN FREIMAN, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: You do. And they also say she was acting a bit differently the weeks prior to her murder.

GRACE: You know, when you`re with somebody every day for three years, you get to know them. And she was extremely dedicated, right, Justin? I mean,

she didn`t go in and hop on the treadmill for 25 minutes and cut out. She did the weights. She talked to the owner. She became friends with the

owner. She was a fixture in this gym.

But with no explanation, she quits cold turkey. She acts very unusual. And then she`s murdered. What about it, Justin?

FREIMAN: That`s right. And she is dedicated to fitness, so it does seem odd that a gym that she`s going to so often, she just stopped going.

GRACE: Joining me right now is the owner of the gym. Mr. Garcia, what was your reaction when you learned she had been murdered?

MARC GARCIA, GYM MANAGER: Nancy, I was distraught. I mean, I immediately started crying. And my initial reaction was to think that it wasn`t true.

I started praying. I was praying to God that it was all just a horrible rumor. And I called Missy, I texted her, I Facebook messaged her. I

didn`t hear anything. And then the rumors just kept coming in, and then finally, someone says, yes, it was Missy and -- and I was just heartbroken.

GRACE: That is Carlos (sic) Garcia joining us.

Robyn Walensky, let me go to you on this, senior news anchor with The Blaze Network. Robyn, let`s analyze this. The cops are sifting through right

now, trying to track what we believe is a disposable cell phone that the killer may have been using.

But let`s look at this. This gym she went to religiously day and night every day, practically, for three straight years -- I mean, Robyn, it leads

one to speculate, was there something or someone at that gym? I`m not talking about the owner that has joined us and spoken very openly. I`m

talking about some other guy there, some gym rat there. She didn`t want to go there anymore. Something was making her uncomfortable. Something made

her not want to go back anymore. Then she`s dead.

It leads me to speculate and question, was there someone disturbing her through this gym, either somebody else that went there, somebody that was

following her, somebody that kept hitting on her, somebody that got too familiar with her?

Think about it, Robyn!

ROBYN WALENSKY, THE BLAZE NETWORK: Yes, Nancy, I go to a gym on a regular basis, and most people would describe me as outgoing at the gym and

speaking to others, and that`s how she was at the gym. And the manager has been saying and other people at the gym that the police have interviewed

have said that she was very reserved in the weeks leading up to her death.

GRACE: Now, when you look at behavioral evidence -- you know what? We`ve got two pros with us. Unleash the lawyers. Joining me, Marla Chicotsky

(ph), defense lawyer out of Ft. Lauderdale, also Robert Schalk, defense attorney out of New York.

OK, what about it, Schalk? Let`s analyze what we know.

ROBERT SCHALK, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: Yes, I mean, obviously, as you indicated, she has a regimen. Every single day, she`s going to this gym. There are

people she`s coming into contact regularly. The thing that they should be doing is reviewing video surveillance of the people who are always there

with her, going through the log books, the people who were always there with her.

And then when she -- the last day that she was there, who were the people that were there the next day? And start working backwards and interviewing

those people.

GRACE: You know what? That`s a good question. Hold on. Hold on. Lisa Pineiro, investigative reporter joining us there in Midlothian. Did you

notice if there is surveillance video? I mean, certainly, every gym I`ve ever been in has surveillance video. And isn`t this those one of those

gyms where you can go -- can you go any time of the day or night?

PINEIRO: I believe so, Nancy. And I didn`t notice any cameras on the outside of the building. But you know, just like you were saying before,

it would make total and complete sense for there to be video surveillance going on inside the gym. I`m sure that investigators...

GRACE: Well, hold on. I mean, we`re looking at it -- we`re looking at it right now, and it appears that there is surveillance on the outside. Not

only that, when you have one of these anytime gyms, that means you can go day or night, and you`re usually given access to go in or out with a key

card or a swab (ph).

Not only that, everyone, the focus turning on the anytime fitness gym, who may have gone there or not gone there -- and again, thank you, Mr. Garcia,

for weighing in on this.

But also tonight, does Missy`s family know who the killer is? Now, the reason we`re saying that, Robyn Walensky, is the husband -- let`s see what

the husband told "People" magazine. He says that he is privy to things nobody else is aware of and he is impressed with the work the police is

doing.

[20:10:06]Also, when you look at what the mother-in-law is saying, she`s really calling out the killer. When you look at her open letters, it`s

very familiar.

