DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: We want to start right off by showing you some live pictures that we're getting in from our affiliate station WFAA. This is just west of Fort Worth, Texas, an accident where a small plane was trying to land at a small rural airport, and it went off the runway and went right into truck, a big rig, as we understand it.
All right, we will listen in -- are we going to talk to the chief of police? We have with us on the phone the chief of police, Ray Riley.
Are you with us.
POLICE CHIEF RAY RILEY, HUDSON OAKS, TEXAS: Yes, ma'am, I am.
KAGAN: Which department are you with exactly?
RILEY: I'm with the Hudson Oaks Police Department.
KAGAN: And that's close to Fort Worth, as I understand it.
RILEY: Yes, ma'am, just west of Fort Worth on interstate 40.
KAGAN: OK, chief, we're looking at live pictures right now that are coming from WFAA. We can see the pictures of the wing of a small plane. Can you tell us what happened?
RILEY: According to witnesses at the airport, this is a student pilot out of Fort Worth. He had already made one landing where he bounced about three times to runway, and he was southbound at that time. He went back into the air, turned the plane around, and he came about northbound with the wind, and he went too far on the runway, wind pushed him off the runway, and he hit this flatbed 18-wheeler here.
KAGAN: Wow. We understand one person is dead in the accident. Is that the student pilot?
RILEY: Yes, ma'am, it is.
KAGAN: Was anyone else anybody on board with him at the time, since he was a student pilot?
RILEY: No, there wasn't; he was solo.
KAGAN: Do you have any indication on the man who lost his life?
RILEY: No, ma'am, not at this time. We're still waiting on the medical examiner, and the crime scene is being worked.
KAGAN: Very good. So that highway is at the very end of the runway of that airport.
RILEY: Yes, ma'am, it is.
KAGAN: And he just missed the runway.
All right, chief, thank you very much for details on that.
As the chief of police telling us, there is one person dead, the student my lot, who was flying that plane that you see in those live pictures coming to us from the WFAA, trying to make landing, missed the runway, came back again, the wind caught him, and he went off the runway, slammed his plane into a big rig truck. The student pilot is dead.
More on that story in just a bit.
