SEIBERG: Joan Collins recently did it. Now Liza Minnelli, it's her turn. The famed entertainer has taken the plunge into married life for the fourth time.
CNN's Deborah Feyerick takes a look at the New York ceremony and reception that had been the talk of the town.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
DEBORAH FEYERICK, CNN CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Judy Garland would've been proud. Daughter Liza Minnelli tying the knot to Hollywood producer/music promoter David Geft, saying I do in front of 1,000 close friends.
JOY BEHAR, TALK HOST: Liza looked stunning. Elizabeth Taylor, Michael Jackson, I mean, they were up on the altar. Michael Jackson claps like this. People were applauding after every number. Great!
FEYERICK: Natalie Cole singing "Unforgettable" as the wedding party walked down the aisle. Liza's fourth time, the groom's first.
RENEE TAYLOR, ACTRESS: They said that they would be each other's healers.
FEYERICK: There were ex sex sirens and tycoons, Hollywood royalty, and chart-toppers. Friends say Minnelli cried. The groom...
ROBERT GOULET, SINGER: I have no idea. I'm sure he's going to cry tonight. I don't know what that means.
FEYERICK: CNN getting a behind the scenes preview of the blowout, no holds barred extravaganza, starting with a cascade of flowers.
How many flowers are we talking about at this wedding?
PRESTON BAILEY, FLORIST: Thousands, thousands, absolutely thousands. We have like 15,000 peonies, 20,000 roses. The quantity and abundance is the key word throughout the entire event.
FEYERICK: White flowers for the church, red for the reception. And the food?
CHRISTOPHER KNABLE, MANAGER, REGENT: There's steak and then there's steak. For David and Liza, it's going to be very special.
FEYERICK: The reception at the five star Regent Hotel on Wall Street.
(on camera): This is one of the suites where some of the guests will likely stay. Up a few stairs, you've got your sitting room with the large television and of course, a DVD player. In here, the master bedroom, another television, another DVD player, king sized bed, your fax machine. Through here, some closets. You can hang your wedding dress if you want, and a bathroom. But best of all, so large, it's almost the size of a Manhattan studio apartment.
(voice-over): The wedding was its 60-piece band ending a week of parties.
STAR JONES, TALK HOST: We did a bridal shower. We put a lot of the big old flower hats, the whole nine yards.
FEYERICK: Everyone ecstatic for the happy couple.
MICKEY ROONEY, ACTOR: I think she's the happiest girl in the world.
DAVID HASSELHOFF, ACTOR: I think he's very good for her. I think they're going to do very well together.
JOAN COLLINS, ACTRESS: Looks like (UNINTELLIGIBLE).
FEYERICK: Mr. and Mrs. Gest sold the rights to cover the wedding, raking in a reported $2 million. If you're wondering whether Minnelli will stay at home now that she's married, not by a long shot. After a short honeymoon, she'll be back to work, a concert tour in Europe.
Deborah Feyerick, CNN, New York.