Do they know who the killer is? And like in the Mark Sievers case, where we`re waiting for an arrest in the murder of Teresa Sievers, finally,

months passed, and the husband is arrested. We`re not saying the husband in Bevers is responsible. We`re saying it takes time to put a case

together.

You know what? Pull that SOT back up, that sound from the mom, the full screen. Robyn, did you know where the mother-in-law is basically blaming

Camp Gladiator, saying, I guess it took so much of her life, and then it took her life, Robyn?

WALENSKY: Yes, I believe that the mother-in-law believes that there is an individual, possibly a man that she was away with in Austin -- that he may

somehow be involved in this and that she was being sucked into the, you know, gym routine and these conventions and such, and maybe perhaps that`s

what led to her death.

GRACE: Well, we`ve analyzed it backwards and forwards. You know, Lisa Pineiro, the mom-in-law give this statement -- let`s put it back up -- that

she was basically killed because of Camp Gladiator. "It took so much of her life, and then it took her life."

I mean, Lisa, is she suggesting that it was a co-worker at Camp Gladiator, that she had a stalker because of Camp Gladiator? Was it a class attendee

at Camp Gladiator? Did she meet someone and have a relationship because of Camp Gladiator that Robyn just pointed out, at this weekend event just

before she dies?

I mean, Lisa, weigh in on the mother-in-law`s statement. It`s basically calling out Camp Gladiator, someone she has met through Camp Gladiator.

They`re giving every indication they know who the killer is.

PINEIRO: Yes, she says she won`t even utter the name Camp Gladiator because it upsets her so much. And look, you know, what we know about

Missy at this point is her life was centered around fitness. Everything about her had something to do with fitness. So it makes sense that the

family is, you know, talking about that huge part of her life and how that part of her life is what ended up taking her from them.

GRACE: Another stunning development tonight, police now tracking what we believe to be a disposable phone. How can they do it? And a startling

discovery. The killer apparently had a headlamp, a lantern of sorts on the helmet he was wearing at the time of the murder. Here`s the husband.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: As far as communicating, prior to her accounts (ph), you know, I mean, she got there pretty early. And...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: So you hadn`t heard from her that morning.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: No.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: When -- did you guys speak the night before?

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: And did you...

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: (INAUDIBLE)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Every day for the last -- every day for the last 10 months, she`s made it a point to text me at work that she loves me, and,

Have a good day, honey.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

[20:17:30]UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: These are called in and out burpees (ph).

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Terri Missy Bevers`s family say she had a passion for fitness.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Was found dead inside the Creekside Church of Christ...

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: ... that the suspect believed to have murdered Terri Missy Beavers as she prepared to lead a class.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He was wearing police tactical gear.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: A helmet and gloves helped hide the intruder`s identity.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Tonight, we learn that police are trying to track, according to sources, a disposable phone. Why? Another thing about that -- to Ben

Levitan, telecommunications expert. We also know that, apparently, if you look at the video, the killer has some sort of a headlamp on the helmet

that they are wearing. Why?

Before I get into the headlamp, I want to talk to you about the issues of a disposable phone, Ben, because if they had all of the phone numbers, it

would be a matter of -- very simply of looking up who they`re registered to. But no, a disposable phone makes it much more difficult, right?

BEN LEVITAN, TELECOMMUNICATIONS EXPERT (via telephone): That`s right, Nancy. And you`re absolutely right. There`s actually nothing different

between what you would call a contract phone and a prepaid phone. It`s just the way that you pay for it.

Now, the prepaid phone can be bought anywhere, and you don`t have to necessarily give your name. But you do have to activate that phone with a

carrier, and you do have to put it on the network, so somebody knows where that phone is or has been, Nancy.

GRACE: Well, when you say "somebody knows," how do you go about tracking it, Ben Levitan? Because let`s just say the killer goes and gets a cell

phone, all right, a disposable cell phone. And police do the cell phone tower data dump. They see this number that keeps popping up at the

Midlothian church between 3:00 and 5:00 AM when Missy is murdered.

How do you track that -- I call it a 7-Eleven phone. You get it at a convenience store. You pay for it, it`s prepaid, you use it, you throw it

away.

What do they -- what do they -- how do they do it? How do they track that number to a specific phone, to what, the bar code on the phone, and then

they find the particular 7-Eleven? Can you tell when that phone was purchased? I mean, how do you do it, Ben?

