KYRA PHILLIPS, CNN ANCHOR: Another breaking story that we have been following this morning, and that is four Israelis reported killed at Hebron when Palestinian gunmen opened fire on two cars driving along a settler road. We received this information from Israeli radio. We have now confirmed this information.

Our Chris Burns is live from the Middle East with more on this story as it has developed -- Chris, what can you tell us?

CHRIS BURNS, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Kyra, a few more details. It was -- these were Palestinian militants who were in a car that were -- that either stopped or shot at these two cars, the two cars were about two and a half miles apart from each other on that settler road, that special road for Jewish settlers. The car drove on, the Israeli Defense Forces are pursuing these attackers in the village of Yatta, the Palestinian village of Yatta on the West Bank.

This all having happened near the town of Hebron, near the Israeli -- the Jewish settlement of Karmel (ph) in the southern West Bank.

Now, as you say, four people are killed. These four were all Jewish settlers. One in one car -- three of them in one car, a father, son, and -- father and mother and a son, those are the three killed. And in the other car, one other person, the other car that was attacked.

Also, two people have been injured in that attack, one in serious condition, one lightly injured.

Now, this of course comes in the wake of retaliation threats by militant groups on the Palestinian side after Monday's Israeli attack in Gaza that killed Hamas militant leader Salah Shehada. Those militant groups have been promising attacks, there have been a number of scattered attacks in recent days, this is the bloodiest so far -- Kyra.

PHILLIPS: Chris Burns, we'll continue to follow the story, live from Jerusalem there. Thanks, Chris.
