Two U.S. Soldiers Killed in Iraq in Separate Attacks

FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: More now on a breaking story of at least two U.S. soldiers being killed in Iraq.
Let's go straight to Jane Arraf, who is in Baghdad with more on that.

Jane -- what more do we know now?

JANE ARRAF, CNN BAGHDAD BUREAU CHIEF: Fredricka, one soldier was shot and killed in Mahmudiyah, which is just south of Baghdad. The other came under rocket-propelled grenade attack. He was with the 4th Infantry Division. He died. And another one was wounded in that same RPG attack in Tikrit, Saddam's hometown. All of these overnight.

In addition, the U.S. military says another unidentified soldier died from a non-combat inflicted gunshot wound, the second case of that in a week. Now, that has meant in the past a case of suicide, an indication perhaps of increasing stress as this weather gets hotter and the attacks continue.

There were other attacks as well in the town of Ramadi, which is west of here, and other places which have continued to be hot spots with attempted attacks and successful attacks on U.S. soldiers.

We don't want to give the impression that this whole country is a war zone. It is not.

U.S. officials also announcing that oil is flowing again from the southern oil fields to the main oil terminal in the Gulf. Now, that will be loaded on tankers, for the first time since before the war, on Friday. The hope is that with the economy improving, although slowly, it will help a little bit to help restore stability to this country as well -- Fredricka.