LEVITAN: Nancy, you know that every phone number in the world is unique, and every cell phone also has a worldwide unique cell phone number on it.

[20:20:06]When you do the cell phone tower dump, not only do you get the phone numbers of the phones that were attached to that cell tower, you also

get the serial number. The serial number can be traced back directly to the store where it was sold.

GRACE: OK, let me understand, Ben. Hold on. I`m just a lawyer here. You`re saying that with a disposable phone, say, they get that phone number

-- because I`m screaming, Look, you`ve got the phone numbers. What else do you need? Make an arrest, for Pete`s sake.

But you`re saying they`ve got the phone number of this disposable phone. Then they must link it up to a serial number that every disposable phone

comes with. They can then tell what store it went to, and then track the sale of it? Can they track when it was sold?

LEVITAN: Absolutely, Nancy, because that phone was purchased and then activated at a 7-Eleven, or somewhere else. It had to be activated with a

carrier, right? So...

GRACE: Oh, I get it. I get it.

LEVITAN: So the carrier registered the phone. They know where and when that phone was activated. And most stores that sell disposable phones do

keep a video for 30 days of who bought that phone.

GRACE: OK, now, let me ask you one more thing. Ben, why would the -- why would police be honing in on a disposable phone tonight? What about this

cell phone tower dump? What about these nine numbers we`ve got? We know who those nine numbers go to. So why a disposable phone? How does it play

into the scenario?

LEVITAN: Well, Nancy, any time you want to do something nefarious, one of the best ways to communicate is to have a disposable phone. But the

problem is, we`ve got that telephone number. We don`t have the identity of the person who used that phone, but if that phone was used to call anybody,

now we`ve got threads to pull on.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

[20:26:16]UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: This surveillance video may hold the key to who killed 45-year-old Terri Leanne (ph) Bevers, a mom with three kids and

a husband.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Police say he broke into the church before Bevers arrived, then assaulted her and left her unresponsive.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Who is this cloaked killer, and why Missy? Many here are not convinced that Bevers interrupted a burglary. Many think she was

targeted.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Tonight, we believe police are on the hunt for bloody clothes. No, not Missy Bevers`s clothes, the clothes of the killer. Let me show you

why, best expressed by Dr. Henry Lee, the renowned blood expert. Watch. Do you see him spitting out a substance he then shows to the jury to

explain blood spatter?

Isn`t it true, Justin Freiman, that police brought in dogs to smell for, to scent for gunshot powder residue?

FREIMAN: That`s right, Nancy, they did.

GRACE: And they did that based, I believe -- to Dr. Devi, assistant professor at NYU School of Medicine -- based on her wounds. They`re

described as puncture wounds, which could very easily look like as .22- caliber bullet wound.

DR. DEVI NAMPIAPARAMPIL, NYU SCHOOL OF MEDICINE: So you know, you look at the shape of wound to try to tell what kind of weapon it was. I mean, you

might be able to tell the difference between something like scissors and a knife, but if you know you have a knife wound, you can really look at the

depth of the wound to tell at least how long the weapon had to be. I mean, it could always be longer...

GRACE: What we`re looking at is the claw end of a hammer which we believe may have been the weapon, leaving a, quote, "puncture wound," not a stab

wound, as was first thought, which could have originally been mistaken as a .22-caliber gunshot wound.

Aaron Brehove, I`m hearing in my ear, is just joining us, body language expert with the Trial Consulting Group. Aaron, thank you for being with

us. You have very carefully observed the husband. He is not a suspect. That`s the first person police look at. You have sifted through hours of

pictures and videos of him.

Common sense, Brehove, tells me that if you did a crime, you don`t saunter in and out of the police station when you feel like unloading, and this guy

is -- it`s like a resolving door. He`s at that police station all the time. He goes in and out and talks to police. You know, why would you do

that? That`s like a canary flying into the cat cage. No!

So that, common sense-wise, tells me this guy is not involved. So who is? But you`re the expert. What do you see that we don`t see?

AARON BREHOVE, BODY LANGUAGE EXPERT: So he`s having a little bit of a disconnect between what he actually believes to be a non-issue and what is

a non-issue. And there`s a little bit of a comfort he has with having conversation about everything and still saying it`s a non-issue and...

GRACE: So you`re saying that he seems comfortable talking about the facts. That leads me to another question about the husband and the father-in-law.

