CATHERINE CALLAWAY, CNN ANCHOR: Now to the Games today. Another medal winning day for the team U.S.A. And CNN Sports Illustrated Phil Jones has been trying to keep up with all the action, which has focused on speed.

PHIL JONES, SPORTS ILLUSTRATED: Eight days of competition so far at these 19th Winter Olympic Games. And at least one medal so far and every single one of them for the United States. In the men's speedskating event on Saturday, the 1,000 meters, Joey Cheek, a 22- year-old from North Carolina took a bronze medal behind two Dutchmen. Cheek was a sensation of the U.S. trials last December, but struggled to find his (INAUDIBLE) pre-Olympics, saying at the start of the Games, "the last three weeks have been the worst of my life."
He found his form on Saturday though and has a bronze medal to prove. Gold went to the Netherlands Charat Vonvelder (ph) in a world record time. There was a second gold in four days for Norway's Chettle Armat (ph) in the men's Alpine Super G, beating favorites Stephan Eberhart of Austria into second. Armat (ph) now has an Olympic Alpine record, seven medals. U.S.A.'s world champion Dan Rolves (ph) was eighth.
The U.S. men's hockey team are playing Russia tonight. That game already underway, reviving memories of that miracle on ice in 1980. The Americans got off to a winning start against Finland, an impressive performance, but not so the Canadians. They lost 5:2 to Sweden. But Mario Lemieux, one of their superstar players, says, as they prepared to face Germany on Sunday, it isn't time to press the panic button.
MARIO LEMIEUX, CAPTAIN, CANADIAN HOCKEY TEAM: I think the game was a little bit misleading last night during that 10 minute period, where they made some great plays. They had a couple breakaways and took advantage of it. So you know, for us, we just go back to work today and just practice today. And we have two games coming up against Germany tomorrow and of course, the Czechs on Monday. And then the tournament starts.
JONES: At the halfway point of the men's two-man bobsled competition, American Todd Hayes is lying fifth. There are two more runs on Sunday. He's hoping to get into at least third place and win the U.S.A.'s first medal in bob sledding for 46 years. The other American challenger, Brian Scheimer, is down in ninth and out of medal contention. That's the story here from Park City, Utah on day nine of the Olympic Games. Back to you in the studio.
