COLLEEN MCEDWARDS, CNN ANCHOR: Former attorney general Janet Reno has announced that she is going to run for Florida governorship, and CNN's Mark Potter sat down with her just a few moments ago.
We want to play you some tape of that now, because it is the first interview with Janet Reno that we've got. So let's listen.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
MARK POTTER, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Well, everybody's been waiting for word from you on whether you're going to run for governor. Do you have something you would like to tell us about that?
JANET RENO, FMR. U.S. ATTORNEY GENERAL: I am running for governor. Today we opened a campaign account, filed our papers with the secretary of state, and will now move forward to raise money and to build a campaign organization.
POTTER: Why did you decide to run?
RENO: I had talked with the people of Florida, to so many people from all across Florida, and I think they share my vision for the future.
I want to the build the best educational system in the country for Florida. I want to do everything I can to preserve the environment as I have known it in my growing up. I was born and raised here, and I love this state. I want to stand up for our elders. I have tried to call things as I see them, based on what's right. And I want to continue to try to do that.
And after listening to the people, I felt that the next step was to move forward and to start this run from the position of governor of Florida.
