COLLEEN MCEDWARDS, CNN ANCHOR: We've been telling you here all morning that police in Washington do want to interview Congressman Gary Condit for a fourth time in the Chandra Levy investigation. We've got some news about that.
Right now we've got Bob Franken on the phone - Bob.
BOB FRANKEN, CNN NATIONAL CORRESPONDENT: Well, in fact the interview did take place last night. As usual, it was conducted in almost utmost secrecy. They always want to make sure that there's not a media problem when they do these interviews.
It occurred at a point where Congressman Condit was on the House floor - the House of Representatives floor. He left. He met with investigators for over two hours and then returned to congressional business. A key point was whether it would be just FBI agents or Metropolitan police, and sources tell me that, in fact, the Washington, D.C. police did participate in that interview. That's significant because they had some specific questions to ask him. A) about why it was that he disposed of a watch case that had held a watch that had been given to him, according to sources, by a former aide with whom he had a romantic relationship. And secondly, they wanted to fill in some gaps in the timeline that he had provided them for his activities on May 1, the day that Chandra Levy disappeared.
The FBI wanted to participate because Condit had agreed to help them with information to provide a psychological profile of Chandra Levy. Chandra Levy and the congressman -- of course he has acknowledged to investigators, according to sources, that he had a romantic relationship with her. They wanted the knowledge - the intimate knowledge that he might have of her thinking to help fill out the psychological profile in the hope they can come up with some sort of motivation why she might have disappeared.
In any case, in secrecy, there was a fourth police interview with Gary Condit and investigators last night. Not may more details are available right now - Colleen.
MCEDWARDS: OK. But, Bob, D.C. police and FBI participating in that, correct?
FRANKEN: Yes.