[20:30:00] Robyn Walensky, The Blaze Network, please just answer one way or the other. They`ve had time to nail down the husband`s alibi. So come out

with it. Or have they not been able to nail it down? And with the father- in-law -- he brings in a bloody shirt just about what, 96 hours after the murder. He says it`s dog blood. That`s easy to determine, dog blood,

human blood.

So what are they waiting for? Are they intentionally withholding evidence from the media?

WALENSKY: You know, I don`t think so Nancy. I think that they are waiting for the cell phone evidence to come in. And keep in mind, Nancy, that

Texas is a death penalty state, so they`re going to need their I`s dotted and their T`s crossed in this case.

(COMMERCIAL BREAK)

[20:35:00] GRACE: Tonight, TBI, endangered child alert. A nine-year-old little girl`s creepy uncle tricks her elementary school, yanks her out of

the classroom and goes on the run with the girl.

The uncle traveling tonight in a white Dodge Caravan with a dark stripe down the middle.

Store surveillance of the uncle buying camping gear just before the kidnap emerges. We obtain more surveillance video of the 9-year-old girl herself

with the uncle just after the kidnap, buying provisions.

Breaking now, a potential sighting of Carlie. Can we find Carlie before it`s too late?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: This is still extremely active. More than 1200 leads.

JAMES TRENT, FATHER OF MISSING GIRL: He told them he was picking her up because her dad, which is me, was in a serious car accident and was in bad

condition and that he needed to take her.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Our primary goal is finding this child.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: Tonight, we learn that the little girl and the school was told the father was in a horrific crash and the father could die.

He yanks the girl out, she has not been seen since but Michael Christian, what can you tell me about a sighting of a van that matches this

description found in the Shelby Forest?

MICHAEL CHRISTIAN, NANCY GRACE PRODUCER: That`s right, Nancy. That is near Memphis, that is hundreds of miles away from Rogersville, but apparently

there were reports that a van was found that matched the description of this missing van.

GRACE: When you say it matches, that means, in my mind, it`s not the van?

CHRISTIAN: That is what we have now been told, unfortunately, it is not the van.

GRACE: OK, All right, let`s talk about a potential Carlie sighting. First of all, to a photo of a little girl in a canoe with a man. Look at this

photo. Where was this taken, Michael Christian?

CHRISTIAN: In Missouri, Nancy, in Central Missouri. Someone saw this couple in this canoe or kayak and thought it looked like Carlie and her uncle and,

indeed, it does.

GRACE: And it`s not them, are you -- is that what you`re telling me?

CHRISTIAN: I`m afraid so. Investigators found this ...

(CROSSTALK)

GRACE: OK

CHRISTIAN: ... couple and confirmed it`s not them.

GRACE: So this is good and bad, Michael. People are looking for the girl and so for the sightings are not panning out, but people are trying.

Now, we`ve just gotten a call that there was a sighting in a Chinese restaurant, Michael. Where is that?

CHRISTIAN: That was in Idaho, Nancy, in Mountain Home, Idaho, Southern Idaho. An employee at a Chinese restaurant saw what she thought might be

the van, might be these two, this older uncle and a young daughter. Police checked that out because it was thought maybe to be a legitimate sighting.

GRACE: Joining me right now, Josh Devine, the PIO of the TBI, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. Josh, thank you so much for being with us. Is that

how Idaho got in the mix of the states that are looking for Carlie because of that potential sighting?

JOSH DEVINE, TENNESSEE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION PIO: Well, exactly right, Nancy. As you mentioned off the top, there have been more than 1200

sightings across the country of this girl, reported sightings, and right now law enforcement officers really across this country are trying to get

to the bottom of all of those attempts to find this girl as quickly as possible.

GRACE: Please help us find Carlie. Josh tells us, the PIO of the TBI, that this girl is in imminent danger of death. Why do you say that, Josh Devine?

DEVINE: Well, suffice it to say, Nancy, a couple of different reasons, items that he purchased at the Walmart store before taking her, there were

the groceries that he picked up once he had her and then we have been able to develop, during the course of our investigation, specific and credible

information that leads us to believe this girl is in imminent danger. We want her home now.

GRACE: Can you tell us, Josh, what is any of the information that is leading you to believe this girl is in danger of death?

