DONNA KELLEY, CNN ANCHOR: Dozens of middle school students who survived a deadly bus crash in Canada are back home in Massachusetts today. They're sharing memories of four classmates who were killed when their tour bus flipped over in New Brunswick yesterday.

JEFF DERDERIAN, WHDH CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): In the quiet of night, tears of pain and sorrow outside Oak Hill middle school, students remembering four friends.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Melissa was really energetic. She always made everyone smile and laugh, and I think everyone loved her.

DERDERIAN: Greg Chan always wanted to help.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: I don't remember him ever getting mad at anybody. He didn't talk a lot. He was just -- he was really quiet.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Kayla was -- she was really smart. She was nice. She was like a peacemaker. She like never started trouble.

DERDERIAN: Steve Glidden was just cool.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: He is funny, he is nice. He is hyper. But -- and I loved his hair.

DERDERIAN: At Hanscom Field last night, planes arrived from Canada carrying students and parents. Also, state police wait with our parents anxious to be reunited. Red Cross grief counselors know their work has only just begun.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We had a mixture of things go on. There were some families who lost their children today, and there were other families who did not. So it is joy and sorrow all at once.

DERDERIAN: At about 1:00 a.m., the last bus leaves Hanscom, headed back to Newton, to a town where there are so many heavy hearts.

(END VIDEOTAPE) KELLEY: That was reporter Jeff Derderian from affiliate WHDH in Boston. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident.
