FREDRICKA WHITFIELD, CNN ANCHOR: More than 20 inches of snow have fallen in parts of New England and CNN's Jason Carroll is knee deep in the stuff in Stratton, Vermont. It looks to me like you need a little cup of hot cocoa.
JASON CARROLL, CNN CORRESPONDENT: A cup of Joe would serve me so well right now, Fredricka. I wish I had one.

WHITFIELD: Do you feel your toes?

CARROLL: But here's -- barely. I bought some new boots when I was out here today so actually my toes are feeling a little bit better.

WHITFIELD: OK, good.

CARROLL: But I have a little bit of good news for those of us who are cold sensitive. The storm has finally, it seems like, started to let up. The temperatures are definitely chilly but the main part of the storm actually hit last night. We had some heavy snow today but it has finally started to let up.

The roads out there are still treacherous but if you're out on the slopes, which is where we spent much of our day, the conditions could not have been better. So far, two feet of snow have fallen in this section of Vermont and you talk to the snowboarders and the skiers who were out on the slopes today. They say hey things could not be better.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You can always have more snow. You never want the snow to stop.

UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: It's powdery with some ice underneath so if you fall you just keep tumbling down (UNINTELLIGIBLE).

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CARROLL: Just to put this whole thing in perspective, Fredricka, last year in this section of Vermont they had 111 inches of snow that fell for the entire season. This year they've already had 111 inches of snow and it's only January 4 -- Fredricka.

WHITFIELD: All right, thanks a lot Jason. It looks to me like you need to strap on some skis maybe tomorrow if you're still there or at least learn how to snowboard. You got to have fun out there.

CARROLL: Yes, I'm going to give it a whirl.

WHITFIELD: All right.

CARROLL: We'll see. We'll see.
