CAROL COSTELLO, CNN ANCHOR: We want to go back to our breaking news story about that Mexican teenager, Jesica Santillan, the 17-year- old who had the organ transplant and it was of the wrong blood type and she was near death. Well now new organs are available and she's set to be operated on at 8:00 Eastern Time this morning.
We have Renee McCormick from Jesica's Hope Chest on the phone with us right now.
Good morning -- Renee.
RENEE MCCORMICK, JESICA'S HOPE CHEST: Good morning.
COSTELLO: This must be the best news for the family.
MCCORMICK: It is and we are elated and the family is overjoyed. And the Duke surgeons had them in at 1:00 a.m. and said that organs had been directly donated in Jessica's name and that they were an incredibly good match and that the transplant team was going to be dispatched to go procure those organs. They left about 1:30 a.m. Surgery is to begin at 8:00. And we just ask the country to continue to pray because she has a 50/50 chance of surviving this second operation.
COSTELLO: Yes, I was just going to ask you about the prognosis here because she must have been very sick after the first organ transplant.
MCCORMICK: She was, yes. Yesterday, the CAT scan results came back clinically insignificant, not showing any brain damage to speak of, so that was great news. She did respond to her mother's voice yesterday. She did squint her eyes when her mother asked her to if she could hear her and we did have those kind of responses. So yesterday, as we ended the day, turned out to be much better than it had started.
COSTELLO: How's mom doing?
MCCORMICK: Mom I'm sure right now is thanking the good Lord and is doing very well.
COSTELLO: All right, Renee McCormick, thanks for joining us this morning, and good luck to Jesica.
We'll have an update on her operation and the outcome after 8:00 Eastern Time.
