BILL HEMMER, CNN ANCHOR: Some breaking news right now in South Carolina. We touched on this a bit earlier. One of two fugitives wanted in connection with a multistate crime has been apparently captured.
Brandon Basham now in custody, according to our CNN sources there in South Carolina. He was caught at a highway rest stop in Ohio. Basham and Chadrick Fulks escaped from a Kentucky jail earlier this month, in November. Since then, they've been linked to several crimes, including an abduction in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

And Charles Molineaux has made his way there to Myrtle Beach for more on that.

Charles, what are you finding and hearing now?

CHARLES MOLINEAUX, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yes, the concern, Bill, is, of course, what about the victim of this abduction, 44-year-old Alice Donovan. She still has not turned up. Although of course we still do have the very good news about this overnight apprehension. It was at the Wal Hart here in Conway, South Carolina -- this is in the area of Myrtle Beach -- that she disappeared. She was actually Christmas shopping, and was carjacked and kidnapped, allegedly according to the FBI and the police by these two jail escapees.

Just to sort of bring you back up to speed, Chadrick Fulks and Brandon Basham were in the Hopkins County jail in Madison, Kentucky.

Basham, 21 years old. He was tied up for forgery-related convictions. He was actually about a year away from being released. Fulks was 25, he was ready to go to court on a whole series of charges, burglary, theft, credit card fraud, even impersonating an FBI agent. Now the FBI says that the two of them busted out about two weeks ago on November 4th. The next day, in Hanson, Kentucky, the cops say that the two of them talked a guy named James Hawkins into giving them a lift. According to the FBI, once they got into Indiana, they carjacked him at knife point and kidnapped him, and then left him in woods tied up to a tree with duct tape and electrical cord. He spent the night out there in nothing but his shorts and his T-shirt until he finally managed to get himself free. The cops say he was pretty lucky.

Now the FBI figures that was just the beginning of a tour that the two took from Kentucky to northern Indiana, then back south here into South Carolina, and then into North Carolina.

Hawkins' truck, for example showed up in Portage, Indiana. That's way up near Gary and Chicago. The police here in Conway say last Thursday, a man stumbled on the two of them burglarizing his son's house, and they shot at him. Now at this point, though, it appears they've actually gotten ahold of some handguns, a very scary and violent situation, and that it was the same day that Alice Donovan was carjacked here in the Wal-Mart parking lot. She and her BMW have not been seen since, although apparently there was traffic using her ATM card over the last couple of days. The apprehension of Brandon Basham obviously is a very good piece of news. But FBI officials are very concerned about the condition of her. This is a priority case. They have a kidnap victim who they are trying to save.

A big development, of course, with the arrest of Brandon Basham which apparently happened overnight -- Bill.

HEMMER: Thank you, Charles. Charles Molineaux, tracking that story again, from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
