Texas Police Stop Car Matching Description from Kidnapping

CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: I am hearing that we have Susan Candiotti with some breaking news out of Texas -- Susan.
SUSAN CANDIOTTI, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Hi, Kyra. This could be very hopeful news in the case of that baby that was kidnapped from the area of Abilene, Texas. Quoting law enforcement sources, I am told that authorities do have a car that they stopped that matches the description of the car, the getaway car, involved in that kidnapping, and that authorities are questioning a woman who is inside that car with a baby. I am told the baby is in good condition, and that currently, authorities are taking steps to try to identify that baby. The obvious steps they would be taking include making a footprint, taking a footprint of the baby, who is one month old, and checking the footprint against hospital records to see whether this is the baby. We have again stressed that there is no positive identification that has been made at this time. The car was stopped in North Texas. That is all we are being permitted to say at this time. And of course, the Abilene Police Department on the other end of the state is the lead investigative agency on this. They are being assisted by the FBI -- Kyra.

LIN: Actually, Susan, today it is Carol Lin here in Atlanta.

CANDIOTTI: Oh, sorry, Carol.

LIN: No problem. So did they tell you more about the circumstances of stopping this car, or did the woman say anything to police?

CANDIOTTI: Tried to find out but, no, they are not revealing the circumstances other than to say -- or what led them to stopping this car. Above and beyond the fact that the description apparently matched the description of the getaway car. They do say that there were -- was some other information that led them to this car. Exactly what that was, we don't know yet. They are not saying yet. So there was something beyond the vehicle description that led them to stop and locate this vehicle in the northern part of the state.

LIN: Did they at least say that the baby was in good condition?

CANDIOTTI: Yes, they did, and that is excellent news. Yes, the baby is said to be OK, but there was something about the story that the woman was telling them -- is telling them that they have serious questions about, and so that is why, right now, they are talking to this woman.

LIN: All right. Thank you very much, Susan Candiotti. Let's hope that this is good news, and this is, in fact, little Nancy Crystal Chavez, who has been missing since yesterday after being snatched out of her mother's van in a Wal-Mart parking lot. Susan Candiotti breaking that news for us, and still working the story, as it's pretty hot.