DEVINE: Can`t get into specifics right now, Nancy, but we`ve been talking to people who know both Gary, who know Carlie, who`ve watched her grow up

in this small town but suffice it to say piece it all together and it does not look like a good situation for this girl. That`s why we have such an

urgency with our message tonight.

GRACE: I`m trying to interpret what you`re telling me, Josh, and figure out what it is you can`t say. Let`s see a list of what the uncle, Gary Simpson,

buys. A blanket, a man`s shirt, men`s basically camping pants, girl`s underwear, nail polish.

He`s out buying a 9-year-old little girl makeup and fingernail polish and bikini underwear? No. This is wrong. This is all wrong. Josh Devine joining

us from the TBI, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, clearly stating in a press conference this girl is in danger of death.

Marc Klaas, president and founder of KlaasKids Foundation, weigh in Marc.

[20:40:00] MARC KLAAS, FOUNDER KLAASKIDS FOUNDATION: Nancy, I think just like in the Hannah Anderson case, that this man has taken this little girl

to some remote location, as everybody is suggesting.

But I also think it`s probably a remote location that he is familiar with and knows his way around, and I believe that he`s not going to harm that

little girl until and unless he believes the authorities are closing in on him which is why it`s incumbent upon the authorities, and they know this,

to do this in as stealthily a manner as they possibly can so that they can get the lowdown on him before he even realizes they`re there. If that

happens they will be able to get her home alive.

GRACE: Josh Devine, Marc Klaas joining us. The PIO of the TBI, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says they have information, this little 9-year-old

girl, what is that, third grade, is in danger of death.

She has been yanked out by trickery, by her uncle. They are on the run. Please help us bring this girl home. What if it was your child? 1-800-824-

3463.

[20:45:00] (COMMERCIAL BREAK)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We have credible information that Carlie Trent is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death.

SHANNON TRENT, MOTHER OF MISSING GIRL: I`m worried. I`m Terrified.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We`re going to do whatever it takes.

TRENT: Carlie, I love you. If you see this just come back, we miss you.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: This 9-year-old girl, there`s no two ways about it, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, is in threat of death.

Her uncle tricked her elementary school to let her out with him. He`s spotted buying camping gear, buying provisions with the girl who trusts him

and they have not been seen since.

As we go to air tonight, we obtain an ATM photo of the perp. Let`s see the photo, please. He basically cleaned out his checking account. Hold that. I

want to look at him.

Look at this guy. This guy is wearing this when he leaves. He doesn`t have much with him. He`s wearing a baseball cap to cover up the fact we know

he`s bald.

This is the guy as you would see him in a white Dodge Conversion Van, 2002. I want to see his picture, please. It`s got a dark stripe down the middle

with light gold.

We are just obtaining this. This is what you would see, he`s sporting a mustache at the time he leaves. This is him getting money to spend cash

during the abduction with a 9-year-old little girl.

Ben Levitan, if he`s got a cell phone, according to his wife and others that call him, it rings but he doesn`t pick up, it doesn`t go straight to

voice mail, what does that mean?

BEN LEVITAN, TELECOMMUNICATIONS EXPERT: Nancy, that means the phone is probably on. So if you call someone and it goes straight to voice mail that

means the phone is off. If they`re ringing it, they can find that phone, Nancy.

But this guy went totally off the grid. He may be somewhere where he has no communication.

So that`s important, Nancy. What did this guy -- let`s look at what he researched before he left. Did he Google parks? Did he look up maps? This

guy has an electronic footprint, Nancy. Let`s find out what he knows.

GRACE: Josh Devine, PIO with the TBI. Josh, the guy has a cell phone. Do we know if it`s an iPhone? I mean, can you track what he`s been Googling, what

he`s been searching, where he could be heading? You know he did.

DEVINE: Sure Nancy. And this guy has a cell phone but it`s an old cell phone. It`s one of those old clam shell phones we had back when they first

came out. So, we have tried to use that but it has not provided any information about his potential whereabouts.

GRACE: Does Carlie have a cell phone?

DEVINE: Not that we know of.

GRACE: And with him not having it to go straight to voice mail, there is potentially a way to ping him as he`s traveling across the country. Another

issue.

Unleash the lawyers. Marla Chicotsky, Robert Shaw. Marla, if he would bring the girl in unharmed, don`t you think they`d cut him a break and give him a

lesser and a guilty plea? Marla?

MARLA CHICOTSKY, DEFENSE ATTORNEY: It`s definitely something the court, the judge and the prosecutor will take into consideration, that he willfully

came and brought the child back unharmed.

