HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: Now to that breaking news on the crash of the U.S. helicopter in Iraq, as well as an ambush there.
CNN's Matthew Chance is in Baghdad now live with the very latest -- good morning, Matthew.

MATTHEW CHANCE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Good morning to you, as well, Heidi.

It's the second helicopter that's come down in Iraq in less than a week. This time, a U.S. Black Hawk helicopter crashed near the north central town of Tikrit, which is, of course, the hometown of Saddam Hussein, as it was en route with another chopper towards Camp Iron Horse, which is the main U.S. military base inside Tikrit. That second chopper said that it didn't see -- or the pilot of the chopper said that it didn't see any indication of any hostile fire. It just saw the other Black Hawk go down with a heavy landing and apparently burst into flames when it hit the ground.

U.S. rescue teams have, of course, been moved to the area, extracting the casualties and gathering whatever forensic evidence they can. The latest information that we have regarding those casualties, four people confirmed dead as a result of the incident. Another two are said to be injured. But, of course, the real question is what was it that brought this latest chopper down.

COLLINS: Of course, we'll be waiting to hear about that.

Matthew, we also want to know a little bit more, if we could, about what has happened in Mosul, as well.

CHANCE: Yes, well, just as a further indication of the kind of daily attacks U.S. and coalition forces are coming under, in the northern town of Mosul, again, the 101st Airborne Division reporting to us that one of their convoys was ambushed by unknown assailants firing rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire. We understand that casualties from that incident, one U.S. soldier killed. Another six are said to be wounded, underscoring just how dangerous it is for U.S. forces on the ground in different areas of this country.

COLLINS: All right, Matthew Chance live this morning from Baghdad.

Matthew, we'll check in a little bit later on.
