CAROL LIN, CNN ANCHOR: Orelon Sidney is standing by in the weather center with news about a tornado heading toward Houston, Texas right now.
ORELON SIDNEY, CNN METEOROLOGIST: That's right. That's right, Carol. A tornado warning is in effect for Fort Bend County, which is here, and Wharton County, which is here, because of this storm that's headed in moving to the northeast about 55 miles an hour, very rapidly moving storm.
This area that my hand is over, that is the Houston metro area. Here's the 610 Loop and here's a strong thunderstorm with a tornado continuing to push its way on northeastward. So the outskirts of the city at (UNINTELLIGIBLE), the northern portion of the city, even up toward Conroe (ph), perhaps you should be on the lookout for some potentially severe weather.
A tornado warning is in effect now. That means a tornado has been indicated by radar and we have seen extensive tornadic activity throughout much of Texas as we've headed through the afternoon hours. We continue now with this area under severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00 p.m.
A new tornado watch has just been issued covering eastern Texas into Louisiana. That's going to be in effect until 11:00 central time. So a very busy evening. Those of you in Houston, do watch out, tornadoes and potentially severe weather heading your way. Carol?
LIN: Thanks for the warning, Orelon. We'll check back with you to see if and when that actually strikes in Houston, Texas.
SIDNEY: You're welcome.
