HEIDI COLLINS, CNN ANCHOR: The first meeting in two and a half years is going on right now between Israelis and Palestinians. In fact, the prime minister to Palestine, that would be Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon are talking about the road map to peace. And Kelly Wallace is at Sharon's office now in Jerusalem with the very latest on this. Kelly, some protesting going on now?
KELLY WALLACE, CNN JERUSALEM CORRESPONDENT: You can hear that, Heidi, exactly. Dozens of demonstrators just across the street from where I am. These demonstrators with the group, Peace Now, a left- wing group calling for an end to the occupation and chanting "no" to a military solution.
Security all around here, Heidi. Very, very tight. Israeli police officers on the ground. Helicopters in the air. Lots of concern about this, the first Israeli-Palestinian summit in two and a half years.
So much concern that we are not going to get any pictures, in fact, of the two men meeting this evening. Sources say that meeting got under way just a short time ago. Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian prime minister, and Ariel Sharon of Israel, these two men have met before in the past, but this is the first meeting in their roles as prime minister.
The backdrop to this meeting, another attack, a suicide bombing in Hebron on the West Bank. Two Jewish settlers killed, a man and a wife. An Israeli military forces say the woman was pregnant. Both sides entering this meeting with very, very tough positions.
The Israelis will say, especially after this attack tonight, they believe the Palestinians have to do more, have to do something to crack down on radical Palestinian group before Israelis can take steps to pulling troops out of the Palestinians Towns. Mahmoud Abbas facing the challenge of dealing with radical Palestinian groups, coming to this meeting trying to get the Israelis to take some steps, he says that need to be taken before the Palestinians can crack down on these groups. So a tough meeting. No work on exactly how long this will be. Heidi, back to you.
COLLINS: All right, Kelly Wallace, live in Jerusalem. I'm sure we will keep in close communications with you as the meeting goes on today. Thanks so much.