However, the fact that each day goes by further and further, that`s causing more and more issues for his defense.

GRACE: To Josh Devine, Josh, what about highway surveillance? Let`s see that map of the interstates and the major roadways around where she goes

missing.

Is there highway surveillance that could tell us in which direction they went?

DEVINE: Well, we actually are pursuing any and all avenues in terms of surveillance video. This is a really small town in rural East Tennessee so

we don`t have like major city intersection cameras that we can take a look at, but we are trying to pursue anything and everything that might give us

a view of the van or a view of these people.

GRACE: Dave Mack joining me, syndicated talk show host, joining us tonight on the story. Dave, what can you tell us?

[20:50:00] DAVE MACK, SYNDICATED TALK SHOW HOST: Nancy, what we`re looking at in reality is he did go off the grid. That phone could very easily just

be on vibrate and sitting underneath the house.

He had this so planned out. He went to Walmart. He took the specific items including a chair so she would be comfortable camping out. And when you

look around Rogersville, look at all site and (ph) areas it is one big camp ground. There`s no way you`re going to find them until they want to be

found.

They`re driving a van that gets 12 miles to the gallon. If they`re driving anywhere, they`re having to stop to get gas twice a day and that`s not

happening.

GRACE: So it leads me to think he may be parked somewhere not as far away as we think, "camping with the girl, Dave Mack?"

MACK: Absolutely. I think that`s how he sees it in his mind. I think that they`ve got a jackset (ph) situation where this guy is somehow thinking

that he is camping with her and maybe they`re playing and at some point in time, and this is where it gets ugly, when he gets his back against the

wall and realizes, there are going to be real consequences, then it turns ugly. That`s why I hope they can sneak up and catch him. But you know they

didn`t start getting the tips until you started covering this Monday night, Nancy.

GRACE: Thank you. Dr. Tiffany Sanders, Psychologist, joining mw out of Chicago tonight. We keep talking about when it hits him that we`re looking

for him.

I`m looking for you. I`m looking for Carlie. I`m going to find you. Josh Devine and the entire TBI and now the FBI are in on it. We`re on it and we

are after 57-year-old Gary Simpson. When that hits him, Dr. Sanders, what`s going to happen?

TIFFANY SANDERS, PSYCHOLOGIST: Well, Nancy, two things can happen. His fight system can be activated or his flight system can be activated. And if

his fight system is activated, that little girl is in danger because he feels that he is being threatened and so he`d want to do whatever he can to

protect himself or take anybody else out.

If his flight system is activated, that he`s is going to go on the run even more and keep her away from her family even longer.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

DEVINE: We have credible information that Carlie Trent is in imminent danger of serious bodily harm or death. That is why we issued an Amber

alert. We do so judiciously for this very reason. They are reserved for the most serious of cases and you had better believe this is one of them.

I cannot say that perhaps more strongly. We need the public to be on the lookout. We need the public to trust us. When we say this child is in

danger, we absolutely mean it. We are not joking around with this. It is too serious. This is a 9-year-old girl on the line. And you had better

believe ...

(END VIDEO CLIP)

GRACE: This little girl is just 9 years old. If I thought I had to go home tonight and my 8-year-old twins would not be there, I would just go lay

down on the railroad track and let it run over me. It`s just that simple.

Help us find this girl before it is too late. I believe the TBI. This girl is in danger of death. This uncle of hers, married to the father`s sister,

57 years old, has no criminal history. Nothing. Somehow he has snapped.

He sneaks the girl out of her elementary school after buying camping provisions and they have not been seen since. They`re getting in leads.

There have been false sightings. We thought as we were to air tonight maybe they had spotted the van. No.

Marc Klaas, I am so concerned about this girl. What can we do, Marc? For this guy to snap after 30 something years of what seemed to be a happy

marriage and suddenly you kidnap a little girl?

KLAAS: And he did and I don`t think that he is playing. This is a game to him. He is not going to snap into reality. I think he knows exactly what he

is doing. But it is a classic case of you-can-run-but-you-can`t-hide.

Everybody knows about this case. Everybody is looking for Carlie, looking for Uncle Gary and looking for that unique-looking van. They`ll find him

eventually. Let`s just hope it is while she is still alive.

GRACE: There is a $20,000 reward to help bring this girl home, 1-800-TBI find, 1-800-824-3463.
