[00:00:11] ZAIN ASHER, CNN ANCHOR: Another historic night at the Rio Olympics as Michael Phelps and his 23rd gold medal. And British runner, Mo Farah, stumbles but he still won gold. Plus, buried under water, residents of the U.S. state of Louisiana, struggle to cope with record flooding.

And there is, by the way, more rain expected to come. Also ahead, Donald Trump accuses the media of being crooked and unfair to his campaign.

Hello, everyone. I'm Zain Asher and this is CNN NEWSROOM. Michael Phelps has just finished his career -- the only way he knows how, winning gold. That's right. He earned his record 23rd gold medal as part of the American four-by-100 meter medley relay team.

Earlier, British runner, Mo Farah, who won the 10,000-meter despite falling during the race -- he actually still won, even though he fell. He is the first British track athlete to win three gold medals.

And for the latest on the games, I'm joined now by my friend Kate Riley from "World Sport."

So Kate, it is interesting. I mean, I feel so happy for Michael Phelps because he did get to bow out in style. He did what he came there to do. But the pressure must have been intense as he dived into that board.

RILEY: Yes, very much so, bearing in mind that the U.S. -- Team USA were in second place at that point.

ASHER: Right.

RILEY: Great Britain had an incredible run. And it was felt he was in that third of the four by 100 there. He really pushed on in the butterfly that we know him so well for. And yet...

ASHER: And he saved them.

RILEY: Yes, in a way. When it came to hearing the star spangled banner, we -- on the medal ceremony, we saw a very emotional Phelps. He bows out on this incredible career, like he said, 23rd gold medal received tonight. Now, if Phelps was a country, Zain, he would actually be ahead of

around 200 countries in terms of medals.
