THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
JUDY WOODRUFF, CNN ANCHOR: I want to bring in Miguel Marquez, our correspondent who is there also at the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department. Miguel, any indication of -- the assumption is that Michael Jackson is still in the building, right?
MIGUEL MARQUEZ, CNN CORRESPONDENT: That is the assumption. We're still operating on that assumption. There were several cars behind us.
Sure, one moment. Go ahead. Go ahead. Please, please.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: (OFF-MIKE) with some kind of update on the information, OK?
MARQUEZ: And this is -- I'm sorry. Your name is...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Sergeant Chris Pathos (ph), Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department.
MARQUEZ: I'm with CNN. If you could tell us again (UNINTELLIGIBLE).
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: About 45 minutes to an hour we'll have another briefing out in from where we had you do the past few releases out there.
MARQUEZ: And who will be updating us?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Probably myself or the sheriff.
MARQUEZ: The update will be regarding...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Regarding this issue right here.
MARQUEZ: Is Mr. Jackson still being held here?
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Like I said, that update will address those issues specifically. OK? All right.
MARQUEZ: Thank you very much.
The press person with the sheriff's office telling us that in the next half hour or so that there will be another press briefing by the sheriff's office here, presumably after Mr. Jackson has left. It appears that he is still in the building here. Mr. Geragos has not left. We did see some limos and or cars behind us that backed out and parked for a short time.
We're also seeing fans starting to gathering in this area. It's a very restless day in Santa Barbara -- Judy.
WOODRUFF: So, Miguel, once again, the belief is that Michael Jackson still is in the building, although we don't know for sure. We expect that a camera would have spotted him on the way out. But as far as you know, the -- Geragos -- his attorney's car, is still there?
MARQUEZ: It backed out shortly out my view, but it's parked down the road just a little ways. We also hear helicopters still overhead.
It was interesting this morning, we knew this was all coming because the helicopters, a la O.J. Simpson so many years ago, followed the car right up to the police station. Several helicopters still overhead. Reporters and photographers and print reporters almost at every single entrance or exit to this place. I cannot imagine that he would get out of here without somebody knowing about it. They are in a convoy of cars, so it would be difficult for them to get away that way as well.
And we should have more information presumably when Mr. Jackson has left this area and this facility probably within a half our, maybe 45 minutes according to the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office -- Judy.
WOODRUFF: Miguel, can I just ask you to do what I sometimes ask reporters to do to give our audience a sense of what is going on at these -- this type location? If you could turn the camera and show us what the media, the news media presence is like, because it is part of the story, just looking at how many reporters and camera crews are there.
MARQUEZ: As you swing around, here you can see these are not only media, but there is a group of fans here. There was a group of fans over here near these cars that had a large sign up just a short time ago.
The bulk of the media has since moved over to yet another location. It's a series of about three buildings here. So they've gone over to other locations to cover the next press conference which will held by the San Bernardino's (sic) Sheriff's Office.
And in this area, you have the media watching around the corner of the building here because they fear there may be somebody coming out of the corner of this area here. There's another driveway here. They're hoping to get any sort of cars or any sort activity that may be happening on that side of the building.
The best word to describe it is restless. There's sort of a rumor will go through the reporter ranks. And you will see everybody sort of run to one side of the building. And then you will see them run back. And the we set up here a few minutes ago in a completely impromptu fashion and Geragos came out and spoke.
It's a very interesting day in Santa Barbara -- Judy.
WOODRUFF: To put it mildly. Miguel Marquez, thanks very much.
