PAULA ZAHN, CNN ANCHOR: Let's go to Bob Franken, who is standing by -- Bob, where are you this morning?
BOB FRANKEN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: I'm about a hundred yards from the scene of the shooting. Police are moving all media away, probably about a half mile down the road. But before we go, let me describe the scene.
It is on a side road off of a major street, a bus that's called a Ride-On bus is sitting by the side of the road.
According to police, a person was found on or near the bus, had been shot in the chest, was evacuated to a local hospital. They're, of course, treating this, as you know, as a possibility, although they don't know, that it is another sniper attack by the sniper.
The roads have been closed. The roads have been closed throughout the area. As we've been reporting, things are absolutely paralyzed and, as I said, the police are moving out so I'm going to have to make this as quick as I can.
Roads in the area are paralyzed. You have to use a lot of ingenuity to get up here to the scene.
Now, the bus is surrounded on the one side by wooded areas and on the other side by an apartment building. And, of course, investigators are giving a thorough search. We look up there and we see people from ATF, Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms. We see local Montgomery County police. We see FBI agents. We see a lot of policemen who are looking around and, of course, telling us to get out of the area. They're worried about compromising the scene.
This is not far from where one of the first victims of the shootings was killed back a couple of weeks ago. It's just a block or so from where a woman was sitting in front of a retirement home waiting for a bus when she was shot and killed.
Again, police say that there are some differences between this shooting and some of the others, but as I said, they're treating it as a sniper attack and the main manifestation of that is that the roads have just been shut down -- Paula.
ZAHN: Bob, before you get chased out of the area, I know you just reported investigators are telling you this victim was found on or near the bus. Can you get any confirmation of either one of those two possibilities? FRANKEN: At a moment, the people, the people who I'm talking to, the police are telling us one thing -- get out. So they're really not giving us any confirmation right now. Obviously that's something we'll get to work on in just a little bit.
But the scene the bus is on, if I may just give you a picture of the scene, it's on a quiet street. It's a quiet street off Connecticut Avenue. It's really, you look at all the police cars sitting out here, you look at all the roadblocks and then you look up at that street and all you see is a bus with its light flashing, a very quiet scene. Of course there are police swarming over that bus.
ZAHN: All right, Bob, we're going to let you get out of the area if that's what authorities need you to do. And let's check in with Bill Hemmer...
FRANKEN: They're telling us to get out, right?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Yes.
ZAHN: Well, when you're at a more secure location there.
