LEON HARRIS, CNN ANCHOR: We do have some specific information to deliver to you.
Our Susan Candiotti has been working this story this morning on Richard Reid, so-called "shoe bomber". She has got some more late breaking information about the charges he's going to be facing -- Susan.
SUSAN CANDIOTTI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hello, Leon. Yes, a federal grand jury in Boston returned seven new charges in addition to the one we already knew about against alleged shoe bomber Richard Reid.
Let me run down the list for you. They include attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, attempted homicide, placing an explosive device on an aircraft, attempted murder, attempted destruction of an aircraft, using a destructive device during in (ph) relation to a crime of violence, and attempted wrecking of a mass transportation vehicle.
Those are the seven new charges in addition to the eighth one, which we already knew about, now in the form of an indictment which is interference with a flight crew.
Again, additional charges had been widely expected to be filed against Richard Reid, and we do expect a formal announcement about this at about 2:15 this afternoon, Eastern time, to be made by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft -- Leon.
HARRIS: Susan, one question I'd like to ask the attorney general, is what's the difference between attempted homicide and attempted murder? Do you know what that's all about? Those are two of the charges.
CANDIOTTI: I'd like to know that one too. That's -- those are two distinctions without a difference, perhaps, but I'm sure there is one, and of course, we will get down to the bottom of it.
HARRIS: There has got to be some sort of a legal differentiation there. All right, well, thank you very much. Susan Candiotti reporting with that breaking news. We appreciate that.
