Detainees, Guards in Standoff at Juvenile Detention Facility

JOIE CHEN, CNN ANCHOR: Happening in the news right now, this is taking place right outside Las Vegas, Nevada, at a juvenile detention facility. It's been going on, according to local press and The Associated Press reporting to us from the Las Vegas area that this has been going on for some time. A number of young people in the range of 12 to 20 at various points climbing up on the top of this juvenile detention facility, facing off with guards -- you see some of the armed guards there -- standing up on top of the roof of the juvenile detention facility and taking apart air conditioning units, throwing them down in something of a standoff -- a disturbance, as it has been described out there in this area right outside of Las Vegas.

This is still going on now. We understand the heat is very high -- 104 degrees. CNN is continuing to watch all of this.
