CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: We're following a developing story out of Colorado tonight. Apparently, a tornado has struck just east of Colorado Springs. We have reports of several injuries. The twister apparently destroyed a number of mobile homes.

Let's go right to Karen Maginnis in the weather center to get the latest on this -- Karen.

KAREN MAGINNIS, CNN WEATHER CORRESPONDENT: It is becoming quite an animated situation, right just to the east of Colorado Springs. Take a look at this particular cell right here. We think that's the super cell that has produced the tornadic activity there. We had some information that a high school was affected by this tornado, no reports of any injuries there. And this has occurred during the evening hours. This is a holiday break as well, so remember that.

But also, our latest information indicates that 40 miles to the east of Colorado Springs -- now what you saw, was about 23, 24 miles to the east of Colorado Springs, this now 40 miles to the east of Colorado Springs. Probably the same super cell, and there are reports that a possible tornado has occurred there.

And we have a report of a possible tornado in the vicinity of the Trinidad Airport, that is in the southeastern quadrant of the state, and they are looking at funnel clouds there. There was a weather spotter, a trained weather spotter, which did report a funnel cloud and a tornado in that area, so Catherine, it is quite a volatile night there, but also in the deep South, we've had numerous reports of some hail and some pretty high and windy downpours.

CALLAWAY: All right, Karen, keep watching it for us. Thank you.
