WOLF BLITZER, CNN ANCHOR: We have a breaking news story that we're following, thanks to the Associated Press. The AP reporting that the eldest son of the newly-elected U.S. Senate majority leader, Bill Frist, is among three people who escaped a small plane crash in Nashville earlier today with minor -- repeat -- minor injuries.
A spokesman for Senator Frist's office confirmed that 18-year-old Harrison Frist was aboard the single engine Cessna, which ran off the runway during takeoff at John Tune Airport earlier this morning. The airport is in the area of the River Bend State Prison handles general aviation or private planes by and large. The field does not have a control tower.
Harrison Frist is a freshman at Princeton University. The senator, the incoming Senate majority leader, has two other sons -- 17-year-old Jonathan and 15-year-old Bryan. They're enrolled in private school here in Washington.
The Federal Aviation authority spokesman tells the Associated Press that the plane rolled down a 30-foot embankment. The spokesman said two people suffered minor injuries, the third was unhurt. And Allison McAfee of the Metropolitan National Airport Authority is quoted by the Associated Press as saying that dense fog could -- repeat -- could have played a part in the crash.
The good news, though, all three -- two of them suffered only minor injuries, one unhurt at all. So, at least that is good news. A plane crash on takeoff outside of Nashville, Tennessee.
We'll continue to monitor this story.
