ANDREA KOPPEL, CNN ANCHOR: Despite the fear of SARS in Asian countries, the sickness is not stopping Americans from adopting Chinese children by the thousands. Reporter, Keryn Shipman, with affiliate KPLR has the story of one determined couple just back from China.
(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)
KERYN SHIPMAN, KPLR CORRESPONDENT (voice over): Cindy Reinberg (ph) and her husband, Joel, are glad to be home. They left for China two weeks ago with very little fears about SARS. They just wanted to get 17-month-year-old Anna.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We felt we had to go and get her because, I mean, now with everything going on, it seems they are stepping up cancellations and canceling flights and things like that. So, I think we made the right choice to go now.
Cindy is a nurse, and she says they did take some extra precautions.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We just tried to stay out of crowds. I mean, there were a couple of tours that they took us on they we chose not to get off of the bus. That what just what we felt was prudent and safe.
SHIPMAN: These children go through no special screening. Aside from a physical, nothing else done unless symptom appear.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We're following the CDC guidelines. We're taking or temperature every day. You know, if we get any symptoms at all, we are going to contact our doctor.
SHIPMAN: The Reinbergs (ph) are one of several hundred who are adopting children from China through the efforts of Children's Hope International. The agency says they've had no one back out because of the virus scare.
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: Some families are coming back and taking some precautions. For ten days, they are staying away from family and staying away from their jobs. But, in general, people are coming back and just adjusting to their brand new family.
